Platinum Hit – Wheels Up – Recap & Video

So…who out there is watching Kara DioGuardi’s songwriter competition reality show Platinum Hit?  The contestants are mildly interesting–my favorites being the ones I knew already from Idol–Jes Hudak and Jackie Tohn.  But Kara and co-host/judge Jewel? They are like botronics from the planet bot. I swear, I miss Kara at her neurotic worst on Idol as I watch her perfectly edited and boring remarks to the contestants on this show.

What makes Platinum Hit semi-interesting is watching the contestants collaborate on songs, followed by the performances of their efforts. And of course, my favorite part–the bus throwing. That’s were the contestants in the bottom group are urged to point fingers and blame each other while explaining why their horrible song was so horrible.

This week the theme was “Road Songs”.  The winners of the hook challenge: Jackie Tohn in 3rd, Jes Hudak in 2nd and Johnny Marnell as the winner got to pick their teams–with a twist.  Winner Johnny had the privilege of picking his entire team before Jackie and Jes.  Nobody wanted Nick Nitolli, who is clearly filling the villain role in this reality story.  Oh, and there’s a budding “romance” between Jes and Johnny which I suspect is 100 percent for the cameras.

All the songs presented are solid, but Jackie and her team lose the challenge and get dressed down by Jewel,   Kara and the guest judges Natasha Bedingfield and Naftaly from Jive Records.  Jackie is so upset, she’s sobbing–sure she’s going to be eliminated. But instead it’s Nashville native, Karen Waldrup who goes home. She always struck me as a bit of a flake, so no loss, really.

If you want to watch: The show airs on Bravo at 1o pm and is repeated throughout the week. Full episodes and videos clips can be found at the Official Website.

Check out the videos. And sorry they’re in black and white. My video card has been doing some wacky stuff lately.
