HDD Projects Miley Cyrus To Sell 250-270k, Cassadee Pope 40-45k

Hits Daily Double has posted its projections for the first week sales of new albums from Miley Cyrus and Season 3 Voice champ Cassadee Pope. See what they have to say about the first week sales of this week’s debuting albums:

Miley Cyrus (RCA) 250-270k
Panic! at the Disco (Fueled By Ramen) 90-100k
Pusha T (Def Jam/IDJ) 75-80k
Cassadee Pope (Republic Nashville) 40-45k
Korn (Prospect Park) 40-45K
Alter Bridge (Alter Bridge) 30-35k
Mayday Parade (Fearless) 30-35k
Amos Lee (Blue Note) 17-20k
Cage The Elephant (RCA) 17-20k
Prince Royce (Sony Music Latin) 16-18k
Stone Temple Pilots (Play Pen) 13-15k

For Cassadee, that total will put her in range to match or top the first week sales of critically-acclaimed country breakout Kacey Musgraves, whose 44k 1st week sales represent the biggest 1st week for an act debuting on the Billboard Country Albums chart in 2013. With no projection for the 1st week sales of Joe Nichols, Cassadee should have a lock on the #1 spot on the Billboard Country Albums chart, since Luke Bryan’s current album sits at #1 this week with 32k. The 40-45k figure will also net Cassadee a t10 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart, though probably outside the t5 with holdover albums from Justin Timberlake, Drake, and Lorde in their 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd weeks out, respectively.

In the talent show pantheon, Cassadee will likely more than quadruple the 1st week sales of s1 Voice champ Javier Colon (10k), but her projected sales would put her a little higher than the 1st week sales of Lee DeWyze’s Live It Up, which sold 39k its first week out and is the lowest 1st week by an Idol champion to date. Looking at recent country Idol debuts, Scotty McCreery’s Clear As Day opened as an all genre #1 album with 197k in 1st week sales in October 2011 and Lauren Alaina’s Wildflower opened with 69k in 1st week sales in mid-October 2011. With s12 Idol champ Candice Glover’s debut album delayed until February 18, 2014, the most recent Idol debut came from Phillip Phillips, whose The World From The Side Of The Moon sold 169k its 1st week out (good for a #4 debut at Billboard).

As far as Miley Cyrus, all that tongue-wagging that has gotten everybody’s tongues wagging is set to give her a career-best 1st week in sales. Or maybe it was just the music? HDD says her previous album, Can’t Be Tamed, started out with 102k.
