Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Sep 14-20

Five milestones this week – one from the Sing-Off, one from X-Factor UK, one from the Voice and two from Idol.

Carrie Underwood continues to impress. “Smoke Break” takes the huge climb from 15th to top 10 on the Country charts in just one week with the largest bullet in the format. While steaming up 5 slots in the lower parts of a chart can easily be achieved, moving from 15th to 10th can often be a long slog especially in the Country format where many a song has stalled. No stalling for this debut track for Carrie’s new album coming out in October.

Meanwhile, Pentatonix, winner of The Sing-Off, debut their first original, non-Christmas song on the charts. Pentatonix has become quite reliable with the Christmas songs (even dominating the album of the season), but have struggled to get airplay for their other songs (plenty of youtube hits). “Can’t Sleep Love” is their foray into non-seasonal originals and it debuted in the top 50 on AC.

Also debuting this week in the top 50 is the Voice’s VEDO. “Classic” breaks through on Urban in the top 50.

Adam Lambert’s “Ghost Town” arrives in the top 20 on Pop this week.”Ghost Town” is the debut single of Adam’s latest album and it is now charting in all three mainstream formats (having returned to AC this week).

Finally, we have One Direction hitting a milestone in HAC. “Drag Me Down” is their debut single for their fifth album and the first with just four members. The song goes top 30, but is slowing down a bit on Pop with word that a new single will soon be released. No moss on One Direction which thrives on lots of singles being released (acts that skew to a younger fan base tend to do that).
