Idol Sales News – Week Ending 02/15/15

The Final HDD predictions are in and as expected since Friday, Drake’s “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late” finished at the top of the charts with 500K in sales and 542K in combined. Drake threatens to top the chart next week again where “Imagine Dragons” had previously been thought they would take it in a walk. “Fifty Shades of Grey” will have to be satisfied with second place on the charts. Sam, Ed and Taylor were featured during the Grammys (I think Taylor Swift has cloned herself because she appears to be everywhere at one these days) and they hold down spots 3 through 5. This is the first time I’ve seen the sales/SPS charts with nobody switching positions in the top 5.

Meghan Trainor, Maroon V, Fifth Harmony and One Direction all rise on the combined charts (the new chart favours single selling Pop radio) while Now 53/Grammies (compilation albums), Beck (Rock) and Carrie (Country) slide back.

It’s a tight race for the top of the Hot 100 this week with “Uptown Funk” continuing to be a monster while “Thinking Out Loud” topped the download charts for most of the week. Could the SPS give us a hint? Ed went from 86,318 on sales to 131,282 on combined (44,964) while Mark went from 8,431 to 41,639 (33,028). Most of Mark’s TEAs/SEAs will come from UF, while Ed does have a variety of songs that are contributing. UF has a commanding lead on airplay (232.813 vs 187.946). It will probably be UF’s 10th week at the top of the chart.
