Loren Lott interview – Loren Lott, a Clark Atlanta University 2014 graduate, is a top 48 finalist on “Idol” and let’s face it, she’s a lock for the top 24 given how much time “American Idol” has given her to date. They gave her solo round performance of Adele‘s “Skyfall” front and center last Wednesday as a promo following “Empire.” She is one of the few “big” voices among the women and that should serve her well when live voting happens. Plus she is incredibly bubbly. “I knew we only had a minute, not even a full 90 seconds,” she said last week in a phone interview. “I needed a moment.” She hit her “glory note,” as she called it, at the end. “I wanted to let them know there’s more to me every time they see me,’ she said. One thing nobody watching knew is she was suffering from a throat infection and had no idea whether she’d be able to hit any notes, much less that big one. A medic was nearby and she sucked on a lozenge until just moments before she sang. (She slid the lozenge temporarily into her bra while she sang.) – Read more at AJC.com
Kelly Clarkson flashes her legs in pink lace mini-dress… as she admits scrutiny over her appearance ‘doesn’t concern’ her – ‘I don’t think that stops at our industry, I think that’s in general,’ Kelly said, of the criticism over women’s bodies in the music business. ‘And that’s because the female form – even back in the days – the statues were of us. We’re beautiful creatures. We’re held in high esteem and so with that comes scrutiny. ‘I don’t know, I’ve always been confident in my talent and what I love to do, it’s never really gotten me down. How I grew up, I’ve never been super concerned with [how I look].’ She went on: ‘I’m always just worried that I’ve gotta sound great. I get destroyed if I suck somewhere. It destroys me for like, a week. If I have a bad show and then you’re like ‘oh God, they think I sound like that regularly’. That’s when I really go down the rabbit hole.’ – Read more at The Daily Mail
Kelly Clarkson: ‘People usually turn down collaborations with me’ – The ‘Heartbeat Song’ singer told Nick Grimshaw on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show that she’s asked a lot of people, “but everyone usually says no”. “I honestly would collaborate with a lot of people, but everyone usually says no,” Clarkson said. “I’m not kidding you. I have legitimately asked several people who I’m not going to call out. And that’s cool, but I don’t know.” Clarkson did say she was happy that John Legend agreed to contribute to a track on her upcoming album. “I got John Legend to say yes, so that’s cool. I ask good people. I don’t want to sing with crap people, so I ask people who are great vocalists, but I’m not going to point out anyone. “I have asked several people, but sometimes I feel like I have the plague, or leprosy, they’re like, if I get too close… I don’t know.” – Read more at Digital Spy

Empire’s Jussie Smollett Discusses Jamal’s… Ex-Wife?! – Raven-Symone made her Empire debut as Olivia, a woman from Jamal’s (Jussie Smollett) past who claims that he is the father of her young daughter. But the Fox soap opera will one-up this Maury-worthy moment during on Wednesday by revealing that Olivia is also Jamal’s ex-wife! “They were indeed married,” Smollett tells TVGuide.com. “It was all just a sham of a wedding. It certainly wasn’t something that Jamal’s heart was completely in, but it was what he felt that he needed to do and another way that Lucious handled the puppeteering of Jamal early on in his life.” But while Jamal and Olivia were married, the burgeoning singer had no idea he had fathered a child with her – or did he? – Read more at TV Guide
Geraldo Rivera: Hip-Hop Is ‘Very Destructive Culturally’ – “Hip-hop has done more damage to black and brown people than racism in the last 10 years,” Rivera said. “When you find the youngster, a Puerto Rican from the South Bronx or a black kid from Harlem, who has succeeded in life other than being the one-tenth of one-tenth of one percent that make it in the music business, that’s been a success in life walking around with his pants around his ass or with visible tattoos.” – Read more at Rolling Stone
Ella Henderson on her platinum debut and leaping to America – What’s next after this album? If last year was crazy, this year’s even crazier. I’ve launched the album here in the states and I’ll be here for a while. When I get back home, I’m actually going to be writing again, because that’s what keeps me happy and keeps me positive. But I’ll be doing a tour back in the UK, supporting the Take That guys. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly
Pre-Hedwig, Darren Criss Looks Back on “Glee,” Chats Theatre and Recalls the Time He Was Fired – “The theatre community is a real, real thing. We all work together,” he said. “In film and TV, which I love, its inherency is… It’s an industry that’s built on a lot of separation — and I don’t mean that in a bad way — it’s just that things don’t need to be as familial. You have different departments that are separate. People are in rooms editing, people have things to do with shooting, people are in offices making decisions. In the theatre, everybody is really, really involved together, so if you get to [take part in] something like the Tonys, everybody who is nominated against each other — they all know each other, they all worked with each other… It’s a real family, for a lack of a better cliché.” – Read more at Playbill
