The Steven Spielberg-produced musical drama could very well be THE breakout role for Katharine, who was the American Idol runner-up way back in 2006.

Katharine plays Karen Cartwright, a wide-eyed hopeful who moves to New York City to fulfill her dreams of becoming a stage actress. She auditions for the role of Marilyn in a new stage musical about the legend. Smash invites us to take a peek at the drama, heartbreak and triumphs as a team of creative people attempt to mount a new musical.
The new show also stars Debra Messing, Megan Hilty, and Angelica Huston.
