The ABC Television Network made a bunch of renewal/cancellations announcements yesterday ahead of next week’s advertiser upfronts in New York City.
Included in those announcements was the news that Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor have both been officially renewed. Friday’s reliable Shark Tank has been renewed as well.
And for those of you DWTS fans worried that ABC’s American Idol spring 2018 reboot would replace a cycle of the show. Fear not! From TVByTheNumbers:
DWTS will have two cycles next season, which likely means that it and American Idol will be on ABC concurrently in spring 2018. There had been some speculation that Idol might allow “Dancing With the Stars” to cut back to one cycle per season, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The two Dancing cycles will be the show’s 25th and 26th. The Bachelor will be back for its 22nd attempt to find a well-matched couple and a few more stars to feed the larger BCU (Bachelor Cinematic Universe), and Friday anchor Shark Tank will enter its ninth season in the fall.
Dancing With the Stars is a solid ratings earner, averaging a 1.7 in the coveted 18-49 demo. I couldn’t imagine ABC cutting back for American Idol, which will have to prove it’s mettle all over again.
