David Archuleta on writing in Nashville

“My mind has, like, this chronic brain cramp, ” says the 18-year-old singer, noted for the deer-in-the-headlights he got on American Idol whenever he had to speak instead of sing. “I’m never good with words. I’m never good at explaining things. So to write songs and tell stories and have a structured song has always been difficult for me, but it’s something I know I need to work on.”

Adam Lambert Unveils Apocalyptic ‘Time for Miracles’ Video

Adam Lambert’s ‘Time for Miracles’ video wasn’t supposed to debut until it was featured in movie theaters prior to Michael Jackson’s This Is It starting October 28th, but since the song was prematurely released this past weekend, Lambert’s official MySpace video page unveiled the ‘Miracles’ clip early. Considering the single is from the upcoming disaster film 2012, Lambert scales back on the glam for the clip, opting to instead focus on the performance and his towering vocals.

Adam Lambert’s ‘Time for Miracles’ Video Premieres

While Adam Lambert is still in the studio completing his major-label debut, For Your Entertainment, out on November 23, his music video for “Time for Miracles” premiered on MySpace on Wednesday morning (October 21). The song, produced by Rob Cavallo, is for the apocalyptic flick “2012, ” which hits theaters on November 13.

In the video, Lambert dons his best Goth clothes and anguished face as he makes his way through disaster scene after disaster scene, as everyone else around flees falling buildings and debris raining down from a fiery sky. Despite the fact that the world is coming to an end around him, Lambert looks triumphantly straight into the camera and sings about not giving up on a lost love.

Anoop relishing the normalcy of home

CARRBORO — When Anoop Desai walked into a coffee shop recently, the other customers, immersed in books, conversations and their laptop computers, didn’t blink, ogle, stare or swoon.

Even after one photographer, then another began shooting his picture, still no one paid much attention. A few glanced over in mild curiosity, then went back to their work.

Desai, 22, who grew up in Chapel Hill, graduated from East Chapel Hill High School and UNC, and placed sixth on “American Idol, ” likes it that way.

While on the show and the summer Idol tour, he gained thousands of fans, many of them women, some of whom might faint dead away if he walked into a coffee shop where they were sitting.

What Do Adam Lambert and Details Have in Common?

Oh, look: metrosexual Bible Details landed America’s biggest gay pop star for a cover shoot. A very heterosexual cover shoot. (He sorta kisses a girl!!) No, Details doesn’t look gay at all.

Isn’t this just the problem with closeted Details in the first place? It’s always been so obviously gay, but at the same time it’s like your college roommate who would blast Liza Minnelli and then talk about how he loved fucking his girlfriend who lives in Canada. The mag’s closet mentality has even rubbed off on Lambert and they get him to say some really freaky things.

In choosing former studio executive and producer Bill Mechanic and “Hairspray” director-choreographer Adam Shankman as co-producers of the 82nd annual Academy Awards, the academy is clearly carrying on what was started last year with the Laurence Mark-Bill Condon teaming.

In pairing Mechanic — a veteran exec and producer with wide-ranging relationships garnered from years of experience at studios like Fox (where he was chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment), Paramount and Disney — and Shankman, a creative producer, director and choreographer, the academy has essentially re-created the Condon-Mark dynamic and is clearly looking at that as the blueprint for future academy telecasts.

I mean, come on ‘” as an Olympian, Natalie should have at least made it to the medal round! And I don’t know what’s worse: the fact that the much-decorated swimmer ‘” who, as Carrie Ann said, showed great amounts of flexibility, strength and grace ‘” was ousted so early in the program, or that she was ushered off with a blaringly tactless version of Fats Domino’s ‘Ain’t That a Shame.’ Oh, it hurts, America. 2. Archuleta’s CD is from the heart
    Grade: A-

A star was born during the seventh season of American Idol, when one of the youngest finalists in the show’s history took the stage. At 18 years old, former ‘Idol’ runner-up David Archuleta has already released his sophomore album, Christmas from the Heart.

To no one’s surprise, Archuleta’s holiday album, filled with heart-warming traditional tunes, has been soaring up the charts at an incredible pace. On the first day of release, Christmas from the Heart quickly reached the Top 10 on iTunes Top 200 albums, a particularly rare accomplishment for a Christmas album.

Where is Adam expected to land?

No Barbara Streisand? SuBo has all of England backing her too, so I’m not surprised.

  6. Where is Adam expected to land?

This is the first time I’ve ever seen the all-time Amazon pre-order list, and there are no numbers attached to those rankings. So, I believe someone would need a crystal ball to answer that question.

SuBo has all of England backing her too, so I’m not surprised.

Are those world-wide rankings? At first, I thought it was just Amazon US.

  7. Kris’s latest Tweet

You guys know what I miss…..the show Doug. So good. Oh btw……..done with the album!
about 7 hours ago from Echofon

So it’s confirmed by Kris that his album is done. Does that mean done done, or just that he’s done. Because he already confirmed in an interview late last week that he was done with his part of the album. So does this mean track listing soon? hmmmm.

  8. 10. Clay Aiken, ‘A Thousand Different Ways’ (2006)

HUH? This is really weird because I followed Clay then and I don’t remember that particular CD blowing up on Amazon. His debut CD shot to #1 and stayed there like, forever but not that one. Weird. Holy shit at DC! I wonder how many pre-orders he racked up by the time the album came out. I don’t get the Susan Boyle thing. Especially after seeing the tracklist..I guess a lot of people love cover songs.

Re: Archie’s Xmas CD. I’ve had the worst time finding it around and checked several stores since last week so I finally just ordered it from Amazon. Good for him that its selling out but could Jive actually ship some more?

  9. SuBo has all of England backing her too, so I’m not surprised.

Are those world-wide rankings? At first, I thought it was just Amazon US.

Well it does say it’s from Amazon’s Music Store, not just US, it used to roll up into one with that, not sure these days.

  10. This Amazon list pretty much says that Amazon preorders are just a drop in the bucket of total sales. I do recall that Clay’s ATDW was beating Alicia Keys release (in preorders) at around the same time, and we all know how that turned out. Also the length of time a cd is available for preorder should be put into consideration as well. Subo, Clay, and Cookie’s were on there a while, so this list doesn’t really tell you a whole lot.

  11. I laughed when I saw how casually Kris threw in the news about his album in his tweet about missing a 90’s cartoon!

I’ve read elsewhere reports from people who have inquired at stores (Target/walmart) about the availability and the stores say that they are only getting a few in at a time–5 or 6 copies. There must be some marketing scheme there, but I don’t understand it. (And I got an A in marketing.) Maybe its a slow roll out b/c Christmas is 10 weeks away??

I see the logic of promoting the album harder immediately after Thanksgiving but what’s the logic of rationing the distribution? Jive doesn’t want to print and ship more than will be sold? Maybe Archie would have sold more than $16K this week if there’s been more in the stores??

SuBo storm isn’t looking like smoke and mirrors. This will be interesting. If SuBo beats Adam? She’s the anti-Adam. Heh. Just heh.

  16. Regarding the David Cook pre-orders- mine got bumped regularly because monthly reconfirm notices went into my spam folder.
I had to re-pre-order the damn thing like four times.
Wonder how many other people that happened to?
    And did each time count?

The longer a title is available on pre-order the more times this happens, as pre-orders expire after 30 days unless you go back and say “yes I still want it dammit”. Or they did last year, anyway.

  17. Suzanne, I don’t know either. I went to several stores in Houston this past Saturday and was told they would have to special order it or it wasn’t in stock. And it’s not like Houston is some backwater and I went to stores that shouldn’t have it. The only explanation I can come up with is Jive’s infamous frugality. I ended up downloading it, but I wanted a physical copy.

Jim. C is actually very funny. Thanks girlygirl for the post. I’m sneaking on and off here.. too much work to do..

  21. This is the first time I’ve ever seen the all-time Amazon pre-order list, and there are no numbers attached to those rankings. So, I believe someone would need a crystal ball to answer that question.

I do think, though, that, when you look at the dates on those top sellers, this may mean more about a certain, probably slightly older, population’s music-buying habits changing than about anything else.

Maybe that album-buyers (rather than the generally younger mp3 and singles buyers) are becoming more Internet surf-y, looking for their faves’ stuff before it actually comes up for sale, and also buying online for *all* their purchases more than in the past rather than just pre-ordering some special album they are attached to, like Clay’s, maybe thinking that it could be harder to find their faves’ stuff in a nearby store immediately?

Not sure why I think this, but I guess it’s these entries that suggest it to me: Susan Boyle, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ (2009); U2, ‘No Line on the Horizon’ (2009); Coldplay, ‘Viva La Vida’ (2008); Diana Krall, ‘Quiet Nights’ (2009)

  22. I don’t think Amazon would count confirmation pre-orders in this ranking. Heh. But even *if* you want to say that it was from existing customers that re-ordered, then wouldnt’ that also apply to all the other artists? So again, based on this flawed assumption (which has not ever been supported by WallStreet because Amazon is actually known for its robust CRM and database measurement, by the way) Susan Boyle still sold the most ever in Amazon’s history. Again, stunning for SuBo.

  23. Regarding the David Cook pre-orders- mine got bumped regularly because monthly reconfirm notices went into my spam folder.
I had to re-pre-order the damn thing like four times.
Wonder how many other people that happened to?
    And did each time count?

Happened to me as well. Really annoyed me — but I guess stores know that sometimes when people can’t get something at a certain time they don’t want it at all or will go to another outlet…. And Amazon won’t make what would be a very reasonable but too subtle distinction between ordinary purchases and AI albums! … I kept thinking, As if I wouldn’t want Cook’s album any more!

  24. HaHa- Looks like Adam’s Details spread is getting the stir and controversy they wanted judging by the news and comments.
BTW- Adam’s TFM has cracked iTunes top 10 and is ahead of John Mayer. Guess I’ll have to put away the black outfit I was going to wear to Adam’s career’s funeral for the time being.

  25. I’ve seen some people tweeting Kris about him not @ replying Adam about TFM. I figure he just congratulates Adam privately…and lets his family handle the public support? LOL

  31. Buderschnookie (did I spell that right?), I’m pretty sure that your preorder would only count once.

Poporange, you probably already know this, but the stats you cited were a current snapshot, while the ones in the article were cumulative. I am not sure on that basis that it answers the question whether the article was citing U.S. numbers or not.

Someone’s preorders going up closer to the release date would have to rank consistently higher in order to make up for the shorter time frame until release. Obviously, a highly popular musician with a highly anticipated release could overcome the lead based on time. Time gives some advantage, but without numbers, it’s hard to say. I am not sure when the cutoff date was for these ranks, but at least for Amazon, we can say that SuBo was outselling Glambert as of that point in time.

  32. Love MTV’s review of TfM’s video, but…yeah,, he’s gay. He can’t play straight (hetero) in a photo shoot? Next thing you know, straight people can’t play gay in a photo shoot. Oh, wait…

I hope he sings! But I’m worried, I think he said he said this was something he was doing without the band. He always brings Neal for acoustic…

Kellie Pickler just did one of these too.

Ooh, what did she do on it? Did she sing? I’m thinking DC won’t, based on the info thus far.

  38. Kris had two radio interviews this morning — one with 103.7 FM in San Diego and one with 94.7 FM in Austin, TX. Hopefully those will be posted on the stations’ sites later today.

He also has an interview with 96.9 WinkFM in Fort Myers, FL scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.

  39. @kokomotribune: Recording artist David Cook will be in Miami County to help Extreme Makeover rebuild the Cowan-Brown’s family home.

I have a coal, black heart wrapped in ice. I cannot stand that show. It makes me extremely uncomfortable. I have to change the channel when it is on.

Sorry Cookie. I may be sitting this one out and looking for just your appearance on the show on utubey.

  41. Extreme Makeover? Does that mean he’ll be painting and decorating? I’ve never seen it, but damn it I’ll have to watch, if only to see what he’s doing. I’m sure it’ll be available on the net somewhere.

The news that Susan Boyle is the biggest pre-order on Amazon is absolutely hilarious. I’m sure her main fanbase actually is in the US. When she came over for that other talent show she drew a huge crowd and You tube viewings of her on Britain’s Got Talent were enormous – and that’s got to be mainly outside the UK viewers.

    Bizarre!

Of course, on the other hand, I’m pleased to see DC there at eight, if slightly concerned to see Clay Aiken as the only other AIer to share the honour.

I pre-ordered via Amazon.com pretty much straight after AI7, but then just gave up when they asked me to confirm. I pre-ordered again much, much later from Amazon.uk and the was forced – forced I tell you – to download a copy from Play.com when it didn’t arrive for about 4 weeks. The perils of fanwanking from overseas!… lol

  42. Hey, U2, and Coldplay, and Dixie Chicks, I’m real happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but SuBo had the largest Amazon preorder of all time. ALL TIME!

Damn you, smallie. You just made Bono cry. That’s like kicking a puppy. Wearing sunglasses.

Bwahhahahahahaha…..that Kanye bit never gets old. Well, at least it hasn’t yet. Good one, smallie.

Awwwww, Cookie helping a sick little girl. Good on him.

  43. I’ve seen some people tweeting Kris about him not @ replying Adam about TFM. I figure he just congratulates Adam privately’ ¦and lets his family handle the public support? LOL

Well some people also were upset that Adam’s family wasn’t Tweeting their support of Kris like Kris’s did of Adam. Of course slight problem with that, Adam family doesn’t seem to use Twitter. Neil recently got into a twist about an imposter using his old Twitter name. Oh fanbases, how funny they all are.

But yes, cute Tweets by the Allen family to Adam.

  44. I have a coal, black heart wrapped in ice. I cannot stand that show. It makes me extremely uncomfortable. I have to change the channel when it is on.

LOL. I never watch the show either, but I’ll happily set my DVR. Is he going to be in one episode or the whole series? (Is it a series???)

  45. In other news, I’m kind of appalled by this news. SuBo, really?

I’m not kind of appalled, I’m really appalled and remaining confounded.

  46. Sorry Cookie. I may be sitting this one out and looking for just your appearance on the show on utubey.

I’m glad he’s doing something for a good cause but did he have to do it by going on another cheesy reality show? I wish I could blame RCA but I have a feeling that this one has nothing to do with them. Sigh.

  47. I pre-ordered via Amazon.com pretty much straight after AI7, but then just gave up when they asked me to confirm. I pre-ordered again much, much later from Amazon.uk and the was forced ‘“ forced I tell you ‘“ to download a copy from Play.com when it didn’t arrive for about 4 weeks. The perils of fanwanking from overseas!’ ¦ lol

Yes, Amazon pre-orders are so weird. They put Cook’s pre-order up right after S7 and basically asked you whether you were still as in love with him as ever every. single. month. until November, what with the constant emails to confirm that you still wanted to buy the damned album. It was getting kind of embarrassing answering such a personal question online. My husband was like, how many of these did you order? Only one sweetie, but Amazon apparently can’t stop embarrassing me with the constant questions of “how low have you come that you are willing to buy an album sound unheard?.” Yet, I still hit confirm every single time. Damn you Amazon.

I don’t watch that show except the couple times I’ve stumbled on it. Cuz dude, it’s SO SAD. I can’t handle it on a regular basis. The show is a series, but when celebs help out, it’s just for one episode.

Quick question- the family’s in Indiana. Wonder if it’s near where Adam’s family lives? Cuz that would be a nice bonus for DC, to get to hang out with his nieces and nephews while he’s out there.

  49. Ooh, what did she do on it? Did she sing? I’m thinking DC won’t, based on the info thus far.

I think he might sing. All the celebrity volunteers that were singers did sing from what I remember. Off the top of my head I know the Jonas Bros, Gavin Rossdale and Miley Cyrus did. Kellie’s didn’t air yet but I heard she did perform.

  50. I don’t know why people are suprised by that Amazon list. I said it yesterday and I will say it again: The only people who buy MUSIC off of Amazon are AI fans and old farts.

Itunes is for the under 25 crowd ( and a few of us hipper old farts).

Where is Babs on Itunes? She sold so many on Amazon yet she was nowhere to be found on Itunes.

  51. I’m glad he’s doing something for a good cause but did he have to do it by going on another cheesy reality show? I wish I could blame RCA but I have a feeling that this one has nothing to do with them. Sigh.

When I used to watch this show, the singer/artist who would show up was usually the favorite of the ill child in the family, so he may have been asked. (Ugh. I like what they do for these families, but the manipulative OTT we-are-making-sure-you-have-no-choice-but-to-cry-for-these-poor-needy-souls moments make me cringe and break out in hives.)

  52. Isn’t DC’s grandma (or some relative) in Kokomo? There may have been a cancer/family connection there.

And thanks for the series info!

  53. I’m glad he’s doing something for a good cause but did he have to do it by going on another cheesy reality show? I wish I could blame RCA but I have a feeling that this one has nothing to do with them. Sigh.

He was probably asked do it. I’m sure he wouldn’t say “No, sorry I won’t do it, you’re a cheesy show”.
    A cancer story and a family from Indiana, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

  54. So are you not allowed to buy from both I tunes and Amazon???

I must be the old fartiest of old farts – even though I’m only 38, which is not under 25 I know – because I still prefer to buy real CDs from real shops. Yes – I like to go to record shops and look through the racks.

    I go to bookshops too!

But I do buy from Amazon and/or Itunes, either because the mood takes me or because I can’t get what I want any other way…

ETA I think Boyle’salbum is going to be huge, I really do.

It most certainly is not to my taste and I won’t be buying it, but previous albums in this style have been huge and all pre-sale indicators are very positive. Add to that that a lot of people, world wide, simply know who she is…

There must just be a lot of old farts out there buying albums. The weirdest thing is that yesterday, I was watching the local news and they were talking about this incredibly dull and bland Irish crooner called Daniel O’Donnell, who apparently has had an album in the UK charts every year since 1988 and has just sold out a huge arena in Birmingham UK. There must be a lot of old farts buying music over here too – just not music you would ever in a million years hear in the singles charts!

  55. And Extreme Makeover is cheesy reality show that is up against Sunday Night Football. Nobody is going to pay any attention to it unless they’re fans of the show, so I don’t see a downside for David. He may pick up a few new fans and it just reinforces his reputation as a down-to-earth guy with a big (analog) heart who happened to win a singing competition.

I really admire David for not taking himself too seriously. I also think he may just want to do it to make a kid happy. I see it as win-win.

  56. He was probably asked do it. I’m sure he wouldn’t say ‘No, sorry I won’t do it, you’re a cheesy show’ .

Ha, exactly. And sure it’s a “reality show”, but not all reality shows are created equal. It may be cheesy for some, but at least it’s doing something good. I’m just be glad he’s not showing up on the likes of I Love New York or Tool Academy or something haha.

  57. Yeah I think he was asked too. When celebrities do this they dont just choose random celebrities either. I wouldnt be shocked if the family or the child with cancer is a fan. Especially with the cancer connection, no way would he say no.

  58. Every women over the age of 40 is going to get a SuBo CD for Christmas from some poor idiot who thinks that is the kind of music that a “granny” (however young) listens to. And I would bet (like many CDs I have received in the past) it will be placed (unopened) with the torn wrappings and shredded ribbon and taken out to the dumpster.

This SuBo phenomenon has absolutely nothing to do with her voice, her performance, or the viability of the recording. It has everything to do with the absurd social conscience that to “dream a dream” is the emotional stuff that older women love and cherish.

God, how I hate being older in this damn repressive and folklorian country, sometimes. I think there would be a hell of a lot of people surprised to see how us old grannies can still tie one on, do our jeagar shots with a beer chaser, sing every word of the latest Black Eyed Peas hit as well as Led Zepplin, and that we are still pretty damn good in the sack. Stereotypes…how I hate them.

  59. http://www.vh1.com/artists/charts/top_tours.jhtml

Vh-1: Top Tours (don’t know their criteria, sales probably?)

    1 Britney Spears
    2 Miley Cyrus
    3 Eminem
    4 Nickelback
    5 Taylor Swift
    6 Kelly Clarkson
    7 Kings Of Leon
    8 David Cook
    9 Green Day
    10 Black Eyed Peas
    11 Pearl Jam
    12 Bret Michaels
    13 Maxwell
    14 Rob Thomas
    15 Ace Frehley
    16 AC/DC
    17 Kiss
    18 Creed
    19 Method Man
    20 U2

David Cook’s showing up on a lot of charts, I’m proud of him :)

  60. And sure it’s a ‘reality show’ , but not all reality shows are created equal.

Yes. This isn’t really a reality show anyway. It’s more like a cross between “This Old House” and “Queen for the Day”. Mixing the best of home-reno with “Fantasy Island” (without the creep factor). It’s not like “Rock of Love” or anything. It’s a good gig.

I will say, though, that those houses they build seem freakish a lot of the time. You’ve got a bunch of normal looking middle-class homes on the block then they stuff some mega-mansion in the mix with a fountain in the front yard. I’ve only seen it like twice, and in one of them, they put like 7 flat panel TVs in the kitchen. That’s just crazy. I’d rip them out and sell them for cash to pay the heating bill.

  61. I wonder why on the top 20 itunes ranking it shows TfM is releasing Oct. 23?

  62. I don’t get the disaparagement of Amazon as a shopping source, or the stereotyping of itunes being for youngsters. I shop at both, period. I shop anywhere that has good products and delivers in a way that works for me. If songs are cheaper on amazon than itunes I will buy them on amazon and they end up in my itunes library. I don’t pay more just so I can be “cool” and shop in the “cool” place LOL.

Amazon is not as important as itunes for predicting overall sales, I daresay, but that’s not to disparage it. Amazon is primarily for selling books, that’s its speciality and what it’s known for, while itunes is primarily for music. I buy a lot of books on amazon, and don’t think there’s anything “old farty” about it. It’s just a damn good place to buy books.

  63. Is the Extreme Makeover Home Edition episode the thing David was taping that would air in January?

  64. I think Cook’s being on Extreme Makeover is fine. I wouldn’t think there would even be a question of it not. I mean beyond people who don’t like the show. I’ve never watched an episode myself, but than I don’t really watch a lot of TV. But I don’t think this ruins his cred. Not any more than being on a cheesy xmas special with a country star doing corny skits would. Which to be clear, I also think is fine and that no doubt David will excel in.

  65. I’d rip them out and sell them for cash to pay the heating bill.

Oh, Kirsten, I’m sure it’s been done. Why do they give them houses they can’t afford to maintain? If they could afford it, their houses wouldn’t be in the condition they are to start out. I’m sure the beautiful stainless refrigerator with the water and ice in the door that talks to you when the door isn’t shut is seen on eBay soon.

  66. I wouldn’t be shocked if the family or the child with cancer is a fan. Especially with the cancer connection, no way would he say no.

He was probably asked do it. I’m sure he wouldn’t say ‘No, sorry I won’t do it, you’re a cheesy show’ .

I’m sure you are both right. Despite my dislike for all most reality shows, I probably would have never uttered an objectionable word had I not heard about a January “surprise” .

I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. (Didn’t Madonna and U2 blow everyone out of the water?)

Look at their Top Artists list!

    http://www.vh1.com/artists/charts/top_artists.jhtml

    1 Adam Lambert
    2 Beyonc
    3 Lady Gaga
    4 Lil Wayne
    5 Michael Jackson
    6 Jennifer Lopez
    7 Rihanna
    8 Leona Lewis
    9 Britney Spears
    10 Mariah Carey

    I feel like I flashed forward to 2010! :)

  68. Oh Adam, love you so much. You sing so beautifully and magnificently. TfM stirs so much emotion in me that it makes me weep. You look so hot in that video and according to my magic crystal ball, (not Magic 8Ball who has nothing on my crystal ball) you’ll reach unprecendeted heights never before seen in the music industry.

  69. Tess – I reckon ‘old fart’is a state of mind, not an age – and it’s an unfortunately dismissive term, even though it’s really tempting short hand sometimes when attempting to be cynical.

Truth be told, there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking either Susan Boyle or Daniell O’ Donnell and liking either one of them does not preclude someone from liking different styles of music too.

However, I’m not far off 40 and if anyone bought me a Susan Boyle album for Christmas, I’d be pretty pissed off lol.

That said, I actually think that she does, genuinely, have a large base of fans who want to hear her music. The Youtube hits and crowds were not manufactured from people tying their grannies in front of the computer screen or force marching them to America’s Got Talent…

  70. I’m not sure, but I don’t think so.
Look at their Top Artists list!

Ah yes, I get your point! Def a narrow view of who the top artists are, overall. Def not my list, and def not based on sales (since Taylor Swift isn’t there, for one thing). What the heck do they base these charts on I wonder?

David Cook on Extreme Makeover: I never saw the show and have no opinion about it, but if that’s the January surprise, yeah I’m a tad disappointed as I was hoping for something more exciting. But it’s always good to see him on tv and he has pretty good instincts about what he does.

  71. you’ll reach unprecendeted heights never before seen in the music industry.

Yikes, not putting any pressure on him right? LOL.

  72. I think the criteria for the tour list on VH1 is percentage of tickets sold. That’s why Cook appears high on the list at 8 – his sale rate is an average of about 90% I believe.

U2’s concerts – and those of the majority of the other artists on the list for that matter – must have many, many times the number of tickets available of course, so the statistics are totally skewed.

But it’s still good to see Cook up there – and I think he’s been higher on various other tour charts, with similar criteria in the past.

For someone who is far, far less well known and just starting out, to sell 90% in his first year of proper touring, even in much smaller venues, is great.

And it’s certainly good publicity and builds a good vibe.

Hopefully, next year’s album will build even more strongly, the venues will get bigger and the tours will keep going on and on and on…

But I think he’s going to need a stronger single next time out, if I’m being honest.

  73. Daniel O’Donnell, who apparently has had an album in the UK charts every year since 1988 and has just sold out a huge arena in Birmingham UK. There must be a lot of old farts buying music over here too ‘“

Sounds like old fartism is a worldwide phenomenom!!! Oh no!!! LOL.

But what about old farts who buy modern hip music? Are we some weird sub species????

and then you have your young farts too, since fartism knows no age barriers.

  74. “David Cook showing on a lot of charts, I’m proud of him”. What charts???? LOL

  75. DavidArchie: Went Christmas caroling around the MTV offices with @JambaJim. Interesting doing that in October… Haha. But it was fun!

  76. U2’s concerts ‘“ and those of the majority of the other artists on the list for that matter ‘“ must have many, many times the number of tickets available of course, so the statistics are totally skewed.

But but but – if percentages are used, then large arenas wouldn’t matter right?

Percentage of what – of available seats? So 90% is 90%, whether there are 2,000 seats or 20,000, so it doesn’t seem so skewed that way.

  77. Jason Castro will perform at WNCI’s JingleBall Tuesday, December 8th at the LifeStyle Pavillion in Columbus, Ohio.

Sounds like a good line-up with The Fray and The Ting Tings.

  78. ‘David Cook showing on a lot of charts, I’m proud of him’ . What charts???? LOL

The charts that have been mentioned lately on this blog, go back and look if you’re interested. I saw two this morning, year-end charts are starting up on blogs etc., he did pretty well last year and is on some charts, that’s all.

  79. fadetowhite — this was a fartastic conversation! LOL

In other news, Jason Castro was at a Mall right by my house yesterday, but he didn’t tweet about it far enough in advance! Silly boy, he better give us more notice.

  80. you’ll reach unprecendeted heights never before seen in the music industry

With expectations like that I sure hope he manages to sell more albums than Michael Jackson sold in his lifetime.

  81. DavidArchie: Went Christmas caroling around the MTV offices with @JambaJim. Interesting doing that in October’ ¦ Haha. But it was fun!

Not a fan of his music, but Archie seems almost too presh to be true. Thanks for sharing these Tweets, should be fun to see the MTV segment with Jim C.

  82. Just when I think I can’t love Cookie any more than I do, he does something like Home Makeover.

  83. Wtf with SuBo? She is doing covers and she has set a record. I don’t get her appeal. Nice voice on one song the rest suck.

  84. With expectations like that I sure hope he manages to sell more albums than Michael Jackson sold in his lifetime.

Yes he only has to outsell the Beatles, Elvis, and MJ, in order not to disappoint expectations, I’m sure he can easily do it, lol. Poor Adam.

  85. Kris’s sales numbers for last week are up:

Kris Allen, Live Like We’re Dying (10,000, -26 percent, 63,000)

  86. David Cook’s showing up on a lot of charts, I’m proud of him

Oceana, I loved so much his show last month. I’m very glad he’s doing so well. He’s my newest addiditon to my fav artist list and I’ll go see his next show for sure

  87. But I think he’s going to need a stronger single next time out, if I’m being honest.

And he’s got them, if the label will release them. Arrr.

I heard at DCO that Kellie Pickler did one of these shows too (Extreme Makeover Home Edition) and there’s a rumor that she performed a song at the unveiling of the home, so maybe DC will perform too.

It’s apparently a new show (this home edition) on ABC. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  88. I will say, though, that those houses they build seem freakish a lot of the time.

The show came to our little town last fall to rebuild a house for a severely handicapped little boy. It was a huge deal around here, but I must say the house looked much grander on tv than it does in RL. It’s newer and much nicer looking than the surrounding homes, but it’s not large and fits in pretty well.

I’ve not watched the show much, but I never thought of it as a reality show, or particularly cheesy. Emotionally manipulative, yeah. Not getting the disappointment for Cookie’s “surprise”. It’s so him, to use his vacation from touring to do something like this. I love that his giddyness about his surprise isn’t about promo for him, but about helping out a cancer-stricken family. Good for him.

  89. Ok, I dunno about the rest, but this part of the list is wack

    18 Creed
    19 Method Man
    20 U2

WTF? U2 has been killing it in tour sales across the US in football stadiums. Last I heard Creed was underselling tour tickets, which I was kinda glad to hear. Sorry, a little bit of schadenfreude I admit but I hate Creed.

The only people who buy MUSIC off of Amazon are AI fans and old farts.

Heh, for some reason, this reminds me of a joke Jimmy Fallon made in his monologue about Clay’s new label. Ooh, I googled and found the joke: “Clay Aiken just signed a record deal with Decca Records — the same label that represents Sting, Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli. Apparently Decca is Latin for ‘your mom’s iPod.'” Hee. Kinda true.

  90. i asked about that Vh1 list yesterday but nobody seemed to know how the rankings are done…still, yay for Adam! He looks good atop that list

  91. Carly and Archie on a date?

CarlySmithson: @DavidArchie Just got ur text . Ill see u then . Dinner and a movie for sure . Sorry I missed u yesterday
    10 minutes ago from web

  92. Not a fan of his music, but Archie seems almost too presh to be true. Thanks for sharing these Tweets, should be fun to see the MTV segment with Jim C.

LOL I just saw this tweet, I thought it was funny!
theswellers: Did an interview with MTV Radio, Adam Lambert was singing in the next room doing a Christmas Carol. Life is not real.

  93. “Carly and Archie on a date?” – ha, ha. Carly’s married and Archie, is well, Archie. They’re obvs good friends.

Interesting that the “Home Makeover” that Cookie’s involved with is in Indiana. That’s where his brother Adam lived, he has other family there, has spent a lot of time in the state. Love Cookie so much I’ll even watched that manipulative show for him.

  94. Kris’s sales numbers for last week are up:

Kris Allen, Live Like We’re Dying (10,000, -26 percent, 63,000)

Do we know how many of his iTunes passes were sold? Because folks who bought that got the single added last week, so they won’t factor into the singles charts. But, regardless, his numbers look pretty bad, don’t they? (Although, given how little marketing the single seems to have received, I can’t say I’m all that suprised. I guess Kris can cross his fingers and hope for “Tattoo II.” )

  95. CarlySmithson: @DavidArchie Just got ur text . Ill see u then . Dinner and a movie for sure . Sorry I missed u yesterday
    10 minutes ago from web

Wouldn’t it have been easier for her to text back rather than tweet? I think someone is looking for some publicity.

  96. Well I watch a lot of shows to see singers I like, it’s the only time I record Regis & Kelly, it’s the only time I watched TRL, and I even sat through that horrible show Spongebob Squarepants to see Clay on it, that was the worst. The things we do for these Idols, lol. At least this show has redeeming value, it helps people. (ETA and even that is apparently debatable)

But, regardless, his (Kris) numbers look pretty bad, don’t they? (Although, given how little marketing the single seems to have received, I can’t say I’m all that suprised.

Someone said they don’t do tv promotion until closer to the cd drop, that makes a kind of sense, but I seem to recall previous Idol singles dropping to loud fanfare, and being trumpeted as #1 on the singles charts and all that jazz. Maybe times have just changed? I can’t even remember what happened last year with DC’s Light On or Archie’s Crush, can’t remember the sales numbers or the amount of promotion they received initially.

  97. Do we know how many of his iTunes passes were sold? Because folks who bought that got the single added last week, so they won’t factor into the singles charts. But, regardless, his numbers look pretty bad, don’t they?

Terrible. I don’t get Jive Records at all. They release the single for download but they don’t put it up for adds for three weeks, after the momentum has died. And then they make a video that won’t be released for another month. Insane. Kris’s song needed the radio play when it was released, three weeks ago.

Oh and then Jive releases David Archuleta’s holiday album but issues very few copies to stores. (A lot of people are reporting that the stores must special order it for people.)

    Isn’t the point to sell?

  98. DavidArchie: Went Christmas caroling around the MTV offices with @JambaJim. Interesting doing that in October’ ¦ Haha. But it was fun!
    34 minutes ago from txt

LOL. That is so cute – can just picture that one. Archie really is the cutest thing ever.

  99. Erg…I can’t stand Extreme Home Makeover. Having said that, it will be cool for David to be on the show.

Kristan – I will say, though, that those houses they build seem freakish a lot of the time.

I agree. I think what’s been worse is the people who have had these houses built for them and lost them during the foreclosure process. I’ve read numerous stories of this happening because the gifted families got mortgages on the homes, not through any fault of the show. They just got behind on bills, I wonder if the show even thinks about the future maintenance and utility costs of these over-the-top houses they give them.

  100. Oceana – I love Cook, I really do. I have to work very hard to keep my fantardism under control and try to view him and his doings with an unbiased eye.

I don’t think he gets anywhere near enough credit in the media for the great year he’s had! Probably because he just doesn’t seem interested in chasing fame – which I wholeheartedly appreciate.

And that makes it just about the music and the shows, which I also wholeheartedly appreciate.

Now I love Cook’s music. I love Axium; I love AH and I love most of DCTR (minus CBTM and LO!).

However, I do think that DCTR was lacking in a break out single. I reckon that there were quite a few songs that were much, much better than the ones that were released. But, I honestly don’t think that there were any with the kinds of strong beats that allow rock type bands like DCTA to break through in the charts.

I’d love to see DCTR mark 2 contain it’s version of Boulevard of Broken Dreams or Use Somebody, because it’s that, combined with an album skewed more towards his rock side, whilst allowing some strong ballads their place, that I think is needed to fully lift him beyond AI.

I think he’s getting there: growing his fanbase slowly, but surely. And I’m fine with him wherever he lands, huge star or indie singer-songwriter, so long as I can get hold of his music.

But if he wants to do what he says he wants to do and be a big force in the music industry, then IMO, he needs the kind of rock single that grips you with its first sound and doesn’t let you go and I don’t think he’s got it yet.

  101. (Although, given how little marketing the single seems to have received, I can’t say I’m all that suprised. I guess Kris can cross his fingers and hope for ‘Tattoo II.’ )

Has Kris gotten any less marketing that the other Idols who released singles? I’ve read that David Cook and David Archuleta got primarily the same amount of promo for their singles as Kris got. Premiering the single on one of the top radio stations in the country, radio interviews promoting the single including on Seacrest’s show that’s syndicated across the country, and performances at radio station sponsored events. He’s also been featured at Entertainment Weekly and MTV numerous times regarding his single. It’ also been reviewed in major publications including EW, Rolling Stone and USA Today. Did the Davids get more than that? I didn’t follow Season 7 after the show, just bought my Cook CD when it came out. I have to say, much less angst doing it that way..lol.

  102. I don’t know that an album of cover songs so bad. I’d be first in line if it had this and this not to mention this and a few others. Hee.

  103. It’s apparently a new show (this home edition) on ABC. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition has been around for years.

And RE: all the comments about DC helping a child with cancer, if you read the articles, the girl Kori, whose family is being helped, has a blood disorder, not cancer. However, she met and befriended a little girl at the blood clinic who has cancer, and ended up raising over $35,000 for ACS in the girl’s honor. The show may be manipulative, etc., but Kori seems like a pretty special kid.

  104. Question – Will David Cook release another single?? I know on GMA he said he was getting ready to start another record, how long does that take usually?? Will he keep touring while doing the new record? It just seems like such a long time since Come Back to Me. Even though, my station KPEK in Albuquerque plays it all the time since he did the concert here.

  105. Wouldn’t it have been easier for her to text back rather than tweet? I think someone is looking for some publicity.

Considering he’s not even following her yes, I guess she’s looking for something. But then again, that’s what twitter is all about.

  106. 18 Creed
    19 Method Man
    20 U2

WTF? U2 has been killing it in tour sales across the US in football stadiums.

Creed sucks and WOW! Method Man is doing better than U2, that is a surprise.

  107. I think it’s ok for Carly to want the twitterverse to know. I’d be excited to have dinner with him…and I don’t much like his music. He’s awesome though.

  108. LOL, hello to Kristan, whoever she is.

LLWD is working its way up the Top 40 & HAC charts in workmanlike fashion. It shouldn’t be a surprise the sales were low – it languished in the 130-149 ranks on iTunes most of the sales period. I expect it will start selling better within a couple of weeks, just in time for the CD promotion.

Yeah I have to agree this. Unless she sent the text to the wrong number by mistake.

  110. leome that adam mistaken for david singing xmas songs tweet is hilarious!

  111. Oceana – it’s always good to find your twin!

CindyM – if I remember it straight, Cook’s single did not get a big radio premiere at all: certainly not anything like Archie’s Crush on Z100.

It was also hampered by the fact that Cook’s fans were pretty p’d off by the choice!

I reckon it did pretty well all things considered – and it did get quite a few other good promotional opportunities on TV.

I just think that both Archie and Cook had much stronger music buying Idol fans than Allen. I’ve seen the argument about sales on Itunes pre-finale being strong for AI8 and therefore lowering Itunes sales post-finale, but they totally ignore the facts that Cook in particular – but Archie too – sold very well on Itunes during the AI7season (the Itunes positions leaked frequently and I have a funny feeling that Billie Jean got to 1???) and Cook still blew everything away after the finale.

Now, long term, that doesn’t really mean anything at all. In truth, I think that Lambert, in particular, could very well eclipse Cook’s sales this year, because he is putting out an album in a far more current genre and has hugely positive press and publicity (even more so than Cook, who did very well for publicity last year).

But it does say something about the strength of the initial fanbase and their willingness to buy anything and everything.

Archie has one of the strongest, most dedicated fanbases out there: that’s what drove his initial sales.

    Ditto Cook.

Allen, long term, may very well build a wider fanbase, but – at this stage at least – it doesn’t look as though votes are translating into sales.

  112. CindyM, no one is certain whether David will release another single from this album. Speculation is that it grows less likely by the day, though it would not be impossible. He has already written 4 or 5 songs for the next album and says he’ll be in the studio in February, expecting to debut a new album in the summer. That can always change, but is the latest he’s said.

  113. But, regardless, his numbers look pretty bad, don’t they?

For an Idol, they suck. He’s going to have to follow the Jordin game plan and get him some new fans. LOL.

Let’s take it to the numbers thread, though, since this isn’t a headline (and I want more hits).

  114. Thanks guys for the answers! Like I said, I’m new to this whole experience this year!

  115. But I think he’s going to need a stronger single next time out, if I’m being honest.

He’s going to need 19E and RCA to get out of his way and let him release his own music. Let him pick the single since I don’t believe he had a say over his singles the first time out.

It’s apparently a new show (this home edition) on ABC. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Definitely not a new show. I think they’ve built a home in every state in the union — and more.

  116. I don’t know why people are suprised by that Amazon list. I said it yesterday and I will say it again: The only people who buy MUSIC off of Amazon are AI fans and old farts.

And people with really good sound systems who want better quality downloads and/or hard media. All MP3 are not the same, and the Amazon MP3 are believed to be better quality.

Classical and Jazz music buyers perfer Amazon, for example.

I choose to download from Amazon because the quality might be better but mostly because iTunes has too much market share and so I support the #2 player whenever I can.

  117. Sometimes I wonder if Kris’ is AI’s sacrificial lamb. To bad if that proves to be the case. I really like the kid and he has a nice pleasant voice, is Ok with the guitar, and does alright on the stage. But based on what all the old timers are saying about the numbers game for the first release out of the gate…I’m thinking that Kris might not be able to recover from his slow start. Sad That!

  118. But it does say something about the strength of the initial fanbase and their willingness to buy anything and everything.

Exactly. Which is why it makes no sense to argue about different genres, songs being current, real singles or not, etc. Those 1st 24-48 hours are driven primarily by people who will buy anything you put out. People who follow your every move, waiting with bated for the chance to download your song. So that’s why it matters how these fall single releases do in the first few days.

I don’t think Kris has a lot of those people relative to other idol finalists. But, he may have a lot of casual fans that don’t wait for drops of news, but who will pick it up when the promo starts to reach them. Or not. We’ll see what happens.

  119. All MP3 are not the same, and the Amazon MP3 are believed to be better quality.

I’ve heard that iTunes has better quality digital songs even though Amazon MP3’s and iTunes Plus songs have the same bitrate, since the MP3 format is lower quality than the iTunes AAC format?

Anyway, I think the OP was talking about CD orders from Amazon, and yes, the best quality is always the CD. That’s why I still buy CDs if it’s the a record I care about. And yeah, Amazon is great for ordering CDs at good prices if you’re too lazy to go to the store. And I’m in my 20s.

  120. Wouldn’t it have been easier for her to text back rather than tweet? I think someone is looking for some publicity.

    Smart girl- good for her.

This is what Twitter is best at- reaching the largest number of people at any given moment in time. Perfect way to promote oneself- beats useless “I had pie” tweets or whatever :)

  121. Oh and then Jive releases David Archuleta’s holiday album but issues very few copies to stores. (A lot of people are reporting that the stores must special order it for people.)

The last of Archie Christmas CD’s at retailers probably has nothing to do with Jive. Retailers are being very conservative about the amount of inventory they have this Holiday season — I would expect to see short supply of many items this year in the US. Retailers stock stores based upon estimated sell through, and it is hard to predict new release CD sell through. And they only stock deep on albums that are expected to be very big.

That said — both of my nearby Walmart’s and my Sam’s Club have lots of Archie’s CD. Of course, they could have put more in the Southeast because Idol is so popular here. (I live in a real Mississippi city — we have 2 Super Walmarts and that is a city in Mississippi.)

  122. sma11ie: All MP3 are not the same, and the Amazon MP3 are believed to be better quality.

I’ve heard that iTunes has better quality digital songs even though Amazon MP3’s and iTunes Plus songs have the same bitrate, since the MP3 format is lower quality than the iTunes AAC format?

I wish I was in my 20’s. But I also by CD and some vinyl — but since CD singles don’t exist, I do download music.

Regarding the MP3 discussion, if anyone is aware of any test data on this, I would appreciate. I do know that TfM iTunes and Amazon are not identical. They not only sound different but I mapped the data and it is slightly different. I never actually paid attention to this before — and now I am interested in knowing more.

And, yes, I will own a CD version of TfM as soon as it is available. It may be a cheesetastic song but Adam’s vocals are stunning. Now, bring on the noveau glam electro pop rock dance fusion + ballads album for my entertainment!

  123. Classical and Jazz music buyers perfer Amazon, for example.

To buy CDs, sure. Amazon has the widest selection. Are they really buying the MP3s in large numbers? The fidelity of any downloaded music isn’t great. Much better to buy the physical CD. So, I’d be surprised.

  124. I don’t get Jive Records at all. They release the single for download but they don’t put it up for adds for three weeks, after the momentum has died. And then they make a video that won’t be released for another month

True, Suzanne.. Millions who saw and liked Kris on AI may have no clue he has a single. TV watchers watch TV. Kris not on TV. They’re probably waiting until there is a video to book him.

And they might still love Kris, but don’t see the things they loved in this single.

Or they love him, and don’t much love this song, so are waiting for the album. (That would include me.) Or they love him and are waiting for the video. Either because it’s a recession, so people don’t buy single and video and album of everyone. Just one format. Or because they don’t much love this song, and why would they want a single, a video and a album featuring it. (I might download the video just to support and watch once or twice without buffering interference.)

Kris has almost 113K Twitter followers. Half of them haven’t purchased yet. Maybe for reasons above. (Or they think they bought a Season Pass and they didn’t.)

  125. For people here who may be interested in Ryan Star, either because he was on a reality show or because he opened all those shows for David Cook:
@Atlantic Records Log on to watch the live video premiere of @ryanstar’s “BREATHE” TODAY @ 2:30 PM ET. http://bit.ly/49xPcm #breathe4jobs

That show is an effin menace. The last thing you ever want to buy is the biggest house on the block. And, overbuilding for the neighborhood is just plain stupid. Some of these homes are unsellable to any future buyers. Keep in mind also, that when you triple the size of a house, you also triple the property taxes, homeowner’s insurance and maintenance costs. That’s the reason a lot of these people wind up taking out home equity loans and finding themselves in foreclosure later.

Seriously, this show isn’t doing anyone any favors for the long-term. If the family plans to live in that house for the next 5 generations, I can see where it might work out. But, Ty never can stay within the scale of the neighborhood. If he did, and just added the amenities or modifications for special needs, then this show really would be performing a public service.

Sorry for the rant. I just hate that f*cking show so much for pretending to do people this huge favor when in reality it’s saddling them with an asset they cannot maintain or liquidate.

I haven’t been watching this show as much as I used to but the few times I’ve seen it lately, I’ve noticed they really have cut back on the size and the accessories.

  128. Twitter followers isn’t much of an indicator of anything. I can’t even count how many artists I follow on Twitter but probably will never buy their music. Some Idols I follow because they amuse me or I like THEM but not necessarily want to buy their music.

Correct me if I’m wrong about Tattoo, but didn’t have more consistent sales than what LLWD is doing? I know it started off slow but I don’t remember it having these big drops every week. I’m with Kirsten thinking the numbers are pretty bad. Which is a shame because I adore Kris and I think its one of the better winners singles.

Has Kris gotten any less marketing that the other Idols who released singles? I’ve read that David Cook and David Archuleta got primarily the same amount of promo for their singles as Kris got. Premiering the single on one of the top radio stations in the country, radio interviews promoting the single including on Seacrest’s show that’s syndicated across the country, and performances at radio station sponsored events

I think if anything he’s actually gotten MORE marketing than some others at this stage. Light On had a Popeater premiere and didn’t even get played on Z100 until DC’s album came out. I don’t remember Seacrest giving it any spins until it cracked his AT40 show which took a while. The one leg up he had was he got to perform is on SNL before the album dropped but even before that sales were way higher. Maybe sales will spike up when Kris actually starts performing it on TV but right now its really slow for, I think 4 weeks? Rabid fanbase is one thing and not saying its important but like I said I could swear even Jordin was doing better at this point.

  129. Has Kris gotten any less marketing that the other Idols who released singles? I’ve read that David Cook and David Archuleta got primarily the same amount of promo for their singles as Kris got.

I believe Kris has had less STRATEGIC pr — maybe the same amount overall, but bungled in terms of timing, ads, announcements, etc.

It’s interesting, isn’t it, that Kris’s iTune releases from the Idol show sold really well, even No Boundaries? This says to me that 1) mainstream TV shows are much more valuable than radio shows for plugging a product; 2) people maybe expected something different from Kris, since LLWD was more of a rock joint; 3) he’s getting crappy advice and backup.

  130. New article about Adam and Lady Gaga collaboration from MTV News.

Adam Lambert And Lady Gaga Join The Pantheon Of Great Superstar Collabos

The Gaga/Lambert connection represents an incredible union of talent, essentially bringing together two of the biggest names in pop music right now. Collaborations are a dime a dozen, but something like this doesn’t come along very often: A tag-team effort that brings together two massive names. They join a handful of top-shelf hook-ups: Jay-Z has a galaxy of huge collaborations (including Alicia Keys, and Linkin Park), David Bowie and Queen got together for the massive single “Under Pressure” and Michael and Janet Jackson collaborated for “Scream.” Click here for a look at 10 great superstar collaborations, including Britney and Madonna, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney and Dylan and the Dead!

According to MTV News Adam is a “massive name” “one of the biggest names in pop music right now”. And he really hasn’t released one of his “own” songs yet! LOL, what will they say when he actually releases his “own” first single.

Also, as far as I can tell — Adam is being covered from the MTV Music beat vs. Idol beat. At least he’s started to escape the bubble.

  131. Oh and then Jive releases David Archuleta’s holiday album but issues very few copies to stores.

Is it possible that it’s just kind of early in the holiday season to stock huge numbers of Christmas CDs? I suspect David’s elfin little face will be everywhere come Black Friday. Personally, I’ll happily do my Christmas shopping in September, but I don’t want to hear one jingle bell before Thanksgiving.

Sigh. Couldn’t Cookie be on an episode of Glee or Fringe instead? I refuse to widen my TV viewing horizons. I hope he at least has a performance I can catch on YouTube.

  132. Twitter followers isn’t much of an indicator of anything. I can’t even count how many artists I follow on Twitter but probably will never buy their music. Some Idols I follow because they amuse me or I like THEM but not necessarily want to buy their music.

I agree, Twitter is far too new a medium to be indicative of anything at this point.

I haven’t purchased LLWD yet either. I don’t do pre-orders, and I usually need to hear something several times before I feel compelled to buy it. I haven’t purchased TFM yet either. I guess I’m just more of a waiting type person.

  133. tattoo was also out on radio for about a month before released on itunes though. it’ hard to compare when LLWD was released on itunes about 3 weeks before radio really started playing it.

i’ve always been optimistic about LLWD since i think it’s a good song and it just needs to be exposed to more people (from the numbers posted, it’s AI isn’t that huge yet), but i am starting to get a tiny bit concerned that it hasn’t moved back into the Top 100 even. have the midwest and south stations picked up the song yet? alas, it’s just starting to take off on radio, so hopefully we’ll see the sales pick up a bit.

  134. colette

Really interesting post — I agree with all three of these reasons.

And, it seems that iTunes is heavily driven by TV, Online marketing/buzz media and Online Radio vs. FM Radio (Glee for example). And the success of SuBo proves that online buzz can drive CD sales — because she built her global fanbase on YouTube.

  135. cheese, ditto to this:

Personally, I’ll happily do my Christmas shopping in September, but I don’t want to hear one jingle bell before Thanksgiving.

I LOVE Christmas — love it, love it — but I am not ready to go into Christmas mode until after Thanksgiving which includes Christmas tunes. I will probably pick up Archie’s album then. I am very fond of the kid, and I think that pure, beautiful voice will be perfect for Christmas songs.

They are niche markets but have huge catelogs available only on digital – and these sell on Amazon – one of the few places to buy them. And for some Amazon sites, the MP3 top sellers are filled with Classical — Germany/Austria for example.

I hope it’s the version from the video. And I like Suzie McNeil I didn’t know she had new stuff out.

  140. Lambert is one of the biggest names in pop music right now? really? talk about hyperbole’ ¦

I know right? That kind of stuff is soooo annoying to this Adam stan. Adam hasn’t even released a real single off of his first album. So yeah, no. Not even close.

  141. The Gaga/Lambert connection represents an incredible union of talent, essentially bringing together two of the biggest names in pop music right now…

….Britney and Madonna, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney and Dylan and the Dead!

    So, which one’s Sir Paul?

Thanks for bringing that article over, Q3. Has Leila Lambert gotta a job at MTV? Even intensely dedicated fan such as I might need a few more shots of kool-aid before risking “biggest names in pop music right now” as a substitute phrase for “hasn’t released an album yet.”

And not sure if one can compare the union of “Britney & Madonna” as the same aggregate talent in the collab room as “Dylan & The Dead.”

  142. Twitter followers isn’t much of an indicator of anything. I can’t even count how many artists I follow on Twitter but probably will never buy their music. Some Idols I follow because they amuse me or I like THEM but not necessarily want to buy their music.

Very true. I’ll be honest that I follow most of the idols, but probably won’t buy much of their music except Adam’s – that’s all I did most of the season, too.

I believe Kris has had less STRATEGIC pr ‘” maybe the same amount overall, but bungled in terms of timing, ads, announcements, etc.

ITA – that’s my take as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised, too, if Kris is suffering a bit wrt fan retention.

Last year, I loved David Cook after the finale, had the pictures, the downloads, couldn’t wait for the tour, etc. But by the time the tour in late august rolled around, and most definitely after that, I just didn’t have the same interest – and wound up not buying the album.

In contrast, this season with Adam, here it is so many months later, and I still can’t get enough of the music, pics, interviews, PR, ANYTHING Adam related.

Part of the equation becomes, despite who won, who had the most fans and votes for the finale in May – how many of those people really hang around and care come October?

    Just a thought.

  143. Also, as far as I can tell ‘” Adam is being covered from the MTV Music beat vs. Idol beat. At least he’s started to escape the bubble.

Thank goodness, I was worried about how Jim C. would be able to divide his time! Between his love for all things Kris and Allison, he’ll have his hands so full.

I hope they start some promotion for Allison soon! I really liked her song, didn’t think it was all the way her vibe, but I think it will be really successful.

  144. I hope they start some promotion for Allison soon! I really liked her song, didn’t think it was all the way her vibe, but I think it will be really successful.

YES! Am I the only one (well, probs not!) who thought it weird that we got that leak of the song WAY back when, but then no official download date soon after that? And not a peep of PR after that either?

  145. I think we are getting over concerned about LLWD sales. It is still too early.
Here is my take, a lot of Kris fans bought the itunes pass expecting to get his single when it drops. The first two weeks represents the other half of his fans who downloaded without the pass. Therefore the sales nubers published last week and today might as well be people outside the idol fanbase who are buying the song, so for me all is good.
I strongly believe Jive is okay with the numbers so far, knowing the number of itunes sold after the season which of course will not show in the sales numbers we see here but definately gives them an idea of what Kris’ numbers would have been without the itunes passes.
We in the idoldome are the ones worried so much about these numbers. I came accross an add for Dollhouse on all access this morning and was suprised it had sold less than 40,000 though it debut on 08/01.
So I believe Jive has their own plan and I am not worried about Kris at all.

  146. Hey folks, and MJ:

does anyone know how to look up specific posts (by readers) on this site? It’s very cumbersome to go through 150 posts to find one you’re looking for, but I can’t figure out how to do it otherwise….

  147. I hope they start some promotion for Allison soon! I really liked her song, didn’t think it was all the way her vibe, but I think it will be really successful.

Agreed. And could they make the single available to buy legally again, after screwing up the first time? Or at least put a date out there when it will be?

  148. Also, as far as I can tell ‘” Adam is being covered from the MTV Music beat vs. Idol beat. At least he’s started to escape the bubble.

Jim is busy with Kris and Archie. Maybe next time he will have time mentioning Adam in his article.

  149. Part of the equation becomes, despite who won, who had the most fans and votes for the finale in May ‘“ how many of those people really hang around and care come October?

I also think in that discussion is who was the real favorite of the people that voted in the finale. I really liked Whatnottosing.com’s analysis of the season and talking about how Adam, due to his polarizing performances and persona, was not as likely to pick up voters from the fanbases of other, performers as those people were eliminated. The concert tour was revealing in that in a lot of venues, Danny and Kris seemed to get approxiamately equal crowd reaction.

You just have to wonder if votes from someone whose favorite got eliminated before the finale really translate into sales when the singles come out.

Then again, maybe it’s just all about the music.

I’m sorry. They’re comparing (sort of) Adam singing a Gaga-written song to … “Under Pressure” and “Scream.”

Yikes. Way to overplay the hype. Stop it stop it stop it, you hyperbole-inflamed nutso entertainment writers. Gah.

  151. I still love Elliott. That is all. ;)

I love Adam and know he’s sparkly, but these writers need to not be so hypno-tized by that and get a grip! What a silly thing for this person to write. Silly and annoying.

It’s from MTV. General music writer, too, not an Idol person, I don’t think.

I love Elliott, too. (bet y’all are surprised — as Elliott would say).

  155. Anyhew, those pictures of Jim and Archie are cute. And Jim shouldn’t worry, he doesn’t look that bad in that picture. In fact I think Archie and he look kind of adorable. Odd for October, but adorable.

  156. Elliott will always be my idol. I enjoy the other idols, but Elliott just touches my heart. I love him too.
Speaking of Elliott’s charitable acts, here is a video with Elliott talking about his work with Exxon Mobile for an orphanage/school in Africa.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLH6rS7kAaA

Elliott did a concert at the 1st Washingon’s Ideas Forum a few weeks ago and Exxon Mobile donated $100,000 to the school for his participation. Here’s a link to an article about that.

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ExxonMobil-American-Idol-bw-579778206.html?x=0

He had said in an interview a long time ago that he and Fantasia talked about how to raise money for the school and they thought about doing a benefit concert together. Fantasia’s schedule has not allowed her time to do this, so Elliott took it upon himself to get something done. It’s too bad about the Fantasia/Elliott concert though. That would be awesome!!

Elliott has a beautiful soul as well as a beautiful voice. I adore him!

  158. Emotionally manipulative, yeah. Not getting the disappointment for Cookie’s ‘surprise’ . It’s so him, to use his vacation from touring to do something like this. I love that his giddyness about his surprise isn’t about promo for him, but about helping out a cancer-stricken family.

I just want to clarify that my previous rant against Extreme Home Makeover had nothing to do with David Cook. He appears to be a person who is extremely generous with his time when it comes to charity work. I commend him for that. My venom was directed solely at Ty and those idiot producers.

I still love Elliott. That is all.

Who wrote the quote above? I guessing somebody who wrotes about Idol for a living. Or could it be from Associated Content. Somebody hose them down.

I like Adam. I voted for Adam. And yet, a lot of the recent hyperbole is giving me a pretty big headache. Some of these media peeps are starting to lay it on thicker than the squeeing/flailing fangirls.

And yes, Elliott is still many shades of awesome :)

    Hey folks, and MJ:

does anyone know how to look up specific posts (by readers) on this site? It’s very cumbersome to go through 150 posts to find one you’re looking for, but I can’t figure out how to do it otherwise’ ¦.

What I do if I’m searching for something or someone specific is to go to the browser menu, click on Edit, and then select Find. Then I use the Find function to look up the word I’m searching. It was a lot easier when you could view all pages of a thread at once, but it seems those days are gone. I hope that that functionality will return some day. But until then, you’ll have to search each page one at a time.

  160. Elliott will always be my idol. I enjoy the other idols, but Elliott just touches my heart. I love him too.
Speaking of Elliott’s charitable acts, here is a video with Elliott talking about his work with Exxon Mobile for an orphanage/school in Africa.

Elliot is awesome. His CD is great.

  161. I’m glad that AI has provided a platform for lots of kids to promote legitimate worthwhile charities and charitable activities. So many of the constestants have done this and I admire each of them who have done so.

  162. So cool Lynsey just tweeted that she heard 8 songs of Kris’s and 4 of Adams and she loved them all. And she interviewed Kris for 30 mintues. She’ll post it tomorror and talk a little about each she heard.

  163. Elliot is awesome.

Yeah. I will never forget Elliott’s performance of “Moody’s Mood for Love” on Idol. It was a real moment, and so I always think of him fondly and appreciate him as someone with a lot of raw talent.

  164. I like Adam. I voted for Adam. And yet, a lot of the recent hyperbole is giving me a pretty big headache. Some of these media peeps are starting to lay it on thicker than the squeeing/flailing fangirls.

I’ve been thinking about it, and I think for those outside the Idol bubble not seeing every bit of coverage on Adam, this kind of hyperbole will only help him overall. Regular people just hear enough hype to have his name in their conscious for when they hear his songs, and radio PDs will get the sense they need to spin this guy cuz of the buzz, and before you know it, it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy and Adam does become the next big thing… There may be backlash among hardcore Idol fans that he’s being overhyped, etc. but hardcore fans are a small percentage of the potential market, and the hype is good for convincing non-Idol fans that this guy has major buzz and is worth checking out. I don’t see this hurting him unless his songs absolutely suck balls.

  165. Article about Jennifer Hudson who is rumored to be in talks to play Winnie Mandela in an indie film.

Yea!!! I hope this rumor comes true!!!

  166. I still don’t get taking Allison’s song off of Itunes.

Is it ever coming back? Its been like 2 weeks already!

  167. In other news, I really liked (and identify) with Ryan Star’s Breathe video. You can watch it here.
I would love to hear a high quality version of Cook singing backup for him rather than this one. Hee, I guess Ryan knew he had to go over to David’s mic to get any video recognition. Most people focusing solely on David in their videos makes me love being there live even more. I chalk it up to bling trance.

In still other news, Jennifer getting to play Winnie Mandela could be a huge thing if the movie is any good. Good on her.

  168. Suzanne,
Yeah, Jive does not promote big time. They are cheaper on their advertising. This same thing happened last year with David Archuleta and his single, then his album. They seemed to wait on promoting the single until the album came out. But, luckily, he did very well with both. His single is at 2 million. Which Jive just barely got around to certifying the 1 million this summer. Who knows if they will recognize the 2 mill when it becomes official.
I’m sure, as the album date gets closer for kris, we’ll see more promoting.

On the other hand, 19 RCA goes bonkers promoting album, not as much singles. Although, this single for Adam, is it being promoted by RCA or the movie company? Probably both. And that is why we see the explosive promo there.

I think Kris is following a more gradual pace like the Sparks, Archuleta path which will take more time and yet, bring great results in the long run. Slow and steady. Which, in the end, wins the race kind of thing.

  169. It’s too bad about the Fantasia/Elliott concert though. That would be awesome!!

Elliott has a beautiful soul as well as a beautiful voice. I adore him!

Yes and yes. I’m still holding out for the Fanty/E-double concert, though! Would love to see them together. Thanks for reminding us of those other lovely-Elliott events. He’s a great guy. If only more people got to hear him *sing,* dang it.

And for those who still remember Elliott’s raw talent fondly — He’s moved way beyond that now! Check out some of his many songs on Itunes — maybe you’ll want to buy a couple for your Ipod rotation! Seriously, his singing, like himself, has “many shades of awesome” and is, in fact, getting awesomer!

  170. Although, this single for Adam, is it being promoted by RCA or the movie company? Probably both. And that is why we see the explosive promo there.

I thought it was just a Sony thing and Adam was “on loan,” to them. RCA and Sony being the same company you say? Well multi-national corporations are your friend! Or so I’ve been led to believe.

I think Kris is following a more gradual pace like the Sparks, Archuleta path which will take more time and yet, bring great results in the long run. Slow and steady. Which, in the end, wins the race kind of thing.

I like to think that is the path Kris will have as well. Slow and steady and in it for the long haul.

  171. Danny’s first blog at Sophia’s Heart foundation:

    http://www.sophiasheart.org/journal.php

His words are heartfelt and he does talk about the hate he received during the show. Nice blog. I still say that Danny is a really nice guy and he admits that he was in over his head and was very “green”.

  172. and before you know it, it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy and Adam does become the next big thing’ ¦ There may be backlash among hardcore Idol fans that he’s being overhyped, etc. but hardcore fans are a small percentage of the potential market, and the hype is good for convincing non-Idol fans that this guy has major buzz and is worth checking out. I don’t see this hurting him unless his songs absolutely suck balls.

I don’t disagree with you at all. I think you very well may turn out to be absolutely correct. Hype is, after all, something many in the PR business set out to achieve.

  173. Susan Boyle doesn’t surprise me at all. Her target audience would be the age group (mine) that frequents Amazon the most.

  174. Red guitar made it on the album. So excited. ( out of 12 on the tracks are either written or co writen by Kris. Am so excited. She also said his been taking voice lessons since winning Idol.

Red guitar made it on the album. So excited. ( out of 12 on the tracks are either written or co writen by Kris. Am so excited. She also said his been taking voice lessons since winning Idol.

Great news! I was really hoping his songs would make the record! Is the 9 out of 12 tracks written or cowritten by Kris?

From IDF: Adam and the Details model are/were on Extra TV tonight. Here is a report:

They called the shoot “Adam Lambert’s sex shoot with a naked model”. They put red banners over the naked girl bits on the photos. She was asked who was more nervous between the two of them. She said they both were. They showed a couple of bits from the shoot video, Adam’s crush on Paula and where he says he delved in.

Does anyone know anything about this? Video link?

    And — Crush on Paula?

  177. Although, this single for Adam, is it being promoted by RCA or the movie company? Probably both. And that is why we see the explosive promo there.

The promotion of TfM is being managed by Columbia Pictures out of the 2012 budget. But the Soundtrack and TfM are distributed by RCA Records.

I think we call this “synergy”. Or in Adam’s case — a nice opportunity to get a lot of marketing on someone else’s dime.

  178. Here’s the link to Lyndsey Parker’s preview of Kris’ album (which she really likes!)

NINE of the 12 songs on the album are written or co-written by Kris. YAY!!!

“Red Guitar” made the cut! Not sure about “I Need to Know” — Lyndsey evidently didn’t hear that one.

Her favorite of the songs she heard — “Can’t Stay Away”, co-written by Kris and Mike Elizondo

    http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/279432/preview-alert-reality-rocks-kris-allen-listening-session/

  179. Susan Boyle doesn’t surprise me at all. Her target audience would be the age group (mine) that frequents Amazon the most.

I’m curious – what age group frequents Amazon the most? I ask only because I’m an Amazon junkee, and I wonder if I fit. (I’m very self-centered, I like shopping for me, but not other people LOL. So, if I need to get a gift or buy something that’s only sold in stores I find uninteresting, it’s so much easier to just sit at my laptop and order it).

(Also, I’m a little frightened that I might be in SuBo’s target demo. Because I would rather poke myself in the eye than listen to her sing).

  180. That was a VERY nice review of some songs on Kris album. Didn’t sound like she thought it was a typical idol record at all, but would she honestly say so if she thought it? I think LLWD is one of the better AI winner singles so maybe the album will be one of the better too?

  181. Hmm.. in Lyndsay article about Kris’ album, she only talks about 7 songs. I wonder what happen to the #8?

  182. Does anyone know anything about this? Video link?

    And ‘” Crush on Paula?

Adam said in his audition he used to have the biggest crush on Paula (ya know, when he was 10). So yeah, old news.

  183. Interesting review by Lyndsey Parker of Kris’s stuff, sounds good! And we agree about our favourite Kris songs on AI as well, hers were mine, we disagree about LLWD though, so not as sure how our tastes will line up after that. But sounds really good and 9 out of 12 written in part by Kris? score! and he got Red Guitar on it. Excellent.

But is that Lyndsey just interpreting Kris’s feeling about Jive and 19 on a song or does Kris really feel that way, because maybe just a skoosh early in the game for that one.

ETA: for clarity “this song’s lyrics grapple with Kris’s sometimes frustrating experience of working on his album and having to compromise with the powers-that-be at Jive Records and 19 Entertainment. This is ironic, since “Let The Rain” is actually one of the stronger songs I heard; it doesn’t sound like there was any compromising going on here at all, in this case. The goosebumpy chorus soars and climbs higher than “No Boundaries” ever did, that’s for sure. Good stuff with good third-single potential (after “Can’t Stay Away,” of course). “

  184. This is so cute and sweet.. and the suspense is killing me.. lol

@OniTshA Rehearsin with Carrie Underwood & David Cook! They be JAMMIN on the ONE!! JAM JAM JAMMINN on the one!! Heee!!!about 1 hour ago from UberTwitter

OMG brb dying! Who is she?! What are they JAMMIN on!!?!

ETA: googling it looks like “jammin on the one” is actually a slang term, its even in Urban dictionary LOL Here’s an example talking about Prince:

Sometime around Lovesexy/SOTT era, Prince performed in London. They were jammin’ on the One. Then Prince pauses and says:

“Dr. Fink, what chu wanna play now?” to which Dr. Fink replied, “I dunno, but what ever I play, it’s got to be FUNKAY!” then Prince yells, “AWWWWW SHIIIIITTTTT!!” they began jammin’ again! It was a priceless interchange…

And it looks like that whole Prince thing he took from a James Brown song called Make It Funky? It does look like that girl sings gospel. Oh man getting excited! I’m thinking it has to be something in the vein of a Xmas song..I thought from the press the only non-Xmas songs would be Carrie’s from Play On.

  186. My vote is U2, ” One”. I can see them doing that one together.

If you go to OniTshA’s linked facebook, it looks like she sings gospel music, but I’m just guessing.

ETA: to change my song choice after listening to six different songs with “One” in the title. Or it could just be slang… “jammin on the one”.

  187. It could be U2’s One. That actually has male and female voices in it, and I think they’d kill on that song.

  188. I’m so happy for Kris. Even if the album doesn’t do well, and I think it will, at least it will reflect his vision, and be a reflection of the type of music that he wants to make. Having so many writing credits on his album will also lead to other artists seeking him out, Kris is just at the beginning of an amazing career.

  189. I *love* that article Lyndsay Parker wrote. Even better that it’s not Slezak or Cantiello so people won’t dismiss it as “fangirling”, lol.

I’m really excited by the vibe she seems to be describing, very fresh and current and upbeat. And wow, 9 out of 12 cowrites, a lot of confidence there from the label in Kris’ writing ability :D

I can’t wait to hear this album!!!

  190. I love Kris’s BNS he did per idol,so am sure i’ll love this album. Espically since he thought it was bad and doesn’t seem to really want to talk about it. Am glad the Eg White one made it on the album, and the one I was most excited for Red Guitar. Am really looking forward to it more then I was before. I wonder when she’s going to have Adam’s up< And also tomorrow she'll post the interview she did with Kris. I love Adam and everything but am so glad we got some good Kris stuff today.

  191. Also, someone on ontd_ai who has been calling Z-100 a lot to request LLWD talked to one of the DJs, who strongly hinted Kris will be performing at that station’s JingleBall concert (which is at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 11th). The full lineup for that concert will be announced next Monday…

  192. LOVE the article Lyndsay Parker wrote. SO EXCITED!!! I WANT TO HEAR THOSE SONGS JUST NOW!!

Very happy to see that “Red Guitar” made it on the album. And it’s impressive that he’s involved in the co-writing of the other 8 songs.
Curious to hear Lyndsay favorite “Can’t Stay Away”.
It’s cool that Jim C. favorite is not even on this list.
Overall, it seems a very promising album!!

  193. So Lyndsey Parker interviewed Kris (she will post that tomorrow). She also heard some of Adam’s songs and is scheduled to hear Allison’s stuff next week. She will be writing preview blogs about what she heard of Adam’s and Allison’s stuff, like she did for Kris’ album today…

    these were her tweets:

Just went to 19 offices where I heard 8 Kris Allen songs & 4 Adam Lambert songs!! Loved everything I heard! So excited for these albums.
about 3 hours ago from web

I’ll write album-preview blogs based on what I heard. I also interviewed Kris for 30 mins, will put that up tomorrow. Productive, happy day!
about 3 hours ago from web

For those who asked, I will hear Allison’s songs next week. Time to write now…
about 3 hours ago from web

  194. Wow that was a great review from Lyndsey, better than I expected. She only had reservations on one song and she said it was one of the few Kris didn’t have a hand in writing. Also, Jim Cantiello’s favorite song was not even mentioned in Lyndsey’s review so there is at least another really good song on the album to get excited about.

I’m thrilled Kris had in hand in writing 9 of the 12 songs and I’m so glad Red Guitar made it. I hope the Joe King and Matt Kearney songs are also on the album.

  195. How is Lyndsey Parker coherent enough to even write these blogs after hearing 8 of Kris’ songs and 4 of Adam’s??? LOL

She gave a great review to Kris’ stuff, and now she’s gone bonkers over Adam’s stuff!

  196. Lyndsey was rather vague about whether she liked adam’s tracks…lol…I hope she recovers! Love her

  197. Lindsay Parker gives a review of adam tracks:
“I can tell you all, based on the three tracks I heard, For Your Entertainment sounds NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, like “Time For Miracles.” These freaky-deaky songs, in all their wondrously neon-lit, mirror-balled, future-shocked, robot-rockin’ glory, almost don’t even sound like they were recorded by the same artist, the same human being…except for the fact that that voice is unmistakable, of course.”

YES!!!! Thank you!!! It sounds like the essence of Adam. Woohoo! I wonder why she only got to listen to 3 of Adam’s. Sounds like they’re either a) using listening impressions to help them decide on a single or (b) can’d decide which of the rest of the songs will go on the album….which is worrisome.

  198. Lindsay Parker gives a review of adam tracks:
‘I can tell you all, based on the three tracks I heard, For Your Entertainment sounds NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, like ‘Time For Miracles.’ These freaky-deaky songs, in all their wondrously neon-lit, mirror-balled, future-shocked, robot-rockin’ glory, almost don’t even sound like they were recorded by the same artist, the same human being’ ¦except for the fact that that voice is unmistakable, of course.’

Hallelujah!!! TY Lindsay for that tibit. NOTHING LIKE TFM. Yeah!!!!

  199. ETA: googling it looks like ‘jammin on the one’ is actually a slang term, its even in Urban dictionary LOL Here’s an example talking about Prince:

Trina-Here it is from The Cosby Show. haha

I’m getting more excited about this special. :)

  201. Kris debuts on the HDD Vibe Raters chart at #5

Season 8 Idol winner seeing huge love at Pop and Hot Adult: Z100, WPLJ, WTMX, WXXL, WPRO, KRBE, WWWQ, tons more. LP hitting 11/17. Marco Puig directed vid in post production. GMA 11/17, Regis & Kelly 11/18, taping Ellen 11/19, Conan to follow. Radio promo events all of December. Tons of press. Mgmt: Stirling McIlwaine/19 Ent.

FYI this was where (for me anyway) it was pretty much confirmed Simon Fuller was Daughtry and DC’s manager, so I’m thinking SF won’t be quite as involved with Kris.

Nope. Someone who attended Brad’s early taping reported that he sang one of his own songs and his part of a duet with Carrie of a song she chose. Neither was a Christmas song.

  208. Nope. Someone who attended Brad’s early taping reported that he sang one of his own songs and his part of a duet with Carrie of a song she chose. Neither was a Christmas song.

So, what do you think it is? I don’t know if the tweeter’s specific word usage means anything, but I read elsewhere speculation that it might be either a U2 song or Elton Johns’ The One.

  209. In other news, I really liked (and identify) with Ryan Star’s Breathe video. You can watch it here.

Loved that video, thanks for bringing it over! I hadn’t watched it yet, though I’ve seen Ryan live 3 times and liked him more each time. He sings the song beautifully live. I didn’t, alas, get a Ryan/David Cook duet version.

  210. The speculation about those two songs came from the person who tweeted using the term “jammin on the one”. I mean I guess it could be one of those but I really don’t know. The U2 song is called “One”, not The One. After seeing that particular term is a type of slang I’m not so sure the word “one” means much. Believe me I’ll take anything over a Christmas song so really I’m open to whatever it is LOL

    eta: he just tweeted aw!

@thedavidcook Off to dine with the guys, then practice for tomorrow. Gotta keep up with Underwood.

I remember he said back right before he performed with her for the Disney event he had to try and keep up with her. Too cute. Wait he still has rehearsal going on??

  211. @thedavidcook Off to dine with the guys, then practice for tomorrow. Gotta keep up with Underwood.

Hee. He is so willing to help our group hug with his tweets. Thanks, David :)

  212. David Cook’s latest twitter: “Off to dine with the guys, then practice for tomorrow. Gotta keep up with Underwood.”

He tweets just enough to let fans know he’s alive, keep us hanging on every word – but doesn’t tell the details we want to hear – like what he’s singing with Carrie

eta – Hi Tierbee, Trina, everyone! we’re in this fan thing together, on the same wavelength, I think

  213. Are the VH1 polls done by Internet voting. Because how did Adam Lambert a guy who hasn’t released an album or had any music played on VH1 get to be their #1 artist.

And who ranks tours because I’m wondering exactly how Cook’s small to mid sized venue tour beat out the Black Eyed Peas and Green Day. Both results seem like nonsense to me.

Someone call Brian May and tell him Adam’s album songs won’t sound like TFM. Wasn’t he the guy who though it was a timeless anthem or something.

  214. I had actually wondered if he might not tweet extensively many details because he knows Carrie hates Twitter and thinks its like organized stalking heh.

  215. eta ‘“ Hi Tierbee! we’re in this fan thing together, I think

Yep, I do believe so :)

  216. I can’t wait for Carrie and Cook. Whatever they sing will be amazing. We have proof they sing really well together.

I firmly believe that those VH1 lists as well as AOL’s Tour Tracker rankings are determined solely by web traffic (i.e. hits for that artist on those particular websites). VH1 has artist homepages that list videos, singles, albums, and tour info – and they have overall rankings for each of these subcategories. I think anytime someone clicks to see info about Cook or Kelly’s upcoming tour dates, it improves their ranking on the VH1 Tour chart. Same thing with the AOL Tour Tracker. Otherwise there’s truly no rhyme or reason to it because the rankings on those sites definitely don’t line-up with published boxscores.

  218. “FYI this was where (for me anyway) it was pretty much confirmed Simon Fuller was Daughtry and DC’s manager, so I’m thinking SF won’t be quite as involved with Kris.”

Didn’t Kris say in an interview a little while ago that he and Daughtry had the same manager, Stirling and I would assume that is the Stirling McIlwaine/19 Ent mentioned. Isn’t he one of SF’s main guys?

  219. I don’t know..but when DC and Daughtry first appeared on the Vibe raters list under management it listed Simon Fuller (first) and then a secondary manager, like in Daughtry’s case it listed Simon and Stirling. I’ll bet anything when Adam debuts on the list you’ll see SF listed as his manager. I have no idea where I read this and I can try and search but I remember reading somewhere that when Jordin first appeared on the list Stirling and only Stirling was listed.

  220. I think Kris is manged by both Fuller and McIlwaine. If Fuller wasn’t involved in managing him, would he had had dinner with Kris in London when Kris was over there recording? Probably not. The fact that they did have dinner together suggests Fuller is involved in managing Kris, although I’m sure McIlwaine is the daily hands-on person…

  221. I bet Alison8701 is excited…tomorrow (the 22nd) is Anoop’s appearance at the NC State Fair

Adam had dinner or something with Fuller after the final show, it as part of Adam’s RS interview. But we don’t know if Adam is managed by Fuller. I tend to agree with Trina that having just McIlwaine’s name suggests he is Kris’s manager that he shares with Chris. And McIlwaine reports to Fuller, I believe. Not sure I think that Adam is necessarily managed by Fuller, but could be. Guess we’ll see if Adam gets one of those blurbs, and Fullers name is a part of it.

I don’t know who Adam’s more direct manager is, has it been mentioned?

  223. And who ranks tours because I’m wondering exactly how Cook’s small to mid sized venue tour beat out the Black Eyed Peas and Green Day. Both results seem like nonsense to me.

I think that’s just one of those random “good tours to see right now” lists. It cannot be a list of the top tours of 2009, because there are some much bigger guns that toured this year who are not on it. And, it cannot be based on revenue because Cook’s venues are too small (and the tickets are too cheap) to have beaten out those more established acts.
