Tony Nominations were revealed Tuesday morning live from the Diamond Horseshoe at the Paramount Hotel in New York, that had Hamilton setting a record with 16 nominations. Expect the revolutionary hip hop musical about the life and times of Alexander Hamilton to win all of the awards when the trophies are handed out on June 12 at the Beacon Theatre. Late Late Show host and Tony Winner for One Man Two Guvnors in 2012, James Corden, will be hosting.
Jennifer Hudson, who plays a supporting role in The Color Purple did not receive a nod, but the star of the show, Cynthia Erivo, did. The musical was nominated in the Best Revival of a Musical category. Nominated for a Best Actor Tony in 2009 for Rock of Ages, Constantine Maroulis is an investor in the Deaf West Revival of Spring Awakening, also nominated.
Also notable: Laura Benanti from The Sound of Music Live, Leslie Odom Jr. and Megan Hilty from Smash and Jonathan Groff from Glee all received actor nods.
The Tony Awards will air live on CBS.
