America’s Got Talent 2025: Austin Brown comes back for a second chance after Simon Cowell said NO
TOLDJA!!! As if NBC was going to allow Austin Brown, the literal WINNER of another of the network’s singing competitions to receive nos from the America’s Got Talent judges and that would be the end of it. The big tell was Austin asking to sing another song and Simon Cowell dismissing him with a NO, NO TIME, but suggesting that he speak with one of the producers about it and “find another day.”
Austin Brown lead the a’cappella group Homefree, which won the NBC talent competition The Sing-Off season 4 in 2013. Now, he’s taking a chance on America’s Got Talent as a solo performer. If the show REALLY thought he wasn’t right for the show, his audition would have never aired. Right?
“After that first performance, I was heartbroken. I didn’t do what I thought was right. I did what I thought the judges wanted me to do, instead of just being myself.” Austin explained as he headed to the stage for a second time. He performed “When a Man Loves a Woman” for his first attempt. The audition was fine, the audience loved it, but Simon and Howie Mandel said no. Simon didn’t believe he was “ready” yet.

Austin admitted that Simon Cowell has scared him since he was a a little kid
Austin admitted that Simon has scared him since he was a kid. But he’s on AGT for his BIG BREAK. “This means so much to me,” he declared. “I’m going to fight to show them who I am. I’m not going home without a yes from Simon.”
Simon claimed that when he said “come back” he figured next year. But instead, it’s three days later. (Actually, he instructed Austin to speak with producers about coming back on another day.) “That shows you really want this,” Simon added.
Austin will sing an original song about “second chances” (Natch!). “We’re rooting for you,” Simon said before Austin thanked him for allowing him to come back.
The country tune is called “Somebody Believed.” Gosh. The lyrics are tailor-made for Austin’s exact situation! Still, the whole deal here couldn’t have POSSIBLY BEEN A SET UP FROM START TO FINISH. Hm.
The only improvement between the two performances–the original song fits his range better, and his heart seems to be way more into the performance. He displays an authentic passion that he did not the first time.
Anyway. CLIFF HANGER! Tune into America’s Got Talent Tuesday night (July 8) at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC to find out if Austin finally gets a yes from Simon. (DUH OF COURSE HE WILL).
