The Pussycat Dolls singer and girlfriend of Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton, who made her debut as a guest judge on the show’s double bill this weekend, insists she was hired for her brains, not beauty.

Asked if Simon found her attractive she said: “I don’t think so. I think Simon respected me for coming in as an artist and standing up for what I feel.

Adam Lambert Y-Underground Interview

In this Q & A with Y-Underground, Adam talks about the Miami Beach pap incident, making the international tour set list a little longer. There probably won’t be another single off of FYE, but if there is, it will probably be “Sleepwalker”.

  1. AI people should also do the t-shirt thing, as people like to receive stuff for their charity. but one dollar per shirt? That sounds more like a sales trick than an actual charity.

  2. Ughh! Can anyone ever ask a question that isn’t nail polish or make up related? And of all the questions on chat those are the only ones interviewers pull?

  3. Ughh! Can anyone ever ask a question that isn’t nail polish or make up related? And of all the questions on chat those are the only ones interviewers pull?

My same thoughts. You´d think over 90% of questions, comment and answers were music related. Could it be that a large portion of his fans are more into his personal life than his music?

  4. No kidding. Adam is about so much more than just his make-up and nail polish. Surely there are more complex question to ask him. I bet those same old issues get boring for him.

I would agree with you if it wasn’t for the fact he has a platinum album and a sold out tour.

  6. Jason Castro did an interview with Christian Music Review – talks about 4 new releases on an album targeted for the Christian outlet:
    November 9th EP
    Album – Who I Am
Physical copy in Christian retail – full album comprised of 8 songs off the original album and 4 new songs – more spriritual that he wrote that didn’t go on the debut album.

  7. Could it be that a large portion of his fans are more into his personal life than his music?

He does have more than his share of BSC/overthetop fans.

  8. My same thoughts. You´d think over 90% of questions, comment and answers were music related. Could it be that a large portion of his fans are more into his personal life than his music?

No, I don’t think this is the case at all. Based on the fact that he seems to be doing pretty well in a tough market, I’d say people enjoy listening to his music, but he’s also a really friendly guy who seems like he’d be fun to chat with. What makes Adam stand out, IMO, is that in addition to being a pop singer, he’s also a personality. From the beginning, people have been fascinated with knowing more about him as a person. There truly are only so many questions you can ask about music before it starts getting technical. He’s been asked all those questions like his favorite songs to sing, thoughts behind lyrics, biggest influences, future album plans, etc. as much as he’s been asked all the other stuff. I think the deal is, he’s just so open and has been interviewed so many times that there’s not a whole lot more to ask at this time. Once he goes on the international leg of the tour, there will be some new angles, and definitely once he starts recording album #2. Anyway, those of us who hang on his every word are the only ones who are truly tired of hearing the same old same old. Every time he’s interviewed, the answers must be new to the people asking the questions, or they wouldn’t be asking them (if that makes any sense).

  9. I think that interviewers and fans will always ask artists about their personal lives, but the music related questions won’t start popping up more until an artist makes more of a name for himself as an artist. Right now, Adam is known more for other things aside from just his music, so those things will be the focus of the interviews. I don’t see that as being a problem, since it lets people know who he is, and he always has the option of working music related topics into the conversation. Right now, the other things are getting him spots on ET, other shows, and coverage in magazines.

  10. OMG, the part of Adam’s interview about throwing the first pitch was hilarious. I think he even blushed. LOL.

  11. Jason Castro did an interview with Christian Music Review – talks about 4 new releases on an album targeted for the Christian outlet:

What’s next for Castro the country market?

  12. Eriko:

Actually I saw many interesting music and career related questions asked in the chat but the interviewer selected the silly questions that had already been asked many times in the past.

  13. What’s next for Castro the country market?

I don’t follow Christian music, but is seems to me that Jason has always been somewhat involved/interested in that genre or associated with artists that are associated with it.

  14. I didn’t think Adam’s album had gone platinum in the US yet?

Anyhow – glad to see a good UK debut for The Script. I’ll have to pick that one up soon…

And interesting that little Joe from the X-Factor has his single coming out soon – and it’s a cover. If anyone had any doubt about how these shows work, they should follow the story of little Joe and his runner-up Olly Murs. Olly was, without any shadow of a doubt, Simon Cowell’s favourite. He has had far more publicity and actually has had a decent first single release, which has done well.
All I have heard from the uninitiated (those who watch the show, but have not fallen pray to the world of internet conspiracy theories) is how that Olly has done so well and how little Joe has just vanished and hasn’t done well at all. The fact that he hasn’t actually released anything yet, apart from the crappy winner’s single, has completely passed them by.

    Cowell’s hand at work.

It’s just so easy to see after watching several seasons of AI – and I don’t even like little Joe that much :lol

  15. Did anyone watch the live Ustream Q&A Adam just did? He said that he doesn’t think there will be another single off this album. It sounds like they really are focused on waiting to release new music in the spring.

Nice hat — Adam looked very cute. And haha at that 88-year-old lady not being the oldest fan Adam’s met — but she still got a hug

  16. yea, girlygirl, I watched it to. He said there probably won’t be another single because IIHU is still doing so well, but if there is another one it will be sleepwalker.
He also said they are adding songs for the international leg of the tour and making the set longer. Lucky international fans:-)

  17. I listened to the single for Joe and it is an ill fit for him. From what I heard of him on the show he was a contemporary ballad singer and the attempt to market him as a Pop star is doomed to fail.

  18. It’s my understanding that Jason is a dedicated Christian in his personal life, so it makes sense to me that he might release music in that format

  19. X Factor guest judge Nicole Scherzinger has told how Simon Cowell is a huge fan of her entire body… of work.

Well, she won’t know that Simon admired her work since she wore the tiniest bit of clothing. And she hardly say no to any of the contestants even when they were bad.

I guess my bias against her still showing after DWTS, but I guess I just root for Cheryl Cole…, I mean Cheryl’s contestants.

  20. I don’t know, Olly released one single so far and Joe is releasing his debut album on October 25th, I think.

The first name is the only one that I don’t know. Guy Sebastian is the winner of the first season of Australian Idol, Ronan and Natalia are both well known singers. Ronan is a member of Irish boyband Boyzone and a solo singer. Louis Walsh (X Factor UK judge) is his manager.

    Song Choices for this week:

10 Andrew Lawson “Don’t Stop the Music” (Rihanna)
11 India-Rose Madderom “Battlefield (Jordin Sparks song)” (Dusty Springfield)
12 Altiyan Childs “Hey Soul Sister” (Train)

    Umm, current much?

Isn’t it sad that after all that, still the producers has a bigger hand in “success”.
Poor Joe doesn’t even get a chance. And the producers make soooo much money out of all these contestants.

I think these things are not confined to the British shows only since we imports all those British producers here.

  22. I don’t know, Olly released one single so far and Joe is releasing his debut album on October 25th, I think.

Olly Murs is scheduled to release his solo album, Obsession, 11/15.

  23. Umm, current much?

Yeah, but the band in that video you posted sucks. Are they all that bad? Sorry, I’m not willing to forgo talent to get some more current music LOL!

Wow, look at this show’s judging panel:

    Kyle Sandilands

Natalie Imbruglia?!? Lol, and people want to act like J-Lo is washed up?! Sorry, I’m not seeing how this panel is impressive.

  24. I don’t know, Olly released one single so far and Joe is releasing his debut album on October 25th, I think.

Oh yeah – I’m just relaying the impression that many casual observers I’ve spoken to have: Olly has been a success; Joe has been a failure. And I’m talking about pretty much anyone who has mentioned it.

Now, I’m not invested in any way whatsoever. But this is definitely the Cowell publicity machine at work. Joe may well have an album out soon, but there has been pretty much zero publicity about it.

I didn’t think Adam’s album had gone platinum in the US yet?

Do you think RCA is going to care whether he sold 1,000,000 albums just in the US or a combination of countries with the US? How many people are selling a million copies of their albums these days? Album sales as it was reported just a couple of days ago are down from this time last year. So if you can get a platinum album these days, it’s nothing to sneer at. That’s my opinion of course, others might think different.

I didn’t think Adam’s album had gone platinum in the US yet?

Do you think RCA is going to care whether he sold 1,000,000 albums just in the US or a combination of countries with the US?

I don’t think the debate is what total sales are; just that the proper semantics of saying an album is “Platinum” refers to US sales.

Not to take anything away from his sales; they’re great, but as of now the platinum designation here refers to 1 million sales not 700k +

  27. I don’t think the debate is what total sales are; just that the proper semantics of saying an album is “Platinum” refers to US sales.

You are correct that 1m albums is platinum in the US. The proper semantics is that RCA refers Adam as a multiplatinum selling artist, considering he has an album and singles that are platinum in different countries.

  28. Sorry, I’m not willing to forgo talent to get some more current music LOL!

Hell.. I am. I didn’t think they were that bad.. at least they were on key. Really that much worse that S9 crew?

  29. I think Adam is doing extremely well and – in particular – has established very solid fanbases overseas (though not here in the UK, interestingly).

I am sure RCA is thrilled with the numbers and am equally sure that Adam has done enough with this first record to forge a solid base from which to expand with his next.

In Europe (minus the UK) and Japan especially, he has made a fantastic start. And he has really made a good start in the US as a live act. Who knows how far he may go in the future and more power to him.

I just don’t get why the semantics of needing to claim that he has a platinum album (which on a primarily US site, for a primarily US artist, would normally signify a US platinum album) when he, strictly speaking, doesn’t, is so important in this context. That’s all.

As it happens, I suspect that FYE will eventually go platinum – possibly after the release of album two – and then it won’t matter any more at all :lol

  30. He also said they are adding songs for the international leg of the tour and making the set longer. Lucky international fans:-)

    Great!

Not to take anything away from his sales; they’re great, but as of now the platinum designation here refers to 1 million sales not 700k +

Your right is you go by proper semantics, he doesn’t have platinum album in the States, just a worldwide platinum album. But looking at some of the other Idols sales, I think some of them would take some of those other sales outside the US and be grateful for it.

  32. David Archuleta sighting today:

“@karenmpeterson: So @DavidArchie visited my church today. He sat in the back. I think he was hoping no one would notice him. Silly boy.”

    Poor guy. . . .

  33. fadetowhite, I agree with you. Personally all I care about is how many units are sold overall in US and Internationally and touring because that’s were the $$$ is at. If RCA wants to call him multiplatinum artist on how they market him, well I won’t argue with them.lol

  34. Hell.. I am. I didn’t think they were that bad.. at least they were on key. Really that much worse that S9 crew?

Well, guess what, Simon Cowell has just the show for you filled with mediocre singers and cheesy top 40 music! I think you just have to wait until next fall. And yes, they were that much worse. They were not on key lol, and barely sang above a whisper.

  35. The problem if they don’t release another single off Adam’s album is if the new album takes much longer to produce than expected. I know he’s saying it might be out in the spring, but it could possibly be much longer than that, and I would hate to see him go too long without a single. I would expect that if there was another single it would be released in another month or two anyway, probably after he got back from Europe.

I’m hoping they do release Sleepwalker, I think it would make a terrific video.

  36. I’m hoping they do release Sleepwalker, I think it would make a terrific video.

Sleepwalker has always been my favorite – I would love to see a video of it.

  37. Yeah, but the band in that video you posted sucks. Are they all that bad? Sorry, I’m not willing to forgo talent to get some more current music LOL!

Well maybe if you are an Adam fan you won’t like this performance as its not Adam, but I saw this live on TV & thought their stripped back version was great – they have terrific harmonies. Guy is their mentor & apparently they were his backing singers at one stage
[ which has provided a bit of controversy] – so he thinks they definitely are talented – I think i’ll go with Guys opinion!!
Some of the song choices by the judges last night weren’t good & so didn’t help a few performers but there were some excellent performances. Yes its good to have more modern songs but they do have to suit the performer.Oh & the judges chose the outfits which didn’t always work either.

This was my favourite performance last night – both the song & how they sang it – a sisters duo- Kharizma-singing Alicia Keys- Empire State of Mind [ I’m a sucker for harmonies]

    http://au.tv.yahoo.com/x-factor/video/-/watch/21975319/kharizma/

Natalie Imbruglia?!? Lol, and people want to act like J-Lo is washed up?! Sorry, I’m not seeing how this panel is impressive.

Kyle is a radio DJ who was a judge on Australian Idol until he was famously sacked because of his antics on the radio programme. He also was recently separated from his wife who was in a group who won Pop Stars a few years back & she recently was on Dancing with the Stars. So its not surprising he isn’t known in the US but he certainly is here in Australia!!

“Song performed by celebrity guest: Mousetrap Heart (song) (Thirsty Merc) and Hello (The Potbelleez)”

Here’s Thirsty Merc[ I love them] new song Mousetrap- Rai [ lead singer] has a knack of writing catchy hooks in their singles.[ He was one of Guys helpers earlier on X Factor] Their latest album was produced by the same producer Maroon 5 has.

Thirsty Merc are a successful Aussie band – you may or may not have heard one of their previous hits-20 Good Reasons-

  38. I would expect that if there was another single it would be released in another month or two anyway, probably after he got back from Europe.

Wouldn’t it be too late to release a new single during the holidays due the winter freeze on radio.

  39. Well, guess what, Simon Cowell has just the show for you filled with mediocre singers and cheesy top 40 music! I think you just have to wait until next fall. And yes, they were that much worse. They were not on key lol, and barely sang above a whisper.

Excellent for me. I’ll be looking forward to it.. perhaps they’ll forego country music and oldies.

  40. JMHO — but after Adam almost killed WWFM before it peaked by saying that IIHY would be the next single (in an interview on 3/22/10) a month before WWFM peaked on the chart, he will not do anything that undermines IIHY until it peaks. So if they are planning another single from FYE, then he will not say it yet.

Here is what he said on Y100 — When asked by an audience member if there will be another single from FYE, Adam relied “As of now, I don’t think so actually. I — it’s gonna — I think they want to focus on building new material for the Spring. But there is a chance I guess. I think we have to see how long the shelf life is on “If I Have You”. And it’s doing really well right now and I love it. I don’t know.” He then when on to say that if there was a single it would “probably be Sleepwalker”.

I actually believe that RCA may not have decided yet. But I doubt that they have 100% ruled out another single because it make no sense to do that.

The big question is when will IIHY peak in the US? If it peaks within 2 weeks, then takes a slow ride down the chart, they may not have time for another US single without risking crowding the new album’s lead single. That is a problem if they want to start promoting the new album in Feb or March 2011 with a Spring 2011 lead single release.

  41. judes:
Well maybe if you are an Adam fan you won’t like this performance as its not Adam, but I saw this live on TV & thought their stripped back version was great – they have terrific harmonies.

I thought they did good…I always liked WWFM stripped down.

  42. Q3 – thanks for the actual quote. Like today, I didn’t have time to sit through the interview yet and that just happened to be the only tid bit I wanted to hear. Sounds like a timing thing more than anything else – who knows. If it all ends here until next year, I’ll be quite satisfied. I think he has had a damn good run of things in 2010.

  43. The way I see it, maybe Adam has not hit a million in sales for FYE album here in the US, however he has a platinum single here, and his album and single has gone platinum in several countries, some double platinum. So how can anyone say he is not therefore a multiplatinum artist? He has been certified platinum here and abroad.

  44. If it peaks within 2 weeks, then takes a slow ride down the chart, they may not have time for another US single without risking crowding the new album’s lead single.

I think after it peaks it will plummet pretty quick. Unlike WWFM it didn’t pick up stations slowly. They seemed to come on board in more clusters. Plus, I don’t think this one has sticking power. Its a typical pop song, enjoyable for the moment… then well.. its done.

But I thought it was pretty much a guarantee that there would be another single, right?

  46. Aaron Kelly tweeted at me and I almost had a heart attack after reading it OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

….A part of me wants one more single from FYE. And Sleepwalker was actually the song I would’ve wanted. Of the songs on the album, I think it’s a great follow up to IIHY. Of the ballads, it seems like the most radio-friendly. Soaked and A Loaded Smile don’t seem suited for radio (Though I do love Soaked).

  47. The problem if they don’t release another single off Adam’s album is if the new album takes much longer to produce than expected.

If Adam keeps getting media attention this won’t be a major issue. Just as long as his name keeps popping up in the mainstream, he’ll be fine.

  48. But looking at some of the other Idols sales, I think some of them would take some of those other sales outside the US and be grateful for it.

Well they probably would like them if they had been promoted outside the US, but most were not. Totally unfair to compare his out of country sales with someone who has gone multi-platinum in the US only because of no promotion outside of the US.

  49. The proper semantics is that RCA refers Adam as a multiplatinum selling artist,

If they said that, they told a lie, unless they mean multiplatinum in Canada (in which case, it’s “huh?). There is a difference in meaning between multiplatinum and multiple platinum. Multiplatinum means having selling multiple platinum of an album or a single. If someone sells multiple platinum albums (i.e. many albums that sell platinum but not multiplatinum), he or she is not a multiplatinum selling artist.

ETA – if they don’t release Sleepwalker, then we’ll have to consider releasing IIHY a mistake – it’s to me an obviously far inferior song to Sleepwalker.

  50. ETA – if they don’t release Sleepwalker, then we’ll have to consider releasing IIHY a mistake – it’s to me an obviously inferior song to Sleepwalker.

I can’t believe RCA will just ignore the potential money from Sleepwalker. It would probably be bigger than IIHY and possibly even bigger than WWFM, IMO.

  51. Wouldn’t it be too late to release a new single during the holidays due the winter freeze on radio.

That’s what I’m saying. By the time they would be ready to make a new single and that Adam would be available to promote something would probably be after the holidays, because of the tour. If they are sure about the release date it should be ok. It is just that if it takes much longer than that, I would think it would better to still release something else.

  52. They should just release sleepwalker, already. The song is awesome and it wouldn’t need a lot of promotion to make it sell, just get the radio adds and the song will sell itself! I really believe this could be a #1 hit, just as Amy Mayo predicted!

  53. Sleepwalker always struck me as the song with the most smash potential. But its smashiness (heh) may depend on what else is out at the time.. I don’t think there will be any other midtempo like it around.

  54. What surprises if they really don’t release Sleepwalker other than its big hit potential is I’d have thought Ryan Tedder would have the leverage to get a guaranteed single just like Dr. Luke/Claude Kelly/Max Martin.

Then again no matter how big the hit potential the fact is still that hit singles cost $$$$ and if RCA isn’t going to shell out $$$$ to promote another single off FYE it’s better all around if they save their pennies for the lead single from Adam’s next album.

  55. Ughh! Can anyone ever ask a question that isn’t nail polish or make up related? And of all the questions on chat those are the only ones interviewers pull?

I missed most of the convo about this but I just watched the interview and I have to agree with this. I rolled my eyes at the girl who asked him why he didn’t win AI. I think it was the same girl who told the interviewer at the beginning that she wished he had won. It just amazes me people are still hung up on that when over a year has gone by. I just want to say “get over it!”

  56. Batgirl478:

I agree that they should stop asking him about AI. I don’t think they should bring it up anymore for either him or Kris, either. They both have their own careers now.

  57. They’re never going to stop asking him about AI. That just isn’t going to happen.

I don’t think IIHY sold enough downloads to warrent another single unless they had a sure fire smash on their hands. And if you look at the best selling digital songs, they’re all getting played on rythmic. It also doesn’t make much sense to release a song from one album when you’re putting out another album in 6 months. Save the promo $ to support a single to sell that album.

  58. I agree that they should stop asking him about AI. I don’t think they should bring it up anymore for either him or Kris, either. They both have their own careers now.

Yep, I agree. And I would assume they’re both pretty happy with the way their lives and careers are going. So I just wish the fans would be happy too but I’m sure there will always be some that can’t let it go.

  59. I think the following songs are potential hits:
    SW
    FEVER
    PUU
    AFTERMATH
    STRUT
    MUSIC AGAIN
    SFW
    CLYG
Too bad lirycs are kind of risky. But, as you can notice, I love the whole CD.

  60. I just don’t see how Adam is going to have an album out next spring. His international schedule looks insane and takes him up to Nov/Dec (I think). He has said several times now that he hasn’t started work on it yet. How does he possibly accomplish this? And get it right?

I really wish they would just release Sleepwalker (I honestly think it has the most “hit potential” and universal appeal) and push the album to late summer release with the lead off single in May or June.

  61. Well IIHY seems like it might be peaking now on Pop, and I don’t see it being the big, long time HAC song that WWFM was, and it certainly don’t see it fitting on AC at all. So I think the song might have a pretty strong fade in a few weeks. So that is still mid October, and they haven’t even started recording this album, and won’t until next year, because Adam is on tour until December. And it doesn’t look like IIHY will get too much past gold, which isn’t horrible, and certainly better than I thought the song could do.

but I just think SW could do better, and especially in fall/winter. No guarantees of course, but I think it could do better than IIHY will have been able to. And it has, like WWFM, potential to do well in different formats, and have some staying power like WWFM.

And Adam’s record while scheduled for spring, might not be released then, they might push it back, and so the prime time to release SW will have passed.

Of course still, they might just consider that they want to concentrate on the next single in spring? But given Adam’s touring schedule, and not being able to even record until like January, I just wish they would find it a good business decision to release SW say late October.

But I’m saying this as a fan, which I know isn’t how the music business sees things. Darns it.

  62. IIHY has done well, but if it isn’t peaking now, it certainly will be in the next couple weeks. And while it’s gotten great updates on HAC, I think it is going to hit a roadblock there fairly soon. As well as the song has done, WTMX (The Mix, Chicago) is not moving to add it. Are there other big markets that seem reluctant?

Basically, WWFM is the only radio presence he’s going to have if no other single is released (since I don’t see IIHY getting spins after it peaks) to carry him through until next spring. He is going to have to get a single out by March.

  63. Sleep walker is my favorite since day one, I still listen to it on daily basis. Although I don’t think any songs from FYE can do his voice justice, but at least SW is amazing live, I want so bad that it get released and performed on national TV. RCA, are you listening?

  64. Truthiness, that’s what I think too. It would be better to plan on releasing something, especially Sleepwalker. ANd that will give them plenty of time if the cd takes longer than they think.

  65. I don’t know why they didn’t release Sleepwalker either. As someone who’s pretty indifferent to Adam’s music, it’s that song that is still on my i-pod from the album. Clearly it’s going to appeal to his fans, but it had potential to go beyond, I’d have thought…

  66. What you HOPE for, what you think SHOUD be, and what what will actually happen are (often) three completely different things.

  67. As someone who’s pretty indifferent to Adam’s music, it’s that song that is still on my i-pod from the album.

Yeah, I downloaded a few songs from the album and WWFM was one, Sleepwalker was another. Those were the two that I thought could be big hits. Sleepwalker is a major ear worm!

  68. What you HOPE for, what you think SHOUD be, and what what will actually happen are (often) three completely different things.

Heh, don’t David Cook fans know THAT well :)

  69. At his Grammy Museum Q&A the other night, the first few questions Chris Daughtry was asked had to do with AI. So I don’t know if Adam will ever stop being asked questions about it (maybe after the show is no longer on the air?)

As for more singles, I am no longer confident that Adam, Kris or Danny is going to get another single off their debut CD. I hope all of them do, but I won’t be surprised if this doesn’t happen for any of them

Preach it! Remember when we were CONVINCED that RCA was going to release a third single from DCTR? And of course it would finally be a cook-penned song, to establish his songwriting cred. Oh, and his album was going to be released in the Spring of 2010 to capitalize on his buzz? We were so naive. LOL.

IMO TPTB are fools if they don’t release Sleepwalker. A. because it is a great, hooky song and could kill it on the radio, and B. because even if it doesn’t sell a ton of downloads, it would keep his visibility up until the next album release.

That’s what I think too. And for the same reason. I mean, last fall David was saying he would go into the studio in January and have the album out in April, then June, and now, it doesn’t look like it will be out until early next year. And I think it is just taking longer than he expected for whatever reasons. But in the meantime, he hasn’t had a single come out in over a year.

Now, I realize Adam is a different type of artist, but given that he will be on tour until the end of the year as well, it is possibly that his album will be delayed. Although, I did read that songs are being written for Adam, and he is doing some recording while in Europe. So the timeframe might be shorter because he isn’t doing as much writing. And Adam doesn’t play any intruments either. But still, it would be almost 6 months without a new single, even if it is released in the spring.

Yeah, unfortunately…Adam’s comments and timeframe for the tour and the sophomore sound so familiar, it’s like turning the clock back one year… sigh…
But them going ahead with the Live EP is encouraging though, because it doesn’t make sense to release it without a single to promote it.. unless it is IIHY and they believe that it still has quite a bit of life, or they release the EP very soon..or …well, we’ll have to see…

  73. I also think Sleepwalker is an album seller, much like, imo, September is for Daughtry right now. With the holidays coming, it would seem that the timing would be perfect…
