Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Nov 14-20

Five milestones to kick off our Thanksgiving week.

The Christmas songs are on the move this week. “Hallelujah” may not seem like a Christmas song to those who actually listen to the lyrics, but most people just listen to the “Hallelujah”‘s in the chorus…so, Pentatonix kicked off their latest Christmas album with a gorgeous version. It may have gotten a burst from the death of Leonard Cohen last week, but it powered itself up to top 30 on AC this week.

Also appearing on AC this week after a big jump? Voice winner Jordan Smith. He’s on their with an ode to the Green one – “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”. That’s not really a singer’s song with the original being sung by “Tony the Tiger” (aka Thurl Ravenscroft). So, I’m off to Youtube for a listen. How long before we get a version of a “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Trump”?

Country also sees two milestones this week. Carrie Underwood’s “Dirty Laundry” gets aired in the top 10 this week. Can it hit number 1? Maybe after the Christmas freeze. Lauren Alaina was runner-up on Season 10 of Idol and her “Road Less Travelled” walks up to the top 20 this week.

Another runner-up from Idol – La’Porsha Renae. The last Idol runner-up. Her debut song “Good Woman” is now top 20 on UAC.

The AMA’s were last night and performers were awarded with boosts on iTunes. This morning Niall Horan’s “This Town” is number 7th and Fifth Harmony’s “My Girl” is 48th.
