American Idol Winner Candice Glover’s Album Postponed Until February

We knew something was up when there was nary a peep or a shred of promo for American Idol winner, Candice Glover’s album Music Speaks in the run up to its October 8 release date.

Unsurprisingly, the album has been postponed until February 18, according to tweets from a Billboard reporter.

Basically, it appears that the record, which was set to drop during the prime pre-Christmas album rush, is instead being dumped during the winter doldrums. January and February have the slowest album release sales of the entire year.

Initially, Interscope/19R planned to release Music Speaks in July to capitalize on the typical post Idol buzz. Well, there actually wasn’t any coming off the low-rated season 12. Maybe that’s why the label postponed the album until after the tour.

But now, it appears they’ve completely lost faith in her. She’s a talented vocalist. She won the competition and is entitled to some effort on the part of the label to make her a success. She could follow season 3 winner, Fantasia, into the R&B genre. I don’t know why they just don’t promote the hell out of her there.

Will she even get a second single? With the newly renovated Idol already on the air, will anyone even care? Albums from Katharine McPhee and Jessica Sanchez–runner ups of seasons 5 and 11 respectively, sold poorly after their album releases were pushed into the new year.

Here are the tweets. Notably, season 1 of American Idol ran during the summer, so there would have been no window to release a Kelly Clarkson album before the end of the year.

ETA: Interscope is confirming via twitter:

ETA: Candice is premiering her new single on her Ustream. No major radio debut? It’s like she’s left to promote herself…
