The newly minted American idol 15 Top 10 provided good, bad and so so moments throughout Thursday night’s telecast, but then Queen Kelly Clarkson took the stage. The original American Idol was a guest judge on the panel and she closed the show with an incredibly emotional performance of “Piece by Piece” from the album of the same name.
She simply provided a masterclass to the contenders on how to perform an incredible vocal while fearlessly tapping into deep emotions to create a connection with the audience. Hopefully they were ALL taking mental notes.
“Piece by Piece” is a highly personal song about how Kelly is finally able to trust and rely on the family she’s created–a husband who will stand by her and her child. She promises to always be there for her daughter in a way her own father wasn’t.
Maybe it was the hormones kicking in, as she wiped away tears after the performance. The singer is SEVEN weeks away from her due date! But I ain’t mad. That was one of the most stirring and poignant performances I’ve witnessed on my TV in a long long time. Judge Keith Urban and contestant La’Porsha Renae were crying right along with her.
