“15 YEARS LATER: @chrisbrownofficial and I returned to the stage to perform No Air,” Jordin wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Chris for having me at the final stop of your ‘One of Them Ones’ tour, ended it with a bang in Vegas!!! The crowd was lit!!! Loved hearing you scream every word of this song!!! My heart.”
During his surprise introduction of Jordin, Brown said, “Me and this person haven’t performed this song since I was…18. What the F-!” Jordin, fresh off her Idol win, was still only a teenager as well. When Jordin hit the stage, the crowd cheered. The two hugged before launching into a rendition of the song, as if it were 2008!
It’s a nice little marker for Jordin, who won American Idol in 2007, 15 years ago, at age 17.
“No Air,” written by James Fauntleroy II, Harvey Mason Jr., Steve Russell, Erik Griggs and Damon Thomas, was the second single from Jordin’s post-Idol debut album. The song reached No. 3 in the United States and sold over 3 million copies, making Jordin the first American Idol alum to sell over 3M singles.
The song earned Jordin and Brown a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with vocals at the 51st Grammy Awards. At the time, both Jordin and Brown were emerging artists. Two years later, having become a bonafide star, Brown was arrested after beating singer Rihanna in a car on their way to an awards show. while Jordin distanced herself from Brown at the time, she’s on record saying that she wouldn’t hesitate to record another duet with him.
These days, Jordin is getting ready to release new music.
“I don’t think you guys are ready because it’s not just an album. It’s a lot of music,” She told her fans on Instagram live. “I spent the second half [of] 2020 and 2021 going through and recording music,” She continued, “Last year. I was in the studio at least four times a week, writing and recording.”
“Our goal was to write and record a hundred songs [last year] and I did that, and then some .”
I did get to be in studio with the one and only T-Pain and that has been a dream of mine,” she said “I’ve been wanting to work with him for so long. Fun fact: Hip hop artist T-Pain won the inaugural season of The Masked Singer as The Monster in 2019.
Additionally, Jordin recorded with Young Dro. “‘Shoulder Lean’ was THE song in my childhood I remember about the listening to in the car,” she gushed. She also revealed that she collaborated with Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men.
In May, Jordin appeared on the “Great Idol Reunion” special. She sang a duet of “I Knew You Were Waiting” with season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard to celebrate the 20th anniversary of American Idol.
