No sooner do The Voice and American Idol end their seasons, now it’s time for the enjoyable summer talent competition, America’s Got Talent.
The singers start off performing the familiar arrangement of the ballad, but then eventually break out into a gospel tinged arrangement of the song. At the end, the judges give the singers a standing ovation.
Before the performance, the young trio describe how they met in the cafeteria at the University of North Carolina. When they discovered mutual musical interests, they broke out in song. The incredible vocals prompted the lunch ladies to start hollering! It’s a pretty good story which Simon described as an entire movie told in 20 seconds.
It’s worth noting that NBC filmed the AGT auditions at the Pasadena Civic Center in March, when Covid protocols were still very strict. The acts performed in an empty auditorium. The crowd noises and cuts to audience members in the auditorium? Totally fake! The audience shots appear to be stills. It’s a little weird.
Also worth noting: NO MORE DUNKIES! The Dunkin Donuts cups on the judges table have been replaced by Sonic. This New Englander is sad.
America’s Got Talent 2021 premieres on NBC Tuesday June 1.
