Headlines: Jennifer Hudson Tours Detroit, More Adam Lambert Makeup Vids

Jennifer Hudson tours Detroit, joins Aretha Franklin family for ‘Respect’ screening – The day started with a morning worship service at New Bethel Baptist Church, founded by the late Rev. C.L. Franklin, where Hudson surprised congregants and summoned her gospel roots with a rendition of “The Corinthian Song.” Hudson, Tommy and members of Franklin’s family also headed to the onetime Franklin family home on La Salle Boulevard, sharing stories on the porch. The house was re-created in Atlanta for several pivotal scenes in “Respect,” which chronicles Franklin’s life from childhood in the 1950s through her breakthrough as a global star. – Read more at Detroit Free Press

American Idol 2018 Sweethearts Maddie Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson celebrate “national girlfriend day”

If you had no idea that “National Girlfriend Day” is a thing. Well, know you know. (Wouldn’t “National partner day” be a tad less sexist? But I digress). To celebrate 2018 runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson posted a funny photo with his girlfriend, season winner, Maddie Poppe, while wearing a funny wig. “double post so I can say Happy #nationalgirlfriendday to @maddiepoppe! Our favorite, and definitely very legitimate holiday. Thanks for inspiring me to dye my hair black so people will call us siblings again! Stay tuned for our national coloring book day post.” Mm. Fellow Idol contestant took the photo while the couple were in Los Angeles recently.

He was on Team Kelly Clarkson and was a two-chair turn during the auditions. John Legend also turned his chair for the Hartsville native. Since the show, Ward has continued to focus on his singing/song writing career. “It has been exciting and tiresome,” Ward said Friday afternoon at The Midnight Rooster in Hartsville. “After the show a lot of the leg work is up to you. The show gives you a platform and a fan base. The rest is up to you.” Ward said he has developed a loyal and supportive fan base. – Read more at SCNow

The Voice Standout Kristen Merlin Reflects on the Pain Behind Her Strength in Music Video for ‘Shame’ – “I was sitting with [songwriters] Catt [Gravitt] and Jake [Rose] and Catt asked me what my hurdles were as a gay person,” remembers Merlin, who moved to Nashville shortly after her successful stint on season six of The Voice. “I tend to be an optimistic person, so I never actually stopped to think about what the obstacles were in front of me. But I start rattling off things, and that line ‘I’m more than who I hold hands with’ fell out, and we knew there was something there.” – Read more at People

Jake Hoots Talks “Night Left,” First-Ever Disney World Vacation, The Opry, Kelly Clarkson & More – Winner of Season 17 of The Voice, Jake Hoot recently released his single, “Night Left,” and he certainly had a memorable celebration. “I had heard the phrase ‘aight bet’ from my little brother last year and didn’t know what it meant, so I asked him and he clarified what it meant. So I was just like, ‘Oh, that’s a cool little phrase,” Hoot told Music Mayhem of the new single. “I feel like it’s used a lot, but not put in music. And so we put that right there in the middle of the chorus and it’s just a fun upbeat, party, summer type vibe song that I feel like people are going to be able to tap their foot and dance around to or whatever.” – Read more at Music Mayhem
