  1. As long as it’s not Already Halo: The Kris Allen Remix then I’m good.

Now the question of the day is, for us good fans who pre-preordered (i.e. got the iTunes Pass), do we get From The Ashes too? :D

  2. yeah Michelle, will our Itunes pass include “From the ashes”?…. that’s the question. I had a bad feeling when I saw beside the song the mention “pre-order only”

  3. Hasn’t Kris’ pass been up there the entire time, isn’t that the same as a pre-order. Wouldn’t some folks be sort of annoyed now?

  4. @MTlfan, lol, u guys might be getting ripped off by iTunes. It seems like it anyways seeing as you paid for the pass but then all had to download LLWD separately and now you’ll have pre-order the album separately if you want the bonus track? That’s awful.

I’m up waiting for FYE, and I’m pretty livid at iTunes right now myself. Adam’s video for TfM is impossible to find and when I followed the instructions off of this blog, the version on my iPod ended up having really crappy resolution IMO. And don’t even get me started on how long iTunes made us wait for Allison’s single.

  5. I’m annoyed because the itunes pass is currently showing 10 slots (14 tracks on the pre-order album) for tracks from the album!!! It doesn’t list any songs as of yet. SO, not only do I want to know if we get the bonus track, BUT, will this even count as an album sale if we only get 10 tracks? I plan to buy a CD as well so my biggest issue is whether or not the bonus track will be one of the 10 tracks.

Any suggestions on how we find out?

  6. Let’s all twitter Kris.

cookcricket, I checked the tracks on the pass also. I don’t even care about all the little videos they gave us…I’m sure I could have found those on youtube. I want the songs!!!

  7. I’m hoping “From the Ashes” is the Mat Kearney collab as well, but it doesn’t sound like it from the description given by Kearney during his interview with Jim Cantiello of MTV. If it doesn’t end up being the Kearney track, I would be OK with it being either the Dan Wilson (of Semisonic) track or the other song Kris worked on with Eg White.

Just please don’t let it be the Ryan Tedder collab song.

    Let’s all twitter Kris.

Haha I doubt if he knows the answer to our questions

  8. I’m pretty sure it’s the Mat Kearney song…from Jim Cantiello’s more recent tweets.

  9. @dmr: I thought Jim said that his favorite song was going to be on the album, but that’s all he said? For all we know it could be the Chris Daughtry song that is the bonus track on the Wal-Mart version, or it could be this iTunes one, but I haven’t seen any signs pointing to “From the Ashes” being the Kearney song. It seems to be what everyone is rooting for, though.

  10. Starr, this is what I’m referring to…I hope the tease is about a Kearney song:

@KrisAllen4Real: U can preorder the album in a couplea days on NOV 3. << U should do that. U might be getting an AMAZING bonus track.

The Daughtry song is something about Angels.

  11. IA on the vids dmr. They’re nice, but I want all of the songs. I wish itunes would explain this pass better. I hope it’s the Mat Kearney collab too.

I’m pretty sure it’s the Mat Kearney song’ ¦from Jim Cantiello’s more recent tweets.

Yes, and Mat Kearney responded to one of them.

  12. I’m pretty sure it’s the Mat Kearney song’ ¦from Jim Cantiello’s more recent tweets.

    dmr, which ones?

smartalek, ugh ..seems there will be some rip-off. I can understand some bonus track differences from one country to another but within the same country? This thing has started i guess with the decrease in album sales; they want us to buy multiple copies now to boost them.
Is it sure that FYE was going to be on Itunes on the 3rd — i read a post mentioning an Adam’s twit that the single COULD be available on the 3rd..

  13. mtlfan, this is the one I was actually referring to:

@KrisAllen4Real: U can preorder the album in a couplea days on NOV 3. << U should do that. U might be getting an AMAZING bonus track.

  14. cookcricket, is this the reply you’re referring to?

@jambajim yes I dig it a lot. Watching curb these days.

  15. Yes dmr, but someone only posted the first part of the tweet. Not sure what the second part means…

  16. Oh, okay…I got the quote directly from Mat’s twitter page. I have no clue about the second part either!

  17. thanks dmr. I would think too it’s the Mat Kearny song especially in the context where Jim C. had been this multiple parts interview with Mat several weeks ago

  18. Mtlfan, exactly!! Starr, I hope they don’t get dashed! I bought the pass, and I don’t plan to buy the pre-order (although technically I already have…dang it), so if the pass doesn’t have the Kearney song, I’ll find it somewhere!!

  19. Okay so on the iTunes pass page it says the following:

“Pass contents are subject to change without notice. Grayed-out items will be added over the next few months and will be delivered to you the moment they’re available. If this Pass isn’t yet complete, additional items may be added that don’t yet appear.”

However it also mentions that “purchase of the pass does not guarantee delivery of any specific content.”

Not quite sure what to make of it.

  20. Jim @matkearney Did you get through Dexter Season 1 yet??
Mat @jambajim yes I dig it a lot. Watching curb these days

I think that’s their conversation and unfortunately it has nothing to do with the song. Could the fact that Jim tweeted Kearny the day Kris announced the pre-order on itunes mean sth? Maybe yes maybe no. Maybe they just became buddies just like Kris did with both of them.

Actually Jim have sent a DM to some people saying that he has heard the song and likes it a lot (we already know that from his tweets) but he doesn’t know the writers. I don’t know if he doesn’t know or if he can’t say. However at this point that the song is revealed if he knew sth he would have said it to the fans that have bombarded him with tweets asking him about “From the Ashes”.

I really want it to be the M. Kearny collaboration but at this point I really don’t care anymore. I just hope the song is a really good one!!

  21. @dmr: Yeah, it’s kind of weird because the iTunes Pass is technically a pre-order. It would just be irritating to those of us who were big fans of Kris and purchased the pass thinking we’d get the best deal and then get shafted by this album pre-order thing.

  22. Thanks Starr for the info. You up my hopes that this song will be included in the Itunes pass album. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise, isn’t it?

  23. @Mtlfan: I am sure we will get more info as the date nears. I will tweet Jive, Kris, Jim Cantiello and Michael Slezak for information. Hopefully they see enough tweets about it that they respond!

  24. Mtlfan,
I totally agree with you that this album is going to be siiick! Kris sounds very organic on the songs, no autotune at all. I could hear his raw voice on the songs which is very good. Thanks to Jive for keeping his real voice on the songs. Can’t wait.

  25. I also purchased the Itunes pass. Did we ever figure out if those sales will be included in his album sales numbers when the album becomes available? I know I am dreaming, but wouldn’t it be cool if we got all of the bonus tracks if we purchased the Itunes pass… I doubt that will happen, but a girl can dream. LOL. I am pretty sure that I will never purchase an Itunes Pass again. It is way to confusing.

  26. Ok, LLWD album is 92 on iTunes albums. The single is still not in the top 100. On the pop iTunes chart album is 21 and single is 40. Now, I’ve started this and I expect all you chart watchers and obsessors to continue on and provide constant updates so I can flail or wring my hands, whichever the case may be.

  27. Okay, this just in from Jim Cantiello via Twitter:

    @jambajim

FROM THE ASHES!!!!!! 19/Jive won’t confirm whether it’s the Mat Kearney co-write but regardless, it’s an awesome song. “Edgy” and “driving.”

  28. As of 6:00am Central, Kris’s album pre-order has broken into the top 100 overall albums at iTunes, and sits at #94. Be aware that pre-orders do not appear on the dynamic feeds, but they will be displayed on the Top Albums page in the iTunes music store once they break the top 200. Other pre-orders from Rihanna and Them Crooked Vultures are also appearing on the list now.

I don’t know whether the pre-order album listing at iTunes includes sales of the iTunes pass – I tend to doubt it as they are treated as separate SKU’s in the iTunes store (just like a standard and “deluxe” version of the album would be). But suffice it to say all those iTunes pass sales will be counted amongst the debut-week sales by Soundscan, so ultimately it doesn’t really matter how iTunes is displaying it now. For tracking purposes I would just keep an eye on the pre-order, and think of the iTunes pass as gravy.

ETA: LLWD the single is currently at #106 overall – showing some serious resiliency in the face of all the Tuesday new releases! The fact that it didn’t get pushed down the chart by all the new singles flooding the store is a really good sign for sales this week.

  29. If the bonus track is not included on the pass, I’m going to be livid! The desperation of the record companies these days had driven them to be anything but ethical. I have the pass and was also planning to buy the Walmart copy for that bonus track and just to have a physical copy in my hands. But I’ll be damned if I have to also do this pre-order thing on I-Tunes in order to get From The Ashes too. I love Kris, but I’m not going buy 3 copies just for me…that’s insane! Plus it makes gift buying hell…deciding which version to give as a gift.

  30. This should have occurred to me earlier, I guess, but now I see what the labels’ new business plan is. Since they can’t get very many people to buy stuff any more, they’re trying every way they can to get hardcore fans to buy their favorite’s album several times. So … is the deal here that if you bought the Itunes pass, you *don’t* have access to the Itunes bonus single? Or what? I’m getting more confused by the minute. (Although I suppose at some point down the road all the bonus stuff will be made available to everybody … still awfully confusing though.)

Anyway, good for Kris for LLWD climbing up quite a few spots. Glad to see that.

  31. I don’t know whether the pre-order album listing at iTunes includes sales of the iTunes pass ‘“ I tend to doubt it as they are treated as separate SKU’s in the iTunes store (just like a standard and ‘deluxe’ version of the album would be).

I agree. They’ll be treated by iTunes as separate entities (you get extra things with the pass), but will be reported by SS as the same (you see the same thing with explicit/non-explicit versions and all the various bonus tracks versions).

ETA: LLWD the single is currently at #106 overall ‘“ showing some serious resiliency in the face of all the Tuesday new releases!

That’s great. I wonder why it suddenly started gaining last night. Oh well, it’s gaining. Over the next few days, it will be tough to hold that spot, but if it keeps up whatever momentum it had, it should return to about this spot on Saturday.

  32. I have to imagine the itunes pass will include the bonus track. I think they would hear outrage from the purchasers of the pass if they didn’t include it. It’s still an itunes purchase. (I say this with the full confidence of someone who already purchased the pass!)

ETA: maybe the slight surge in single sales is due to those who pre-ordered the album but didn’t realize the single was already available. When they went to pre-order the album, they noticed the single and ordered it, knowing they can “complete the album” when it’s released.

  33. This should have occurred to me earlier, I guess, but now I see what the labels’ new business plan is. Since they can’t get very many people to buy stuff any more, they’re trying every way they can to get hardcore fans to buy their favorite’s album several times.

They’ve been doing that for years. I think the primary reason for the bonus tracks though are to get deals from the vendors. Give them a special bonus track and they will offer better slots in the store or something.

So ‘ ¦ is the deal here that if you bought the Itunes pass, you *don’t* have access to the Itunes bonus single? Or what? I’m getting more confused by the minute

That would be “Season Pass” suicide. If they try that stunt, they won’t get many people buying their “Season Passes” next year and that’s one of the revenue streams they are pushing. I wouldn’t panic yet. Hopefully, the track listing for the “Season Pass” is up soon. I just can’t see them only delivering 10 tracks when there are 13 on the main album and I just don’t see them punishing the avid fans by not giving them the bonus. But, it wouldn’t be the first time the record companies decided on short term gain even when it meant longterm loss.

ETA: This is said with full confidence of somebody who didn’t buy the pass. So, we have people both sides agreeing. Yay!

  34. The whole issue with pre-orders – both the iTunes Pass and now this pre order with bonus track is quite annoying.

I would suggest that others who are in my situation go to their e-mailed receipt from what they ordered and ‘Report a Problem’

This is what I sent. They say they will respond within 24 hours. (86 400 seconds in a day)

I purchased this song as well as the Kris Allen iTunes Pass on the same day. In essence, I was billed twice for the same song and only have one copy of it.

I see now that there is a pre-order for Kris Allen’s debut album which will include an exclusive bonus track ‘From The Ashes‘. When I purchased the pass, my understanding was that this was the iTunes pre-order of his debut album.

I need to know if I will be receiving the bonus track that is currently advertised with pre-orders. I would be happy to overlook the double billing of ‘Live Like We’re Dying’ if I will receive this track as well.

Thank you for your time and speedy resolution of this issue.

  35. It’s 5:50 AM PT and Kris’ album is at 81 in the iTunes chart. So in 2 hours it’s jumped from 94 to 81. The single dropped 2 positions from 106 to 108. Not surprising since people are switching to buying the album instead. That’s a good thing in my opinion.

I’m sincerely hoping the Mat Kearny co-write is the bonus … and that all of us Pass purchasers get it too.

  36. I would suggest that others who are in my situation go to their e-mailed receipt from what they ordered and ‘Report a Problem’

Good idea. I’m doing this, too. … I can’t imagine that they *wouldn’t* put the bonus track in the pass package. … But who the heck knows?

  37. The banner for the pre-order that’s on itunes, also lists the words itunes pass, so I think that means that this is in reference to both the pass and the pre-order. None of the other pre-order banners say anything about an itunes pass.

  38. And in other Kris Allen news that seems to be ignored:

Kris is running a contest inspired by his single ‘Live Like We’re Dying’. The prize is a trip for 4 to NYC with all accommodations (flight, ground transportation, hotel) paid, a guitar signed by Kris Allen, and an exclusive recording session with AOL Sessions.

The very concept of this contest is exciting. You nominate someone you know who lives life to the fullest via youtube video or written story.

  39. Pre-ordered!!! :-) BTW, what’s a “digital booklet’? (listed as the 15th track)

Woke up this morning with alternating songs BIB and LIR in my head. Yesterday it was WAOMF (again). I can’t wait for the full album! Woot!

I saw when you posted this last night in another thread, and I’m already working on my submission. A friend who is a young mother who just got thru with breast cancer treatment and is making the most of her new lease on life. I think I’m going to do a video submission. Thanks for the info on the contest!

  41. I just noticed that the bonus track actual says, in parenthesis, pre-order only. So it appears as though you only get the bonus track if you pre-order the album from itunes. If you wait to order after the album drops, you wouldn’t get the track. At least that is how it reads now.

  42. The very concept of this contest is exciting. You nominate someone you know who lives life to the fullest via youtube video or written story.

yeah! this is a bright idea!

i’m squeeeeeing over the numbers…. keep climbing :)

Kirsten, what you said about the pass does make a lot of sense. It definitly should = anything the pre-order offers

  43. i’m squeeeeeing over the numbers’ ¦. keep climbing!

It’s climbing. The pre-order is up to #54 on iTunes overall now. LLWD down but only slightly, to #111.

  44. Yup, the album is at #54 on the iTunes chart — #15 on the pop albums chart!

  45. Take this with a grain of salt, but …

    From someone at IDF…

“I just got a reply from Apple, and according to them, the iTunes Pass will only contain 13 songs. That means the bonus track will not be included. How reliable is this information, I’m not sure, ‘cuz the last time I asked if LLWD was gonna be included in the Pass, they said no.

    Look what happened.”

  46. Yay for 54! I’m surprised anyone can even SEE the album as dark as it is! Don’t know why they didn’t use the bathroom shot…and boy does that sound weird. LOL!

I kinda think the Pass peeps are not gonna get the Kearney track (yeah, I just know Ashes is Mat Kearney’s song…from Cantiello’s latest tweet and the fact that Kearney had said it would “dirty up” Kris’s clean image (not in a bad way I don’t think!):

@jambajim: FROM THE ASHES!!!!!! 19/Jive won’t confirm whether it’s the Mat Kearney co-write but regardless, it’s an awesome song. “Edgy” and “driving.”

  47. @gulfluv – good for you on the contest submission…I hope your friend wins!

  48. A friend who is a young mother who just got thru with breast cancer treatment and is making the most of her new lease on life. I think I’m going to do a video submission. Thanks for the info on the contest!

gulfluv, I wish your friend wins!!! Great of you to do this :)

  49. gulfluv, you are awesome! I hope your friend wins!

I’m soooo excited about the climbing numbers on the pre-sale!! Yay!! :D

I need to send a report problem thingy to itunes. I hope something is done about the bonus track.

  50. So yep. My fave track is FROM THE ASHES. Brb. Going to pre-order Kris Allen’s album on iTunes. Why don’t you? http://tinyurl.com/ydshbth

about 5 hours ago from web FROM THE ASHES!!!!!! 19/Jive won’t confirm whether it’s the Mat Kearney co-write but regardless, it’s an awesome song. “Edgy” and “driving.”
about 5 hours ago from web

OMG! “From the ashes” is Jim’s favorite!! If it really tops what I heard so far, it got to be killing. But i’m a doubtful that a potential hit could go as a bonus track! what do you think?

  51. Woke up this morning with alternating songs BIB and LIR in my head. Yesterday it was WAOMF (again). I can’t wait for the full album! Woot!

BIB got stuck in my head this weekend when I was away from my computer. And when that wasn’t there It’s Alright With Me was.

But i’m a doubtful that a potential hit could go as a bonus track! what do you think?

Have to agree with you here – and I guess we could say the same about the Daughtry cowrite that’s the Walmart bonus which I also had high hopes for since CD knows how to write a hook.

  52. But i’m a doubtful that a potential hit could go as a bonus track! what do you think?

Mtlfan, IDK one of David Cooks edgiest songs that I really really love is Kiss On the Neck and it was a hidden track. I also really loved his bonus tracks. Archie also had some great (imo better than what was on the album) bonus tracks as well. I would have downloaded 1 or 2 as singles, but alas(!) they were bonus tracks only, so I passed.

  53. yeah cookcricket, could be. Those bonus tracks, after all, got to have some potential to attract buyers in specific sale spots

  54. Don’t know if this is good news or bad news, but I had two errors before I got my pre-order to go through. Hopefully, it’s because lots of people are ordering.

  55. I just saw the pre-order is up to #45 on the overall iTunes chart. For the newbies, that doesn’t appear on the RSS feed, only on the (not always as current) iTunes page. So, still rising.

  56. I just saw the pre-order is up to #45 on the overall iTunes chart. For the newbies, that doesn’t appear on the RSS feed, only on the (not always as current) iTunes page. So, still rising.

  57. Woot!!! Kris’s pre-order is now at #10 on the POP albums!!! Now I flail a little!!!

  58. Thanks Starr…well, maybe the Kearney track will surface some other way. In any case Robbins and Gad cowrote “I Need To Know” w/Kris so I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised by From the Ashes.

  59. Kris’ pre-order is now #38 on Top Albums chart.

Jim described the bonus track as edgy and driving, so we might be suprised. Lindy has suprised us with BEFORE WE COME UNDONE and I NEED TO KNOW so I won’t doubt that Jim is right. It could be because Kris co-wrote them too. So I’m fine with it since Kris co-wrote the bonus track too.

  60. ^Exactly, Michelle. Kris wrote a lot of good songs with Lindy and Toby. Lindy co-wrote “Before We Come Undone”, and Toby produced “The Truth”, both really good songs. I’m not worried. If it’s Jim Cantiello’s favorite track, it’s gonna be good. Cantiello calls it “edgy” and “driving”. All good words, IMO.

  61. Okay, so apparently 19/Jive have confirmed that ‘From the Ashes’ is NOT the Mat Kearney song.

    BUMMER! Grrrr…

Okay, here’s what I found out from a Live Chat with a CS Rep at iTunes. If I go ahead and pre-order the album, even though I have already purchased the pass, they will reimburse me for any duplicate songs I have. I was even able to save the transcript to my email for reference if need be.

Jim Cantiello, I’m doing this on your recommendation-it better be a good song!! :) At least Kris has a co-write on it.

They did reimburse me last year w/ song credits (which was fine with me) for duplicate copies of DC’s LO last year now that I think about it.

  62. Wow! can’t we just bully them into including FTA on the Pass? I think the fans were able to do that w/LLWD (even if I never got my copy via the pass :P)

  63. Question–I preordered Kris’ cd through here this morning, but I just looked at my library/playlist at itunes and it doesn’t show anything new. Even when I click on “recently added” I have nothing to indicate that my preorder went through. I admit to being technically challenged, so am asking y’all what I should be seeing in my account at itunes, if anything? I wish there was a print out/ receipt or something because now I wonder if I actually did preorder Kris’ cd!! Trying not to panic…

Didn’t Lindy and Toby write BWCU also? Maybe the Kearney track will show up thru Target to make us all choose between Walmart’s Daughtry or Target’s bonus track. That would be aggravating, to say the least!

  64. The Matt Kearney track will probably show up on a deluxe edition right before Christmas.

I pre-ordered Kris’ cd through here this morning and I have the pass. I did not see the pre-order in my library listing but when I went to my account info, it was listed under pre-order. It probably will not show up under recently added until it officially becomes available and billed. I could also see my pass listed there also. I think there are bugs in the system.

  65. hoosiermama — Go into the Store menu in iTunes, then View My Account. Somewhere in there you should be able to view your purchases and preorders.

  66. hoosiermama, check your account. There should be a manage your pre-orders button if the pre-order went through.

For some reason mine didn’t. I will try later.

Michelle, LOL I did let them know that the solution seemed complicated. :)

Also, I’m beginning to wonder if the iTunes pass will have some extra tracks as well…nothing to base this on at all.

  67. Phew! Thank you tripp_ncwy! I did not see that line of “pre-order” on my account info page, but it does indeed indicate “1”. When I click on “manage pre-orders” …there it is! Yeah! Feel so much better now.

eta Thanks to the rest of you for coming to my aid so quickly, too! I love how everyone is SO helpful here!!

  68. You know, I was just thinking, that since Kris wrote, what 3 or 4 songs with Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad, that is would be really nice if these two would come out with some positive feedback about working with Kris. Most of his co-writers have been way too quiet. It would be great promo for him. Just sayin’…

  69. Well even thou I have the I-Tune pass I went and perordered the Album. I hope The song is worth it. Even thou I know it should be,after all I love all the snippets I heard so far. So Am sure I’ll love the bonus song also.

  70. At least out of all this bonus track drama, Kris will have two additional co-writes to his credit with Send Me All Your Angels and From The Ashes. Jive must have liked something about the Matt Kearney colab with Kris since David A. has recently worked with him. Maybe the song didn’t fit with the the rest of the album. Kearney can be a little more Soul/R&B’ish than pop/rock.

  71. @cookcricket:

Okay, here’s what I found out from a Live Chat with a CS Rep at iTunes. If I go ahead and pre-order the album, even though I have already purchased the pass, they will reimburse me for any duplicate songs I have. I was even able to save the transcript to my email for reference if need be.

I’m assuming that the CS Rep you spoke to did not know for sure if the track would be included in the iTunes pass? I got an e-mail response from a CS Rep at Apple stating that the track WOULD be included. Several people from ONTD_AI received similar responses. But the weird thing is, all the responses contained somewhat murky information and bad grammar. But the gist of responses was that the track would be included in the iTunes pass.

  72. Hmmm, no she didn’t seem to think it would be included. Ugh! Now back to confusion. lol. She said that I couldn’t buy something that was exclusive to another item.

ETA: I guess the bottom line is that I can get reimbursed for any duplicates so it all works out in the end…

  73. A few twitters…I’m sure this is not hurting album sales! =) The album is now at #34 overall on Itunes! And it’s #8 on Pop!

thedavidcook @KrisAllen4Real iTunes preorder today! And Ms. Underwood’s new record out today!!! Go get ’em!

@AnoopDoggDesai RT @KrisAllen4Real Ok everbody. Album preorder on iTunes today!

@KrisAllen4Real Proud of you man. I Really am. I’m excited for the album baby!

  74. The third twitter post was from Matt Giraud…this thing would not let me edit it.

  75. Okay, so I think I’m just going to pre-order the album, to be safe. If I get duplicates, I will email iTunes and get a reimbursement. That only seems fair.

  76. Starr, it could only help Kris, so that’s cool. I think I bought 7 copies of Light On last year!! haha

  77. @dmr: WHAT. 7 copies?! That’s crazy! Okay, so this is how I’ve been doing obsessing over Kris so far:

I purchased the iTunes pass when he won. Since I’m a CD collector and always have hard copies of my music, I wanted a hard copy of his album as well, so as soon as it became available on Amazon.com, I pre-ordered it there. And then now I discover that Wal-Mart comes out with a version with a bonus track, and then iTunes has a bonus track, and now I hear even Target will come out with something special?

    This is INSANE! o_O

  78. thedavidcook @KrisAllen4Real iTunes preorder today! And Ms. Underwood’s new record out today!!! Go get ’em!

@AnoopDoggDesai RT @KrisAllen4Real Ok everbody. Album preorder on iTunes today!

@KrisAllen4Real Proud of you man. I Really am. I’m excited for the album baby!

The third twitter post was from Matt Giraud’ ¦this thing would not let me edit it.

    Here’s another one:

ScottDMacIntyre @KrisAllen4Real So excited for you man! Say hi to the fam…

  79. You know, I was just thinking, that since Kris wrote, what 3 or 4 songs with Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad, that is would be really nice if these two would come out with some positive feedback about working with Kris. Most of his co-writers have been way too quiet. It would be great promo for him. Just sayin” ¦

Joe King had a lot of nice things to say about Kris, he gave at least three interviews were he talked about his passion, work, ethic, being organic, and his ability to come up with great melodies. Claude Kelly made a tweet complimenting Kris on his talent. I think his name is Dave Hodges did the same. Mat Kearney said some great things about Kris to MTV.

But, I think the biggest compliment that these people have given to Kris, especially people like King, is that they worked with him on more than one song, and they introduced him to other people in the industry. I doubt that Mike Elizondo would have spent as much time on this album as they did, if they didn’t think that Kris was the “real dea” as Mat Kearney said. A lot of these people, like Hodges and Daughtry, also seemed to develope a close relationship with Kris, that has gone beyond just a business relationship.

Yeah, I think that Joe King also put a good word in for Kris with The Fray’s producer, Mike Flynn, and Mike Flynn was the one who told Kris he loved “Red Guitar”! Thanks to those connections, Kris was able to get a very personal song he penned himself on the album! Kris has pretty much said he loved working with everybody. I think the only person who I haven’t heard Kris glow about was Ryan Tedder – although that wouldn’t be surprising, considering Tedder’s incredible douchebaggery. Have I mentioned that I am very happy none of Tedder’s songs made it on this album? Also I am absolutely thrilled that the horrible JC Chasez song “Build Some Love” didn’t make it. Thank goodness Kris has amazing taste!

Kris has said he would love to work with Eg White again, too, and since “Bring It Back” is growing on me, I am not opposed to that idea at all. Someone I really want Kris to work with is Pharrell from the Neptunes. A duet with someone like Alicia Keys would be excellent. Wouldn’t it be great if we had an AI-on-AI duet? Kris would sound aweesome alongside Kelly Clarkson or David Cook! He was also great in the duet he did with Keith Urban; maybe he could duet with Carrie Underwood too! He could pull country off as well.

Can I just say I am so proud of what he’s accomplished? :D

  81. I’d be surprised if Target comes out with something special. But then you never know. I don’t think they’ve done this w/ the idols in the past like Wal-Mart and iTunes have.

  82. Obviously I missed the Joe King interviews! I’ve really only read comments back from Mat K (thank you jambajim!!), so was feeling like Kris was gushing about his co-writers but wasn’t getting the love back. Glad to know I was wrong. And you’re absolutely right, that writing more than one song with them and introducing Kris to others are all great compliments to his talent. Thanks!

  83. Alex Band tweeted this back in September:

working in the studio putting together @KrisAllen4Real vocal takes, his voice sounds awesome on this track.

Doesn’t look like any of his collabs w/ Kris made it on the album.

  84. I’m glad at the final products that made it on Kris’s album. Sure, the Mat Kearney track would have been awesome, but when you think about it, we haven’t even heard the track and yet we’re only going off of Mat Kearney’s name and his description of the track. Maybe it just didn’t work well with the rest of the album, and I respect that.

@ross: I look at the ones that didn’t make it, and I think it is a testament to Kris and Mike Elizondo for wanting to put out a cohesive album. Alex Band is not my favorite songwriter. The Calling has some cheesy ass songs, and I’m relieved none of the songs he wrote made it on Kris’s record. And that JC Chasez song was just downright ridiculous.

So kudos to Kris – it seems he really chose the songs that he felt were substantial musically and lyrically. “Written All Over My Face” for instance; even though it was not penned by Kris, it totally fits in with his other songs on the album, and listening to the song, you can forget that it wasn’t something written by Kris, because he sings it so well that you believe the words were conceptualized by him.

  85. I think it is a testament to Kris and Mike Elizondo for wanting to put out a cohesive album.

OK, now I’m really missing something here…is Mike the overall (head?) producer of Kris’ album?

I just posted that tweet as an example of a collaborator who complimented Kris, since the talk was about compliments Kris got from people he has worked with. I wasn’t regretting that nothing by Alex was included on the CD.

But obviously Kris liked his music originally, or he wouldn’t have sought him out as a collaborator. I agree the music on the CD represents good choices — I love it, myself.

  87. Kris is currently at #34 on iTunes and John Mayer is at #28. I so wish Kris could overtake John Mayer! That would be so awesome though I’m happy with #34 no doubt! Also, Kris is at #7 on Pop!

  88. Starr, you may end up with 7 copies of the ALBUM before it’s over. =)

All of David’s fans were buying multiple copies, trying to chart him last year about this time. I wonder if Kris’s fans are doing that. I did buy 2 copies of LLWD. =) I’ve got the pass, and I’ll most likely have to get the Walmart CD because I like the hard copies too.

The album is holding its own at #32. We need TV appearances SOON.

    Now THAT would be sweet.

4 more positions to go to overtake John Mayer!!! Go KRIS GO! :)

I would say yes, because Mike Elizondo’s name was thrown around a lot early on during the recording of the album, and I know he produced the track “Send Me All Your Angels” as well along with Kris and Chris Daughtry.

Wow, really? That’s nuts! As a newbie to this whole Idol business, it’s really fascinating to see how a fanbase works to get their favorites on the charts and get them airplay, etc. It’s like your own little street team! Kris and the rest of the American Idols definitely have it made! Some bands have and artists have to wait years before they get a fanbase this big and as committed. Say what you want about Idol, but this is one of the biggest platforms you could possibly have if you want to make it in the music business. But then again, lesser successful Idols like Taylor Hicks and Fantasia Barrino are proof that maybe some fanbases dwindle or lose interest over time.

I have a feeling Kris has some major staying power :)

  92. amielee “# 32 right..i’m hoping he cracks the TOP 10′ ¦”

That would be terrific but not sure he can as the iTune pass will certainly screw up his number again. Really won’t be able to tell how well he will sell till the first week sale is out.

  93. I wish we knew if these current rankings take the iTunes pass sales into account.

Starr, I wish I could have warned you. I learned my lesson after Cook last year. I got FIVE copies: one iTunes, one Walmart, two Amazon (because there was a mixup on ship dates), and then an extra Walmart copy for a friend, who was a BIG Cook fan but found herself overdrawn just before the release and had to pay her bills instead. The two Amazon copies became Christmas gifts.

THIS time I didn’t even go to Amazon…waste of time if you want anything beyond the basic album. I already got the pass and planned for the Walmart version. NOW I have a dilemma with the pre-order bonus issue; do I order it AGAIN?

  95. LOL @cookbunny I wish I had been warned! But that’s OK. Kris will probably be the only AI I will be investing this much in, so it’s not really a big deal. Hey, the more copies the better for Christmas!

  96. Okay, I was just exploring iTunes a little bit and wondering why John Mayer wasn’t ahead of Kris on the pop thread/feed (whatever it’s called). He (JM) actually has a poster up on the pop section, but is listed under rock. Huh?

  97. Okay, screw it…I pre-ordered.

If it turns out to be duplicated I’ll get the new John Mayer with the refund.

  98. cookcricket : “Okay, I was just exploring iTunes a little bit and wondering why John Mayer wasn’t ahead of Kris on the pop thread/feed (whatever it’s called). He (JM) actually has a poster up on the pop section, but is listed under rock. Huh?”

That’s because John Mayer isn’t on the Pop list but Rock list instead. Took me a while to find out where he was beside the main list.

  99. Starr : “I wish we knew if these current rankings take the iTunes pass sales into account.”

I don’t think so because they appear as 2 separate albums on iTunes.

  100. snlw, yeah I know he’s listed under Rock, but why would they have a banner for him under Pop?

Also, when you click on the ad for Kris in Pop it takes you the iTunes pass…ah well, I guess we’ll just have to wait until the actually album comes out to find out where he actually stands. I really believe he’ll sell more once he starts his TV talk show rounds.

I have a feeling Kris has some major staying power :)

I think so too Starr and I really think he has the potential to gain fans outside of the idol bubble.

  101. Okay, my song today is “The Truth” :D I love it; love Kris’s intensity in his voice when he sings it.

  102. ok you guys are going to be proud of me!

for all my kris loving, i have never bought a single from him. in fact all my life, i have never even bought a CD, cos i used to believe in downloading heh! and this will be my first time!!!! kris has inspired me soo….

    pretty excited….

  103. @SarahP Just for that, you get an e-hug LOL :D

Kris’s CD will be the first one I’ve ever pre-ordered. I’ve been gaga over bands before but I’ve never bothered to pre-order their CDs, but this is a first! :D

  104. aww thanks Starr! i needed that e-hug before i start off my day!

off to work now, with filings, and emailings and meetings, and problem solvings, with only the thought of the kris pre-order to keep me going..hehe (ok i exagerate)

thanks starr, and talk later! tata

  105. YAY for SarahP and Starr!!!

Well, I confess as I’ve never purchased any digital songs and so had never used iTunes till S8 because of Kris! :) I purchased quite a number of his performances on S8 and some studio ones too.

  106. cookbunny: “Okay, screw it’ ¦I pre-ordered.”

LOL that’s so cute… I love that Good attitude! :)

  107. De-lurking:

Same here, never order from I-tunes before Kris, never gone to this
    blog, nor ordered multiple albums.
Now I have the I-tune pass and plan to buy the Wal-Mart CD.

I’ll wait a couple more days before deciding if I need to buy this pre-sale CD w/ the bonus track. Hopefully I’ll read more informations from you guys.

Is this pre-sale for the next 2 weeks only ?

Love Kris, and he’ll be OK no matter where he is on the chart.

  108. Ratna12 :

Yeah me too. Had the iTunes Pass and pre-ordered from Amazon and will pick up a copy from wal-mart just for Daughtry’s bonus track. Will likely get another verson just for Mat Kearney as well.

And hope you’re right that he’ll be OK no matter where he is on the chart. All I really care is that he has a long and lasting music career and I believe that’s what he want!

  109. haha to cookbunny. kudos to SarahP and everyone else getting on the bandwagon!

Starr: As a newbie to this whole Idol business, it’s really fascinating to see how a fanbase works to get their favorites on the charts and get them airplay, etc. It’s like your own little street team! Kris and the rest of the American Idols definitely have it made!

True, they are very lucky. Idol is a huge platform, but not everybody makes it. But I honestly think Kris will. Just think about all of the mentors last year who loooooved Kris (Jamie Foxx, Smokey Robinson, ___________ (can’t remember the others…oh, that Quentin guy said something positive too).

As for the rabid idol fans, a Cook friend of mine last year bought 7 CDs and gave them as Christmas gifts…which seems a little presumptious (I hope her friends share her taste in music!), but she was definitely a dedicated fan!!

  110. Ok, late to the party :(
This is my first pre-order as well. I bought the pass and I’m going to re-order tomorrow to get the bonus tune. I’ll just hope for the best with Apple at a later date.

So now it’s Wednesday – not much longer till the mv.

  111. snlw:

OK, I thought that the bonus track “From the Ashes” is not from
Mat Kearney. I did not hear about the possibility of the Mat Kearney
song appearing anywhere. Or am I mistaken ?

I’m hoping that “Live from the Vineyard” gig is allowed to be
videotaped. Wonder what he is going to sing ?

  112. @Ratna: You’re right. “From the Ashes” is NOT the Mat Kearney song. The song is written by Kris, Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad. These two were the same songwriters Kris wrote “I Need to Know” with.

  113. Ratna12 :
“OK, I thought that the bonus track ‘From the Ashes’ is not from
Mat Kearney. I did not hear about the possibility of the Mat Kearney
song appearing anywhere. Or am I mistaken ?”

Sorry for the confusion.. I knew that “From the Ashes” wasn’t the Mat Kearney song, but I still haven’t given up hope on it and hoping that the Target’s (or some other store that they will release it to) version will include it. :)

As for “From the Ashes”, I’m assuming that the iTunes Pass will include it and so I’m not too concerned about it. May be I should be concerned…

  114. What bothers me about the Pass that we bought is none of the tracks are listed and, unless something changes, you only get 10 songs. The pre-order is 14 songs including the single (which I bought twice now) and the bonus track.

So I’m really torn on if I should go ahead and pre-order the album. THis is really poor performance on the part of Jive. Certainly they should know by now what they’ll be giving us with the Pass.

  115. Felt the need to say that I do know how to spell presumptuous…this thing would not let me edit last night!

Starr, how do we know From the Ashes was “written by Kris, Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad.” I must have missed something.

  116. how do we know From the Ashes was ‘written by Kris, Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad.’

It was confirmed by 19 yesterday or Monday.

Just checked i-tunes and KA the album (KATA?) is sitting at #8 in pop and #38 in overall. I-tunes still using the old NoBo pic of Kris for the “banner” in the what’s hot section.

Is this thread dying or living? :-)

  117. I tried to figure out the whole pass/pre-order thing, and figured I’d just pre-order “in case.” I kinda owe him for BNS, anyway.

  118. I’m still here, snlw!!

So what song is in everyone’s head today? For me, it’s “Before We Come Undone”. I was watching the Miami YT vids last night so that’s probably why. I’m with Lyndsey Parker and really really really hope some tv show picks it up. It has grown on me alot thanks to those tailgate videos. I wonder if Kris will do an acoustic version of it this weekend? That would be cool.

Popping in and out, with a sick one at home (hand sanitizer in my pocket!)…

  119. Just a reminder: friday is 2 day away and Kris’ LLWD video will be up!!! Can’t wait!

hoosiermama, sorry to hear that and hope your sick one will get better soon.

  120. snlw: Thanks for the news Starr! Tickets are sold out! Cool!

Cuz Kris is gonna be there!!!

thanks hoosiermama for the clarification on From the Ashes.

  121. I see them now! That man is a natural beauty and I wish the People mag had picked one of these photos for the “Sexiest Man Alive” thingy.

  122. Starr : ‘Kris Allen to perform at Celebration of Dreams party in Sta Barbara, CA on Nov 6 http://www.firstladies.dreamfoundation.org/

Very nice event!! I love that it promises “world class entertainment” and its KRIS! As much as I love his natural look, I think Kris will need to step it up a notch here–black tie? Would love to see that! *swoon*

  123. “In 24 hours everyone will know – A limited album package directly from Kris!” Just got that in my email.

  124. snlw, I wonder what it is? Did this come from his website?

Wow, Kris is going to be a “world class entertainer”, cool!

    Pictures! Thanks Starr! Swoon!!!

I feel like I’m a bad DC fan, I only bought one CD and downloaded his album from iTunes. (I thought 2 copies was a lot. Hee.)

Good to see some of you were here today. mj’s seems to be moving slowly tonight, or is that just me? *waves at everyone*

Also, it’s not just you as I’m having a lot of trouble with MJs site as well. It’s extremely slow.

  126. Hi everyone. Another Kris fan here. I can’t wait until Friday when his video comes out. I already have his itunes pass and am planning on picking up his CD at walmart as soon as it comes out. I can’t wait until 11/17.

BTW: Has anyone asked MJ to post the details about Kris’s contest in a seperate post?
