ABC’s Good Morning America revealed Thursday morning (Aug 27) that Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean will join the Dancing with the Stars season 29 celebrity cast.
Rumors swirled for the past several days, but now it’s official. He’ll join former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe as an official member of the upcoming season. The rest of the cast will be announced this Wednesday, September 4 on Good Morning America.
Nick Carter, the only other Backstreet Boy to compete on Dancing with the Stars, popped in during A.J.’s interview to congratulate him and give the singer a few pointers. Nick placed second to Bindi Irwin when he competed on season 21 back in 2015.
Boyband members seemingly have an advantage after years of rehearing and executing dance moves on stage. However, learning Latin ballroom dances and the foxtrot can still prove to be a challenge!
DWTS has already announced the 15 pro dancers set to pair up with celebrities on the show. While fans will be introduced to the celebrity contestants on Wednesday, pro pairings won’t be officially announced until Dancing with the Stars premieres on ABC Monday September 14.
We’re going for the mirrorball, baby!! I am so grateful to @dancingabc and @abcnetwork for the opportunity to be joining this season’s cast of #DWTS. I also want to thank my wife and my two girls for letting Daddy go on this new adventure. I’m doing it ALL for you! pic.twitter.com/D7K7SY1F1D
