Dancing With The Stars – Season 18 – The Finals, Part 1

Dancing With The Stars : Season 18 photo DWTS18_fin.jpg

Hey guys!!! Amanda (Celebrity Bug) is back in action and here to recap the final week of Dancing With the Stars. That’s right, season eighteen is almost over. :-( Last week, the contestants fought to the finish, but Charlie White came up short and was sent packing one week shy of the finale.

Tonight, the two-night finale kicks off and the remaining contestants (Amy, James, Candace and Meryl) have been hard at work preparing for a chance at the mirror ball trophy, but only one couple can reign supreme. Tom and Erin welcome us to show and introduce the remaining contestants with their pros including Mark Ballas, who has his arm in a sling.

The contestants are performing two dances tonight including a dance chosen by the judges, which will be the dance that the danced during switch up week except wit their original partners, and everyone’s favorite, a freestyle. James and Peta are up first.

James & Peta (Tango)

They are sad that their time together is coming to a close, but James says they can still dance together after the finale. He is already the last man standing, but his goal is to be the last person standing. The dancing is pretty good. His legs could use some work, but the intensity is spot on.

Len calls it “sharp as razor”, Bruno says he really wants it badly and Carrie says he a little too uptight and ridged.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-10, Bruno-10 = 29/30

Meryl & Maks (Argentine Tango)

Meryl wants to have some input, but Maks it not having it. He wants to look back at this journey, win or loss, and know that he had nothing else to give. How can they not win? This girl dances like a pro and has brought the best out of Maks in terms of his choreography.

Bruno calls her incredible, Carrie Ann said she topped the perfection that she had already achieved with Val, and Len agrees. He thought it was the dance of the night last time and doesn’t see anything that changes his mind this time around.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10 = 30/30
To Vote For Meryl:
Call 800-868-3406, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Candace & Mark (Quickstep)

They are still shocked they they made it to the finales. So am I. She throws a temper tantrum after Mark corrects her body while rehearsing and Mark gets hauled off for an MRI. After coming out in a sling during the opening, Ballas will still dance after being cleared by doctors. Candace clearly wants this and the dancing is pretty good, but pretty good is not good enough at this point.

Carrie is surprised and totally impressed, Len says she got the toughest dance and handled it well, and Bruno notes how much it improved over her first time.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-9, Bruno-9 = 27/30
To Vote For Candace:
Call 800-868-3407, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Amy & Derek (Salsa)

Amy is still having back problems, but she is pushing through because she is determined to overcome the hurdle placed in front of her. It starts out with a cool lift and just keeps getting better. This girl never ceases to amazes me. If Meryl and Maks have any competition, here they stand.

Len calls it fabulous, Bruno says she is on fire and so in tune with the rhythm, and Carrie Ann says she improved just like everybody else.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10 = 30/30
To Vote For Amy:
Call 800-868-3410, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

James & Peta (Freestyle)

James has always loved performing arts, but didn’t have enough confidence to pursue it the way he wanted to. An accident involving his brother served as a wake up call from him and showed him that life is too short, which led to him pursuing his dreams by moving to Los Angeles. Its a Mars versus Venus battle for his freestyle. Some incredible flips and lifts. A little uneven throughout, but overall, I liked it.

Len says he gave it everything, Bruno calls it a mix of ‘Mad Max’ and ‘The Hunger Games’, and Carrie Ann calls him a star.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-9, Bruno-10 = 29/30
To Vote For James:
Call 800-868-3402, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.

Meryl & Maks (Freestyle)

Meryl first expressed interested in ice skating at age three and after being diagnosed with dyslexia, she pushed through until she won the gold. Her friends also note the new found confidence that they have seen in Meryl through her partnership with Maks. Maks has not been particularly great at choreographing freestyle routines in the past (See: Mel B, Laila Ali and Erin Andrews), so hopefully, he pulls out all of the stops for this one and doesn’t make the same mistake with Amy. This is certainly beautiful and heartfelt, but it feels more like a contemporary number than a freestyle.

Carrie Ann calls it stunning, Bruno says it was as close to flawless as possible, Len says there is good, there is great and there is Meryl.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10 = 30/30
To Vote For Meryl:
Call 800-868-3406, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Candace & Mark (Freestyle)

She talks about going through puberty on television and never really being comfortable with herself or her weight. Her transition from television star to wife and mother helped her become more at ease, and she now feels like she can do anything after doing this show. Their freestyle is disco themed. WOW, what a creative and original selection. We just went from a steak (Meryl) to a hamburger.

Carrie Ann says she went for it, but didn’t connect to the music. Len admires her tenacity and Bruno agrees with Carrie Ann, but thought it was fun.

Carrie Ann-8, Len-8, Bruno-8 = 24/30
To Vote For Candace:
Call 800-868-3407, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Sorry, but even those 8’s were pretty generous.

Amy & Derek (Freestyle)

She talks about feeling like she was completely in control of her life to being in the hospital, and eventually using her legs. She still never gave up on snowboarding and just like she has on this show, she excelled. Unlike Maks, Derek has always been great at truly realizing what the freestyle should encompass (fun, shock, etc.) and delivering on that. I don’t expect anything different tonight. It starts off like a contemporary dance too, but as expect, Mr. Hough has more up his sleeves. She flies high using a rope and whether she wins or loses, she is not going down without a fight.

Len didn’t think the rope was, Bruno says she is on orbit tonight and redefines what is possible, and Carrie Ann says she was dancing with her soul.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-9, Bruno-10 = 29/30
To Vote For Amy:
Call 800-868-3410, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Len can have a stadium full of seats with that score. Talk about being full of it. After the break, one couple will be eliminated based on last week’s judges’ scores and votes. Meryl and Maks are SAFE! Amy and Derek are SAFE! The ELIMINATED COUPLE is James and Peta, which means Candace and Mark are SAFE! WOW! WAIT? WHAT? SHAKING MY HEAD!
