More bad news for Donald Trump. The next in a long line of companies dumping Donald Trump is Macy’s. Read the retailer’s official statement below.
“In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004. Macy’s is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion. We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form. We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture. We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation.”
A MoveOn.org petition, demanding the retailer sever ties with Trump, collected more than 700,000 signatures.
Macy’s move comes after Univision and NBC cut ties with the real estate mogul after controversial remarks he made during his recent presidential campaign announcement. The Spanish and English language networks will no longer broadcast the upcoming Miss USA Pageant on July 12. Additionally, Trump has been fired from the NBC reality competition, Celebrity Apprentice.
The pageant will still take place in Baton Rouge, LA on July 12. The event will be livestreamed on the official Miss USA Official website. The event, however, will go on without co-hosts, dance pro Cheryl Burke and MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts. Both bowed out due to the controversy.
In response, Trump has filed a $500 million breach of contract and defamation lawsuit against Univision, charging the media company breached a 5 year licensing deal.
UPDATE: Donald Trump reacts predictably in a new statement. He’s delusional if he thinks anybody believes he’s driving this bus. Good luck finding a vendor for that new product line!
“I have decided to terminate my relationship with Macy’s because of the pressure being put on them by outside sources. While selling Trump ties and shirts at Macy’s is a small business in terms of dollar volume, my principles are far more important and therefore much more valuable. I have never been happy about the fact that the ties and shirts are made in China, and should I start a new product line somewhere in the future, I would insist that they are made in America. I am not beholden to anyone and this includes NBC and Macy’s. Clearly, NBC and Macy’s support illegal immigration, which is totally detrimental to the fabric of our once great country.”
