American Idol season 3 winner Ruben Studdard serenades a warring couple on Judge Steve Harvey

Ruben Studdard made an appearance on the ABC reality courtroom series, Judge Steve Harvey to serenade a couple embroiled in a money dispute.

Get this–Joy Clarke sued her fiance Andre Kelly for $7,826.29 for expenses incurred while she waited two years for him to propose to her. She claims that she spent money on hair, nails, outfits and therapy while he missed opportunity after opportunity to get down on one knee. Andre insists he was waiting for the perfect time to propose.

The couple embarked on numerous international vacations, where Joy expected the proposal. The two had a wedding date, suggested to them by an astrologer in Bali early in their relationship (!!!). But Andre put it off continually, until finally after two years he DID propose, and Joy accepted. They set a new date (they missed the first one). But regardless, Joy wants her MONEY.

Additionally, Andre’s low key proposal on a Malibu beach was not fancy enough and did not meet Joy’s high standards. In the end, Steve awarded Joy 3,600.00 for the therapy sessions, but felt the rest of the expenses would have been incurred with or without a proposal.

Ruben serenades a couple’s “re-proposal”

Now, here is where the American Idol season 3 winner comes in. Andre proposed again, with a bouquet of flowers, some fancy words and a serenade from the “velvet teddy bear.”

It was all pretty silly, and probably fake. But Ruben’s rendition of his single, “The Way I Remember It” is as sweet as could be. Joy got some money, a “high profile” proposal and a personal performance from Ruben Studdard. Finally, she was happy.

Good luck with that marriage, kids. Divorce papers filed in 5-4-3-2-1…..

Ruben is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his American Idol win this year! He’s playing solo dates this summer. Beginning at the end of September, he and season 3 runner-up Clay Aiken will return to their joint tour, “Twenty Years, One Night.” The tour runs through mid October. More information HERE.
