Next week’s AGT will feature the judges choosing acts for the live shows at Simon Cowell’s House

Next week’s America’s Got Talent is the last episode before the two week Olympic break. NBC will air the remaining  auditions next Tuesday, July 20. But it appears AGT will give over part of the episode to the judges choosing which acts make it to the live shows.

The official press releases states that the “auditions conclude with creator and executive producer Simon Cowell at the judges’ table along with Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and host Terry Crews.” adding, “A variety of acts and contestants of all ages audition for the chance to win the $1 million prize” But then states that “the judges deliberate on which acts will make it to the live shows.

UPDATE: The candlelit deliberations take place at Simon Cowell’s house in Malibu. Howie explains why the judge cuts are truncated: “We just wanted to make a more entertaining, less-drawn-out production than we have; the process is basically the same. We talk constantly, even off-camera, and we’re legitimately passionate about who is chosen to go all the way to the live shows. So, the actual process is the same; the location is different.”

AGT will feature 22 auditions acts during the two hour episode. Will new performances be featured as the judges deliberate?

On the NBC AGT press photo page, I counted 22 audition acts the show will feature on Tuesday’s episode. That is a lot of auditions to cram into a two hour show.  It doesn’t leave much room for “deliberation.”

Here’s my speculation: After the last of the auditions air, the end of the show will feature the judges discussing the acts and deciding which will move on to the live shows. But there will be no new performances. The judges will watch clips of the auditions as they decide. Ultimately, the judges will reveal a list of acts who made the cut, along with a few who did not. This is just my speculation, however, as the press release is pretty vague. I’m guessing the deliberation section of the show will be similar in format to the drive-in inspired one episode “judge cuts”  from last season, but without new performances.

Considering COVID and the many international acts participating, it’s probably easier to reveal the acts who made the cut, without new performances.

It’s a little disappointing. I liked seeing the acts again. And I’m sure the acts would love another chance to perform in front of America. Oh well!

Check out the photo gallery below. After the two week Olympics break, America’s Got Talent returns on Tuesday August 10 with live shows and a limited studio audience. Proof of vaccinations and a negative COVID-19 test is required to attend! Also, the hour long live results begin on Wednesday August 11.
