The Voice auditions begin on July 15 in Chicago. The Top 8 begin their nationwide tour in Los Angeles on July 27

I just stumbled across the original email I received asking me to audition for the show. I’ll never forget where I was, who I was with, what I was thinking, and of course, what happened in the days and weeks to follow. So, as The Voice begins casting for season 2 tomorrow morning in Chicago I wanted to share a quick word with everyone waiting in line to audition.

First and foremost, please remember to be patient. The Voice is now a hit TV show and lots of people want to be on a team. I heard that over 10, 000 people have registered for just ONE of the cities on the audition tour! So pack a lunch, bring some bottled water, and be nice to everyone in line with you (they may end up being on your team).

Be especially nice to the casting team. Remember, they have a TON of people to see so make the most of your time with them. You should treat every single person working that audition as if they hold the keys to you being on the show, because guess what… Right now they do! Seriously, I don’t care who it is, being nice to people goes a LONG way in any business, but especially show business.

Regarding song selection I will only say this. Choose a song that you can absolutely sing to the best of your ability, make your own, and don’t over sing it to impress. In case you’re wondering what song I sang at my audition in Austin, it was Justin Bieber’s “Baby” mashed up with the Otis Redding classic, “She Put The Hurt On Me.” This was my way of showing that I could sing current Pop hits while remaining true to the old-school, soulful sounds that inspire me.

Finally… When it’s your turn to audition, take a deep breath, smile, and sing from your heart! This is your opportunity to show ‘em what you’ve got. Nobody else can do this for you. Most importantly – and I can’t stress this enough – BE YOURSELF!! The Voice is a great show with a good heart. It nurtures and showcases the natural talents of some of the world’s best singers and you may be one of them, but you’ll never get on the show by being someone other than who you are. So stay true to you and whether you make it on the show or not, you’ll leave that audition knowing that you gave it your all.

I wish you the best in your audition and hope you knock ‘em dead! I hope to see each of you out on the road soon. Remember The Voice Tour featuring the Top 8 will be hitting the road on July 27th. You can get tickets online now by clicking here.
