Caleb Johnson on Why He’s the Antithesis of an American Idol (VIDEO)

American Idol winner, Caleb Johnson, is making the rounds of the media. In this interview with ABC news, Caleb reveals that on the Idol finale, before he was revealed as the winner, he spotted his name on Ryan Seacrest’s card.

I swear, Ryan has said that after Clay Aiken learned he lost American Idol season 2 in a similar manner, that he holds a blank card for show during the big reveal. The winner’s announcement rolls in slow mo, and Caleb does seem to react a few seconds before Ryan says his name.

Odd. Maybe the new producers of Idol preferred that Ryan not hold a fake card…

The host of Huff Po live always conducts an insightful interview. In a recent chat with Caleb, she asks why he’s the antithesis of an American Idol. “I don’t think rock has ever won,” he says. “There’s never been a rock singer who’s won it, really.” Then he goes on to explain why he’s not pop-rock like some of the other Idol winners.

“There’s never been a winner like me at all,” he says.

Caleb calls American Idol the OG–the “original gangster” of singing shows. He also points out that its the only competition to produce stars.

When the host asks him about follow Carolinian and Idol alum, Clay Aiken, Caleb immediately lapses into an impression. He also had no idea that the season 2 runner-up was running for congress from their home state.
