American Idol auditions showcase 600 area singers – There were lots of tears in Wright Park Friday but only a few were tears of joy. American Idol rolled into town looking for singers for the upcoming 12th season. The crew spent Thursday filming at various locations around town, getting local color for the show. They spent Thursday evening at Boot Hill, filming the gun fight, Miss Kitty and the can-can dancers. The stop in Dodge City is part of a ten-town jaunt called the “American Idol Small Town Audition Bus Tour.” – Read more at Dodge Globe

Jordin Sparks excited to host Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the U.S. Open – Jordin Sparks’ accomplishments are many: she was the then-youngest-ever winner of American Idol, has sold millions of albums, was nominated for a Grammy, and had her film debut in Sparkle,which opened last weekend. And on Saturday, after performing at the event in 2009, 22-year-old Sparks will return to co-host the 17th annual Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day Presented by Hess alongside TV personality Quddus. – Read more at EW.com

American Idol Winner Releases New Album – In 2009 singer Kris Allen was crowned the winner of season eight on American Idol. Kris released his debut self-titled CD in 2009 and produced the Top 20 hit Live Like We’re Dying. In May Kris released his sophomore CD “Thank You Camellia.”
Kris Allen agrees that his life has changed since his appearance on American Idol in 2009. “[Things have changed] In a good way,” said Allen. “I am able to make music for a living and I was not able to do that before so this is a nice change. I am gone a lot and I travel a lot which I love but it is also fun and I love getting out there and playing for the fans… I love the fact that I have fans, it is a good thing” – Read more at VOANews
