Idols In Concert – Stats – 09/15/16

Just one concert to report…Canadian Idol Carly Rae Jepson was at Ashbury Park.

HDD runs down some of the big Q4 releases. Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Drake and The Weeknd have albums coming out this fall (Drake releases a couple of albums a year – the guy must just burn money in votive candle holders). Remember when we could anticipate a big Idol release every Q4? Remember scrambling for snippets of information about songs, producers and co-writers? Remember the first singles?

Tidal is for sale. As the WSJ put it ““In the year rap mogul Jay Z took control of Tidal, the music-streaming service more than doubled its net loss, burning cash at a rapid rate and testing the depth of its owner’s pocket” (Drake releases his albums on Apple – that’s why he’s making money and topping charts). In a way, Tidal was a good idea. Musicians on the service and finally make the big bucks. But, it just turned a few musicians into industry moguls while they expected all the other musicians to offer exclusives in solidarity. Nope. The other musicians want to make hay while the sun shines too and other services offer bonuses and listeners. Fun fact? Drake’s streaming across all platforms exceeds the total of the top 1000 streamers on Tidal…by a half billion. Even owners of the service like Jason Aldean and Kayne West are bypassing the service. BTW, you may recall Kayne West chirping at Jimmy Iovine to give Jay Z a bunch of money to buy Tidal…the financials coming out explain why Kayne West was in favour of that deal.
