TV Exclusive: Drescher Goes Backstage at CINDERELLA on WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

In her interview, Fantasia speaks about the events that led up to her suicide attempt 2 weeks ago, and why she felt ready to come back to work so quickly (her ‘life-coach’ thought she was ready).

She also performed her hit  single “Bittersweet” and a few other tunes for the GMA studio audience.

UPDATE: Fantasia’s AOL Sessions are NOW UP. She performed 5 tunes. Check them out:  Bittersweet, Free Yourself, Even Angels, Man of the House, When I See U and a  Six-part Q&A.  Also, don’t miss Fantasia’s Walmart Soundcheck. It’s pretty fabulous.

  1. Is her “life coach” also her manager? Because the timing is oh so perfect. She got better just as her album is available on Itunes. What a coinkydink!

And she has a mushroomhead. Seriously I don’t know which is more tragic- her life or her hair.

  2. And she has a mushroomhead. Seriously I don’t know which is more tragic- her life or her hair.

LOL!! Sad thing is, this is one of her better hair concoctions…remember that nasty fohawk shit she was doing awhile back?

    Brutal.

Anyway, I’m not going to comment further on the wretched skank because I am in boycott mode.

  3. Oh ugh. I found this interview so repugnant; you don’t use a suicide attempt to self-aggrandize, but Fantasia and/or her handlers haven’t a clue. Fantasia needs a therapist (life coach? wha?) but she needs to stop casting herself as a perpetual victim and refrain from discussing her sessions.

  4. And she has a mushroomhead. Seriously I don’t know which is more tragic- her life or her hair.

I actually like her hair. Its funny (to me at least) how the woman gets the blunt of scorn in situations like this. Antwon Cook is the one who made a committment to be faithful to his wife… not fantasia. I’m not excusing her actions, but its just amazing to me how the woman is the one who gets piled on while the man just keeps on going like he did nothing wrong.

Anyways, this album is a good one. Bittersweet isn’t my favorite song on there to be her single, but I will definitely be downloading it. I hope this album is a success for her. My favorite never wins AI, but Fantasia is my favorite winner and I think she’s a very talented young lady.

  5. My thoughts on the hair: Total mushroom. And someone please get that girl a Spanx.

I’m not excusing her actions, but its just amazing to me how the woman is the one who gets piled on while the man just keeps on going like he did nothing wrong.

The difference is that she’s the public figure. She’s the one profiting from notoriety. Really takes her to the bottom, IMO.

  6. I’m not excusing her actions, but its just amazing to me how the woman is the one who gets piled on while the man just keeps on going like he did nothing wrong.

I don’t think it’s only that he didn’t do anything wrong, but she just happens to be the celebrity. If Antwon Cook were in Fantasia’s place, he’d definitely be the center of this.

I dunno what to think. I hope she gets help. I hope she redeems herself somehow, but she seems to have hit so low that even her redemption and rehabilitation will be seen as a publicity stunt. And, to be honest, it probably will be. And honestly, with what stuff has happened so far, it’s killing me on the inside that she’s the American Idol. She needs to be restructured, and not by some reality TV bigwigs.

I want her to be a role model for her daughter, too. If anything, send her daughter to someone responsible.

  7. The problem that I have with her is that when she attempted suicide she showed me she wasn’t thinking how this would affect her daughter, her child should have been her first priority not some man. When she found out he was married, why didn’t she kick his ass to the curb, by staying in the relationship with him, she is no victim, I won’t buy her cd’s.

  8. I don’t think it’s only that he didn’t do anything wrong, but she just happens to be the celebrity. If Antwon Cook were in Fantasia’s place, he’d definitely be the center of this.

I don’t know about this. Fantasia’s problem is that she sounds so innocent, helpless, out of control of her life, victimized: she needs to take control or find someone who can manage it. I think a lot of men in Hollywood get a pass on stepping out with married women (Brad Pitt, Tom cruise) and, in fact, avoiding married men is a skill (you usually can tell if you get asked out on a Thursday night, instead of a weekend). Dodging them takes some effort. I can’t fault her for her involvement, but she does need to assume some responsibility for her own screw-ups.

  9. Fantasia plays the naive victim routine because year after year it works without fail. She’d rather present herself as a borderline retarded woman-child than grow up. The “everybody is so mean and unfair to me” mentality runs in the family and why not? This time around people will reward her with cd sales and tv ratings. Good luck, “Life Coach” in changing it.

  10. ‘Tasia has some serious T-Boz hair going on.I’m embarassed for her right now. She has more than most people could ever dream of and she’s acting this way? Trifling.

  11. That was a beautiful song. She looks absolutely stunning. Naysayers, you’ve definitely sit in frank judgement on a HUMAN BEING’S life that you know absolutely nothing about. Would you have rather she succeeded in killing herself? In life, we break, we are fallible. Where the hell is your compassion? And spanx? Get over yourselves, it’s about time the obsession with perfection ends.

  12. Gosh I love her voice! Seriously can’t take the pity route. This doesn’t seem like a really safe road she’s on…two weeks ago she tried to kill herself and now she’s on a media tour?

  13. Each time I start to wonder if I’m being too hard on Fantasia she does one of her poor me interviews and I remember why she bugs to no end.

She’s tragically comfortable with the pity of others.

  14. Tiger Woods was crucified for his actions (rightfully so). So no, not all men get a pass. She has her claim to fame from a tv show, not radio. So she is automatically going to be more of a target than a singer who became famous the traditional way. She is digging her own grave and I have not one ounce of sympathy for her. Anyone who does is very naive. These kinds of people are manipulative and know exactly what they are doing. They should take her American Idol title away. She obviously cannot live up to it.

Just speaking for myself, but my compassion went out the window when she had the cameras rolling when she got her man to come back to her. The final nail in the coffin was when she said PUBLICLY FOR HER DAUGHTER TO HEAR that her family wasn’t enough to stop her from killing herself. Just STFU Fantasia. I wish her no ill will and of course no one wanted her to “succeed” in killing herself- but the woman should be shutting herself in with her daughter and say no to the cameras so she can heal, but instead she is capitalizing on it because her album is dropping.

In short- she just prostituted herself.

  16. chelly, Thank you. The thing about Fantasia that captures people in the first place is her craziness, her passion, her going full throttle into her songs. So why be surprised when the same thing happens in her life? Sure, we want to see mothers put their kids first and people respect others marriages. But there’s this little issue of rocks and glass houses. None of us is perfect. Those ‘celebrities’ who live all their imperfections out loud for all to see really do take an emotional hit, especially sensitive folks. Yes, they survive by building a hard shell of protection, but that hurts them too – their creativity and their emotional lives.

I, for one, am not going to judge Fantasia for who she loves and what her body looks like. Does she play the victim card too much? Maybe, but who am I to judge whether someone’s actions are too much? Is there a life score card here to keep track? Does she or her agents milk her life out of every last drop for publicity’s sake? Again, maybe, but its her journey, not mine. If I don’t like her music or the way she lives her life, it’s simple enough to not listen to her.

  17. She has a really good voice and I like the song.

Not sure what to make of Fantasia. Something tells me that most of the drama is publicity for her new cd and her VH1 reality show. The interview seemed like a big pity party. I’m just getting very tired of the manipulation.

  18. I don’t know. The bottom line is, I don’t know this girl. And she had some rough shit to deal with in her life. Some people come out of that kind of trauma fine and others are messed up and take longer to recover. I have no idea where she falls. I just think she needs help, and I hope she gets it. The end. At least for me.

  19. chelly, Thank you.

NO FINGERWAGGING, no lecturing. Please read my guidelines:

I’m gonna start banning long-time posters who “high five” posters who are obviously breaking the rules (and are skirting pretty close to breaking the rules themselves.)

  20. Don’t thank somebody who is going to get banned as soon as I finish typing this comment.

Let me be the first, then, to thank YOU, MJ! I gotta say, you really are a great moderator/administrator, especially considering you are running this ocean liner solo. I myself admin a message board (much smaller volume), so I can appreciate how tough and thankless of a job it can be to keep up with a site this busy.

Anyway, keep up the great work….it’s appreciated!

  21. It goes without saying that Fantasia needs help. But you can’t help someone who doesn’t want help. Like someone else said, she seems very content in the role of perpetual victim. She’s her own worst enemy and I pity her.

  22. I’m not excusing her actions, but its just amazing to me how the woman is the one who gets piled on while the man just keeps on going like he did nothing wrong.

Especially when she’s not the one who swore marriage vows.

But it’s the misogyny of our culture in my opinion.

I just see Fantasia as a victim of a lot of rich and powerful people – mainly men – who know she’s not the sharpest tool in the shed and use her anyway, starting with the Idol bunch.

The dress really needs to go.

  23. Especially when she’s not the one who swore marriage vows.

Mr. Cook isn’t the celebrity. If he were he’d be getting it every bit as bad as Tiger Woods and Jesse James.

  24. I really don’t care what goes on in Fantasia personal drama cause is her who has to deal with it. All I wanna say is I love the performances and her AOL session was great. I love when she performs. Out of all the winners IMO she has always had and still does have the most stage presence. Good job Tasia and I’m definitely picking up her album.

  25. I’m definitely picking up her album.

Downloaded it last night, and I think it’s some of her best work yet. Really good stuff.

  26. I can’t believe she’s only 26 years old. As someone who passed on her season, I’m impressed with her performance. I haven’t seen anyone like her on the show in years. It’s like her intensity level is a 10 and now we get 3s. Have they stopped looked for the diva type singers or is the talent pool so poor the past few years.

  27. Apparently people have no feelings anymore. The woman has issues obviously but it has never crossed my mind that she tried to kill herself for fame. If she had succeeded then all of you criticizing her would be speaking beauties about her and only talking about the good memories just like MJ. The world is full of hypocrites.
