Derek Hough shared his enthusiasm on the red carpet for Dancing with the Stars move to the streamer Disney+.
“At first, I was like, ‘Wha? What does that mean?!’ But within 10 seconds, I was very, very excited about it,” Hough shared with ET on the red carpet at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick on Wednesday (May 4) “I think that’s where a lot of things are moving toward.”
“Dancing With the Stars has always been a trailblazer, they’ve always been the first to do things,” he added. “So to move into this area is very bold, very brave, and I’m very excited about it, to be a part of that new phase in television!”
Derek is also excited that the show will broadcast without commercial breaks, and other “trappings” of broadcast television. He said,”It’s more opportunity for more performances, more dances, more creativity… so I’m excited about that too.”
Derek confirmed that he will definitely return to the judges table, and that while he doesn’t know (or won’t say!) who else is returning with him, he said, “I’m sure a lot of familiar faces will be there, of course.”
Last season, Derek shared the judges panel with Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. Tyra Banks served as host for a second season. However, rumors have been swirling that she won’t return to the show for a third as host. Andrew Llinares, the executive producer who hired her after firing longtime hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews parted ways with Disney and DWTS. The show has yet to announce a new executive producer.
ABC will broadcast NFL football games on Monday nights this fall. Disney has renewed Dancing with the Stars for two more seasons, 31 and 32 to stream on Disney+. The dance competition will debut on the streamer in Fall 2022.
