Crystal Bowersox and Brian Walker were married on October 10 in Chicago, IL. People posts more details about their intimate wedding party:

Her 1.1 carat ruby ring was diamond free and designed by Brian,

“There are no diamonds to be found as we don’t believe in the violence and injustice that occurs within the diamond trade industry, ” Bowersox tells PEOPLE. “Both rings feature the masonry symbol, an infinity 8, and the Sanskrit symbol for the sound ‘om’ and a personal design that for us represents three: Brian, Crystal, and Tony.”

And the dress?

“The gown is a simple princess line with an open back; a machine-knit hemp twine strap crisscrosses in back, ” says designer, Tara Lynn. And new bride Bowersox couldn’t have been more pleased with the results. “I gave Tara Lynn the base ideas of what I wanted, and in three weeks, she created a beautiful gown made of hemp and cotton, with a handmade macramé and bead sunflower design on the front, ” Crystal tells PEOPLE. “The train of the dress is a handmade design of hemp twine, sea shells, and beads, some of which came from pieces of sentimental jewelry.”

congrats and all the best to the two of them

now time for MUSIC please :)

  2. Yea…no million dollar conflict diamond ring…way to go Crystal and Brian!!!

  3. Talk about having your entire life change in the course of a year. Very happy for her!

  4. Looks like a bigamist cult leader and his latest bride. Scary.

Interesting decision to go with no diamonds.

  5. She looks to be wearing an apron or a hospital gown without the sleeves.

  6. Hope she doesn’t get over-caused, though!!

lol i know what u mean…shes like the super-cause lady now haha. but atleast her causes arent pageantry but real serious issues.

Well it looks like a sentimental wedding. Love the hippie vibe.

  7. Here is another picture of the dress, or at least a very similar one.

Again, not my thing at all, but it’s obviously hers. And nobody can accuse the girl of ignoring her principles.

  8. “There are no diamonds to be found as we don’t believe in the violence and injustice that occurs within the diamond trade industry,” Bowersox tells PEOPLE.

She does realize that most of the world’s rubies come from Mynamar which uses the money it gets from selling rubies to brutally opress it’s own people, right?

You can get conflict free rubies, but you can do the same with diamonds.

Congratulations to Crystal and Brian. They look so happy (and may I say her hair looks fabulous).

  9. They both look really happy. congrats to them both. Crystal looks lovely and her dress is pretty what I can see of it.

  10. They look incredibly happy. I don’t buy People (my own political statement, lol) but I will read the story if someone buys it and posts it somewhere….I love the whole hippie vibe they created.

  11. Everything sounds so Crystal. I dig it. She needs to come live here in Oregon; she’d be right at home in Eugene.

I hope they served dolphin-safe tuna and used non-animal-tested cosmetics, too. Hehe.

  12. Crystal looks enchanting and lovely, and I’m so glad to see she stayed true to herself. I wish them much happiness.

There are non-conflict diamonds on the market. But to each their own.

  14. I think she looks lovely and very happy.

But I can see this. LOL.

  15. SHe looks lovely. I really like her hair. I hope we get to see more pics, especially of the gown and little Tony.

  16. Brian kinda has a megalomaniacal expression on his face.

No matter, I’m still so happy for them and little Tony! Congratulations!

  17. She looks beautiful. Not my taste in wedding dress, but it certainly fits her personality like a glove.

  18. Mine and my wifes wedding was held outside in a park….at a restored colonial house on the front porch. It cost about $500 for her dress, refreshments, and a harp player. We have been married 28 years. I think Crystal knows what’s she’s doing. It ain’t how much you spend…it’s what you make out of it.

  19. I can’t edit but Kirsten is right about rubies, but unfortunately many people who are aware of the brutality of diamond mining do not have the same awareness of rubies. The United States actually has an embargo against rubies from Myanmar, but that doesn’t stop rubies that had already been mined from being sold, and crooked practices like selling Israeli rubies which really just come from Myanmar.

  20. Good grief, that dress is awful. Frankly, why can’t they just say what rings they have without trying to make themselves sound like the world is waiting with baited breath on what ring she has and why. I really don’t care why she doesn’t have a diamond or why she has a ruby.

  21. Good grief, that dress is awful. Frankly, why can’t they just say what rings they have without trying to make themselves sound like the world is waiting with baited breath on what ring she has and why.

Now how exactly did she do that? All I see is someone answering a question about their rings.

  22. Lovely dress, lovely all around. Never a fan of diamonds, I love the alternative ring!

You sure seem upset for someone who claims not to care.

BTW, I agree there is a danger in becoming too preachy when you are as cause driven as Crystal, but simply explaining the meaning behind your wedding dress and rings for reporters who want to know is hardly getting on the soap box.

Anyway, she’s a pretty non-judgmental gal, so I don’t see her getting all PITA fanatic on us anytime soon (a la Carrie).

Considering that it seems details of at least half the weddings that ever take place (locally, not of celebrities) end up in the paper, I don’t see it as much different than any other wedding. They’re always telling what the bride wore, what the bridesmaids wore, the types of flowers and everything. It’s tradition. Personally I agree that in most cases the world doesn’t care about all the details, but it’s not like no one else does it ;-)

FWIW, as a guy I love her dress. I agree it suits her. I just love the whole vibe of the wedding, the way it sounds. Seems to me that the “nontraditional” sorts of weddings always hold such special meaning for people.

I see nothing wrong with no diamonds. A past girlfriend of mine and I had talked about marriage, but we’d both been married once before. I had thought of getting her an engagement ring with an emerald – she had said herself she really didn’t care that much for diamonds but loved emeralds and plus it seemed that since we’d both been married before, something different would be fitting. A jeweler I’d talked to loved the idea as well. (Of course then the relationship didn’t work out that way.) Also, I was thinking that rubies could be created in a lab. I might be totally wrong though.

  25. Also, I was thinking that rubies could be created in a lab. I might be totally wrong though

Yes they can, as can Diamonds. I wonder why not just go with engraved gold bands?

  26. ^^ Dunno. Would have been a logical choice as well, but lol it was their decision.

I thought I’d heard about lab created diamonds here not too long ago. I think sometimes the “artificial” gemstones cost as much or more than the natural ones though too, but if it’s a matter of not wanting to support an industry that has ties to violence, the money shouldn’t matter as much.

  27. Heh…did she dress her dog up in a tuxedo with a rhinestone collar?
Now that was the absolute height of tackiness.

  28. I see nothing wrong with no diamonds.

:) now thats what I’m talking about. Heck.. I don’t even wear a wedding ring and kept my maiden name.

Dress sounds kinda funky, odd…sounds interesting *shrug*

  29. Weddings are very personal events, and the personal taste of the bride and groom will always be loved by some and hated by some. Personally, I think Crystal looks beautiful, and both she and Brian look content. I wish them both lots of love and happiness!

  30. Though I love the idea of sustainable fabrics, I’m not a fan of lace up backless dresses (tacky). Her hair looks freakin amazing. Wonder how long that took?

  31. Beautiful! Her hair does look amazing. I do want to see more of the dress, as I’m curious about the front, based on the picture standtotheright posted. I love the whole vibe of this wedding too. I love simplicity. I’m also partial to rubies, because I like their color and they’re my birthstone. lol.

Brian looks like he’s in his late twenties, early thirties. Does anyone know? It doesn’t really matter, but that was one of the first questions my kids asked. Congrats to the happy couple.

Oh, I just read there is a sunflower design on the front. *Facepalm*. Of course!!

  32. The girl has had such a tough life….may this marriage provide her the warmth and joy she deserves. Treat her right, Brian.

  33. Crystal looks beautiful and that dress is totally her. I hope they’ll have many years of happiness.

  34. The dress and the hair is so Crystal, suits her perfectly. Love that she found happiness and wish her and her family the best.

  35. Maybe she wanted to show off her tattoos all over her body. So she wanted to reveal her wedding photos to People and got paid for that? Anybody know? I thought she is a very private person.

  36. From wanting her boyfriend during idol to “pop the question” to this shotgun wedding, I think Crystal is looking for a baby daddy. Or she got herself pregnant and is not saying anything. Seems so sudden, or a strategic publicity stunt? Maybe I read too much into things *shrugs*

  37. I love the whole hippie vibe they created.

I thought the same thing when I saw the photo. Crystal does look beautiful, and I wish her and Brian (and Baby Tony) a world of happiness. I love seeing a young person take on causes.

Maybe? I think that´s an understatement.

  39. I think Crystal is looking for a baby daddy. Or she got herself pregnant and is not saying anything. Seems so sudden, or a strategic publicity stunt? Maybe I read too much into things *shrugs*

No, you’re not reading into it enough. It’s actually part of Emperor Zurg’s evil plot to take over the universe.

  40. My impression is that Crystal is honest to a fault. I don’t think she’d do something like this for a publicity stunt, lol. Actually, my best friend had a very similar experience, minus the fame of course. She was a single mother, very close to being engaged to a very nice guy. She just didn’t feel it was the right fit, and she broke it off rather suddenly. Then she went back to her hometown for a family reunion and hung out with a male friend of hers from a few years back. They were FB friends but hadn’t really seen each other much. But that weekend it was just combustion. They eloped three months later, and that was 12 years ago! We were all shaking our heads at the time! She always says that Rick wasn’t her rebound, she was always kind of in love with him. But they were never single the same time, and when they were – it was fast!
