CMT AOTY: Carrie Underwood Accepts 5th Award, Sings LIVE From Ohio

American Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood was honored for the fifth time as a CMT Artist of the Year. The 10th annual celebration aired LIVE from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Wednesday (October 16).

With Carrie on the road with her “Cry Pretty” tour, she couldn’t appear in person. So the country superstar performed two huge hits, “Two Black Cadillacs” and “Blown Away” live from the concert stage in Cleveland, Ohio. 

“Carrie Underwood is one of the best people on earth, superstar or otherwise. Everyone loves her. She’s real, and she’s talented, and she’s always someone you want to root for whether it’s the first time you’ve seen her or it’s your 20th concert. This is Carrie Underwood,” American Idol mentor and country music radio personality Bobby Bones said as he introduced Carrie . “Everybody, everybody, everybody loves Carrie Underwood.”

“Thank you, CMT, for allowing us to be a part of this night and honoring us. I say ’us’ because it takes all of us. This really is such an honor. I’m so honored to be in such incredible company,” she said, telling her Cleveland fans, “You guys are the reason we get to do what we do.

“At the end of the day, it all comes down to you coming to our shows and listening to our music. I am beyond grateful.”

CMT Artist of the Year also honored country music icon Reba McEntire with an “Artist of a Lifetime” award.  Dan + Shay, Kane Brown, Luke Combs and Thomas Rhett were also honored with awards. Ashley McBryde received the “Breakout Artist of the Year.”
