Kelly Clarkson kicks off her Las Vegas Residency covering Harry Styles, singing fan favorites and songs from ‘chemistry’

Kelly Clarkson launched her 10 day Las Vegas residency on Friday night.

“I haven’t done a show, I feel like, in 9,000 years,” the American Idol OG winner said before a sold-out crowd at Planet Hollywood’s Bakkt Theater.

Throughout Kelly’s 95-minute show, named Chemistry after her latest album of the same name, the afternoon talk show host ran through her two decades long catalog of songs including, “Because Of You,” “Since U Been Gone” “Miss Independent,” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).”

Kelly covered Harry Styles’ “As it Was”

As she does on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer will perform a “Kellyoke” cover every night. But actually, it’s a tradition that began on the road years before her talk show kicked off in 2019. On her first night, Kelly performed Harry Styles “As it Was.” FUN FACT: That’s American Idol season 8 finalist Allison Iraheta singing background vocals on the far right. Allison has toured with Kelly previously.

“We’re gonna go a little Kellyoke every night,” Clarkson said prior to Styles’ song. “We were supposed to sing this actually on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and then all the strikes happened and nobody has a job now, so we didn’t get to perform it on the show.”

The Kelly fan who filmed “As It Was” appears to have filmed the entire show. Watch the full set below via a handy Youtube playlist!

“If you’re going to throw s—, throw diamonds!”

The show kicked off with the Chemistry cut “favorite kind of high,” among a slew of songs from the new album. Ahead of singing “Broken & Beautiful” from the movie Ugly Dolls, Kelly joked “Don’t throw anything people!” alluding to the recent incidents of fans throwing dangerous objects on stage. “If you’re going to throw s—, throw diamonds!”

During “Breakaway,” she went out into the audience–with her guitarist close behind–to meet and greet her fans. Speaking of which, fans are already singing along with her current single, “Mine.”

Kelly shades her ex

She also performed, “My Life Would Suck Without You,” “A Whole Lotta Women,” and “the Gayle cover “abcdefu” including a lyric change directed straight at her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock and his father–Kelly’s ex-manager who is suing her. “F— you and your dad and the fact that you got half, and my broken heart, turn that s— into art. F— you, and your view from the valley I bought you, everybody but your dogs, you can all f— off!”

Additionally, Kelly responded hilariously to a female fan who waved a sign that read: “My girlfriend gave me a hall pass for you,” to which Kelly responded that she’s not into chicks and “unfortunately likes d**ks.” Watch the clip on Twitter (X).

Kelly promises her fans that the set list will be different every night.
