Glee star Darren Criss announced the upcoming release of his first holiday album, A Very Darren Crissmas. The set includes several guest stars, including American Idol alum and Queen frontman, Adam Lambert. The two will join forces on the jazz track “(Everybody’s Waitin’ For) The Man with the Bag.” Here’s a performance of the song from the 50’s by Kay Starr. More recently, the Brian Setzer Orchestra and Jane Monheit covered the song.
Adam and Darren have worked together before. Back in 2014, Adam guest starred on Glee season 5 as Elliott “Starchild” Gilbert, an aspiring glam rockstar who joins Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) band. Darren’s character Blaine moves in with Kurt and is becomes a little bit jealous of his boyfriend’s new pal.
In spring 2021 Darren appeared on The Voice season 20 as coach Nick Jonas’s Battle Round advisor.
“I always knew that if I ever made a Christmas album, it would have to be much more than just a collection of songs you already knew,” Darren told People in an exclusive announcement. “I’d want it to be a journey through songs that not only had a personal significance to my life, but also a unique introduction to songs folks had never heard before, and a re-introduction to a few they might think they know – but have never considered differently.”
“Every eclectic choice led this album to feel astutely true to its namesake: a very, indisputably, ‘me’ Christmas,” Darren added.
A Very Darren Crissmas is out on Oct. 8, and available for pre-order Sept. 8 at 12 a.m. EST.
