Piers Morgan: Cheryl Cole and a Pussycat Doll Will Judge American ‘X-Factor’

Is CNN host-in-waiting Piers Morgan getting back at his buddy Simon Cowell?

Morgan told reporters at his alma mater, the tabloid News of the World, that singer Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls will be the judges on the American version of “X-Factor.” His comments come nearly three months after Cowell blabbed to the press about Morgan’s negotiations with CNN,

Simon’s rep recently denied the Cole/Scherzinger rumors claming it was too soon, although Simon recently  told Extra he was close to signing the first judge.

On The Red Carpet caught up Richie at the All for the Hall concert in Downtown L.A., to ask why he wasn’t selected as a judge on the next season of American Idol.

“You know what, if I could just think of for a brief moment of staying home that long. I don’t know if I could stay in town that long. But I just told them, I said ‘Next time, just call me next time, ’ said Richie. “Ryan Seacrest and I hang so very little when we do get a chance to hang out. According to reliable inside sources, a new gay student has just been cast on Glee, and his name is:

Darren is a relative newcomer who starred in a handful of episodes of Eastwick…And just so happens to be pretty darn moppy-headed, and pretty darn easy on the eyes (and possibly separated at birth from Survivor’s Ethan Zohn). Sue Sylvester is sure to have a field day with this one.

Dancing’s Derek Hough: You Will See a New Side of Jennifer Grey

After Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough topped the Dancing with the Stars leaderboard last week with a 24, rumblings about the Dirty Dancing star’s so-called “dance experience” heated up again — an unfair dig at her, Hough tells TVGuide.com. “Would you ask Adrien Brody to play piano at Carnegie Hall? Or would you ask Hilary Swank to fight in a professional boxing match?” he says. “Jennifer learned to dance 23 years ago for that movie and she played a person who didn’t know how to dance. She wasn’t learning new routines and dancing live week in and week out. I can see why people think that, but they’re not the same.” In fact, the Emmy-nominated pro has a slightly more difficult path to a record third Mirrorball trophy as he must choreograph around Grey’s neck injury. Find out how he plans to do that and more.

  1. Avalon At Large – Go! seems to be a two-day dance music festival that was arranged on Thursday and Friday in Singapore: http://www.kulone.com/SG/Event/1031338-Avalon-At-Large-GO!-2-Days-Of-Dance-Music-Fest!!

I don’t think it had anything to do with Daughtry or Adam but for some reason they are using their photos in that article. Adam performed on Saturday and Sunday.

There have been reports that there were approximately 10,000 people listening to Daughtry and 20,000 people were there for Adam’s show on Saturday:

  2. ST’s a “style and trendsetter”? Not in this decade or the last, lol.

I haven’t been to the Texas State fair since we first moved here 8 yrs ago but might have gone to see Brooke if I’d known.

  3. Wow, 20,0000 people is a great way for Adam to kick off his international tour! Where is Daughtry going after this? I understand he is touring in several countries also.

  6. Thanks for the Daughtry tour dates. I would imagine he is popular in Germany and he is performing in some places where Adam will be in November. I see South Africa on the schedule, they seem to love idols there.

  7. All kinds of Idols already or headed overseas. Kris is packing for his USO tour — I assume they leave later today.

  8. Here are the actual tweets from Michelle Lewis about working with Lee:

Are there any hints as to when they will release his debut single? We’re in the single release zone for a mid-November album drop (generally 6-8 weeks prior).

According to the deadlines they’ve been given in the past couple of years, we should expect Lee to have finished recording his album by Oct 11th which is just two weeks away (they need 4-6 weeks to mix everything and make the final list of songs). Should see lots of info coming out in the next couple of weeks (the track list will likely come out in early November).

  9. Beautiful photos of Adam and Daughtry but what’s with the no mention or photos of Mariah Carey?
Let’s keep all the idols in our prayers as they travel the world.

  10. All kinds of Idols already or headed overseas. Kris is packing for his USO tour — I assume they leave later today.

I wish they could have arranged a few peformances outside the USO tour since Lifehouse is already over there and Daughtry is coming. I remember Lifehouse have local acts as openers. It would be nice exposure if Kris could have gotten a couple of shows or a radio mini-tour.

  11. Hurray for Adam and Daughtry in Singapore. The pics are amazing. They must both be so excited for their overseas tours! And Kris playing to the troops is amazing!

Beautiful photos of Adam and Daughtry but what’s with the no mention or photos of Mariah Carey?

I read a review/blog this morning that gave a big thumbs down to Mariah. It talks a bit about Adam too.

    http://www.gowithbo.info/travel-blog/2010/09/adam-lambert-is-the-star-but-mariah-disappoints-at-f1-shows.html

  12. http://www.gowithbo.info/travel-blog/2010/09/adam-lambert-is-the-star-but-mariah-disappoints-at-f1-shows.html

Glad to see both Daughtry and Adam got some good reviews and both from the videos I have see, did a great job. I think that long flight from the US was hard on all of the acts, but it seems that it affected Mariah the most, alone with the humidity. But when it’s all said and done, she’s getting paid a lot of money to give a good performance., probably more than either Adam or Daughtry

  13. Yes it is too bad that they could not set something for Kris & lifehouse overseas. Just got my tickets to see them in Dallas in Nov. So cool that I will be able to see Allison, Adam & Kris all at the same venue. Youtubed Mariah F1 videos review was right yikes.

  14. I wish they could have arranged a few peformances outside the USO tour since Lifehouse is already over there and Daughtry is coming. I remember Lifehouse have local acts as openers. It would be nice exposure if Kris could have gotten a couple of shows or a radio mini-tour.

The USO pays for the trip (I assume), and it’s for the troops. Anything commercial would have top be a separate trip.

  15. This tweet seems a little ominous — I hope this doesn’t mean Jive’s bailing on Elevator already :( Could be I’m reading too much into it, though

AOLRadio So for you Archie fans: Now that you’ve heard the CD, what should be his next single after ‘Elevator’?

  16. AOLRadio So for you Archie fans: Now that you’ve heard the CD, what should be his next single after ‘Elevator’?

That’s AOLRadio trying to drum up interest and get hits. It has nothing to do with Jive. I craft tweets like that all the time.

  17. This tweet seems a little ominous — I hope this doesn’t mean Jive’s bailing on Elevator already Could be I’m reading too much into it, though

I think this is just AOL radio keeping in touch with Archie’s fans. Based on the tweets that AOL radio sends out, the Archie fans send them a lot of messages.

I think the problem that Elevator is having is due to David just not getting enough promotion. It’s not about the song, it’s about PDs not wanting to play a song from someone who’s relatively unknown, and who’s, according to their limited view, main claim to fame was being on AI. I think Kris is facing the same problem.

I wish they could have arranged a few peformances outside the USO tour since Lifehouse is already over there and Daughtry is coming. I remember Lifehouse have local acts as openers. It would be nice exposure if Kris could have gotten a couple of shows or a radio mini-tour.

I don’t think LLWD or TT were released to too many European countries, so I don’t see the point of doing any regular tour stops. I’ve seen very little evidence that points to Sony/Jive having plans to promote Kris in Europe, or any place outside of the US. Based on how things are currently going, they need to use all of their resources to promote him here.

  18. That’s AOLRadio trying to drum up interest and get hits. It has nothing to do with Jive. I craft tweets like that all the time.

    Now thats good news.

  19. Re: Mariah- The Morning Mashup on Sirius has a vid of Mariah falling on stage at the concert. All kinds of awkward getting her back up:

    http://moremashup.com/video-mariah-carey-slips-on-stage

Also- a paper in Peoria ( I believe) did an article on a kid who won a drawing contest- one of the portraits was of Adam that he had signed at the concert, and I guess it was a pretty big hit:

    http://www.morrisdailyherald.com/articles/2010/09/27/17688422/index.xml

“But it was perhaps the drawing of singer and American Idol star Adam Lambert that garnered the most attention among his submissions. The large drawing with its piercing eyes and realistic sense seemed to draw viewers to it. Lambert’s emotions can almost be felt by the expression in his eyes in the drawing.”

oops! saw renaata beat me to it!. loved the article and the drawing!

I’ve noticed, whether it’s stars from Idol or not, that when American acts tour overseas, the majority of them have local acts opening for them. It help cut cost not having to bring your own opening act, especially for up and comings stars.

  22. Based on how things are currently going, they need to use all of their resources to promote him here.

Yes. Poor, pitiful Kris. Over before it all started. We should send out one of those Viking ships and set copies of KATA on fire as a symbol of mourning.

*Pours some coffee on the floor for those Idols who couldn’t make it*

    :-(

  23. From what I understand, the USO pays for transportation and lodging, but Kris and the KAB are donating their time for the troops. So proud to be a fan!

  24. Yes. Poor, pitiful Kris. Over before it all started. We should send out one of those Viking ships and set copies of KATA on fire as a symbol of mourning.

No, not pitiful Kris. It’s more like Kris’ album being one of the best debut albums from someone from AI, but a mass audience not getting to hear it, because of a lack of promotion, and because Jive released the wrong song as a second single. Everyone perceives things differently, but the numbers for the album, units sold for The Truth, as well as The Truth’s performance on radio can’t be disputed. None of those things means that Kris’ career is over, but they I do think that they point to Kris needing more mainstream promotion.

  25. Sorry, Elliegrll. I was trying to be cheeky and it went over like a lead balloon. My apologies.

  26. Proud of ALL the folks from idol who have done USO tours. good luck to Kris.

  27. None of those things means that Kris’ career is over, but they I do think that they point to Kris needing more mainstream promotion.

Could not agree more!! Kris…Archuleta…Jordin… are we seeing a pattern here??

  28. Proud of ALL the folks from idol who have done USO tours.

    Absolutely!!

  29. From what I understand, the USO pays for transportation and lodging, but Kris and the KAB are donating their time for the troops. So proud to be a fan!

You are correct. For performance tours here is what the USO covers.
    1. The USO covers all travel expenses related to the tour and typically flies talent on commercial aircraft.

    2. The USO provides all production support including lighting, audio, staging and backline for performances. Shows can take place in aircraft hangars, gymnasiums, sports centers, theatres and outdoor venues.

    3. The USO provides accommodations on base or off base in the highest quality hotels available.

    4. When traveling with the USO, each tour participant receives $50 per day for stateside appearances and $125 per day for overseas tours.

    5. The USO provides autograph sheets, tour posters, swag, military base clearances, itineraries and assistance in obtaining passports/visas. (The sale of artists’ merchandise is prohibited on USO tours.)

  30. It’s more like Kris’ album being one of the best debut albums from someone from AI, but a mass audience not getting to hear it, because of a lack of promotion

I actually thought that Kris has been getting a ton of promotion through this entire process. He got TV, radio, jingle balls early in the process, he’s done some nice one-off gigs, he’s opened for some very well-known Artists, he’s done a mini tour where he has played at lots of clubs and well-known hang-outs.

I don’t think anyone dropped the ball for Kris. The singles choices may not have been the fan choices but he did get videos for each and some nice radio promo.

From this point forward (now that we have a new idol champ releasing material) it is up to Kris to keep his name and music out in front of the buying populace. A singer has to rely on his own skill sets once the dew dries off of the rose.

  31. From this point forward (now that we have a new idol champ releasing material) it is up to Kris to keep his name and music out in front of the buying populace. A singer has to rely on his own skill sets once the dew dries off of the rose.

That may be true for most artists but this is AI & 19. Kris can’t sneeze without getting approval from 19 to wipe his nose. :-)

  32. I actually thought that Kris has been getting a ton of promotion through this entire process. He got TV, radio, jingle balls early in the process, he’s done some nice one-off gigs, he’s opened for some very well-known Artists

ITA. No doubt Jive made a TERRIBLE decision releasing TT as a single..It is a lovely album cut but not a summer radio single (and then they bungled the video etc.) But KATA got lots of initial promo — mini GMA concert, performances on lots of late night and talk shows, etc etc…then two performances on AI (granted one was for charity, but it still put kris front and center and back in the mind of AI viewers), kris was in high profile ford commercials, was performing solo and corporate gigs as soon as the idol tour was over, did lots and lots and lots of radio promo and performed at jingle balls, had a hit single in LLWD, has been touring and opening for big names….and still the cd dropped out of BB200 relatively quickly…for whatever reason KATA never really took off. But it wasn’t for lack of promo on Jive’s part.

and of course none of this means that kris will not have another successful single from KATA (assuming jive releases one), or that the next cd and subsequent singles will not do well.

  33. I think that both Kris’s album and his tour hasn’t gotten enough promotion and Jive made a big mistake with the choice of the second single and the way they handled it(especially the late video). I agree that right now it is better for his label to promote him mainly in the US(I think that they should have promote LLWD in more countries and it would have been more beneficial to do international gigs if his singles would have been released in more countries).

I think that it’s great that Kris is doing the USO tour. And good luck to Adam and daughtry on their international tours :).

  34. I actually thought that Kris has been getting a ton of promotion through this entire process. He got TV, radio, jingle balls early in the process, he’s done some nice one-off gigs

There’s no such thing as too much promotion. It’s not about doing one radio show or a dozen, or one tv show or a dozen, it’s about having a continuous presence. Everything is important and necessary, tv appearances, articles, radio play, radio concerts, etc. I won’t even go into Kris not performing LLWD in front of a nationwide tv audience when the song was at its peak, or only having one performance of TT in front of a nationwide audience, because for any artist, it’s about the accumulation of all of the promotion that they receive. Daughtry was on at least three shows over the past two weeks, and they had a promotional event at the Grammy museum, I don’t think anyone would say that was too much promotion.

  35. I dunno about these X-Factor judge rumors. If those are really going to be the judges, I’ll stick with Idol. Cheryl Cole is pretty much unknown in the States, and Nicole Scherzinger is basically known as “the head Pussycat Doll”. If the talent they’re searching for on X-Factor is akin to the judges they plan on having, it’s just championing more disposable, sex-over-substance ridiculata acts. Didn’t think we needed more of those….

  36. NZ seems really excited about his concerts, it’s a good interview.

Great interview, if short. Does Adam have one or two concerts in NZ? I had heard there might be two but I only see one on eweflyers chart.

  37. The whole “oh Kris got no promotion” thing I will never understand. He got plenty of promo, Idol appearances, SYTYCD, had the biggest debut single out of all the male AI winners, Ford commercials that ran all the time, opened for some huge names. Other than screwing up his 2nd single what should have been done? I dont think a better 2nd single would have worked miracles for his album.

  38. The whole “oh Kris got no promotion” thing I will never understand.

It’s not about “Kris didn’t get any promotion”, it’s about Kris needing to continue to be promoted. That would be the case with any artist. His tour didn’t have three telephone news conferences, and he’s been out of the mainstream eye for a few months, that added with not having a radio presence, is not good in terms of album sales or getting radio to play any future singles.

  39. I might have missed it….do we know who is producing Lee’s album?

  40. LLWD was not only not performed on idol, but it was not even mentioned(and the first performance on idol was not about promoting the album and he didn’t performed a song form the album)- so it definitely wasn’t even remotely the best promotion that the album could have gotten from idol. LLWD is a big hit and sold more than 1.5m copies, but many times it takes more than just 1 hit in order to make the album to continue to sell. This is also why making the wrong decision about a second single also hurt the album.
Kris did get some great gigs, but that doesn’t mean he has gotten much or enough promo.

  41. No artist gets continuous promotion for the run of their album. What seems pretty standard is that there is a big initial push and lots of promo for the first single and album release—but then everything does slow down and then radio needs to kick in. It is not the norm for every single released to get some kind of national promo. Kris got a huge amount of promo out the gate. Jive picked a crappy second single, but the guy has gotten more exposure than most (and a heck of a lot more exposure than most HAC acts get).

I found his CD (which I did buy long ago, mainly because I like Kris) kind of boring. It didn’t connect with me (and I like a lot of singer-songwriter, HAC stuff), maybe it just didn’t connect with others.

  42. No artist gets continuous promotion for the run of their album.

True, but it’s still my belief that he needs more promotion, not just for the album, but mainly for himself. The heavy promotion does occur when an album is first released, but while it slows down, it doesn’t stop.

I found his CD (which I did buy long ago, mainly because I like Kris) kind of boring.

Other people can’t make this decision for themselves it they don’t know that Kris or the album exist, which is why promotion is important. And I may get jumped for this, but I have no idea what singer/songwriter stuff is. JMO, not a knock at you are anyone else, but I’ve always found that to be a lazy label. Does it cover India Arie and Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Rob Thomas and Match Box 20, what about Maroon 5 Or John Legend? That label seems to cover a whole lot of music.

  43. LOL, well, my definition of “singer-songwriter” is the WGWG (girl or guy). And, I love a lot of that stuff. I guess people can feel free to define it however they like.

Honestly, I think Kris is getting about as much promo as a typical HAC act gets (one currently without a major radio hit). Also, it isn’t all about Jive making things happen. Other outlets need to be interested enough in Kris to reach out to him.

This past summer was a tough time for any act not releasing a lead-off single (or charting top 10 on CHR) to get promo. All the hot prime time shows are in reruns. Basically, It is incredibly competitive in the music scene right now.

But that’s because he was never able to create much interest in him. He had the opportunities, he just isn’t an artist that people seem to invest on and that means he won’t get the same opportunities that other artist who are more charismatic and produce better results have. He got a lot of good promo, he got a lot of airplay, if people don’t want to put money on his music of his live shows… maybe it’s just a problem of him not connecting with the audience.
I can understand Taylor Hicks fans complaining about lack of promotion, but not with Kris.

  45. I think 19/JIVE/RCA, all do a good job of getting the Idols promotion, but after a while the Idols themselves need to do their part with some self-promotion. They need to take advantage of all opportunities to showcase their talents before a National audience. A good performance on TV can give you a bump in sales and hopefully a invite to come back.

  46. Oooooo I smell a fan war brewing. I’m already editing posts. I will stop this conversation if it becomes contentious and/or repetitive.

ETA: And now I just saw that the acronym “WGWG” was introduced into this fan war. My eyes are glazing over.

Seriously peeps…we’ve been here before. Let’s not go back

  47. What is Simon thinking with Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger both as judges?!? Nicole has not looked terribly impressive on the X-Factor, and she certainly isn’t a household name who is going to draw in viewers. I don’t think Cheryl will have the same appeal in the U.S. that she has in Britain either. One thing Simon has actually demonstrated over the years is that he doesn’t fully understand American culture, and this choice of judges just demonstrates that to me.

I found his CD (which I did buy long ago, mainly because I like Kris) kind of boring. It didn’t connect with me (and I like a lot of singer-songwriter, HAC stuff), maybe it just didn’t connect with others.

I do like Kris a great deal – as a person, as a talent and as an AI contestant – but honestly, the album leaves me kind of cold as well.

But then, to be honest, most AI Winner’s 1st post-idol albums are excercises in compromise, mired in mediocrity, with flashes of brilliance. I will say that for me, his first single was stellar – an excellent choice by Jive.

For what it’s worth, IMO Daughtry has had the best 1 post AI album, by far.

  49. Honestly, I think Kris is getting about as much promo as a typical HAC act gets (one currently without a major radio hit). Also, it isn’t all about Jive making things happen. Other outlets need to be interested enough in Kris to reach out to him.

Actually, outside of radio promo, marketing and promoting an artist is done by the management, not the label. Organizations have to be open to wanting the artist, but that doesn’t mean that management sits around waiting for people to call them. If they notice that their artist is struggling because of a lack of name recognition, and not because they are not marketable, then it is up to them, and the artist, to do everything they can to get their artist some attention.

So based on your definition, a black male or female with a guitar is not a singer songwriter? So, even though Angel Taylor’s music leans more heavily HAC than Kris’ and even though she plays a guitar, since she’s black, her music doesn’t fit into the singer/songwriter category? I guess this is why the label makes no sense to me.

  50. People cannot buy an album that they don’t exist. Just like they cannot go to a show that they don’t know is happening. The job of management is to promote their artist and increase the chances of people knowing about the artist and their music.
Kris is very marketable(talented, good looking, funny, charming) and he released imo a wonderful album, but his management imo needs to do a better job of promoting his music.

  51. Kris got a ton of national promotion coming off the show and when his album and LLWD dropped. Outside of appearing on the AI finale and the release of the music video — which was mysteriously pulled after 4 weeks — he hasn’t gotten musch — if any — NATIONAL promotion for his 2nd single.

On the other hand, he has done a ton of LOCAL promotion tied in to his touring (radio appearances, local newspaper stories, etc). He has built up a ton of goodwill with radio stations by doing all these gigs — and pretty much everyone who deals with him likes him. Which I assume could only be in his favor going forward.

So while “poor Kris” (either sincerely or sarcastically) is far from the truth, I think most people would agree that Jive/19 still did a poor job of capitalizing on the momentum he had going with LLWD.

I will say that Kris also needs to work on promoting himself more. He has improved in this area from when he first came off AI, but he still seems a little reluctant to promote himself as much or as hard as he probably needs to.

  52. From FB: This bulletin just in: My daughter is on a flight with Kris Allen (of American Idol fame)!

    Bulletin — LOL

  53. From FB: This bulletin just in: My daughter is on a flight with Kris Allen (of American Idol fame)!

    Bulletin — LOL

That’s adorbs. I saw a tweet once from a man who said he was sitting next to Adam on a flight. I always wonder if the Idols fly first class or coach!

Do you talk to them? Leave them alone? Stare? LOL! The guy in the Adam tweet mentioned speaking with him and how polite he was. But he didn’t mention the seat location!

  54. Ok, I have no idea who Angel Taylor is—never heard of him. To clarify, I consider a “singer-songwriter” a person, any person, who sings and plays guitar on a song he/she has written; kind of in the vein of James Taylor. I didn’t know my casual definition was going to be dissected.

Like I said, it’s my definition. Other people might feel differently.

I agree! But, unfortunately, nobody else wants to talk about that today. Oh well. :(

  56. Re: Kris’ promotion

Go to the Jive website. http://www.jiverecords.com/
    1) Nothing about Kris’ tour while others are listed. 2) On his own page, his bio stops with him preparing for the 2009 Idol tour and writing his album. 3) On the “hot tracks” none of his songs are listed. 4) They do include TT video when you go to the video tab, but that’s the only place other than his own page that he is promoted. 5) He is also not featured on the Sony website as a Sony related artist. Granted, few people go to this website for artist information, but this was linked to sites such as Ryan Seacrest’s site. More importantly, it indicates the level of support he is getting from Jive.

    On his official website.
1)His bio used to be the same as is currently on Jive, but was updated a few weeks ago after constant complaints. 2) The site does not clean out “trolls” who post there criticizing Kris and saying how much better Adam is. 3) The site lists Kris’ news about 3-4 weeks after fans have discussed it elsewhere. 4)The webmaster does not interact with fans or answer questions. There was never an apology or explanation for TT mess.

    Tour.
    1) Little promo was done advertising locations for his headlining tour. Fans got tired of seeing tweets like, “I would have gone if I had known Kris was in town…” Often venues cited the old information from his bio in advertising as that was all they had. Fans were the ones that tried to keep up and give them current information and talk about his album. 2)His merchandise, CD, was not always for sale at the venue, especially at the Jingle Balls. 3) At the venue where I was, there were a few for sale at $ 15.00, compared to a much cheaper price for other artists there.

    Stores.
    1) His CD was very difficult to find in stores last Christmas. Fans reported not being able to find it. As I stated in the numbers thread, SuBo’s album (another Sony artist) was everywhere. Americans are impulse shoppers and sales suffered.

    Television & AI.
    1) Kris did make a lot of appearances right after the album was released. However, that was during the holidays and shoppers who may have been encouraged to buy had a hard time finding his CD in stores. 2) We all understand about the AI “bump.” When Kris was on AI the first time to sing “Let It Be,” Ryan interviewed him about his trip to Haiti and said his performance was touching. That was appropriate, but Kris or the song was never mentioned again – and the sales were for charity. Just a few words would have increased sales – it did alright, but it could have been so much better. 3) Kris or his album or his tour were never mentioned on AI, even when it would have been natural to do so. It became a sad joke that Kris was “he who should not be named.” Ryan introduced him on the finale as the current AI singing “TT.” Not that it was his single from his album or anything about his tour. 4) His performance on the finale was cut short – in order to make time for other artists – whose tours and records were pimped. 5) When Kris is on TV, people love him. He won the award from Regis & Kelley as most-liked newbie. 6) No national appearances for TT – other than the shortened version on AI. 7) TT video was pulled from Vh1 while it was still in the top 10 videos and the song was charting – for no explanation. I’ve kept track and sales increased dramatically after it was shown each Saturday. So, why pull it? Some say because they are preparing for a 3rd single. Then pull it the day before the single is released. Why stop sales now?

    Radio
    1) Kris has done a gazillion gigs at private radio shows. The DJs love him, but they don’t decide what music to spin – the PDs do. It remains a mystery how the PDs decide. They do not always take requests or play what the public wants. I do not want to make accusations when I have only suspicion and no proof. 2) TT dropped like a stone, again, for reasons that remain unknown.

His management has an unparalleled opportunity to promote Kris in Arkansas and the South. If I were his promoter, I would strike a deal with WalMart, an Arkansas company that promotes “buying American.” Instead, WalMart doesn’t even stock his CD in many of its stores in the South. In a marketing survey, Kris was well above average for a celebrity in trust, reliability, and being “down to earth.” That’s why the Ford commercials. If I were his promoter, I would take advantage of this and strike deals with Chick-Fil-A, Wheat Thins, and other brands that he advertises all the time just by being Kris. He does their advertising but I don’t see a reciprocal help with his sales.

I love Kris’ album. It definitely connects with me. It seems that fans worry about Kris much more than Kris worries about himself, however. We see things he does not seem to see or care about. I think he would hate it that I have even mentioned the things I have. He always takes the high road. I wish I could. Perhaps we fans are sensitive. The thing is, all of the things I mentioned above would take little to no budget – just people doing their job like they should. But, he will continue to do well because he is Kris. Most of the world wants $uccess. Kris has stated over and over that all he wants is to be able to make a comfortable living so he can do what he loves – make music and “give back.” He has taught me a lot.

Thanks girlygirl- this is what I think is really important, that Kris has built up a rapport with radio DJ’s & other successful artists . From what I read about the concerst he did – there were many who were so surprised at what a great performer he is.
I’m happy if Kris is happy & he seems to be really enjoying what he is doing & he has found a great group of friends in his band!!
Kris may never be a “superstar”[ but that word is bandied around so much- there are only a few true superstars anyway] but he is getting to do what he loves & as a Kris fan I am grateful for that. I am also grateful to You Tube & fans that post videos as that’s the only way I can get to see his performances!!
I don’t think Kris will change much how he promotes himself. He is what he is – & on a personal level he is definitely winning many friends on most fronts – which will help him in the long run- even if he doesn’t pamper to the media scrum, who seem to love something to gossip about- he’s too genuine for that.

  58. Masieta- I agree that it’s easy to fix many of the things that you mentioned and I wish that they would actually fix it.
While it’s true that Kris is living his dream and is happy, Kris did said that he wants to be able to perform in huge venues with many people who are signing along(I don’t remember the exact quote or interview) and for that to have a chance to happen his team needs to do a better job in promoting him and also choose and promote the right singles(they did great job with LLWD, but completely screwed up with TT).

  59. Judes and isn’t that one of the reason’s we love him so?Besides him being a wonderful talented singer and such a great all around guy.All I want from Kris is to keep hearing him sing for along time to come. And be able to see him in concert. As long as his making music I’ll keep buying it.To me his CD makes me so happy,I just love hearing his voice. When am sad all I have to do is listen to him sing and it makes me feel so great.I knew when hubby leaves to go overseas next month hearing Kris CD well make me feel better.

  60. Ok, I have no idea who Angel Taylor is—never heard of him.

Angel Taylor is a she. http://www.myspace.com/angeltaylor

I personally feel that labels & management are handling the same amount of clients but with less employees and some things are falling through the cracks. You see this happening a lot in regards to the upkeep of web sites (or lack of it). I’ve seen lots of balls being dropped in lost promo opportunities in the past year. (Ex. Come Back to Me video M.I.A. for 10 months.) You just hope that it’s not your artist getting the inferior support. The only thing we as fans can do is to keep bringing attention to the issues with anyone that will listen. That’s what finally was done regarding Cook’s video. Finally the right person was contacted that could actually do something about it. One & a half days after a fan sent out e-mails/messages to RCA, Sony, & others, the video was finally uploaded to Vevo. So keep doing what you’re doing. Hopefully someone will listen.

  61. when hubby leaves to go overseas next month hearing Kris CD well make me feel better.

What a comfort that is for you ilove KA- don’t forget all the other songs that aren’t on his album- eg like To Make You Feel My Love & Falling Slowly & Send Me All Your Angels [ only on Walmart versions]& The Brand New Shoes Songs!! Of course if you went through all the videos of Kris performaces over the last 18 months -that will keep you going until your hubby returns!!

  62. So true judes.Oh I’ll never forget those songs you mentioned there some of my favorities.I can also listen to them while am doing my Schooling online maybe his singing well give me alot of good luck.

  63. thanks Masieta (and other Kris’s fans) for those posts. Good info!

  64. Masieta:

I don’t think the problems with Kris’s official site are unique.
Danny’s is not great either. When it first went up tons of trolls from ONTD flooded it with ribald comments (it was a little entertaining to be honest ) and it took the mod more than a week to clean it up. The info is never as complete or current as his main fan site. And there is a nested reply problem that has never been fixed after a year, despite multiple emails and comments to the mod!!! :( You can only reply to a main comment, not a reply. Fans go to a fan site to get Danny info; not his official site.
I’ve heard other fans complain about their official sites also (like Daughtry’s and Cooks).

As far as Kris’s CD being on sale for $15 at concert, that is pretty good, IMO- Danny’s are $20 and I wish they would sell them cheaper.
Danny fans also complained a lot about the availability of his CD when it first came out, going to multiple stores to find it. I was told here that is a common problem for all AI artists.

Radio- Kris isn’t alone there either; a lot of artists do a ton of radio promo stuff and they never spin the record.

I’m not a big Kris fan so I feel a little more objective.

I do think he was screwed on the finale. They Goofed up the intro and just really didn’t give him the introduction and PR he deserved.

Also agree about him not singing his LLWD single (although it was already doing really well, it could have helped sell albums).

He has received a lot of other good national PR, but he should have since he is the AI winner.

I know he has less now; but how long do they keep giving national PR to former winners? It will be interesting to see how much Lee even gets.

  65. Kris was in my hometown not long ago. I didnt not even know about it untill I read it here the next morning. I was so mad so close and did not get to go see him! :(

  66. Two words: Joan Armatrading. Awesome black singer/songwriter. Not to mention Jack Johnson, who is what, half black half hawaiian? Something like that.
