Miley Cyrus dropped her the music video on Thursday for her new single “Malibu.” The new clip from The Voice coach was produced by Oren Yoel (“Adore You”), and is obviously about her fiancé Liam Hemsworth with whom she recently got back together after breaking off their engagement in 2013.
And here’s a bulletin: Miley is done with appropriating black culture moving on from urban based material to a more “organic” sound. In a recent interview with Billboard magazine, the singer said that she quit smoking pot.
“This is crazy,” she says with her signature raspy-voiced charm, “but I haven’t smoked weed in three weeks!” Cyrus — who’s sitting across from a lighted wall plaque that reads “It’s 4:20 Somewhere” — elaborates on why she decided to quit “for a second”: “I like to surround myself with people that make me want to get better, more evolved, open. And I was noticing, it’s not the people that are stoned. I want to be super clear and sharp, because I know exactly where I want to be.”
So…check out who Miley is these days in her “Malibu” music video. Gone is the twerking and blow up penises from her Bangerz and Dead Petz phases. Now, the singer presents herself in soft focus, romping around the southern California surf.
