Carrie Underwood, John Legend Sing ‘Hallelujah’ Global Citizen VIdeo

Carrie Underwood and John Legend sing Hallelujah Global Citizen Prize

NBC’s Global Citizen Prize telecast honored Elton John, Warren Buffett, Sesame Workshop and the co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement on Saturday night.

John Legend served as host of the event, which featured presenters John Oliver, Katie Couric, Miley Cyrus, Nick Jonas, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Oprah Winfrey, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Usher.

During the telecast, Carrie Underwood and John Legend performed “Hallelujah” an original song John co-wrote that is featured on Carrie’s new Christmas album, My Gift.

The award ceremony also featured musical performances from Alessia Cara, Common, Gwen Stefani, JoJo and Tori Kelly.

If you missed Global Citizen Prize, it will re-air Sunday, Dec. 20 at 10 p.m. ET on MSNBC with a second airing at midnight on New Year’s Eve. The special is also on Facebook, TIDAL, Twitter and YouTube.

I hope that once the pandemic is over, singers will return to performing together in front of live audiences. The technology that makes virtual appearances seem almost seamless has become very good, but it isn’t perfect. John and Carrie do a good job of making a connection in a void, but it still can’t compare to the real thing.
