Last week, CMT aired a special Giants: Vince Gill, a tribute to the country music icon. The special featured performances from Carrie Underwood and Wendy Moten as well as Brad Paisley, Chris Stapleton, Emmylou Harris, Keith Urban, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Reba McEntire, Ricky Skaggs, Rodney Crowell and Sting.
“From his timeless song catalog, numerous awards and unmatched musicianship, to the respect and camaraderie cultivated among his fellow musicians, and of course, his signature sense of humor, we can all agree Vince is a true titan in country music,” shared Margaret Comeaux, CMT’s Senior Vice President of Production, Music & Events. “He is a true ‘artist’s artist’ who has touched fans worldwide with his music and songwriting, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bestow him with our most esteemed ‘CMT Giants’ distinction.”
The American Idol season 4 winner delivered a stunning rendition of Gill’s “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” Carrie said on social media, “Honored to have been a part of this show paying tribute to the GIANT that is @vincegillofficial!” In a press statement she said, “I feel like a lot of people are kind of just trying to make this night special.”
The Voice 21 runner-up has sung backups for Gill, and he’s done much to advance her career as a solo artist in Nashville. He produced and played on an album of covers Wendy released a few years ago. He introduced her to the Grand Ole Opry where she has become a regular performer. And most recently she served as a featured guest on his 2022 concert tour. “A big Thank you to @vincegillofficial Thank you for your Love, Guidance & Support!” wrote Wendy on social media. She added, “What an AMAZING new memory for my 1st Red Carpet !!! Wow !!! I’m so Thankful.”
Wendy performed a touching rendition of Gill’s song “I Still Believe in You.” Watch it below.
