David Archuleta on writing in Nashville

“My mind has, like, this chronic brain cramp, ” says the 18-year-old singer, noted for the deer-in-the-headlights he got on American Idol whenever he had to speak instead of sing. “I’m never good with words. I’m never good at explaining things. So to write songs and tell stories and have a structured song has always been difficult for me, but it’s something I know I need to work on.”

While his fans were snatching up copies of Christmas From the Heart, David was already hard at work on his next album. David spent most of last in Nashville, where singer-songwriter Joy Williams, a co-writer of Waiting for Yesterday, helped him put together songwriting sessions. During his Nashville stay, David also worked with singer-songwriter Matt Wertz, Mat Kearney producer Robert Marvin and producer/songwriter/novelist Matt Bronleewe.

Adam Lambert Unveils Apocalyptic ‘Time for Miracles’ Video

Adam Lambert’s ‘Time for Miracles’ video wasn’t supposed to debut until it was featured in movie theaters prior to Michael Jackson’s This Is It starting October 28th, but since the song was prematurely released this past weekend, Lambert’s official MySpace video page unveiled the ‘Miracles’ clip early. Anoop relishing the normalcy of home

CARRBORO — When Anoop Desai walked into a coffee shop recently, the other customers, immersed in books, conversations and their laptop computers, didn’t blink, ogle, stare or swoon.

Even after one photographer, then another began shooting his picture, still no one paid much attention. A few glanced over in mild curiosity, then went back to their work.

Desai, 22, who grew up in Chapel Hill, graduated from East Chapel Hill High School and UNC, and placed sixth on “American Idol, ” likes it that way.

While on the show and the summer Idol tour, he gained thousands of fans, many of them women, some of whom might faint dead away if he walked into a coffee shop where they were sitting.

What Do Adam Lambert and Details Have in Common?

Oh, look: metrosexual Bible Details landed America’s biggest gay pop star for a cover shoot. A very heterosexual cover shoot. (He sorta kisses a girl!!) No, Details doesn’t look gay at all.

Isn’t this just the problem with closeted Details in the first place? It’s always been so obviously gay, but at the same time it’s like your college roommate who would blast Liza Minnelli and then talk about how he loved fucking his girlfriend who lives in Canada. The mag’s closet mentality has even rubbed off on Lambert and they get him to say some really freaky things.

With new Oscar producers, academy makes a statement

In choosing former studio executive and producer Bill Mechanic and “Hairspray” director-choreographer Adam Shankman as co-producers of the 82nd annual Academy Awards, the academy is clearly carrying on what was started last year with the Laurence Mark-Bill Condon teaming.

In pairing Mechanic — a veteran exec and producer with wide-ranging relationships garnered from years of experience at studios like Fox (where he was chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment), Paramount and Disney — and Shankman, a creative producer, director and choreographer, the academy has essentially re-created the Condon-Mark dynamic and is clearly looking at that as the blueprint for future academy telecasts.

Dancing With the Stars’ results: Shock and awe

Nooo!!! In what was the first truly shocking elimination of the season, Olympic swimmer and personal favorite Natalie Coughlin was revealed to have the lowest total judges’ and viewers’ votes and was eliminated from the competition. And while her paso doble with partner Alec Mazo this week was not her strongest, one so-so dance performance certainly did not warrant this million-dollar mermaid’s premature exit from the season. I mean, come on ‘” as an Olympian, Natalie should have at least made it to the medal round! And I don’t know what’s worse: the fact that the much-decorated swimmer ‘” who, as Carrie Ann said, showed great amounts of flexibility, strength and grace ‘” was ousted so early in the program, or that she was ushered off with a blaringly tactless version of Fats Domino’s ‘Ain’t That a Shame.’ Oh, it hurts, America. It really hurts.
