‘American Idol’: Contestants open up about ‘big balancing act’ of juggling producers’ opinions

Reinhart, who has been in the bottom three four times this season, admits it can all be too much.

“There are a lot of opinions and it can eat you up. A lot of them are contradictory, and that’s the part that gets me, ” she said. “You have to meet in the middle and do what you feel as well. It can be tough, but we’re getting through it.”

McCreery, who has gotten plenty of criticism for being too ballad-heavy, said he changed his arrangement of King’s classic “You’ve Got a Friend” from an upbeat one back to a ballad, as “everyone was giving their opinion.”

“They always tell us that it’s our choice. They are very nice about it, ” he said. “It’s like, ‘It’s your choice, but here’s my opinion.’ ”

Melinda Doolittle rates the ‘American Idol’ Carole King Night for HitFix

Carole King is my hero! When you can write song so well that anyone sounds good singing them, you automatically achieve hero status. Wow! This was an amazing night on Idol. At this point, it’s anybody’s game. I loved the feedback that Jimmy Iovine and Babyface gave the contestants this week. I think they are really taking time to bring out the artistry (as Kara DioGuardi would say) in each contestant. So here are my thoughts about each contestant tonight. I’ve put them in order from most favorite to least favorite. I even critiqued the duets. Well…most of them. :-) Let me know if you agree.

Blake Lewis: ‘Haley and Casey Have Great Chemistry, James Has My Vote’

I was really impressed with three people — James, Haley and Casey. Each of their performances was unique.

James got my vote, last night, singing “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.” It was beautiful and J.Lo said it best: He is consistent every week. The arrangement of this piece was just amazing! I really liked hearing his tone by itself at the beginning. It was heartfelt and really showed the sensitivity of his voice.

A Guide to How You’ll Feel If Each of the American Idol Contestants Wins

An American Idol victory can inspire a whole host of emotions: Sometimes, you’re thrilled that the right person won (Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia); other times, you’re simply indifferent (Jordin Sparks); and once in a while, you struggle to even remember the winner’s name (we’re certain that a Lee Something won Idol at some point … help us out here?). But how will we feel when one of Idol’s six current contestants takes the prize, and can any of them inspire us to actual anger? Vulture’s taken the time to chart out the complex range of emotions you’ll feel if each contestant wins, from beginning to end.

James Durbin Rocks ‘American Idol’ Memorabilia On eBay

It’s that time of year when we make a completely arbitrary judgment on which “American Idol” finalists might end up in the winner’s circle based on the profusion of weird junk being offered for sale under their name on eBay.

Unlike the truly bizarre homemade fan stuff we’ve seen in the past honoring Adam Lambert and Jason Castro, most of the top six remaining on season 10 have failed to garner the same level of crafty goodness in their followers.

As his status has slowly risen on the show, though, and he appears headed for a possible spot in the finale, rocker James Durbin has clearly laid the smackdown on the competition when it comes to eBay action.
