It’s been made official. Jordin Sparks has signed on with Salaam Remi’s Sony Music imprint, Louder than Life. The American Idol Season 6 alum released “It Ain’t You” this week, the first single of her new era.
Last month, Jordin previewed new music on her #ByeFelicia mixtape that featured a few obvious swipes at her ex-boyfriend, Jason Derulo. It also revealed the singer, shedding the squeaky clean image of her youth for something a little edgier and mature. The singer is set to release her third album, Right Here, Right Now in 2015.
When Louder than Life records was launched last year by Remi, a singer/songwriter who rose through the executive A&R ranks at Sony, told Billboard that the new label would be artist development-focused and target youth and urban culture via genres such as pop, hip-hop, R&B and jazz.
“[Sony chairman/CEO] Doug Morris has given me a great opportunity to incubate and market artists,” Remi said at the time.

”I am very excited to be working alongside Salaam Remi on my next album—Together, we have created something special. I’m very proud of it and can’t wait to share it!” said Jordin in a press release. Jordin met Remi three years ago on the set of the movie Sparkle. They got to chatting about music and eventually decided to work together.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Jordin about moving to Louder Than Life from her previous label, RCA, “If I’m going to be honest, RCA didn’t really know what to do with me. I didn’t really want to be stuck there anymore. I appreciate everything that they did for me previously, but it was time to move on and go somewhere I could get some stuff done.
“I never stopped recording actually. It was like they dangled the carrot in front of me and kept telling me it was going to happen, but then it never did. I can’t tell you what they were thinking, but I can tell you that I really felt stifled there. I had so much that I wanted to do…so many times I was in the studio, and so many times I came in with really great material, and it just didn’t work. I’m happy for the artists that they are working on, and I’m really happy in the place that I’m in now. There’s no ill will at all. You have to move on. Everything has its season.”
Onwards and upwards!
Jordin’s music will be released jointly by 19 Records and Louder Than Life records.
