NBC has released the network’s 2022 mid-season schedule. The new competition reality show, American Song Contest, based on the long-running European Song Contest, will premiere on Monday February 21.

According the description below, ALL performances will air LIVE and will feature three rounds, including a Grand Finale. The competition will feature original musical performances representing all 50 states, five U.S. territories and the USA  capital,

The question is, will competition show fans embrace original songs? Or does it matter, as they go all in for the sports-like aspect of rooting for one’s own state. Live shows should prove to be exciting, as well as spoiler free (unfortunately). As most of you know, The Voice has been scaled back to once a year. American Song Contest is taking the veteran show’s spot in the midseason schedule.

American Song Contest Will Air Live (Synopsis)

America’s biggest live entertainment event has arrived! Based on the worldwide phenomenon? Eurovision?Song?Contest, ?organized for 65 years by the European Broadcasting Union and watched by 200 million viewers annually, this amazing musical spectacular combines the competitive spirit of rooting for your favorite sports team with the joy of watching a beloved singing performance.

American?Song?Contest will feature live original musical performances – representing all 50 states, five U.S. territories and our nation’s capital – competing to win the country’s vote for the Best Original?Song. An incredible solo artist, duo or a band will represent each location and perform a new original?song, celebrating the different styles and genres across America. The live competition consists of three rounds as the acts compete in a series of Qualifying Rounds, followed by the Semi Finals and the ultimate Grand Final where one state or territory will emerge victorious.

America’s Got Talent: Extreme NOT on Schedule, but NBC expects to schedule it mid-season, possibly on Sunday

Conspicuously absent from the schedule below? Simon Cowell’s America’s Got Talent: Extreme. The show paused production after an escape act went horribly, horribly wrong, seriously injuring the contestant and landing him in the hospital, where he is still recovering.

Frances Berwick, Chairman, Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said NBC still expects to be able to air it in a midseason slot, potentially on Sunday nights. That time slot would likely compete with American Idol

“We have an investigation ongoing into what actually happened but we do anticipate the show coming back in midseason. We have a lot of safety protocols in place and we have to conclude the investigation but we have certainly paused production for the time being,” she said.
