David Archuleta on writing in Nashville
“My mind has, like, this chronic brain cramp, ” says the 18-year-old singer, noted for the deer-in-the-headlights he got on American Idol whenever he had to speak instead of sing. “I’m never good with words. I’m never good at explaining things. So to write songs and tell stories and have a structured song has always been difficult for me, but it’s something I know I need to work on.”
While his fans were snatching up copies of Christmas From the Heart, David was already hard at work on his next album. David spent most of last in Nashville, where singer-songwriter Joy Williams, a co-writer of Waiting for Yesterday, helped him put together songwriting sessions. During his Nashville stay, David also worked with singer-songwriter Matt Wertz, Mat Kearney producer Robert Marvin and producer/songwriter/novelist Matt Bronleewe.

Adam Lambert’s first post-American Idol single, the grandiose and Aerosmithian 2012 power-ballad “Time For Miracles, ” has been blowing up all week long–first on some international iTunes sites, then as a leak on YouTube, and then (after its official American release date was quickly moved up from October 27 to October 20 to accommodate Glambert demand) on both U.S. Amazon and iTunes.
Adam Lambert Unveils Apocalyptic ‘Time for Miracles’ Video
Adam Lambert’s ‘Time for Miracles’ video wasn’t supposed to debut until it was featured in movie theaters prior to Michael Jackson’s This Is It starting October 28th, but since the song was prematurely released this past weekend, Lambert’s official MySpace video page unveiled the ‘Miracles’ clip early. Considering the single is from the upcoming disaster film 2012, Lambert scales back on the glam for the clip, opting to instead focus on the performance and his towering vocals.
Adam Lambert’s ‘Time for Miracles’ Video Premieres
While Adam Lambert is still in the studio completing his major-label debut, For Your Entertainment, out on November 23, his music video for “Time for Miracles” premiered on MySpace on Wednesday morning (October 21). The song, produced by Rob Cavallo, is for the apocalyptic flick “2012, ” which hits theaters on November 13.
In the video, Lambert dons his best Goth clothes and anguished face as he makes his way through disaster scene after disaster scene, as everyone else around flees falling buildings and debris raining down from a fiery sky. Despite the fact that the world is coming to an end around him, Lambert looks triumphantly straight into the camera and sings about not giving up on a lost love.
Anoop relishing the normalcy of home
CARRBORO — When Anoop Desai walked into a coffee shop recently, the other customers, immersed in books, conversations and their laptop computers, didn’t blink, ogle, stare or swoon.
Even after one photographer, then another began shooting his picture, still no one paid much attention. A few glanced over in mild curiosity, then went back to their work.
Desai, 22, who grew up in Chapel Hill, graduated from East Chapel Hill High School and UNC, and placed sixth on “American Idol, ” likes it that way.
While on the show and the summer Idol tour, he gained thousands of fans, many of them women, some of whom might faint dead away if he walked into a coffee shop where they were sitting.

People’s Choice Awards go Gaga!
Uh-oh. Adam Lambert and Kris Allen are clashing again ‘†worse, they’re in a diva smackdown with Lady Gaga! Has Hollywood no shame?
Correct answer: No, of course. But this time we can blame the rest of America, the ones who pick the People’s Choice Awards. Voting began today online to choose nominees who’ll compete for kudos to be bestowed next January and Lambert, Allen and Her Gaga-ness are among the choices for favorite breakout star.
What Do Adam Lambert and Details Have in Common?
Oh, look: metrosexual Bible Details landed America’s biggest gay pop star for a cover shoot. A very heterosexual cover shoot. (He sorta kisses a girl!!) No, Details doesn’t look gay at all.
Isn’t this just the problem with closeted Details in the first place? It’s always been so obviously gay, but at the same time it’s like your college roommate who would blast Liza Minnelli and then talk about how he loved fucking his girlfriend who lives in Canada. The mag’s closet mentality has even rubbed off on Lambert and they get him to say some really freaky things.
Adam Lambert Hooks Up with a Naked Girl in Details
No, straight girls, it’s not “Time for Miracles.” Adam Lambert didn’t wake up straight this morning. He’s just messing around with a naked lady in his steamy hetero (???) shoot for the November 2009 issue of Details magazine. In the Lambert-tastic issue, Adam discusses coming out, and getting depressed in 2006, after the end of his first relationship in 2006.

Shankman Will Direct Rock of Ages on Screen
Variety reports that Shankman will direct and choreograph the screen debut of Rock of Ages for New Line Cinema, which is scheduled to begin filming in summer 2010 in Los Angeles with an eye for a 2011 release from Warner Brothers. New Line Records released the Rock of Ages Broadway cast album last spring.
“I’m thinking big, and absolutely am going to attempt to cast with movie stars. Now that musicals are working again, actors are much more open to it, ” Shankman told Variety.
With new Oscar producers, academy makes a statement
In choosing former studio executive and producer Bill Mechanic and “Hairspray” director-choreographer Adam Shankman as co-producers of the 82nd annual Academy Awards, the academy is clearly carrying on what was started last year with the Laurence Mark-Bill Condon teaming.
In pairing Mechanic — a veteran exec and producer with wide-ranging relationships garnered from years of experience at studios like Fox (where he was chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment), Paramount and Disney — and Shankman, a creative producer, director and choreographer, the academy has essentially re-created the Condon-Mark dynamic and is clearly looking at that as the blueprint for future academy telecasts.
DWTS’ Derek Hough on Illness: “It Felt Like Horse Flu!”
Derek Hough made an appearance on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars — in the audience. As Maksim Chmerkovskiy stood in for Hough during a performance with Hough’s partner Joanna Krupa, Hough spoke to Usmagazine.com about the serious flu that forced him to sit out this week of competition. Although his symptoms were severe, doctors have concluded that Hough did not contract swine flu.
Dancing With the Stars’ results: Shock and awe
Nooo!!! In what was the first truly shocking elimination of the season, Olympic swimmer and personal favorite Natalie Coughlin was revealed to have the lowest total judges’ and viewers’ votes and was eliminated from the competition. And while her paso doble with partner Alec Mazo this week was not her strongest, one so-so dance performance certainly did not warrant this million-dollar mermaid’s premature exit from the season. I mean, come on ‘†as an Olympian, Natalie should have at least made it to the medal round! And I don’t know what’s worse: the fact that the much-decorated swimmer ‘†who, as Carrie Ann said, showed great amounts of flexibility, strength and grace ‘†was ousted so early in the program, or that she was ushered off with a blaringly tactless version of Fats Domino’s ‘Ain’t That a Shame.’ Oh, it hurts, America. It really hurts.

Cole set for singles chart record
X Factor judge Cheryl Cole’s first solo single is on course to become the year’s biggest-seller so far, the Official Charts Company (OCC) has said.
