Glee star, Cory Monteith, was one of 5 late television figures memorialized in tributes on tonight’s Emmy 2013 telecast.
The actor’s co-star, Jane Lynch, gave a touching tribute, reminding the audience of the “star quality” he brought to Glee in his role of quarterback, Finn Hudson. The actor’s “genuine sweetness that made it impossible not to fall in love with him.”
All that warmth and charm, that open-hearted quality we loved, was no act, said Jane. “Cory was a beautiful soul.”
“He was not perfect,” Jane reminded us, “As many of here tonight can relate to.” (Jane is a recovering alcoholic herself).
“His death is a tragic reminder of the rapacious senseless destruction that is brought on by addiction.”
“Tonight, we remember Cory for all he was,” said Jane, “and mourn the loss for all he could have been.”
She reminded Cory’s young fans that he was worthy of their love. That if they knew Cory, and had witnessed first hand “goofy, breezy sense of humor. His natural instinctiveness for inclusiveness, and his unbridled sense of generosity” they would have loved him even more.
