That was quick. X Factor 2014 winner Ben Haenow has been dropped by Simon Cowell just three months after releasing his first single, “Slamming Doors.”
The Syco chief made the decision after the singer’s single missed making the UK charts, despite exposure on the X Factor final last December.
According to The Sun, Ben’s quick dismissal makes him the fastest X Factor failure other than Steve Brookstein who never released an official single.
An X Factor source told The Sun: “Simon made the decision with a heavy heart.
“He was a big supporter of Ben but it’s simply down to business — Fleur East, who came second, has done much better.
“And at the end of the day our winners, especially the blokes, never have the same success as the likes of One Direction and Olly Murs.” Simon had mentored Ben as part of the Overs group that season.
The singer also released a duet with American Idol season 1 winner, Kelly Clarkson last year, titled “Second Hand Heart.”
We’ll see if this year’s winner, 17 year old Louisa Johnson, fares any better. It’s not looking good so far, as she had the lowest charting coronation single of all the X Factor UK winners thus far, with her cover of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young.”
