The Kelly Clarkson Show is off to a terrific start, ratings wise. Deadline reports that the new afternoon talk show from the OG American Idol winner and The Voice coach broke records with it’s Monday September 9 debut:
NBCUniversal’s Kelly Clarkson premiered yesterday to a 1.9 household rating across primary runs in the metered markets. That marks the highest debut rating for a first run syndicated show in seven years, since September 2012 when Katie Couric’s Katie and Steve Harvey opened with a 2.8 and 1.5 HH rating, respectively.
The show, improved +36% over lead-in and +73% over the year ago (Sept. 2018) time period.
That time period is 2 PM, leading to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, on most NBC stations that aired Steve Harvey‘s successor, Steve, in the hour before replacing it with Kelly Clarkson.
It’s important to note that Katie Couric’s show was cancelled after two seasons. And well, we know what happened to Steve Harvey. It’s too early to tell if The Kelly Clarkson Show will be successful in the long run. But nevertheless, Kelly is off to a great start.
She tweeted about the ratings on Tuesday, “A big thank you to everyone who watched the premiere of #TheKellyClarksonShow yesterday!!, Kelly wrote on Twitter, “Y’all are amazing!! Thank you so much for the support!! Apparently we did really well with ratings so WOOOHOOOO!!!”

Speaking of Ellen. She’s a star who could tell Kelly Clarkson a thing or two about how to keep an afternoon talk show successful. The doyenne of daytime TV dropped by Kelly’s show on Tuesday to give her a few tips. And a lovely painting which she insisted Kelly hang in her studio. Ha. Watch the clip below.
Also, Kelly will perform a different cover song to open every show. It’s a cover a night is thing she has been doing on tour for years. On Tuesday, Kelly sang “Sucker” by Jonas Brothers. The show dubs the opening “Kellyoke” Heh.
On Wednesday, Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”
