WHOA KA-CHING! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Morrison will sing his new single “Still Got Tonight” on the big New York-themed Season 2 finale!
What makes this news even more exciting? American Idol Season 8 winner, Kris Allen co-wrote the song! HOORAY!
Morrison’s character Will Schuester will perform the sweeping ballad, which was co-written by American Idol Season 8 winner Kris Allen along with Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner, alone on a stage in an empty theater — a far cry from the big dance number that the series had originally planned — in a scene directed by Glee creator Ryan Murphy.
“It was going to be just a big dance piece with me doing this big dance number, ” Morrison said. “But they said, ‘We want you to sing it and make it a big moment.’ ”
“It’s about aspiration, ” Murphy said. “It worked because we wanted to do a scene where Matt goes into a Broadway hall and sings something alone. Plus, Matt is such a great team player and he’s done so much for different Glee charities.”
Inclusion on the Glee finale means the song will be exposed to a much wider audience than it has so far. You all know how well Glee songs from the show chart on iTunes. Plus, Kris will earn royalties from the song appearing on the episode. Big congrats go out to Kris!
Glee’s Season 2 finale airs May 24 on Fox.
