Some say Jennifer Hudson was snubbed after failing to be nominated for a Tony award this morning. The American Idol season 3 alum has gotten good reviews for her portrayal of Shug in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple. But alas, while fellow castmates Cynthia Erivo and Danielle Brooks received nods, Jhud will continue to remain halfway to an EGOT (Oscar AND Grammy winner) for the time being. At least until Broadway comes knocking at her door again.
This morning on twitter, Jennifer was candid about a possible reason why she was not nominated. But when the tweet started becoming a thing on the internet, she deleted it.
Oops. It’s probably true to an extent. Most folks outside of the Broadway realm know who Jennifer Hudson is. But her “outsider” status being the reason she didn’t get a nod? It’s certainly arguable. Jennifer is leaving the role on May 8, half way through the voting window. She’ll be long gone by the time the Tony’s happen on June 12.
She did congratulate her fellow nominees, including the producers of The Color Purple, nominated for Best Revival of a Musical.
Last night, Jennifer attended the Met Ball in NYC and wore this stunning dress. Wow.
