American Idol’s Haley Reinhart drops her cover of “We Can Be Heroes” on David Bowie’s 74th birthday (Jan 8).
The song is from the Netflix film We Can Be Heroes, directed by Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids). Haley not only contributed the title song, but she starred in the family film as well.
The plot involve alien invaders who kidnap Earth’s superheroes. In response, their children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world. Each of the superheroes have special power. Haley character is named VOX, a moniker that is self explanatory.

A snip of Haley’s cover song plays during a pivotal and moving scene in the film, when VOX’s daughter, acappella, comes into her own power and saves the day.

Netflix released the film on Christmas day and it did so well, that the streamer is now planning a sequel. “…44 Million families watched #wecanbeheroes in the 1st 4 weeks, helping make this @netflix biggest holiday viewing season EVER,” Haley wrote on social media adding, “Beyond thrilled that we’re comin back with a sequel!!!”
