While the rest of the Top 5 had one good performance (Or maybe none. Not naming names), the Pittsburgh native managed to nail both his songs. His secret weapon? A falsetto so sweet, it could make you cry.

In the “coaches choice” half of the night, Adam swore Chris agreed to perform his next single “Sugar.” Maybe a bad choice for Adam, because Chris managed to outsing his mentor on his own song.

The second performance of the night, a song Chris chose as a dedication to hometown fans, was Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man.” Oh. Dangerous territory, singing one of Bruno’s most beloved hits. No worries. After Chris put his own spin on the gorgeous ballad, he had the house on it’s feet.

All the Top 5 singers have their finer points, for sure. But if the Top 3 were based on tonight’s performance, Chris should BREEZE into next week’s final.

Curiously, after Chris performed “Sugar” in the first half of the show, Adam gave him what amounted to a consolation speech, basically telling the singer that he was a winner weather he won or lost. After “When I Was Your Man,” Adam declared he deserved to be in the Top 3.

Was Adam’s mind changed, or was that a pre-planned redemption arc? Hm.
