It’s been a week since Kelly Clarkson made an emotional appearance on American Idol to perform a piano driven version of her single, “Piece by Piece.” Shortly after, she dropped by the Ellen Degeneres show to share her feelings on her inability to keep the tears at bay during the performance.
“I came off [stage] nearly in tears for a different reason,” the singer said, “I was so embarrassed!” Kelly confessed that she was almost losing it through the entire song. During rehearsals that day she “couldn’t get through it.”
Between her one year old daughter, River Rose running around the halls she did as a 19 year old contestant in 2002, knowing it would be the very last time she’d appear on Idol, (She filmed another tear-filled performance for the finale the the day before), and toss in her unborn son doing flip flops in her stomach–needless to say the emotions hit her like a ton of bricks. “I was screwed from the get go,” she joked, “A slip and slide from hell!”
The day after Kelly’s Idol appearance, she hit the studio to record an “Idol” version of the song which is currently No. 4 on the iTunes chart. The studio version should have a big week on the charts as well, after it zoomed to No. 1 on iTunes immediately after Kelly’s Idol performance. A remixed version of the album Piece by Piece will be out on March 4.
