Gwen Stefani dropped by Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday (Feb 21) to chat about the upcoming season of The Voice. The singer is returning, after taking a season off, to coach alongside Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Alicia Keys.

The show lowered it’s minimum age to 13 for season 12. Regarding a super-poised 13 year old featured in a The Voice promo, Gwen noted:

“It’s so incredible. You haven’t even seen how talented this guy is. It’s unbelievable. He’s so comfortable.” Gwen added that there’s no way she was that confident at 13 years old. Her oldest son is 10!

As everyone knows by now, Gwen and Blake are dating, and now starring on The Voice together as a couple. “I love Blake! He’s the most incredible guy,” Gwen gushed. “Everybody loves Blake. He’s just a sparkly, happy, amazing person.”

Before Gwen joined The Voice, she nothing about country music. “I didn’t even know Blake Shelton existed in the world.” She went on to explain that her parents were big fans of bluegrass and folk. Her first concert ever was country/folk singer Emmy Lou Harris. Coming back to country music via Blake is “kind of full circle in a weird way,” she said.

Gwen’s experience on The Voice has been unexpectedly educational: “Being on the show is so magical. You’re surrounded by music the entire time. Whether it’s picking songs for your team, or listening to really talented people sing. It’s such an incredibly inspiring show. That really opened me up to new music. Not just country…all different genres.”

On writing the song “Break my Heart” with Blake, Gwen said: “We get to hop on each other’s stages. I get to be at one of his country shows and come up and sing [Break my Heart], and he’s come on to my stage. It’s just so bizarre! It’s been magical, because–cross pollination of music is pretty special.”

On working with legendary singer Celine Dion, who will join Gwen as mentor for the Battle Rounds: “Celine is so unique. From a very young age–English is her second language. Every song she puts out is a ‘world’ song. She speaks to the world. That’s a whole ‘nother level. Having her on the show was incredible. I was so bragging to everyone.”

The Voice season 12 premieres on Monday February 27 on NBC.
