  1. I can’t follow Twitter…*kicks puter*, so could someone be kind enough to transcribe what is going on? Purtty please? Adam-centric is only request! THANKS peeps!

  2. MJ _ Girlfriend… it’s 7/5/09! At least I hopt it is – I’m supposed to leave for vacation this week!

  3. it’s starting!!! Woohoo!

    I’m watching on Rickey’s cellcast…he’s hysterical ;)

  4. poor Rickey is freaking because the cell caster isn’t calling in even though the show has started

  5. well i hope the glittery alien works some magic and manages to sound clear on the cellcert cuz the audio is pretty bad. not that i expected much.

  6. From Twitter about Sarver: Starting! In love with a girl from sarcee. Does he have a cross on his jacket?!?

Just got gospelized between songs… Not religious just in style

Closer by neyo now sounds ok his jacket has sparkles.. Adamized??

All of the above from @allenarose. (Is it okay to post this stuff here for people who don’t do twitter?).

  7. The audio stinks…but Sarver didn’t sound too bad from what I could hear. It’s gonna be hard to give any real reactions listening to this…hopefully You Tube videos will pop up by late tonight/tomorrow

  8. So Sarver only sang two songs?

I’m in Love with a Girl – Gavin De Graw
    Closer – Ne Yo

    Now it’s Megan!!!

  9. Rickey’s cellcast has pretty bad sound, but I could tell it was Sarver singing Nee-Yo. Whoever is cellcasting does a lot of “whooos” so that is killing my eardrums. not sure I can sit through all of this like this. Maybe someone else has something better?
Can’t even tell what is going on right now.

  10. Listening to Rickey’s cellcert. This is fun! Sarver’s Neyo song came in pretty clear!

Someone said that the screams were really loud for Adam during the prepackage! Imagine when he comes out on stage!!!!11!!!

Megan’s on! She sounds good! Wonder if her pink mini is going to ride up too high like in rehearsal!

  11. I’m on Rickey’s site, and this is the first time I’ve ever attempted to listen to a cellcast. Is the audio usually this crummy on a cellcast?

Edit to add…I just read the posts from a minute before I posted…I guess this is pretty normal. I’ll attempt to listen to Scott (he was my favorite), and wait for the YouTube videos tomorrow. Gotta get up in about 6 1/2 hours.

  12. Ah – this live casting sucks for us on the east coast – I guess the concert starts at 7pm on the west coast, which makes it 10pm here. Oh, well.

  13. It seems like Megan only sung like a minute and a half of her first song.

  14. @allenarose says the sound is great live: “For whoever asked, the sound is great, but I am only ten rows back, so…”

  15. Rickey’s cellcast has pretty bad sound, but I could tell it was Sarver singing Nee-Yo. Whoever is cellcasting does a lot of ‘whooos’ so that is killing my eardrums. not sure I can sit through all of this like this. Maybe someone else has something better?

Cellcerts suck. It won’t get much better than what you got right now. Cellphones aren’t designed for broadcasting music. I’d rather wait for the video.

  16. I can hear Megan better on her 2nd song than I did on her 1st one…Richard Rushfield (LA Times) tweeted that she sounded great

  17. (Is it okay to post this stuff here for people who don’t do twitter?).

MJ–YES PLEASE! Same with Ricky’s cellcert! Help us poor pre-21st century ocd fans! OX

  18. Reading some of the tweets. I can’t do cell certs, plus it’s almost my bedtime in an hour or so. I’ll get the goodies tomorrow.

Glad that Megan is doing well. I have high hopes for her being between Sarver and Scott!

  19. ok i just tried to listen at rickey.org is there anyway to turn visual off– lol

  20. Here are some more tweets:

@allenarose: “Scott came up at his piano from below the stage. Bend Or Break sounds really good!”

@allenarose: “Omg lol Scott made a bunch of blind jokes”

  21. More from @allenarose: “He has a black jacket with swirly sparkles on. David A’s thousand miles is better.”

  22. In between his songs, Scott joked with the audience about Ryan trying to high 5 him.

    Richard Rushfield tweets:

#It’s @scottmacintyre time. Every one of them sounds like they are having a million times more fun then they ever did on the show#half a minute ago from TwitterFon

#It’s on! Megan joy sounds fantastic. #idoltour09#8 minutes ago from TwitterFon

  23. Scott is in the middle of his 2nd song, Lil will be next… cell-cast at Rickey is bearable, the chatters are really funny.

He just passed 2500 viewers!!!! Go RICKEY!!!!!!!!!!

  24. LOL – that “cellcast” is AWFUL! Is it even legal anyway? It’s kinda fun looking at Rickey grimacing, but I think I’ll pass.

  25. @allenarose: “Lil Be Without You now. No group opener, cool video intros for everyone”

  26. I thought they were supposed to sing the full version of the songs?? I’m listening to Richey’s cellcast and Lil did not sing the full version of Without You. She missed a full verse.

  27. (Is it okay to post this stuff here for people who don’t do twitter?).

Yes, anybody who wants to “live blog” the cellerts can do that if you’d like…

  28. “I just finished my set and that was one of the most amazing feelings in the world. I hope everyone enjoyed it.”
2 minutes ago from TwitterFon — MICHAEL SARVER.

First Idol twitter after their set in Portland.

Lil is now doing “No One” by Alicia Keys

  29. Cellcerts SUCK! Lil sounds better then the first ones, I can at least make out what she’s singing. She’s singing ‘No One’ now

  30. I am on Rickey’s blog but nothing is playing for me. There is just his picture in the video box and nothing is moving and no audio.. PLEASE help me!!! What am I doing wrong???

  31. Here’s Lil’s full setlist: A Mary J. Blige medley (Be Without You/Just Fine), Alicia Keys’ No One and Beyonc’s Single Ladies. (Mansfield Twitter)

  32. its really painful watching rickey do the single ladies dance!!!!!!! lmao I think Mj should do this

  33. Ahhh ok. According to USA Today’s Brian Mansfield, Lil did a Mary J Blige melody of Just Fine and Without You.

  34. Lil kinda did a Mary J Blige medley with ‘Be Without You” and “Just Fine” so it was I guess three songs, MJB medley, No One, and SIngle Ladies

  35. it seems like the audio is better now than at the beginning. i could hear lil a lot clearer than michael and megan.

  36. Lil sounded good with that Alicia Keys song. Her voice is very rich-sounding. I can’t take the cellcert any more, but I heard some of Scott, too; he has a tenor-ish voice, high and sweet. Hope some good vids show up tomorrow!

  37. go back to the original .org site and click Watch Now, its red, under the first post. There may be a 20sec ad, it will refresh.

  38. At least I can hear Anoop a little better than I could hear some of the others.

  39. Was reading a tweet that said that Lil was wearing a black bodysuit for the Single Ladies song. Oh Lord, that is bravery considering the junk in the trunk she has. Well, more power to her.

  40. Richard Rushfield has loved everyone so far. Brian Mansfield (USA Today) isn’t commenting at all…just saying what songs the Idols are doing!

  41. Tweets about Anoop:

@allenarose: “Always On My Mind. His video was his face in clouds, lol. He sounds incredible!!!!!”

@idoltourbenches: “If I were a real person with real emotions I’d be in fucking tears”

  42. i saw a pic of lil in a grayish black dress’”did she take it off???

Yeah, someone tweeted that she took the dress/coat off for Single Ladies and had a black bodysuit on underneath it.

  43. Allenarose tweeted this:

Karaoke words on the screen for single ladies. She stripped off her coat to a black bodysuit

  44. The sound cut in and out there, but Anoop sounds really good…he’s doing My Perogative now

  45. My Rickey link not working. :-) Have to content myself with twitter updates.

  46. I hope this person’s cell phone battery doesn’t die before I hear Kradison.

  47. allenarose tweets:

#Between songs he put on big black framed glasses… did I miss something?#3 minutes ago from TwitterFon

  48. The sound is better. Anoop is coming across pretty clear. Sounding good Anoop.

Ohhhh I’m hearing lots of screaming!!!

  49. @allenarose: “Omg body rolls during My Perogative. And it did not stop there! Literally lol at the dancing”

  50. People seem to be liking Anoop a lot. Seems like he is getting some great audience response. Me? Meh.
Big cheers just went up and some odd techno music. Matt?

  51. allenarose: Omg body rolls during My Perogative. And it did not stop there! Literally lol at the dancing

Oh I would so love a visual. LOL

  52. Matt is on now. The crowd sounds really into this. And there’s more than 3000 people over on the rickey TV site!

  53. allenarose: “Everyone on their feet for the first time all show for matt”

  54. allenarose: “Holy frickin crap hard to handle was effing amazing!!!! Best song so far! Georgia now.”

  55. I have a feeling that Matt’s performances are going to look and sound really good when video of the tour is put up.

  56. allenarose: “You found me is my least favorite of his by far.”

I was sort of surprised he decided to do that one, since it definitely wasn’t one of his strongest showings on AI.

  57. Me too.

Matt’s songs sound so good! Can’t wait to see him!
I am so excited everyone stood up for him!

  58. Sounds like Matt pretty much totally killed his set. He got the best response, anyway. Good for him!

  59. bottom 5 singing a group number. I wish they would ban duets and group numbers….never sound good together imho.

  60. Brian Mansfield (USA Today) isn’t commenting at all’ ¦just saying what songs the Idols are doing!

girlygirl, he’s doing a live blog. See under blogs above, USA Today. Last I read, he was up to Anoop.

  61. The USA Today blogger says Matt started great, but lost his momentum on his last two songs:

Quote from USA Today blog: Matt may know that soulful stuff like Hard to Handle works well for him, but he just can’t give up the moody piano-rock numbers. His third choice is The Fray’s You Found Me, and he’s just about lost all of the momentum he had when he took the stage. Choices like this were his fatal flaw on the show, and they’re his downfall now, too. He leaves the stage to polite applause — nothing approaching the level of what greeted him.

  62. USA Today blogger indicates that after Hard to Handle, matt’s first song, it was all downhill from there and that he left the stage to polite applause. Oops.

Matt may know that soulful stuff like Hard to Handle works well for him, but he just can’t give up the moody piano-rock numbers. His third choice is The Fray’s You Found Me, and he’s just about lost all of the momentum he had when he took the stage. Choices like this were his fatal flaw on the show, and they’re his downfall now, too. He leaves the stage to polite applause — nothing approaching the level of what greeted him.

  63. Having listened to David Cook cellcasts that roughly translated as “Glub… glub… glub…” this one sounds pretty good!

  64. Rickey’s dancing to Lil’s Single Ladies song was pretty funny!

I can’t wait for the You Tube videos of Anoop!! His voice came across better on the cell cast than anyone else so far, but I can’t wait to hear him when the videos show up later, hopefully some with better quality audio.

  65. black bodysuit for the Single Ladies song. Oh Lord, that is bravery considering the junk in the trunk she has. Well, more power to her.

Maybe Queen L let her borrow her black jumpsuit.

  66. Is there an intermission now? Or do they go right into Allison’s set?

  67. GeminiDolly
    Jul 5th, 2009 at 11:22 pm

Allison is next after the break. woot woot.

This sure seems to be going fast via computer.

  68. The USA Today blogger says Matt started great, but lost his momentum on his last two songs:

I’m sorry to hear this. Matt was my pick and I was hoping he would kill it on tour. I didn’t feel great about it when I saw he was doing that Fray song though… just not his wheelhouse.

  69. How long are these intermissions half an hour? 15 minutes?? Im ready for Allison already!!!!!

  70. ellie2== I am cracking up watching Rickey also—–but i hope when it comes to kradison he puts their pics up instead i dont want to watch him dancing to whole lotta love

  71. I hope TPTB allow Matt to adjust his set so that it doesn’t peter out at the end like that — maybe he should reverse the order at least.

  72. So anyway… I’ll try the cellcast one more time because my faves are coming on soon.

  73. im getting the audio now but I really hear anything but static. Can’t even tell what they are singing or who is singing. I wish I could hear like some of you guys can. My computer is crappy so that may have something to do with it. Have a new computer on the way from Dell. Wish it would hurry and get here!!

  74. but i hope when it comes to kradison he puts their pics up instead i dont want to watch him dancing to whole lotta love

    Yes that!

  75. Intermish is usually 20 minutes at least. Have to have time for all of the women in the audience to use the restroom, for the dancing Pop Tarts and Guitar Hero schmaltz, for the rush for T-shirts and refreshments, and all the other assorted halftime activities.

  76. hehe. the cell caster said she’s gonna put the phone in her bra because she doesnt want to hold it for the final 4… BOOB TUBE!

  77. I can’t wait for full length pictures of Adam’s JACKET!

So far everyone has been getting great reviews – Lil’s was the most positive so far I think.

  78. OMG – I have to get up for work in 5 hours and Adam is still probably an hour away – arghh.

  79. Rickey’s friend said Matt was the best of the first half, and then Anoop.
So who knows? I am really happy Matt was well received.

  80. They look kinda _____ in that picture, Ya, baby grands would have been better.

  81. Wow, Anoop looks HOT in those twitpics Rickey’s showing!

LOL, Rickey’s humming & singing “Mananoop” & showing pics of Matt & Anoop.

  82. Maybe Matt needed to do the Fray 1st or 2nd so it wouldn’t be a let down after his high energy songs.

  83. Please let the intermission be over soon — I tire of Rickey’s manumanoop.

  84. I love how everyone looks otherworldly in the pics. Glowing halos and backlighting. lol. Allisons’ up! Yay!

  85. Dueling piano pictures, not sure why but I was picturing baby grands instead of upright piano’s

Baby grands would have been large and heavy to move. Plus, you have to tune a piano every time you move it so they would have to have piano tuners on hot stand-by in every city. I just don’t see Idol wanting to do that with two pianos.

Those are electronic pianos unless I’m very much mistaken (no place for the strings/sound box to be). Electronic pianos can sound very real these days (ie sound like acoustic pianos and have better tactile response) for relatively cheap these days.

I’m just happy 19E ponied up the cash to bring two pianos with them.

  86. Rickey made me almost pee (Kris) on myself. What is he wearing on his head?

  87. Wow. I can totally hear Allison. Yeah!

    I like Rickey’s hair. Funny!!!

    People are screaming!!! That’s awesome.

  88. My husband just wandered by to listen to Allison – he never watched much of Idol with me before this past season but he was hooked on Allison (and refused to watch after she was gone, lol).

I might have to go to a show, darnit. I’ve never gone to an Idols tour show before (not even for David Cook!).

  89. Lol, in a lot of the pics of Anoop he’s glowing! No wonder he needed the glasses. lol, or do we!! ;)

  90. One of the tweeters says the audience has been on their feet for all of Allison’s set. The rocker chick rules!
Should be interesting to see how that contrasts with Gokey.

  91. no, i think it is during adam’s set.

she sounds good even in the crappy audio!

  92. From USAToday

She’s claiming the rocker-chick look from the start, with her black outfit and white guitar, her hair blowing from fans on the stage floor. And this time, the entire floor of the venue is on its feet — and she’s not going to let them sit down during her second number, the Janis Joplin/Garnet Mimms classic Cry Baby.

    ETA: http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/
the whole article about her is great

  93. from usa today about Allison
I have to admit that I haven’t always seen what others saw in Allison. I wondered if the rocker-girl thing was a little too narrow. But she’s totally working the stage, and she has sounded fantastic on every song. If you liked her on the show, you’re going to love her live. And if she gets the right material, she will be a star.

  94. Lmao…Rickey is killing me with his moonwalk and MJ dancin’… :lol_tb: :clap_tb:

  95. Omfg gokey grinded his crotch in front of my face. Brain bleaaach :(

Yep, pretty sure there are lots of us who would feel the same!

  96. Allison was awesome! I think the last four are perfectly separated. The rockers aren’t next to each other, so each can shine and give the audience a bit of a break in between!

  97. Rickey started pole dancing during Danny’s number! WTF? I think he’s bored.

  98. What happened? No one’s excited about Danny? The crowd seems to quiet down after Allison.

  99. Omfg gokey grinded his crotch in front of my face. Brain bleaaach :(

Oh. My. God. Sounds just weird.
The crowd seems to be kind to him, though.
Oh time for Rascal Flats treacle.
    WHERE IS ADAM????!!!!!!

  100. Danny is wearing jeans with combat boots over them and a big fatty chain. I kid you not.

GOKEY THREW HIS JACKET AT ME. Thank god for the barricade that blocked it from actually getting on me

    ROFLMAO

  101. Best four tweets in a row:

allenarose: Danny is wearing jeans with combat boots over them and a big fatty chain. I kid you not.

richardrushfield: Danny gokeys got salsa moves!

idoltourbenches: GOKEY THREW HIS JACKET AT ME. Thank god for the barricade that blocked it from actually getting on me

onportland@richardrushfield: I don’t know. I’m not feeling Danny as much as Alison who was a surprising tough act to follow.

Wow. I don’t know what to make of his act!

  102. Yuck. Danny’s giving a revival meeting about overcoming tragedy. Spare us.

  103. Allison was really awesome and can’t wait youtube videos of her. Danny did very good on PYT; i like less Maria Maria. After the 3rd song he was getting loads of cheering

  104. I thought Gokey had finished but he was just preaching before his last song … how much time did that take up all you clock watchers? ….lol

  105. Rickey poking fun at Gokey is too funny. Enough of Danny already…we NEED and WANT some ADAM!!! :jittery_tb: :clap_tb:

  106. Is it weird that I’m nervous for Adam? I think it’s because he’s so different than the other contestants. I hope the audience is ready!!!

  107. He didn’t just fuckin’ preach to me during the middle of an idol concert. The guy does have some oversized balls, doesn’t he. I just can’t stand the guy!!!

  108. So Danny get’s 4 songs and a sermon ….lol

    That’s just like Adam’s 4 solo’s and a duet and Kris’s 5 solos …lol

  109. Finally!! I get back on the thread. I think it’s moving too fast and was hunting and pecking all over the place. Rickey’s is just cutting in and out and sounding underwater to me. Rushfield and Seattle Times are okay, but this is still the best commentary and best photos (how do you do that, MJ?). For some reason, I couldn’t get back.

  110. allenarose not impressed with Danny’s preaching:

#It was seriously gospel style preaching. Ok, be back after Adam if I’m still alive. That’s a big if.#3 minutes ago from TwitterFon

and now nothing but screaming…it’s Adam!

  111. “Danny is wearing jeans with combat boots over them and a big fatty chain. I kid you not.

GOKEY THREW HIS JACKET AT ME. Thank god for the barricade that blocked it from actually getting on me”

LOL! This is killing me! LOL!

  112. It sounds like Adam under water, but it’s Adam. I’m so jealous of everyone at the concert!

  113. Danny sounded great, and I don’t see the big deal about the speech. It’s a bit cheesy, but it wasn’t like it was religious. Sometimes it’s nice to have the corny stuff in life. Crowd was going absolutely crazy for him according to Twitter. They seem oddly quiet during Adam’s performance, but I think that’s because many of his fans at these concerts may not know about the awesomness that is Led Zeppelin.

  114. “I thought Gokey had finished but he was just preaching before his last song ‘ ¦ how much time did that take up all you clock watchers? ‘ ¦.lol”

And he doesn’t want to sign with a religious group! LOL!

  115. OMG, Rickey was hilarious wearing his Ireheta Red wig hat& pole dancing during Adams’s “Whole Lotta Love”.

  116. Adam sounds fantastic…of course. i could do without the cell caster chick screaming right into the phone though!

  117. Starlight! This is my favorite Muse song ever — and one of my favorite songs by anyone

  118. Brian Mansfield thinks Danny did great, and so do a lot of people there.

  119. Honestly, Adam’s musical taste may be too eclectic for your typical Idols Tour crowd.

  120. OK, I want to go see Allison… and not be preached at by Danny… and Adam… I better step up my proofreading and earn some $ (maybe I should be doing that instead of listening to underwater Adam, lol).

  121. Adam sounds fantastic’ ¦of course. i could do without the cell caster chick screaming right into the phone though!

Seriously. LOL! My eardrums are being traumatized.

  122. If Adam can sound brilliant over this cellcast, I can just imagine how wonderful it must be to be there in person. Ga!!!!

  123. Maybe it’s just the crappy sound, but I’m not loving this so much…not up to Muse’s version. But maybe I’ll love it when I actually see/hear him live at Staples

  124. These tweets made me so happy! Not the “winning” part, just the appreciation!

nportland: Holy shit Adam Lambert is fantastic live. Maybe America got it wrong. Wow. Just WOW. #americanidol

richardrushfield: Yes. That would be an opening. @adamlambert again leaves me amazed and duMfounded

  125. I won’t torture myself again with these cell casts. I’ll wait until August 8th and 9th for the real deal. I just can’t help myself this first time. I love hearing everyone’s love and energy!!!

  126. I won’t torture myself again with these cell casts. I’ll wait until August 8th and 9th for the real deal. I just can’t help myself this first time. I love hearing everyone’s love and energy!!!

I’m with you, this is my first and last cellcast

  127. Maybe it’s just the crappy sound, but I’m not loving this so much’ ¦not up to Muse’s version.

Yeah, I seriously don’t think it’s possible to fairly judge any of the performances based on what we’re “hearing.”

  128. I’m noticing that Adam comes over the clearest, even those amazing high notes. He is just so so so good, even on a crappy cellcast.

  129. richardrushfieldOmg for realz people. Adams mad world breaks me down every time #idoltour093 minutes ago from TwitterFon

  130. Allison & Adam sounded great on Slow Ride! Can’t wait to see it later.

  131. I’m so tickled that Adam is doing the Bowie medley…maybe more people will do Bowie on AI next year.

  132. Dear G. I think I will be deaf tomorrow. Ha ha!!!!! Can’t wait to see MJ’s posts tomorrow.

  133. Crap! I was about to close all tabs and it didn’t work and I just saw Adam in his tank top on Rickeys!!!! I will sleep well tonight!!!!

  134. “Adam” is a trending topic on Twitter. Apparently, people liked the pics. lol!

  135. Finally, I was able to discern SOMETHING from the cell cast. And generally, I have a great connection and a reliable computer. Adam sounded like he was in a glass jar, in an oil drum at the bottom of the ocean, but I could hear something, finally. Rickey’s reactions were pretty cute though. He was transfixed.

  136. @LIsaE

“Is it weird that I’m nervous for Adam? I think it’s because he’s so different than the other contestants. I hope the audience is ready!!!”

Same here. I am always nervous because he is different and i really really like people to like him. To see what i see in him. He is so nice that i become protective of him, defending him against detractors. I think i made it a life long pledge to defend it. LOL! *crazy*.

  137. Didn’t listen, but love this from USA TOday..

“Second song is Muse’s Starlight, and the six disco balls hanging above the stage turns the Rose Garden into a planetarium. It’s Adam’s typically impressive song choice — for the arrangement, imagine Erasure’s Andy Bell fronting the Sisters of Mercy — and he sings it flawlessly, beautifully, slipping in and out of falsetto. (I wonder if this begins to approach what his album will sound like — you wouldn’t hear me complaining if it did.) Matt’s version of Hard to Handle was pretty cool, but this is the first of the new numbers I’d lay down cash money to hear again.”

    I can’t wait!!!

  138. USAToday
    http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/

Adam Lambert finished second? You couldn’t tell it from this crowd, which greets the explosive sounds and strobing lights with shrieks. Adam kicks off his set with Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love, and the stage fills with smoke. He’s wearing a blue-and-black metallic-looking studded jacket that comes down to his knees, along with a sleeveless black T-shirt and black pants. The crowd may have been dancing for Allison and Danny — for Adam, they’re screaming. Suddenly we’ve gone from the world of AC pop into a real rock show.

  139. The crowd sounds like they REALLY loved Adam!! I could definitely hear the screams when Allison joined him. I have a feeling their duet will be one of the highlights of this tour this year. It sounds/looks like a good time!

  140. Kris sounded great on Heartless…the crowd seems to have loved it to. Now let’s get through the climbing mountains song and get to Bright Lights and Hey Jude

  141. Kris is wearing plaid! lol. I love him. Great top two. So different and unique. I love that! Two great closers!

  142. Is it just me or is Kris sort of anti-climaxtic?

I was just thinking same thing. Poor Kris.

  143. Loved the way Kris started Heartless. Too bad he has to sing No Boundaries over and over and over… Wonder if he’ll drop it as soon as his real single comes out, the way Cook dropped TOML?

  144. Kris’s hair looks cute in those pictures, I guess no dye, eh?? Well, damnit, there’s no excuse for that beanie in all those pictures today then!!

  145. I’m not feeling Kris, dog. Maybe the cellcaster’s phone slipped deeper into the bra?

  146. I definitely will wait for better sounding media from the next concert, cell cast is too painful to listen to for 3 hours, unless you’re REALLY desperate to hear something!

  147. Yeah Kris!!!!! This is what I’ve been waiting for all night!! Woot!

  148. I was just thinking same thing. Poor Kris.

    duh!!! Kris is fab tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  149. ravengirl “,,,anti-climaxtic”

It depends what makes you have an orgasm, lol.

  150. Even through a crappy cellcast Adam sounded AMAZING!!! The crowd loved him! They were also going C-razy for Kris, especially at the beginning of Heartless…he’s sounding great as well!!! It even sounded like the crowd might have been singing along w/ NB….(or maybe it was the echo, heh.) Anyway, I was almost tempted to sing along, haha. Almost. :)

  151. Sounds like the crowd is going insane for Bright Lights! Can’t wait for the Youtubes tomorrow! Here comes Hey Jude. Sounds good so far.

  152. allenarose: The Bowie medley is the hottest performance I have ever seen him do including the 38 second video

….oh this is bad news for my productivity

Is it just me or is Kris sort of anti-climaxtic?
I was just thinking same thing. Poor Kris.

There is no “poor Kris” needed:) Crowd sounds crazy – they love Kris! Kris, Allison, and Adam sound like they were all very well received:)

  154. lovin’ the kris pics…yummay :) cant wait for the videos to pop up tomorrow on youtube. in the meantime, i’ll rely on the usatoday and la times blogs

  155. don’t worry about Kris! just sounds so cool to have two very different great musicians to cheer for……they’re not competing anymore. they both won. and their separate audiences, and cross-over audiences, can cheer them both..

  156. allenarose: The Bowie medley is the hottest performance I have ever seen him do including the 38 second video

:jittery_tb: Tell me somebody you tubed it.

  157. From Robert Rushfield LA TIMES:

Kris Allen delivers. America is no idiot #idoltour09

  158. JMO Kris just sounds kind of boring after Adam. Sorry, but I think it was a very tough act to follow.

  159. From one of the tweeters:

Crowd aint loud enough for kris :( hes doing amazing tho!!!

Oh no, the crowd, or at least Rickey’s cellcaster is singing those dreadful nananananananas

  160. Adam Allison and Kris all did amazing. Kris and Adam are different type of performers. Adam is more Freddy Mercury Kris more James Taylor. Both are great and Love both. (much love for Allison too).

  161. The crowd doesn’t seem to be agreeing with some of you. Kris wasn’t anti-climatic at all. He killed it as well.

  162. Hey Jude was a great choice for Kris. I’d forgotten how sing-songy it is. Gives him a chance to interact with the audience, which is another one of his strengths.

  163. Squirrely Jul 6th, 2009 at 12:55 am

Kris is doing fantastic with Bright Lights!

Can’t wait for the vids!!! I want to see Kris’s entire set. YES, this includes NB!!!

  164. I thought Kris sounded great from what I could hear underwater ;) . This really is a very good cellcast, though. You could hear a lot of the show… it isn’t always the case!

Just realized I’ll be at the beach when they come to my area… boo! Guess I’m not going this year either!

    :clap_tb: :clap_tb: :clap_tb:

  166. Loved Kris’s set. He got the big piano, too. :-)

    K-Sizzle was kick awesome.

  167. The crowd doesn’t seem to be agreeing with some of you. Kris wasn’t anti-climatic at all. He killed it as well.

    The crowd was loving him.

    I love you, Rushfield.

  168. Kris following Adam is like a good cigarette following outrageous, pounding SEX!

Each are good in their own way.

    LOL

  169. Q3, he’s not boring, it’s two different styles that’s it! There are a bunch of people in the crowd who definitely loved it. Remember they are going to do seperate shows in future, so no comparisons.

  170. Wow was that 3 hours? It went by really fast, I have to admit. And I wasn’t even going to listen because of the hellacious sound, but somehow I forgot to turn it off! :doh_tb:

  171. Kris following Adam is like a good cigarette following outrageous, pounding SEX!

Each are good in their own way.

Too funny and sooooo true!!! LOL

  172. From one of the tweeters:

Crowd aint loud enough for kris :( hes doing amazing tho!!!

And the clap-o-meter begins it’s long journey for the season. Work it clap-o-meter. Only the clap-o-meter can tell us who is the “true winner of American Idol”. LOL

Kris Allen delivers. America is no idiot #idoltour09

    Sweet.

  173. wow!!!! can’t wait for Kris performance on youtube!!!

I will have nice dreams!! :)

btw, tought that plaid shirt with leather pants (thanks Adam) were HOT

  174. USA Today

    Your American Idol: Kris Allen

Kris Allen gets a big build-up on the video screens. The stage hands need the time, because they’re setting up a smaller, more intimate environment for him on the stage. A kabuki-drop curtain goes down behind him, and one of the lighting rigs descends from the rafters, while Kris comes up on the lift with his acoustic guitar. It takes a moment for everything to settle into place, but the girls in the audience don’t mind: They fill the pause with their screams of delight.

  175. Kris following Adam is like a good cigarette following outrageous, pounding SEX!

Each are good in their own way.

    Perfectly said and perfectly true….

  176. ADAM is the total concert performer, KRIS is better with studio performances. It is nice now because he sings only 5 songs.. just imagine if it was 10…

  177. Aww… I’m so happy for this group. Sounds likes everyone delivered in their own way (and nobody choked!). What a relief to have the first show over and tomorrow’s a day off!

  178. USAToday Blog

When Kris finally sings, it’s his version of Kanye West’s Heartless. The crowd is into it, though nothing like they were with Adam. Kris’ career, it seems, will live and die on his songs and their arrangements. Adam, on the other hand, will be able to rely just as much on the reputation of his live performances.

Next up, it’s No Boundaries, but it’s not getting anywhere near the level of reaction that Heartless did. In fact, people are starting to sit down. It’s just inexcusable that the Idol winner has to include a song that elicits that kind of reaction. It’s a set killer. I’d heard the studio version of No Boundaries just enough since the Idol season ended that I’d almost decided it was benign, but Kris has to be royally ticked that he’s been shackled to this ball and chain.

Third song is also from the show: Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine, followed by Matchbox 20’s Bright Lights. Kris is holding his own, considering how much of a bring-down No Boundaries was, but he’s going to need some big hits of his own if he ever hopes to fill halls this size again. Musically, his brand of pop seems like it might be better suited to smaller halls, like theaters in the 2,500 to 5,000-seat range. During Bright Lights, he leaves the piano and grabs an electric guitar. The audience is thankful and begins to stand again — but maybe just because he’s farther back on the stage and it’s harder to see him. Regardless, the energy level in the hall starts to rise again.

“Has everybody got their lighters out?” he asks. Well, a few of them do. Most of them have cellphones. Or glo-sticks. They wave them happily anyway for the Beatles’ Hey Jude. Kris gets two sets of “na-na-na-nas” on his own, then he gets the audience to sing along — they’re all with him. Several of the Idols return stage to finish, and that brings the remaining few sitters in the crowd. It’s a big love fest — and, more than 40 years after its release, the simple chorus of Hey Jude remains undeniable.

As are the opening piano chords of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing, and Matt and Scott are playing them as they rise out of the stage again behind their pianos. It’s the cheesiest moment of the night, but it’s effective, and the song’s strange song structure is oddly suited for an Idol group sing, since the chorus doesn’t come in until the very end of the song, giving Adam and Kris, who left the stage after Hey Jude, a perfect spot to return to maximum screamage. The Idols spread out around the edge of the stage for a chorus of Steam’s Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye, and they’re back into the Journey chorus. Adam gives the band a shout-out. Bubbles descend from the ceiling. The Idols pump their fists with a final “Don’t stop!” Cue the theme. That’s a wrap.

  179. Sounds from all of you that everyone did great. The temptation to listen was sooooo strong tonight, but I enjoyed the commentary and the pics. Can’t wait for Phoenix show!

  180. I’m not comparing, but I do think it is tough for the nice cute guy to follow the hot sexy wild guy. Just saying.

  181. everyone should check out brian mansfield’s (USA Today’s Idol Chatter) review of the concert tonight. I think he does a good job of balancing the good and bad of all contestants.

  182. But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

  183. The real question: how does Brian Mansfield get those critiques up in real time, coherently, with no typos? I thought Kris sounded really good (well, as good as anyone can from the bottom of the Dead Sea). Maybe my streaming was getting better or maybe I was just getting used to it, but his energy and tone really came through.

  184. Does Kris really really really have to sing NB? I agree with USA today. its a set Killer.

Next up, it’s No Boundaries, but it’s not getting anywhere near the level of reaction that Heartless did. In fact, people are starting to sit down. It’s just inexcusable that the Idol winner has to include a song that elicits that kind of reaction. It’s a set killer.

Whoo hooo Kris on electric guitar!

  185. Kris, you were fabulous and you make a fantastic American Idol!!!

    Can’t agree more!!!
    much love to Kris!!!!!!!!!

  186. The USA today guy has it right, Kris following Adam was always going to be tough, no matter how well he does because of who they are as performers.

    It’s not that important tough.

  187. It is nice now because he sings only 5 songs.. just imagine if it was 10′ ¦

if it were 10, instead of 5 I would be a happy girl!!!! if you dont like, dont watch ;)

  188. holy god holy god holy god holy god holy god holy god holy god HOLY MOTHER EFFIN GOOOODDDD!!!!!!!!! ADAM LOOKS LIKE A FULLY CHARGED SEX BOMB READY TO EXPLODE!!!!!!!!! i swear to god if he is not at least SLEEVELESS when I see him August 28th I am demading a refund…someone has been going to the GYM!!! DAAAAAYYYYUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMM…..that black tank couldn’t get tight enough….

    heehee….i am a professional fantard…

sorry for the momentary lapse in mental function adam does things to me i will NEVERbe able to explain in words….

  189. If Adam’s Bowie medley is hotter than the 38 second video, somebody please do a fantard a favor & get that up on YouTube ASAP.

  190. But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

He means that he made it intimate. That it felt like he was singing it to him and not 20,000 others. Not too many artist can do that, it’s a very unique quality.

  191. Oh, and SparklesATL, loved your analogy, but not a smoker, so let’s say Kris was the fantastic, snuggly afterglow after the outrageous, pounding sex … that should carry me until tomorrow’s commentary.

  192. crap, i want to skip scott, danny and michael, but their order of performance wont allow me :( guess i’ll be spending a lot of time at the bar

overall, the feedback seems to be very positive for all contestants….im happy…thats the way it should be, a good show for ALL the fans

  193. KenzTK Jul 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am

But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

He means that he made it intimate. That it felt like he was singing it to him and not 20,000 others. Not too many artist can do that, it’s a very unique quality.

Actually, he was describing how they changed the stage set up to LOOK like more intimate show. He said it took a little time to change the set up from Adam’s big dramatic one.

  194. I just wish Kris could drop that crappy No Boundaries song. Why does he have to do it on tour? The song has been out for over a month — it isn’t going to get some bump in sales now just because he’s doing it on tour.

Let Kris do whatever songs HE wants to do — just like the other 9 Idols get to do.

Still, it sounds like he more than held his own after Adam’s set, which is pretty hard to do. As far as I could tell, no one did poorly. And I bet they all had a blast up on that stage in front of that huge crowd.

  195. Kris following Adam is like a good cigarette following outrageous, pounding SEX!

Each are good in their own way.

Perfectly said and perfectly true’ ¦.

I don’t smoke so can Kris be dark chocolate instead ;p

  196. What a shock- the reviewers who preferred Adam during the season still prefer him. They still don’t speak for everyone.

  197. I disagree with USA Today (as always :) Adam, IMO, is like the circus clown that comes out in outrageous costumes to get the crowd “up” for the real attraction. I never liked the circus or their clowns.

  198. Squirrely: According to USA Today NB brought the mood down
I wish he could skip it if it’s going to affect his sets energy

Maybe they should let the Bottom 6 do a medly of NoBo and let Kris do something really good!

  199. Oh and even though the audio was pretty bad, that cell cast still made me even more excited for when I gt to see this show in person — in just 11 days (yay)

  200. I actually gasped when the Twitpic of Adam in his sleeveless shirt opened up. Whoa! What an entertainer. I am VERY entertained. :jittery_tb:

  201. Thanks, snuffles. Now I get it. USA Today….I agree. Rushfield…I agree too.

  202. But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

He means that he made it intimate. That it felt like he was singing it to him and not 20,000 others. Not too many artist can do that, it’s a very unique quality.

Absolutely right. I expected that Adam, with inherent theatricality and love of big showmanship, would have a blast in this kind of setting. But just as the AI judges praised his fearlessness, I give props to Kris for doing his thing too. Next time Kris plays a stadium it will be with his own band. This time he’s tied to the format and the wretched coronation song, which he makes sound as good as it possibly can get given its essential dreckyness.

Someone compared his kind of music to James Taylor’s. Sweet Baby James, one of my all time favorite performers, does not play stadiums often. He does a lot of outdoor concerts, larger theaters, etc. And he has a wonderful band and backup singers. But he also makes you feel he’s singing right to you.

Anyway, no excuses are needed for Kris. He is who he is, and me likee.

And sexiness, as well know, is in the eye of the beholder. I find the boyish cutie pies a lot more attractive than the guyliner guys with the smoke bombs, but that’s just me….. :cool1_tb:

  203. everyone should check out brian mansfield’s (USA Today’s Idol Chatter) review of the concert tonight. I think he does a good job of balancing the good and bad of all contestants.

He was truly amazing, mad props to him for writing such cogent and evocative reviews on the fly. And nary a typo or grammatical error!

  204. The reviewers don’t speak for everyone, they speak for themselves and they were THERE to actually experience the concert, which is more than I can say for some. BTW, I’d say Adam’s always seemed more like a ringmaster to me, rather than the clown. Although, according to Nancy O’Dell, his shoe shize may fit in the category of “clown size”. Oh well, different strokes. It sounds like all of the idols did fantastic and I’m glad they were all treated well by the crowd from what I read.

  205. If this was a contest on smokin hot photos, Adam wins hands down.

I like real men. In any way shape or form!

  206. USA Today was giving pretty fair reviews for everyone tonight. And I did think they raved about Adam.

  207. this is what kara pointed out, “if you can’t feel a kris allen performance, there is something wrong with you” kris makes us feel like his singing the song for us…he makes it really intimate! it’s always a feel good…

  208. “And sexiness, as well know, is in the eye of the beholder. I find the boyish cutie pies a lot more attractive than the guyliner guys with the smoke bombs, but that’s just me’ ¦.. ”

hee hee and Adam does things to me i will never be able to fully understand or express…it’s just a matter of personal preferance haha

  209. And sexiness, as well know, is in the eye of the beholder. I find the boyish cutie pies a lot more attractive than the guyliner guys with the smoke bombs, but that’s just me’ ¦.

Yep same here! I’ll take sweet and low key any day of the week.

  210. What does it matter what anyone else says….if I LIKE SOMETHING that is all the matters. I don’t need validation from a hundred other sources. If we all liked the same thing, the world might as well just be colored black and white instead of all the wonderful colors and shades we get to enjoy.

The important thing, to me, is that, as far as I can gather, the Idols really enjoyed themselves and that they had fun on stage, probably for the first time. They got to feel like “real entertainers” which they are and they got instant feedback from the myriad of fans. Congrats on opening night, Idols, and you all sounded really nice even through a crappy cell phone.

  211. Kara is going to continue to take a beating on this No Boundaries song. I wonder if they will bring the song writing contest back next year. Let’s face it, TOML is still hanging in there. It’s a catchy tune.

  212. this is what kara pointed out, ‘if you can’t feel a kris allen performance

She’s the woman who wrote No Boundaries and Open Toes, right?

  213. Oh and even though the audio was pretty bad, that cell cast still made me even more excited for when I gt to see this show in person ‘” in just 11 days (yay)

I have to wait until the middle of August. :(

From what I heard, the crowd sounded plenty loud and extremely responsive for Kris. They seemed to love him. I don’t know what the USA Today guy was talking about. Maybe he has an agenda?

But anyway, Kris isn’t doing a rock show. The songs, like Ain’t No Sunshine, are songs you stay still and listen to. You can’t measure on a decibel meter chills a singer gives you, or the rapt attention an audience gives a singer. Or the way a singer draws you in and makes you feel he’s singing only to you. I’m glad I “get” him. It’s been a privelege to get to know him and his talent.

  214. I know I’m desperate when I sit thru a crappy cellcast (Rickey was hilarious though). Looking forward to seeing the girls (seems like Megan and Lil are better here than on the show), Anoop, Matt and Kris! That “hey hey goodbye” part inserted into the end number sounded awkward, maybe it makes more sense if you can actually see them, lol.

  215. Brian Mansfield based a lot of his blog on the response of the crowd. IDK how significant this is, but according to the geopredictions on DI, Adam got the most votes in both Oregon and Washington….

  216. Kris is cute, Adam is GORGEOUS! I felt they both did well tonight and can’t wait to see them live.

  217. Haha.. I don’t care if I’m the only one standing up. I will be up standing and singing along to the best craptastic song eva- No Boundaries!! I’m so excited to see Kradison and Manoop(that’s Matt and Anoop right?).

  218. And not one pic of Megan!!! :furious_tb: boy oh boy! I don’t get the whole thing with Adam. In these pics he looks about 20 pounds overweight, with the flabbiest arms I’ve ever seen on a twenty-something gay man. While all the girls on twitpic are raving nuts for how drop-dead gorgeous he supposedly looks. I keep expecting him to go into some blubbery theatrical rendition of “One Last Kiss”.

  219. Qcloud9 Jul 6th, 2009 at 1:02 am

Adam looks better with his jacket on, cool jacket!

I thought so too. Wasn’t diggin’ the sleeveless black shirt.

  220. MJ ok so posters are allowed to insult the idols but we can’t talk back to posters.

  221. I think Adam should keep his jacket on. Of all those guys only Kris has the body to pull that look off.

  222. I hope to wake up to a video of Adam singing “Starlight” with crystal clear audio in the morning. Guhhhh. :wub_tb:

  223. I’m dizzy after Adam’s set. Man oh man. I loved every minute of it even if I was just listening to it over a cell phone at Rickey’s (thanks Rickey!). Incredible, or in the immortal words of Paula Abdul – Phe nomenal.

Loved Allison too. She rocked especially on Cry Baby. Sounded great.

  224. But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

He was referring to the set design – the show producer talked about it as well in his LA Times interview today. He said Adam’s was big and explosive and Kris was more subtle (I’m paraphrasing of course)

  225. KRADAM!
    http://twitpic.com/9h292

WOW >> Adam looks really HOT in that photo. Kris, looks like a lost, little kid. Kris is cute, but not in Adam’s league.

Oh, and just ’cause Adam is “on fire” doesn’t mean he can’t be sweet. I bet he is a real sweetheart off stage and in a one-on-one situation. Being “sexy-hot” and “sweet” are not mutually exclusive….

  226. I like real men. In any way shape or form!

LOL — I guess we’ve come a long way, because my old dad would have said no guy who goes for other guys and wears makeup could possibly be a “real man”! It’s good to get those barriers knocked down. And though my gaydar always goes off loud and clear when Adam is performing, I do think it’s neat that he has a very androgynous appeal.

Meanwhile, let’s set the record straight here. Mr Rushfield DID say Kris turned the place into a small club atmosphere. And that ain’t so easy.

In any event, I went to the AI show last year and this one sounds waaaaaay better. Last year there were four good performers IMO, and here it sounds like there were 10 (maybe 9, I didn’t read about whether Megan sounded good….)

  227. MY only complaint about the whole show and the only part that put a damper on the proceedings was Danny’s little Sunday sermon. Oh well, you can take the preacher out of the church, but you can’t take the church out of the preacher. It wasn’t cool, or inspiring…it was nauseating and a mood killer. Way to go, Danny!

  228. It’s not just the critics who love Adam, apparently the audience did too. I’m sure in different venues, the audience will love Kris more than Adam. I’m getting excited to see Adam just from the comments. For sure when Adam has his own concerts, we’ll need earplugs because the whole audience will be his fans. Can you imagine the noise level?

  229. I want to see Adam’s cool dance moves in the Bowie Medley. Somebody better have you tubed it or Im going to smack a bitch.

  230. Loving the Kradam pics! I’ve seen at least 4 … all awesome! The great thing about living in S. Cal is that if I wanted to, I could take in both LA shows and the SD show. I’m soooo tempted! I’ve officially lost it.

I’ll be honest, I was personally worried about the “tank top.” I was worried it might be a little too much like “YouTube Adam,” which, let’s face it, isn’t “commercial/rock star Adam” (which I prefer). But the tank he chose looked awesome on him. He rocked it for the second half of the Bowie medley. It sounds like it was appropriate to what he was doing onstage, and I don’t know if you can fully appreciate Adam unless you can see him doing his thang.

  231. Yes Adam talked to the crowd. Don’t know what he said as it was inaudible.

  232. Did Adam even talk to the crowd at all? i dont remember??

He said something before “Starlight” I’m pretty sure. I couldn’t understand it, however.

  233. “Here’s a good picture of Adam and Kris together.”

Thanks for the pic, Anne! I wonder what Kris is thinking in this picture? It kind of looks like a WTF moment, or How the hell does he do that?

ETA: Noticed just now that I missed a similar comment before, thought I’d read everything. Oh well, it’s almost 1 a.m. here, and I’m tired from the big weekend.

  234. “I never liked the circus or their clowns”….Neither do I Nola, LOL! Ultimately it doesn’t matter what the reviewers say, it is whether or not the buying public follows their careers once the AI tour is over and supports their music. They have to be able to sell records and fill concert halls to have any longevity beyond this tour. I know I am stating the obvious, but only time will tell, and right now is far too soon to know if any of them has staying power.

  235. You could always tell Adam’s voice was gonna be GREAT in a big arena. The finale performances with KISS and Queen showed that to be true; tonight he filled the arena with his voice alone. I had chills listening to a cellcast from across the country over the internet. Imagine the effect on the audience there! I can NOT WAIT till I see the tour in August, and I’ve never even considered attending an AI concert before this year.

  236. Adam has a fat gut. Even in Gay culture Adam is not desirable. True.

  237. KRADAM!

Kris is still amazed by the notes Adam can reach – bloowind on July 6, 2009

  238. I listened to the top 4 on the cellcert…well, I listened to most of Kris. The sound was AWFUL. The only song out of all that that I could hear even halfway decently was PYT. I won’t be listening to a cellcert again, I don’t think.

I read the USA Today blog and it sounds like the idols received applause pretty much in accordance to their respective finishes, with maybe the exception of Adam and Kris.

I’m not a Kris fan, but unlike Allison, Danny, and Adam, his set did not start out with a really fast driving or real rock song. Heartless starts with a very mellow vibe. I think it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Kris’s set is much more mellow than Adam’s set….people react differently to mellow songs.

Again, I prefer Adam to Kris, personally, but I don’t the the clap-o-meter says much.

  239. haha.. I thought Kris is looking at Adam like that because he’s thinking wtf is going on with that jean vest?! hehe..

So I know that during the group performance, I am going to be taking a ton of pictures of Kradam- must document their every move. haha

  240. no matter. i dont care what HE likes. i know what I like… and that is adam and his black sleeveless shirt and leather pants. meow.

im imagining paula saying “take it all IN” with this picture.

i think they all sounded great. and kris and adam are both fantastic and totally different, and i LOVE that about them. i needed something soothing to calm me down after adam’s set. kris gives me chills and adam gives me gasms. and i really CANNOT believe i do not have tickets to this concert. i gotta find a way to get there.

  241. Let’s remember, though, for all these kids — you can be a wonderful artist and not a huge commercial success. I wish them all the best, and think Kris and Adam at least have a great shot at recording big hits. But some of my favorite singers/songwriters don’t rack up huge sales — and in the arts, it was ever thus. If you move people with your music, you’re doing something great no matter who many widgets you sell….

  242. Brian Mansfield based a lot of his blog on the response of the crowd. IDK how significant this is, but according to the geopredictions on DI, Adam got the most votes in both Oregon and Washington’ ¦.

To be fair to Brian Mansfield, he reported on the crowd response and also reported about his opinion of the performances and the crowd report. Here’s an example from his review of Matt’s performance:

As he introduces Georgia on My Mind, he talks about how, not so long ago, he was singing just that kind of song in hotel lounges. And his performance has just a little too much of the hotel lounge left in it. The crowd loves it, but they’re responding more to the song (and memories of Ray Charles’ rendition of it) than they are to Matt’s performance.

It’s hard to know how accurate his opinion is unless you were at the show and didn’t have a fav. I am not sure I could be unbiased about Danny or Adam since I have strong opinions about both of them.

  243. Kris actually respects Adam, MEANWHILE ADAM LUSTS AFTER KRIS.

    true.

  244. Let me clarify that I have a brother who’s gay and I love him to death and he wouldn’t be caught dead in those jeans Adam had on – those are the gayest jeans ever. And a denim vest. WTF.

  245. Richard Rushfield:

They took a big risk on kris’ slo mo silent intro but it played perfectly

Heartless holds up. Beautiful opening for kris. Transforms the arena to a little club.

Seems to me he’s talking first about the risk of the set and then about Kris himself.

  246. I do believe the strangest part of this whole concert was Danny’s “speech”. From what I could hear and had now read online, it sounded very preachy. I hope he drops this before he comes to Memphis (my show).

  247. fat gut? are you kidding me? the only picture where he has the slightest belly is one of the sleeveless ones and im pretty sure that is because of the way he is leaning back and powering through a note. honestly, i think hes losing too much weight. it bothers me that he keeps bringing it up that he needs to lose more.

  248. I love Adam. And Allison. And Kris. I think they are all amazing at what they do, and they all sounded incredible, even through a crappy cellcast, and the crowd in Portland seemed to love them, as did the reviewers.

It’s an exciting season when not only my favorite (Adam) but also my second and third faves get record contracts at the end!

and to whoever said that Kris gives them chills and Adam gives them ‘gasms: Me too…That is the perfect way to describe it, haha.

  249. Adam is fine the way he is. There are some photos of him in his earlier years(after high school) where he was real skinny ( there are reports he had an eating disorder?) Adam is not real skinny, but he aint fat either. Hes just right.

  250. Wondering 1) Do they tweak the show in big or little ways as they go on? Like rearranging songs in their sets, as some said Matt should rearrange his. It sounds like a great show, but I’m not going to get to see it until September, which leads me to my next question,

    2) Overall, does it “improve” as they go on, or do they sound more tired towards the end? I would think that those who are used to singing on a regular basis would know how to take care of their voices on such a grueling schedule.

I flove the pics of Adam: jacket or no, s’all good!

  251. Do they tweak the show in big or little ways as they go on?

Yes, they tweek the show if needs be. I think that some song order may end up changing if the singer and director really feel that the current order has an adverse affect on crowd response.

And…the Idols usually get much better as the tour rolls along. They become more comfortable, their voices actually tend to become stronger, they have better stage presence and their nerves tend to dissipate.

  252. LOL forever. (I’m guessing this came from ONTD AI.)
    http://i39.tinypic.com/nffxc5.jpg

Adam is soooo handsome in this photo. He really does have it all: amazing voice, great face, nice bod, and intelligent to boot. (that does sound kind of OTT fangirly doesn’t it? sorry…)

  253. The crowd is going NUTS for gokey. Explain?????

    (from idoltourbenches).

Heh. Yeah, from the noise I thought they either really liked him or the building was on fire. aek, it’s nice to get validation that you’re not alone isn’t it!

It sounds like everyone did really well, I’m so glad. I thought that Adam looked gorgeous in the photos I saw, and if he sounded that good on that awful cellcast (Rickey was a hoot though), it must have been amazing in person.

They must all be so happy tonight, they did really well and it sounds like there was a huge outpouring of love and approval from the crowd. I am happy for them!

  254. ehh.. so does anyone else think that Adam’s vest bought his coolness factor down? haha.. I still love him and his supposedly “fat” gut. I just need Kris to show us his “fat” gut too.

  255. Concert… Awesome from what I could hear. Adam smokin hot. Kris adorable. Allison smokin hot. Danny has a great voice. I can’t wait to get something that I can hear without killing my ears. (sorry to cellcast– that was brutal).

  256. It made me really happy that Brian Mansfield loved Adam so much–during the show he seemed to like Adam the most, but he wasn’t a head-over-heels-can’t-be-remotely-objective fan, and he criticized Adam when he felt he deserved it, so his praise tonight really meant something.

And it sounds like he thought that Allison was amazing and Kris was excellent, so good news all around. :)

This is my first year, but it seems like the reactions from some of the bloggers (such as Rushfield) are that this is the most exciting, current concert ever produced by AI. I seriously can barely contain my excitement until I actually see the show.

  257. And, sniff, I am now wondering if I will ever get to see a dancing PopTart. Boohoo!

I will live vicariously through YouTube. I’m really intrigued to see videos, it is sounding like this was a great show which is awesome. It’s definitely an eclectic group!

  258. I’m super excited to see the concert now that I’ve seen the pictures and read a couple of opinions. I tuned in for the first minute of Sarver’s set, but decided that I wanted to be “surprised” by how the rest of the Idols sound. I can’t wait for Adam, Kris, Danny (except for the preaching :/), Allison, and Anoop. It appears that everyone did a great job. Oh, and in the pictures both Adam AND Kris look pretty darn amazing. :wub_tb:

It sounds like it’s going to be a fun concert! Can’t wait until Friday!

  259. Well thanks for the thread MJ and the links to everything Thanks Rickey for the cellcast. and thanks Idols for a great great great great show. Good night Hopefully youtube will be filled with videos of the concert. Sleep well all

  260. The crowd is going NUTS for gokey. Explain?????

    (from idoltourbenches).

Heh. Yeah, from the noise I thought they either really liked him or the building was on fire. aek, it’s nice to get validation that you’re not alone isn’t it!

Josie, y’know, it really does feel good. I’ve been reading here so much, that I had this very nervous feeling in my gut that Danny would be pelted with tomatoes and booed off the stage….lol. I mean, on one level, I knew that pretty much everyone I’ve come in contact with around my parts liked him, but reading online did have me worried.

That quote above from the idoltourbenches is good. She/He really didn’t like Danny, but commented on the love he got from the crowd….so you know it’s real. I’m happy for Danny because I know that he knew about the online hate.

I’m very happy for all of the idols. Sounds like it was a good show and I CAN”T WAIT to go see Adam and Danny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  261. Regarding Danny’s speech or preaching, don’t we have a “preachy” idol every year during the concert? Last year Syesha was like that, and season 5 it was Mandisa. I didn’t go to the concert for season 6, so I can’t say, although I could see Melinda filling the role.

  262. Kris’s shirt looks like tape and patches in the close up picture. It kinda makes him look like a shirtless military man with only patches covering up his wounds but still going out to sing to a crowd. It’s kinda cool, actually.

I really can’t wait until I go on Friday.

  263. All the idols (minus Danny and Adam) are out with the fans.

idolbenches says Adam’s out there now…

  264. I was surprised how smoothly the concert went along…it didn’t seem like 3 hours. The Idols must be exhausted now…all that nervous anticipation, then actually getting out on stage. It’s a good thing they have tomorrow off.

I hope we get some pics and tweets from the afterparty (if there is one).

  265. aek, did you see the USA Today blog? The link is in MJ’s original post. Bruce Mansfield also talked about the crowd reaction to Danny, and it is very positive. I think I remember seeing you write that you were going to the show…now you can look forward to it even more!

  266. a little excerpt from twop:

I loved Allison’s set. She was able to hold her own with bandzilla on steroids the best. I thought Barracuda was excellent, although my husband called it a trainwreck. He later revised that to he thought the song was too big for her. I disagree. She sounds amazing live.

Slowride was o.k. I think maybe it loses a little because it’s no longer a surprise. I hate the song, so there’s that.

When I was watching her I really thought I was looking at the next Kelly Clarkson.

    She was a crowd favorite.

  267. This from Brian Mansfield, he somewhat gives Kris his due, after writing a very idiotic review for Idol Chatter:

    http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2009-07-05-idols-tour-recap_N.htm

The night’s winners included Lil Rounds, who came across as far more comfortable away from the judges’ critical glare, and Allison Iraheta, who combined youthful exuberance with convincing rock chops. Adam Lambert and Kris Allen dominated, though ‘” the place went haywire for Lambert’s extravagant vocals and lithe moves, and Allen’s more intimate appeal.

It’s odd how peopel who weren’t even there are trying to say that the crowd wasn’t in to Kris’ set.

It’s amazing that Kris could create an intimate atmosphere, despite performing in front of a crowd of 20,000 screaming fans. That speaks to his talent, and one of his biggest strengths during the season, he has the ability to make an emotional connection with the audience. That little fact makes Brian’s original review seem even stupider.

  268. Anoop looked hot in that photo. He looks good in white. Many people don’t look good in white, but Anoop pulled it off.

  269. So did they do a Dance routine or did the group just stand there and sing? I wonder how Scott handled the group numbers?

  270. Matt and Scott look like twins. At first I didn’t know who was who, since Matt’s trademark is his fedora hat.

  271. A recap from IDF:

Confession – I haven’t read the thread – I just got home from the Portland show so I’m giving you my raw impressions.

I literally decided at 7pm tonight to go to the show. I left my house at 7:15, was parked and in the stadium by 7:40 and seated in time to see Lil, Anoop, and Matt. They were all awesome. Anoop could be a real hottie if he would grow his hair long. Matt really rocked out on the piano. Lil looked beautiful and sounded great.

At the box office I accidentally asked for Adam Lambert tickets and the girl in the booth cracked up laughing.

On the way in, I stopped for a glass of wine, and I asked the woman next to me who was singing – she said “that scott guy – the adam show doesn’t start for another hour or so”.

I was seated pretty close to the stage, but on the side, about 20 rows up.

Allison blew the roof off the place. She was so freaking awesome. I love her.

Gokey was ok for the first couple of songs – he did a good job with PYT, but then he got boring.

Then it was Adam. The stadium went insane. Insane!! He’s so electrifying in person. WLL, followed by Starlight, which was incredibly beautiful – he stayed still for the performane, then Mad World, then Slow Ride, and finally he took off the jacket and it was just him and his biceps and his gyrating and Bowie, and I totally died and went to heaven. Gahhh

Kris was good, Heartless, and Hey Jude were very good, but goodness the energy drained out of there when Adam left the stage. He and Kris came up through the riser for Don’t Stop Believin, and Adam had lots of shiny glittery stuff on his vest and boots and jeans, but the real show was over when his solo was done.

Great crowd, great show, Adam was clearly the star (sorry kris). The acoustics weren’t that great, it was less about Adam the singer, than Adam the hot sexy performer.

  272. Adam Lambert is the trending topic NOW!
apparently, the crowd LOVED him! who wouldn’t, lol!
can’t wait to see the videos!

  273. This is like the 3rd time trending. Go Adam. I found it funny earlier he was just trending by first name.

  274. Explain to me what is “trending topic” on twitter? How is that figured out?

  275. Crappy cellcast quality and all, I was pleasantly surprised that it seemed that some people sounded MUCH better than I was expecting. Sarver, Megan, Lil, Scott and Matt, I’m looking at you.

And it just zipped along! I was really surprised at how quickly the show went and how they just cranked it from one person to the next. I don’t know if this is how they do normal AI concerts, but it is different from regular concerts I’ve been to.

The only down spots I heard were Matt’s last number, I think he should move it to the middle. And parts of Gokey’s set, and I facepalmed when he started talking about his dead wife and sermonizing. Oy vey. DNW. Allison, Adam and Kris all sounded great despite the poor audio quality. Though I will say honestly, it was a bit of a letdown after Adam’s set and Kris’s great Heartless, to hear that Natural Disasters song. Can Kris ditch it? I’ve heard David Cook stopped singing his crappy coronation song at some point, is this true? If so, please let Kris be able to do this.

  276. i believe it’s based on how many times that word, or similar words, are included in people’s tweets. sort of like the trending topics on google are based on how many times people search for that word or name

  277. Adam twitters:

Our first show was so much fun!! Portland’s audience was amaaaazing!

  278. IDOL TWEETS
dannygokeyThe show was amazing! Every Idol brought it. I’m so glad to be a part of this amazing group. ;)

michaelsarver1Portland fans were amazing tonight. This tour is going to be incredible.

adamlambertOur first show was so much fun!! Portland’s audience was amaaaazing!

AnoopDoggDesaiMet so many supportive fans here in Portland! Tonight was amazing!

michaelsarver1Portland you rock. Thanks for a great nigh

  279. lol…. and the idol buzz word for tonight? AMAZING.

    (i guess sarver didn’t get the memo :) )

  280. YAY for ADAM LAMBERT being trending topic :clap_tb: sounds like Adam was having a blast!!Our baby was the star of the night! :wub_tb:

  281. Does anyone know if that was Kris doing the electric guitar solo in Bright Lights — or was it someone in the tour band? It sounded great…and I know Kris was playing electric guitar on that song.

  282. Thanks MJ for your website. I can now have a good night sleep after all these reviews. Sooooo happy for Adam. I will be back tomorrow for more videos.

  283. “Adam: Probably the loudest screams. Touched himself a lot. Sounded high pitched, but still amazing singing and it was a great, great energy! BRILLIANCE.”

  284. Right now there are lots of people on twitter trying to get Kradam to trend!

  285. GeminiDolly, Jesus Christ I need to get some sleep here and you do THAT to me? O.M.F.G!!! Adamland, I’m glad that got you off the fence. Now I’m almost tempted to go to L.A. and Ontario … DEAD.

  286. uh oh. matt’s not happy with internet watchers or cranky reviewers :(

MGiraudOfficial: Great show tonight!! Thank you to everyone who came out. And if you watched online, you BETTA be in the live audience very soon!!! :)

MGiraudOfficial: I’m so happy that the fans are happy even though some of critics gave some whack reviews! :) can’t wait to sing for ya’ll and meet everyone.

lol…looks like he got the “amazing” memo though

MGiraudOfficialI can’t wait to do it again. You guys are amazing!!!!!! Time to party with my idol peeps, good night everyone. Thank you.

  287. lol Adam is #4 on Twitters trending topics. People can’t stop talking about him even though they didn’t go to the tour.

I was just talking with my friend who went to the concert. She’s bummed that she didn’t get Adam’s autograph but she did say that Adam received the most screams and attention tonight. And I just read some twitters and it seems like he was the most well received! I’m so happy for him.

  288. Susan M. Jul 6th, 2009 at 3:43 am

GeminiDolly, Jesus Christ I need to get some sleep here and you do THAT to me? O.M.F.G!!! Adamland, I’m glad that got you off the fence. Now I’m almost tempted to go to L.A. and Ontario ‘ ¦ DEAD.

There’s no sleeping tonight – whew, ice cold shower won’t even do it!!! Glad I found this place!

  289. I know. Right? That photo kills me.
And I have to get up for work in a few hours. Grrr. :doh_tb:

  290. I keep looking it at. Theres something about the way hes touching his throat thats just so… GAHH..thats it I must call it a night. Looking forward to videos tomorrow. Adios MJsbigblog.

  291. Ok. I’m lying. I’m still awake. When can we sleep? You’re getting me excited again.

  292. From TWOP:

Oh My Ra, I was at the show tonight . I am literally gob-smacked by how insanely good (and gorgeous) Adam-freaking-rockstar-Lambert was.

It was just the scenario I had expected, a bunch of somewhat talented kareoke singers did their things, then Adam comes on and blows the roof off the place. WLL and MW were awesome, Slow Ride w/Allison was fantastic, but holy flipping crap was the Bowie Medley good!!! The sexy, sexy dancing! He took off his jacket! The mod updated version of Let’s Dance! Did I mention he took off his jacket? I think that might have been my favorite thing , lol.

I know this might sound cheesy, but I honestly felt like I was witnessing the birth of a superstar. He kinda messed up the lyrics a bit on WLL. but I think all of them, even Adam were probably a bit nervous, being the first show and all.

Oh, the crowd to me, anyway, seemed to be very much pro-Adam. He got the more and louder screams whenever his picture was shown on the jumbotron, and when he actually appearded in the flesh, the place went nuts.

  293. Love that slow ride video….new moves from Adam. Is he having his own signature moves (@1:16) like his idol MJ?

  294. And Adam fantard that I am, was he attacked by a bedazzler before the show? Can I hope that being the clotheshorse that he is, that Adam ditches his last outfit by his next show? And possibly burns it after that. Though it at least it was a flattering fit. That’s the only nice thing I can say about that outfit. Oh and possibly it was easy to spot from far off, so nice of him to think of people with cheap seats? okay, that really is the last nice thing I can say about that outfit.

  295. i agree truthiness… i can do without the bedazzled denim jacket.

that slow ride video was AHHHHMAZING! they both rocked it out and adam just moves around the stage so effortlessly and with such great moves! i love when he says “sing it to ’em” to allison.

ugh. it’s 3:21am and i have a ton of work that has to be done in about 12 hours but i cannot focus until i see footage of the bowie medley. no sleep for the fantarded.

  296. Does anyone know if that was Kris doing the electric guitar solo in Bright Lights ‘” or was it someone in the tour band? It sounded great’ ¦and I know Kris was playing electric guitar on that song.

    Yes, girlygirl, that was Kris.

  297. Yes, girlygirl, that was Kris.

holy cow that was Kris? That part was insane. he is AMAZING!

Can’t wait to see that live and for the Hey Jude send off.

Waiting impatiently for clips of Kris and Matt performances.

    I second that!

  298. Lol Truthiness, those jeans are horrrible..If someone is willing to steal them off the bus, I have filter and fuel on stand by to finish the job off

Back to the mucic….from what I’ve been able to find on youtube Adam sounded great!!!!!!!!!!….Imagine watching that live!!!!!!Wow!

He’s incredible! So is Allison…she did real good, though I’m not sure I liked Baracuda that much

  299. What I am really excited for are those YouTube videos, and the ones that are coming, anything that involves Adam/Allison and even Kris, I was not a fan of his voice during the season, but I love the guy and his song choices for the tour.

I am seriously amazed about Adam being a trending topic on twitter. Every single U2 fan was tweeting about U2’s opening show in Barcelona last Tuesday. We did not manage to make U2, Bono or Barcelona a trending topic. Tonight, on a smaller tour, Adam Lambert appears at the #4 trending topic. It really surprises me.

  300. Heart:
idf…whose fan wrote this…This is a concert, everyone has their own taste of music, there’s no need to compare.
Plus, the only song I like in Adam’s set is mad world…Others made my ear bleed…
    sorry Adam…

  301. Wow, those YouTube videos actually have a very nice quality, much better than what I was expecting, thanks for the links!

  302. Well here I am in boring Vegas, lol, when I could have gone to Portland to see Adam…….. :wallbash_tb:

  303. Funniest tweet of the night from onportland@twitter.com:

Niiiice pic, Sunn! Would make a great poster for my wall.

  305. I found this tweet “chelseyann226HAHAHA. camera man just focused on adams crotch.less than 5 seconds ago from txt”
Camera man on the scene?? what does it mean??? :jittery_tb: :jittery_tb: :jittery_tb:

  306. I seriously want a longer “Starlight” video. But in the meantime, how awesome was Matt doing “Hard to Handle”!!

  307. There is video posted of Starlight on the Official Adam site – sorry – I can’t figure out how to post the link here.

  308. edit: don’t question the motives of posters or put words in their mouths

Heh. Yeah, from the noise I thought they either really liked him or the building was on fire.

I am glad that Danny got a lot of love. And that a lot of people that are fans of his showed up to support him. :smile2_tb:

  310. Some one mentioned Adam’s weight and I find it fantastic he’s not trying to get the meth head skinny look, he’s sexy as is

  311. Thanks for all the links peeps. The Bowie Medley is franfrellingamazing!!!!

    Love that man!!!!

Starlight needs a little work though. (said with love peeps, said with a WLL) .

The youtube version of Starlight is better tan the Seattle Times by the way. He sounds great on Utube.

  312. Hopefully the videos of Danny’s performances and the rest of the videos of Matt’s and Anoop’s will show up soon.

  313. Thanks for all the videos and the play by play last night!

I’ve been on the fence about if I want to see this show when it comes to Indiana…but my god, I will pay just about anything to see Adam shake it like that! WLL made me have a total fangirly moment behind my computer screen…I’m afraid of my reaction in public forums.

I just wasn’t sure if I could survive,Gokey, Sarver, Lil, and Scott. But I suppose I need some bathroom breaks before Adam takes the stage.

I think I’ll survive Gokey’s preaching for Adam.

*goes off to look for tickets* Nosebleed will do if I can’t get any better.

Sunn I am sure it will be. Probably each one will be tweaking some songs all this week.

  315. Starlight needs a little work though. (said with love peeps, said with a WLL) .

I absolutely DISagree. I thought it was flawless. I have watched it about 50 times since the full video was posted, and each time I am a shivering wreck over how beautifully he sings (and performs) it. I wouldn’t change a note. He and his voice touch my heart in ways I cannot even explain. Amazing song, amazing man.

Thank you, mj, for giving us a forum for our Idol love.

  316. Danny’s ‘What Hurts The Most’ performance:

The person who recorded that has a pretty good camera for picking up sound so I checked out some of her/his other uploads.

There is a full version of Heartless:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-0tstZkt7s

There is also an Anoop and Adam video on that channel.

  317. Thanks to all for posting these videos….I am not going to be able to see the tour this year…….so this is such a treat to see the posts!!

I love Alison, Kris and Adam…….but I have to say that the *hoopla*, *lights* and *fire* for Adam sets Kris up to be anti-climatic….especially ending the show. I am not too sure how the producers could do it otherwise because their music genre is sooooo different…..but it is like a squeak after a huge roar…LOL!

Thanks to you too Mj for providing the vehicle! The ride was FUN! Pix

    THIS

  319. Thank you so much for the vis you beautiful people. You have no idea how this international stuck half a world away from the Fierce one appreciates what you’ve done tonight.

My gratitude to each and everyone of you for making my day. Hell, my month (I rally have no life at all).

  320. – the only one he really gave high praise to was Allison. But from the overall reviews everyone did great.

I thought he gave pretty unequivocally high praise to Adam too, no? He loved Allison (which made me so happy), and I think he was a bit surprised by that since he didn’t love her completely while she was on the show, but seemed to love Adam a lot as well. And his praise to Kris wasn’t unequivocal, but it was probably the highest praise after Adam and Allison.

And Sunn, I have to disagree. :) I was nervous about Starlight because that’s probably my favorite Muse song, and it can be difficult to hear even wonderfully sung new versions of your favorite songs, but I thought it was pretty much perfect–ethereally delicate yet powerful simultaneously.

So glad that Kris, Adam, and Allison did so well.

  321. isisdagmar Jul 6th, 2009 at 8:12 am

I think the band needs a little tweaking but not Adam and then it would be absolutely perfect. Adam’s vocals are fabulous on this.

  322. Thanks for all the recaps. I can’t wait for my show. Sounds like this is better than last season’s tour.

  323. You can’t measure on a decibel meter chills a singer gives you, or the rapt attention an audience gives a singer. Or the way a singer draws you in and makes you feel he’s singing only to you. I’m glad I ‘get’ him. It’s been a privelege to get to know him and his talent.

It seems Adam does the same thing when he slows his set down. Apparently Mad World is so beautiful it can reduce people to tears when you hear it live

  324. It seems Adam does the same thing when he slows his set down. Apparently Mad World is so beautiful it can reduce people to tears when you hear it live

The USA Today writer said, “Low-level fog creeps in, as Adam takes a seat on a stool to sing the Tears for Fears/Gary Jules song Mad World. The crowd is still on its feet, and they’ve brought out their cameras — you could practically read in here, the flashes are so steady. Some people are singing along; most of them just look entranced.”

  325. Let me add my thanks to MJ for having a forum like this and thanks to all the video links. !From the parts I’ve seen and heard, many things to look forward to on July 31: Danny and Lil are excellent vocalists with great tone. Anoop is also very powerful. As expected, Allison and Kris sing and perform like pros already!

And Adam, wow, Starlight (and I’m a fan of the original) is gorgeous, though not exactly like Muse. The Bowie medley is one I’ve already rewatched. That dancing….Is it getting warm in here, or is it just me? So mesmerizing on stage, his voice, his moves, his style and good looks. After seeing these clips, no wonder Brian Mansfield gave such high praise and noted, “Adam Lambert finished second? You couldn’t tell it from the crowd…”

  326. The crowd is still on its feet, and they’ve brought out their cameras ‘” you could practically read in here, the flashes are so steady. Some people are singing along; most of them just look entranced.’

He had them on their feet his entire set. GO ADAM!

  327. My fave pic of Adam’s Portland set ( don’t see it posted, apologies if dup)
    http://twitpic.com/9h8oj

Ok, this is all I need to get me through a day at work after the holiday! Holy hottness with that pic of Adam! And the tank top!!! :wub_tb:

I’m a little torn about how much to watch of the vids – I’m not used to knowing this much about a tour before I go, and I kind of like the suspense – hmm, reminds me of the spoiler sites I frequent for some of my other fav shows. I’d almost rather watch everyone but Adam, so as not to ruin that for me.

But more Adam in anticipation of my tour date (which isn’t till August) is always a good thing to tide me over!

  328. It seems Adam does the same thing when he slows his set down. Apparently Mad World is so beautiful it can reduce people to tears when you hear it live

Reminds me of watching him perform the song on the Today Show – it was absolutely entrancing, and the audience was really noticeably affected by it. His voice is just so unbelievable on that song, and the song itself is so haunting.

  329. Wow Starlight was fantastic. I already re-watch it several times. WLL and Mad World were great too. I think he needs to work on the Bowie medley tho, especially ‘let’s dance’. I don’t know if it’s because the quality of youtube video, there his sound was a little off bit and not as clear as his previous songs, and the choreography needs polish too.

    Go to re-watch Starlight, again.

  330. It seems Adam does the same thing when he slows his set down. Apparently Mad World is so beautiful it can reduce people to tears when you hear it live

Top 10 Things that the Audience Does When Idols “Slow it Down”

    10. Michael Sarver – they start writing songs. Some have been known to write 10 songs in 4 minutes! I hear that a little girl in the audience was able to bang off in 33 seconds the next coronation song last night in Oregon. I hear it’s even better than “No Boundaries”. Like 10 times.

    9. Megan – audience members start molting. Some even lay eggs.

    8. Scott – Believe it or not, they’re walking on air. They never thought they would feel so free-eee-eee. Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be? Believe it or not it’s just them.

    7. Lil – start texting Simon back-talk.

    6. Anoop – join a Frat and then quickly quit the Frat when they realize that Anoop was never in Frat. Text Kara some hate-mail.

    5. Matt – leave the show, come back to the show, leave the show, come back to the show, leave the show, come back to the show, and so on.

    4. Allison – suddenly, the audience dye their hair red. But don’t worry, nobody cuts themselves. Text Simon some hate-mail. Surf the web on their phones, find a florist, send flowers to Slezak.

    3. Danny – they slip into a trance during which they begin doing pelvic thrusts whilst trying to inspire people. Let’s just say, it gets kind of ugly in the floor seats.

    2. Adam – start bedazzling the sh!t out of everything in sight. One woman even bedazzled her cat. Why the cat was there last night, I’ll never know.

    1. Kris – spontenously start thinking that plaid is chic and think about where they can buy a red apron. Then, they text their senators and try to get Kara banned from writing songs.

  331. WOW!!! Those youtube videos have GREAT quality!! Thank goodness because Rickeys was beginning to give me a headache!!

Matt ROCKED!! Just like I knew he would :cool1_tb: He keeps doing HTH and Georgia that way, he is going to really emerge this summer!!!

  332. Great crowd, great show, Adam was clearly the star (sorry kris). The acoustics weren’t that great, it was less about Adam the singer, than Adam the hot sexy performer.

This is kind of what I expected. Regardless of who is your fav singer or style (and Adam is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, to be sure), it’s hard to deny that he has A-MAZING (word of the day ;-) ) charisma and energy on stage. One of the best of all time on idol, imo.

Not to say he’s the end all be all, just that he has a level of OTT showmanship when he gets on that stage.

  333. The RollingStone review of the concert is out:
    http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/07/06/adam-lambert-kris-allen-hit-the-stage-again-as-american-idols-live-tour-kicks-off-in-portland/

The two biggest stars of the show ‘” winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert ‘” embraced what endeared them to millions of fans throughout Season Eight. ‘Glambert’ was out in full force, with tight pants, his otherworldly wail and a tribute to the original rock androgyne, David Bowie. Wrapped in a plaid shirt and a pair of jeans, Allen kept it simple and real, embracing the stripped-down soul sound that elevated him from dark horse to worthy champion.

Has nice things to say about everybody.

  334. Starlight needs a little work though. (said with love peeps, said with a WLL)

Well, considering it is (I believe) the first time he’s ever performed the song publicly, and in front of such a huge crowd, I thought his vocal was stunning.

Actually, I wasn’t sure if I should mention this, but to my ears “Mad World” was a little pitchy in spots, which surprised me.

Let me also thank everyone for posting these videos, a very nice surprise to wake up to this morning.

  335. Top 10 Things that the Audience Does When Idols ‘Slow it Down’

    Bravo Kirsten!!! :lol_tb:

  336. @Kristen, that was hilarious

From the YouTube sources, his version of Starlight seems like a song that should be appreciated from a slight distance with full view of the galaxy backdrop. The seattletimes video doesn’t do it justice, but the homemade fan video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb-ARgw3D8E is awesome. My favourite vocal from him to t

I agree that Mad World sounded pitchy from YouTube (which would be a first because he has nailed all his performances of that song so far) but from the audience reports I read there were some major sound issues going on at the arena so it’s hard to critique.

I LOVED LOVED The Bowie renditions. My favourte Bowie song is Life on Mars and I am thrilled that he was covering that one.

  337. It’s not just the critics who love Adam, apparently the audience did too. I’m sure in different venues, the audience will love Kris more than Adam.

Agreed. I think it depends on what town you’re in, in terms of popularity. The hometown people (Kris in Arkansas, for instance) are gonna get mad love from the crowd, to be sure.

And just a quick note on Adam’s weight – I think it fluctuates a bit, just because of his body type, etc. Certain people are like that. I’ve never thought he looked fat though, and at times he does look ridiculously skinny. He definitely seems to fluctuate within a very short amount of time though. Again, just his body type most likely.

  338. Thanks for all the links. It’s all so exciting. Sounds as though the entire show is good, but my focus is on Adam. Starlight was vocally & visually stunning! I thought it was perfect – no tweaking needed.

  339. Kris’ fans got on Brian Mansfield’s case for the non-review of his perf. This is BM response burried in the comments. Sorry if it was posted already.

“Actually, it’s not really a review (well, I guess it sorta is, but … ). Tonight, it’s a real-time blog, where I’m typing as fast as my fingers will let and am not really filtering the way I normally would if I could spend thinking about the shape of what I’m writing. It’s pure gut reaction. If I’d pre-written it, I’d have been much nicer to Kris, because he did a fine job with his performances. But, man, that “No Boundaries” song is Kryptonite. I hope nobody holds it against him for having to sing it on tour, and I’d lay down cash money that he wishes he didn’t have to. (On the other hand, I guess having to sing it beats not winning American Idol.) Being able to bring an audience back around after that song the way Kris did is, in its own way, a feat as remarkable as anything Adam did.”

  340. From what I can deduce:

    1. A very entertaining show by All the Idols. There didn’t seem to be a mass exodus for the bathroom at any point in the evening. Even Sarver sounded good to my ears.

    2. I didn’t hear any boos for Gokey during the loud cheers/screams.

    3. Adam puts on a great show. Listening to him and not seeing him doesn’t carry the same punch. He needs to keep the jacket on or do some more sit ups. I don’t think his bod is all that.

    4. Kris suffers not jusing coming after Adam but high energy sets from Allison and Danny.

    5. Even though most of the commenters here this Adam is IT, all the Idols have their fans and it’s not a One Man show.

  341. Just noticing while watching some of the video that is up – Adam spends a whole lot of time effing around with those ear pieces….

  342. Just absolutely had to comment for Kirsten: You rock!

They should paste the list of suggestion at every Idol tour arena. :P

Just read the USA Today review – too bad about NB = I kind of felt the same way about Cook having to sing Time of My Life last year, and that was a MUCH better song than NB.

I remember thinking to myself, after Adam didn’t win, that, well, at least he wouldn’t have to sing NB. At moments like this, that truth becomes all the more apparent.

  344. Wow, what a way to start the morning! Thanks for all the videos, photos and recaps. I appreciate all of them, and I’m looking forward to a great show. But, Adam, OMG, you kill me! It’s a good thing I only have to wait until Friday.

  345. Adam looked heavier than usual, but maybe that’s because I’ve been watching Michael Jackson all week. :ponder_tb:

  346. Adam puts on a great show. Listening to him and not seeing him doesn’t carry the same punch.

I definitely don’t think this is true–at least not in the way that I think you mean it. Adam is a very gifted performer and brings more to the table on that front than most artists do–the experience of watching him live is unusually exciting. But his vocals on their own are stunning, and the popularity of his studio version of songs indicates that people love listening to him as much as they love watching him. The performance skills are a terrific bonus–but it’s the voice and interpretive skills that draw people to him most of all. A good parallel would be Bowie: Bowie puts on an amazing show and the experience of actually seeing and hearing him live is like none other (so I’ve heard–I’ve never done it personally)–but his CDs are insanely amazing on their own.

  347. I thought Adam looked and sounded amazing. And I hope he keeps taking off the jacket and rocking the black shirt all the way until August 30th, when I see him in KC!

  348. Kris’ fans got on Brian Mansfield’s case for the non-review of his perf.

All these rabid, knee jerk reactions from fans to people’s blogs when the reviews arent so great to their idols are so comical.

There are 50 shows, there will be good and bad reviews for all of them, different writers/different perspectives……….this is just the first day, and already it’s started.

    It’s gonna be a long summer :razz_wp:

  349. Would love to see some video of Danny’s My Wish. I listened to Rickey’s cellcast last night and Danny brought down the house with that song. The applause were deafening. I was so happy to hear that ALL of the Idols received lots of love from the crowd last night. Rushfield from LA Times said Danny’s voice could fill three arenas.

  350. 5. Even though most of the commenters here this Adam is IT, all the Idols have their fans and it’s not a One Man show.

Thanks for finding a nice way to say this.

  351. Adam puts on a great show. Listening to him and not seeing him doesn’t carry the same punch.

So far, I have listened without watching to get an opinion without the sexiness.. and I love love love it.. The new songs, Starlight and the Bowie medley are amazing..

  352. Every year, the coronation song is atrocious. I think David Cook did the best with his of anyone. And it was a better song to begin with than NB.

Clay’s This is the Night wasn’t too bad, or Kelly’s A Moment Like This, but AI shows their poor taste year after year and won’t budge on the coronation song. Fools.

  353. I thought that Matt’s “Hard To Handle” performance was pretty entertaining. He is a very talented pianist. I am looking forward to seeing his performance of “Georgia”, I think that will be a pretty good performance too.

I thought that Anoop did a pretty good job with “Always on My Mind”, and I am glad to see that he was pushing himself more vocally than he did, at different times on the show. If though the cellcast’s sound was pretty crummy, I could hear Anoop better than I could hear some of the other contestants on the cell cast. I think that his version of “Mad” will probably be pretty good too.

I thought that Danny looked and sounded good. He looks like he has lost some weight, and been working out more. He has really nice arms. And his voice sounds good in his “What Hurts The Most” performance. Looking forward to seeing the rest of his performances.

  354. I think Adam is equally brilliant whether you’re watching or just listening. I’ve been listening to his version of Starlight while doing other things and I’m totally mesmerized. And I’ve watched his Bowie medley about 20 times already. That boy does things with his hips that should be illegal….

  355. Adam puts on a great show. Listening to him and not seeing him doesn’t carry the same punch.

I’ve listened to without watching starlight for numerous times. Love it. They should put the tour songs in a CD. It will sell.

  356. From the reviews they all did really well, especiallly Adam, Allison and Kris.

And I give a fuck not whether Adam takes his jacket off or leaves it on…his set is great, he moves great, he sounds great, just awesome……..

The only thing i’d change is that glittery denim mess

  357. Adam is very cool, but his voice overall is too high for my tastes. Kris seemed kind of quiet for that stage, I think he’ll be better in more intimate settings. Allison is the breakout star this season for me. Also, unlike most of the others, she never seems to hit a bad note or a false moment. She has unerring instincts. Whereas from what I saw of Adam’s numbers, they were sometimes hit and miss, and with his many more years of experience, I expected more perfection from him. Allison is amazing to me. She reminds me of Joss Stone, a phenom.

p.s. Danny’s What Hurts the Most sounds so corny to me, but then again I don’t like Rascal Flatts either.

  358. “The Idol groove continued with a charismatic Matt Giraud, who got the crowd moving with his piano-pounding version of Otis Redding’s ‘Hard to Handle,’ then paid tribute to another soul great with an outstanding ‘Georgia on My Mind,’ giving his elastic voice the full workout, from raspy growl to falsetto.”-Rolling Stone review.

Wott!! Go Matt, Go Matt, Go Matt :clap_tb:

  359. Kris’ fans got on Brian Mansfield’s case for the non-review of his perf.

All these rabid, knee jerk reactions from fans to people’s blogs when the reviews arent so great to their idols are so comical.

That reminds me that Lyndsey Parker from yahoo music needed to explain and explain about her interview with Kris.

  360. And I give a fuck not whether Adam takes his jacket off or leaves it on’ ¦his set is great, he moves great, he sounds great, just awesome’ ¦’ ¦..

The only thing i’d change is that glittery denim mess

He was definitely dressing for the song – 80’s rock

I noticed that, but I think his heavy look in this set is from the clothes worn..because before(during his backstage interview with lil) and after the show(When they came out to meet the fans) he doesnt look anywhere near as heavy as in some of the stage pics.

Thanks for posting this link. I agree it was better than the Seattle Times video. And thank’s oceana for those additional Alison clips.

I only have found the short clip of WLL – quality is not so great. Hopefully, there is a better video somewhere:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4zUze92uYQ

    1. I watched all but one of the clips — in order. (No I am not watching NoBo — no matter how much I like Kris.) I agree with the comment above that it was tough to cool back down to Kris level after Alison – Danny – Adam.

    2. I’m pleased that everyone got (and deserved) a really great reception from the audience and that FanWars stayed out of the arena.

    3. From everything I have read and heard, Danny got a great audience response, and do not take this as a dis of Danny, BUT the huge applause after Danny’s last performance and the screaming was mostly for Adam. If you read the online comments, or listen to the crowd, you can even hear people screaming “Adam”.

    4. The Bowie medly was amazing. Adam’s performance was great and the arrangment of “Let’s Dance” was updated but respectful. Amazing way to end his set. Looks like WLL was also very HOT! I still haven’t seen whole thing.

    5. Adam looks great in the black sleeveless T and the jacket was amazing. The outfit he wore at the end was just OK for me.

    6. Kris looks great in black shirt at the end. I think he should loose the plaid shirt — I would love to see him in a black sleeveless T — Maybe he could go shopping with Adam!

    7. The closing number was a bit cheesey but fun. It must have been amazing to see Kris and Adam rise up on the lift at the end.

  363. 5. Even though most of the commenters here this Adam is IT, all the Idols have their fans and it’s not a One Man show.

Thanks for finding a nice way to say this.

    yes this.

I can enjoy performances by them all. Matt’s Hard to Handle was a very pleasant surprise for me personally.

  364. i definitely do not think adam is fat. water, greens and whole grains??? dudes gonna pass out in the middle of his set! you can’t absorb protein just by wearing lots of leather!

i do agree that maybe the shirt wasnt all that flattering at times. i think it is the way that it hangs and clings to him. plus he has a penchant for the tight pants which gives even the skinniest of people a bit of a muffin top. he just needs to work a little on tone, but even if he didnt do a damn thing i think he is smokin hot.

and i totally feel it just by listening to him. starlight has been on repeat for hours now and i can’t get enough. i loved the original, but i LOOOOVE his version.

  365. PerezHilton just tweetedï ¼Å¡
‘Adam Lambert sings Muse’s “Starlight” on the opening night of the American Idol tour on Sunday in Portland! http://bit.ly/A972T VERY nice!38 minutes ago from web ‘

  366. Yeah, I don’t get the “Adam is fat” comments at all. He is not fat. Camera angles can add pounds. But personally, I don’t think he looks even slightly heavy in any of the videos or photos from last night. And I think he looks borderline too skinny in the video interview with Lil from yesterday. He’s perfect just how he is.

  367. Just read the USA Today review – too bad about NB = I kind of felt the same way about Cook having to sing Time of My Life last year, and that was a MUCH better song than NB.

I am a Cook fan, but am still puzzled by the success of TOML, not that I complain.. I wouldn’t say that it’s better than NB..

  368. Is there a full-length video of Adam’s Whole Lotta Love somewhere from the concert?

  369. I’m a huge Kris fan. So that should put into perspective about what I’m going to say next…

I watched the Bowie medley and laughed out loud. I have tired to understand his appeal. I really have. I really like Adam as a person (I love Kradam) but on stage he makes me laugh with his acting like a “rockstar”. The writhing and running his hands down his body and side of his face. To me and I know it’s probably only me but it’s seems very staged, choreographed and inorganic.

Please don’t feel hurt that I’ve said this. I just want to offer a counterpoint to the “Adam is a rock god” perspective. I know this a Adam heavy website but I’ve been coming here for years and feel that providing some alternate view is important to discussion.

  370. He isnt fat..he’s gorgeous, but the tank top isnt very flattering from certain angles, but I dont care…….he could be strutting on the stage butt nekkid and I’d still think he’s awesome!

So what’s the next stop? I give myself a week at most, maybe 2 or 3 more concerts to follow on youtube and here, and then I’m done with this summer tour…cant watch them do the same songs all summer on youtube clips, I’d run batty!

    Oh September!

  371. Can’t believe that there isn’t a video circulating anywhere of Adam’s entire WLL performance…I’m dying to see it, especially since I’ve read somewhere that he does some pelvic thrusting and mic stand straddling! :devil_tb: As if after seeing his Bowie Medley I can take much more of his hotness! *drools*

I can’t comprehend why anyone would consider Adam fat. He may not be muscular and could improve on his tone, but he’s nowhere near fat. Hard body or not, Adam exudes sex appeal like no other and I’m sure most women would attest to that. :wub_tb:

  372. In response to the Adam is fat comments ‘” NOT!

    http://twitpic.com/9h8oj

    DAYUM! Whew…

Yeah, not fat. That photo conjured a lot of thoughts and images, none of them fat or fat related. LOL

Thanks for all the pics and vids. This is fun. Looks like everyone enjoyed themselves too. Very nice…

  373. In reading lots of reviews, people said they loved “Starlight”. They said Adam’s vocals were unbelievable. Some were familiar with the song and were afraid he would not do it justice, but said he did. Others had never heard the song, but said if he recorded it, they would definitely buy it. A few people said all the special lighting (stars and stuff) were not necessary because his vocals alone was so spectacular, that is all that was necessary.

None of the comments I read said he looked overweight. They said he was really gorgeous.

  374. I really like Adam as a person (I love Kradam) but on stage he makes me laugh with his acting like a ‘rockstar’ . The writhing and running his hands down his body and side of his face. To me and I know it’s probably only me but it’s seems very staged, choreographed and inorganic.

I can totally understand why some people feel like this way, but if you could see it as “this really is” who Adam is, it’d be easier to understand. It’s him! It’s a perfomance, yes, but it’s him.

  375. Okay I can’t seemd to say jacket without saying with sparkle, it always comes out as JACKET, no matter whom I’m talking to and in what context. Damn that Adam!

  376. I’m a huge Kris fan. So that should put into perspective about what I’m going to say next’ ¦

And you are entitled to your opinion and I don’t feel hurt. I appreciate the fact that Adam’s performance is just not your cup of tea. He will not appeal to everyone. Just as Kris won’t. At least you are giving a critique on his performance not on his look or how he talks. That is what bothers me. To me Adam is an amazing performer and I love his voice, all aspects. (rock, ballad, pop, soul) I like Kris too but his range as a performer is no where near Adam’s. But that does not mean he will not be hugely successful or that Adam will be. Just my taste. I personally will support both and respect your reasonable opinion. (even though I do not agree)

  377. Wow! Everyone sounds so great! Allison must have melted some faces off. I was worried about Barracuda but she totally rawked it. Kris Allen, the quiet fire: Proof that there is magic in the lower register. Love!

  378. BestAI: In reading lots of reviews, people said they loved ‘Starlight’ . They said Adam’s vocals were unbelievable. Some were familiar with the song and were afraid he would not do it justice, but said he did. Others had never heard the song, but said if he recorded it, they would definitely buy it. There are so many comments on Twitter about Adam’s Starlight performance from people who saw it and say it was “amazing”, “better than Muse” etc. And there are now a couple of good videos without distortion that have surfaced. It seems like the people who recorded it from the close rows got some kind of distortion — in the Seattle Times video, it’s even hard to hear the back-up electronic vocals. Yes, I would buy it if he recorded.

edit: Don’t question the motives of posters

  379. When Adam starts singing Life on Mars, he is in a voice I have never heard from him. What would the vocal experts call it???

  380. Didn’t Adam say in Rolling Stone the whole rock star thing is like playing dress up on Halloween? Or something similar to that?

As cheesy as TOML was/is it didn’t really kill DC’s set though, at least not the shows I attended. I have memories of the huge crowd singing along, word for word. I found it hysterical at the time until I realized people LOVE that song :laugh_tb:

  381. i’ll be honest, i do think he has an occasional celine dion-like tendency to move his arms uncontrollably…. but i think rather than being fake or staged it’s just energy that finds it’s way out of his body that way and helps him transition that vocal out. thinking about it, i would think it would be hard to spit out a huge note the way he does remaining perfectly still. but it’s probably because ive watched the videos so many times now, it is hard to imagine it any other way :)

he did give an interview yesterday, though, where he was asked whether he consciously thinks about the little gestures during performances (e.g., he was asked specifically about the little shirt raise during ROF) and he said he doesnt pre-plan it. (and the shirt raise was an accident – his finger got stuck on his shirt hehe). i think he just gets in the zone. a crazy writhing, arm flailing, sexy zone!

  382. AS far as him being staged and choreographed, I enjoy that. I don’t think it’s inorganic, that’s how Adam has performed forever. It’s who he is. Growing up in the musical theater community, interacting with his circle of friends and his innate sense of the dramatic come out in his performances. I don’t think he’s putting on a persona, his early youtube performances show that level of perfectionism and planning. Like Simon says, “it’s like asking a cow not to moo.” I think that’s who Adam is. I’m glad he makes the effort to try to perfect his performance, I think it shows a great deal of respect to the audience that he works so hard to prepare for his performances. I’ve always been the type of person that wants to attend a concert to stimulate both my audio and visual senses. If I wanted to hear the song sung straight, I might as well listen to my IPOD and avoid the crowds. I want an experience. I’ll get that with Adam on the 20th of this month for sure.

I’m looking forward to the experience of seeing and hearing all the idols, especially Adam, Kris and Allison. All different, all great.

  383. I am a HUGE Adam fan, but in the pic, I’m sorry, he looked a bit heavy. He has always struggled with his weight, and he seems to have put quite a bit of weight on recently. But so what.? I love his voice.

  384. I really liked Adam on Fame. That was awesome. And is it just me or was Anoop just full of sexy last night. Loved his voice on YWAOMM

  385. It’s really a shame that this has turned into “The Adam Lambert Show”. All of these kids have worked hard to get where they are. Not everyone thinks AL is a “rock god”. Everyone of them have a fanbase and everyone doesn’t like the same type of music. I personally don’t get AL (jmo) and think Kris is a talented singer. It’s a crying shame that as winner of AI, he has to “share” winning with someone else.

  386. I don’t think Adam is fat, but he did look a little soft. That shirt was just not flattering.

  387. most of these cellphone pics are shot from below, i.e. from a low angle, which as any professional photographer/film person knows only makes people look bigger and fatter. unless you’re stick-thin, yup, you’re going to look a little dumpy (even in black, sorry for adam and his rabid nitpicky critics and/or fans).

there’s no explaining glambert’s bedazzled ensemble, though. YIKES!! the only denim that boy should be wearing are skinny jeans. 80s faux acid wash or sparkly jean vests? just say no, son, just say NO.

oh, but me likes all that confident sashaying across that stage during the bowie thang. vamping it up as only as the hbic can (woohoo)…

  388. Loved Starlight and Bowie medley so far (had to watch new stuff first!). I really hope this is what his album will sound like. His voice is so strong and original.

Wouldn’t it be cool if he could throw in a few bars of “Just Dance” into “Let’s Dance”? Great version of Let’s Dance, I’m so glad he finally gets to sing Bowie (plus bonus of not singing No Boundaries).

Can’t stand the song “don’t stop believing” and the denim vest has gotta go (sorry, I do not want to relive that part of the ’80s). Otherwise, he looked amazing. Kris looked good too.

And doesn’t it seem that the AI folks put a lot more money into the whole production this year? Is this the Adam effect???

  389. whyso: I’m a huge Kris fan. So that should put into perspective about what I’m going to say next’ ¦

I watched the Bowie medley and laughed out loud. I have tired to understand his appeal. I really have. I really like Adam as a person (I love Kradam) but on stage he makes me laugh with his acting like a ‘rockstar’ . The writhing and running his hands down his body and side of his face. To me and I know it’s probably only me but it’s seems very staged, choreographed and inorganic.

Please don’t feel hurt that I’ve said this. I just want to offer a counterpoint to the ‘Adam is a rock god’ perspective. I know this a Adam heavy website but I’ve been coming here for years and feel that providing some alternate view is important to discussion.

Whyso, I am a huge Kradison fan, but have to say that Adam is by far my fav Idol of all time. BUT I, for one, never have any issue with people not liking Adam, his music or his performances — and I didn’t think what you wrote was hurtful, just your honest opinion.

But I disagree with you on one point: I do not think this is an unusually “Adam heavy” website. For better or worse, this website is representative of the online world. Adam just has a lot of passionate fans online — and based on last night’s concert reception in Portland. And although Kris won the AI vote, I think that Adam and Danny both have at least as many passionate fans as Kris — maybe more.

  390. Reminder:

Don’t lecture posters or tell them what to do! Positivity police! Head back to your fan forums…

    Off to delete and edit…

  391. Regarding Adam, almost all reviews are positive. Now certain fans like us who come to sites to post our opinions are going to lift up our favorites and put down the others, but as far as entertainment/music/idol critiques, Adam is right up there with the rest of them. Plus, its obvious the crowd enjoyed him so thats what really matters in the end. Its all about getting people interested in buying your fall album!! Its not about whether or not his jacket had too many spikes, or the length of his jeans…..

From the videos I’ve seen. They all did well. It looked like a really good concert with something for everyone. They are definitely having the time of their lives as they should.

  392. I am a Cook fan, but am still puzzled by the success of TOML, not that I complain.. I wouldn’t say that it’s better than NB..

Then again, I consider almost EVERY song better than NB, sorry Kara and co, I just don’t think it’s very good.

TOML definitely didn’t kill David’s set last year, but I remember thinking, aww, too bad we couldn’t have gotten another awesome Cook song (like another from the show, or another original) rather than that. Similar to the feelings with Kris this year – he could have chosen a better song to put in that place, instead of being forced to put that in there. In that respect, Adam got a much better deal in terms of getting to pick 4/5 “new” songs that were NOT NB.

I definitely have no problem with your critique as well. Everyone has their preferences. I’ve always gravitated more toward the edgier, rocker types on Idol (hence the love for Adam) while quiet and unassuming, though plenty artistic in its own right, is just not my thing.

To me, what Adam does is what works for him, in terms of his personality, his influences and loves as an artist – he loves the whole performance, mixing different media, dressing up, focusing on the whole look and feel of the show – and that’s part of the whole act that he comes up with (the dancing, outfits, etc.) This completely works for him and his style. It WOULD NOT work for Kris, or most of the others on the tour. Kris has his own style, and neither is right or wrong, better or worse. Just different.

And re the fat comments (though I should just leave this alone, since I have nothing but love for Adam and his hottness – and I’ve got the pictures to vouch for it :-) ): I agree that the clothes sometimes do it too – and that’s true for ANYONE out there (celebrity, non-celeb, etc.) – Adam loves his outfits, and they are pretty outrageous, but they’re not all going to be the most flattering.

ETA: But that tank top photo of him is all sorts of levels of hottness, so I’m perfectly fine with more of that!

  393. And although Kris won the AI vote, I think that Adam and Danny both have at least as many passionate fans as Kris ‘” maybe more.

Definitely, I listened to Richey’s cellcastt, and the applause for Danny was deafening. He definitely has a following.

  394. hearing about Matt, why don’t they just move the Fray song to first song, and then close with Too Hard To Handle, that can’t be too difficult to do

  395. AS far as him being staged and choreographed, I enjoy that. I don’t think it’s inorganic, that’s how Adam has performed forever. It’s who he is.

People who are performers always almost choreograph. Michael Jackson did, Beyonce does, Usher, Madonna, etc. Actually… Pretty much every concert is choreographed to a point. Thats why its called a show…….

I enjoy it too, but then I love performers. I love the theatrics, lights, costumers, dancing, dancers, etc of it. For instance, thats what made Michael Jackson so special. He could really put on an entertaining show. I like people who can do that. I see a lot of potential in Adam to be able to put on a good concert, especially since he has a natural flare for theatrics.

  396. And is it just me or was Anoop just full of sexy last night. Loved his voice on YWAOMM

Anoop is sizzling hot, I can’t wait to see him live! Anoop is full of sexy: his voice, his performance, his looks, and his attire are amazing. :wub_tb:

  397. Reminder:

Also, there’s no need to preface an opinion with an apology. Everyone here is entitled to an opinion, whether positive or negative, without a pile-on.

  398. Ok, not sure where to ask this, but does anyone know what to do about actually meeting them before or after the show? I know that there were the pre-show pics on the other thread, and they seemed to be signing autographs after the show as well. Any official word on how one goes about getting said autographs? Better to do it before or after the show? Just show up and wait?

After having gone to 2 previous shows, I think I might finally have the nerve to try and meet some of them :-)

  399. Yeah, not fat. That photo conjured a lot of thoughts and images, none of them fat or fat related. LOL

Yeah. depending on how the camera is angled and what position you’re in everyone can look fat in a picture. Thats why you take a lot and pick the best ones. lol

  400. As a huge Kris fan, I have huge respect for Adam, but I just don’t “get” him. I do think he is a huge talent, and I wish him well but I just cannot get into his music.

It’s just hard for me to understand why people feel like Kris’s set is such a let-down after Adam. To me, Adam and Kris are such hugely different artists and they are going to have different appeal. Even on the show, Kris always showed a more mellow approach while Adam was very much OTT, so I would expect that in person their performances would be similar to this.

I think Kris’s set actually is a better lead into the finale cheesy number of “Don’t Stop Belivin”. There seems more continuity to having “Hey Jude” performed just before this final number as compared to having Adam’s Bowie medley as the lead in because of the type of songs these both are.

But please, can Kris get rid of the horror of NoBo and put something more fun in there (like SWHFTM or MiM)? It sucks that this song seems to sap some of the life out of the set whereas the other 2 songs would likely be so much better received.

  401. lola Jul 6th, 2009 at 1:15 am

But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

That is actually a tremendous compliment because that is very hard to do in a huge arena and most acts prefer the intimacy of a smaller venue, even acts that usually play large venues, nothing like the electricity and intimacy of a smaller venue

I personally will take the smaller venue over the larger anytime. Massey Hall in Toronto is the best place to see any act IMO, which holds about 2500, 100 times better than Air Canada Centre, which holds 20,000. Plus Massey Hall was built for music not hockey.

  402. Adam fan here, it pains me to agree that the tank top is not flattering.
Though I don’t really imagine him getting a hard body or anything, just maybe sticking to outfits that suit his soft body better.
Loooved starlight, it’s like it was made for him!!

  403. edit: Why are you even responding to a comment, that, by now, you know I’m going to delete???

  404. How come there’s no “bright lights” video yet. The one minute I see so far is amazing. And love the guitar solo.

I just prefer Kris’ style to Adam. For Adam’s videos I only watched Starlight so far. How did he manage to turn a rock song into a gay club performance I don’t know. It just feels weird. All the self-touching and moaning–a little too self-indulgent.

  405. Can’t wait for the idols to come to my town in a couple of weeks. My eyes will be glued to Adam and that hott blue/black/studded/spiked/tailed leather jacket. So fine. Fits him perfectly. Kudos to SkinGraft. His voice is to die for; his movement totally divine. Love the sleeveless look on him. Awesome body, gorgeous hair. Just the perfect package. Beautiful inside and out. He has handled all the positive hoopla as well as the negativity with aplomb. He just keeps on doin’ hiz thang amazingly! Love Kris, and Allison is one adorable rocker chick! Thanks for the forum to share the tour, mj, and thanks to all you who provided videos and pictures. Makes the waiting to see them a little easier.

  406. Nice touch on Hey Jude, great end to the set…….cool to see all those glowing cell phones and glow sticks……Portland sings well, bwah.

Can’t believe that there isn’t a video circulating anywhere of Adam’s entire WLL performance’ ¦I’m dying to see it, especially since I’ve read somewhere that he does some pelvic thrusting and

I want to see it Tooooooo!!!

  408. How come there’s no ‘bright lights’ video yet. The one minute I see so far is amazing.

Yeah, I have the same question and reaction too, only insert “Whole Lotta Love” for “bright lights.” Actually, I’d like to see them both! Oh well, a little mystery and desire couldn’t hurt, although it seems to a little, doesn’t it? :-)

ETA: Ask and ye shall receive. LOL THANKS Q3 and honowoowoo!

  409. “After the show, the Idols raced out to the fences beyond the bus barricade, where hundreds of fans waited behind metal stanchions to see, touch, take a picture with our get an autograph from the Idols. Tired but utterly jubilant they emerged one by one and raced down the line, soaking in the affection of the crowd. Danny and Matt ran up and down the line slapping hands, laughing like the young people they are, celebrating their public debut. At last, they have emerged from the straight-jacket of television’s most high pressure competition and are free to do what they love ‘“ to sing and to entertain.”

Nothing like the first concert – I am so happy for all of them.

  410. Every performer has their own look, their own style, their own way of emoting a song. As many Idols have said…they “black out” when they hit the stage, they become one with the song and they do, basically, what comes natural to them if they are a performer and not a trained robot.

That to me is the difference between musical theater and “concerts”. Even though songs are “blocked” out on stage during a concert the singer still has the freedom to do what works best for them at any given moment. So, I personally like it when you see the person inside of the performer, warts and all. It might not always “appeal” to me or be the way I would have liked it or wanted it but it is how the artist feels and that is what makes it work.

And, comparing the idols one to another seems to me to be kind of pointless. All 10 are who they are, and all 10 will appeal to a different demographic. That is what makes these kinds of concerts so good. The audience get to see what they “like” and also get a chance to see different skills and types of songs. It broadens our horizons and makes us more well rounded…and helps us to choose who we will support once the tour is over. If someone can move us in 10 or 15 minutes, think how great it will be when we get 60 to 90 minutes of them to enjoy!

  411. Thank you guys for posting all the links. I feel soooo proud of ADAM now. He’s such an amazing performer :wub_tb:

  412. In no universe, ours or any others is Adam fat. He is very thin and very tall. The fat comments are ridiculous. He wears a size medium shirt and a medium is not tight on him. People need to get a grip. Is this the new way to criticize him?

And that’s a medium shirt on a 6’1″ frame. He looks great to me!

  413. Here’s a vid of the whole of WLL .. apologies if it’s a duplicate I hadn’t seen one posted.

It’s from far away but the sound’s quite good and you certainly get the atmosphere

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oTGizDtOMo

    Edit … I see it’s already been posted ….lol

Thanks for all the other vids that have been posted … I sat up all night here in the UK listening to the cell cast waiting for Adam and my friggin internet went down half way through Stardust ….. typical … ha ha

It seems like it was a great show … and once they all get a bit more confident it should get even better

Quality not so good ‘ ¦ but can feel the energy of his performance WLL:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oTGizDtOMo

This is what I have been waiting for. I’m still deciding on whether I want to see the tour when they come to St. Louis. Never seen an Idol tour before (though I do wish I had seen David Cook last year). Adam was easily my favorite of the season. I appreciate a performer who takes everything into account – visual as well as audio. We are in a visual world now.

Yep, Starlight, Mad World, and Bowie medley excellent. But WLL was my favorite of the season and was my deciding factor.

Video not the best on the video, but those vocals! I’m sold. Off to Stub Hub. If I’m going to an Idol show, I want seats close.

Adam fat vs not fat. I’ll go with not fat, though a bit soft. But better than I expected. When I heard he went sleeveless I thought the arms would be softer. Could use some definition, but definitely better than I expected.

  415. Kris bores me. That’s my opinion. His style isn’t something I like. I enjoy entertaining, over-the-top performances like Adam. Kris is an amazing person, a very sweet guy.

The talk about Adam’s weight honestly gets me sad. Adam always worries about his weight, and he is NOT FAT. He’s not the skinniest guy in the world, no, and thank God for that. He’s at a good weight.

Also, Adam was unbelievable last night. Allison was thrilling, Kris was quite good, Matt and Anoop were very good too.

  416. This tweet is too funny, i have to share with you guys. :lol_tb:
“Adam Lambert (@adamlambert) is the only trending celebrity who’s still alive. If I were him, I’d be worried. // :O”

  417. I have to say that they all sounded really good! WTG Idols! It must be great for them all to just get up there and cut loose, doing what they love without the pressure of the judges and winning votes. Well done to ALL of them!

Surprising for me was that, from what I could hear on the cellcast, Megan sounded great.

Lil sounded SO MUCH BETTER than what she did on the show.

Anoop is love. His voice is just so smooth and he has that gorgeous tone that is all his own. Loved AOMM and Mad, both fantastic, and My Prerogative was great, too! Would like to see better pictures of the Nerd Specs (LOVE!) and video of his dorky/hot dance moves for MP.

Matt was fantastic on THH and Georgia. Dude can play the piano. Like, PLAY play the piano. I still don’t love his version of YFM, but his set was a lot of fun to hear.

I am dying to see a vid of the 10-5 finishers medley, mostly because I really want to see Lil and Anoop rap. Holla, bitches!

Allison sounded great and man did she sing her face off on Barracuda. Was really glad she and Adam had a chance to reprise Slow Ride. So good!

Danny still isn’t my favorite, but he sure seemed to bring the house down.

Adam was great. His style of music isn’t my cuppa still, but no denying boy knows how to put on a show, sang and work a stage.

Kris was fantastic. Too bad he’s got that millstone of a song NB tied around his poor neck for the tour. Hey Jude was a great choice as a set closer, and I hate to admit that when the other Idols joined him for the Na-nas, I may have had a tear in my eye.

The closing number was lots of fun and gave everyone a moment to shine one last time on the stage at the end of the show. Being a huge Anoop fan I have to admit that when he and Lil came up from the back singing, I heard his voice before I saw him and DAYAM. Love it.

Well done and good show, Idols!

They must have been just flying all night after the rush of performing their first major venue in front of 13,000 fans. I cannot even imagine how stoked they must all be.

  418. I only watched Starlight so far. How did he manage to turn a rock song into a gay club performance I don’t know. It just feels weird. All the self-touching and moaning’“a little too self-indulgent. Okay, okay, fair enough if folks don’t like his style, but do we need to add the “gay” comment? If someone said Lil sounds “too black” or Scott sounds “too blind” that sure wouldn’t be very PC, imvho. Straight rock stars do the “moaning” and “self-touching” thing, too. Michael Hutchence and Jim Morrison of the Doors come to mind. I find it sexy and so do a lot of fans, your mileage may vary. Obviously, the concert producers must’ve noticed Adam’s popularity for him to get the spotlight in the show, amount of songs, even the business of rising up out of the stage *at the same time* as Kris in the finale. I doubt they said, “Adam’s performance is so gay, so we should give him the same number of songs as Kris and treat him almost like the co-winner.”

  419. Reminder:

Seriously. I’m beginning to lose my mind here. NO fingerwagging. NO lecturing. NO criticizing other posters opinions. NO commenting on the comments or the blog. If you can’t handle criticism of your favorite without freaking out and/or lashing out, you need to STOP READING.

  420. So, I personally like it when you see the person inside of the performer, warts and all. It might not always ‘appeal’ to me or be the way I would have liked it or wanted it but it is how the artist feels and that is what makes it work.

ITA! And I think Adam makes his work really really well

  421. thanks mj and jsalow2 for the hi qual vid of MW. Now i just need one more vid to complete my adam songs. Any good qual WLL out there? thx in advance

  422. This tweet is too funny, i have to share with you guys.
‘Adam Lambert (@adamlambert) is the only trending celebrity who’s still alive. If I were him, I’d be worried. // :O’

Oh, dear God – we’re all a bunch of over-protective worry warts over Adam and the others – this is the last thing we need to think about :wink_wp:

There were a couple comments about the sound system at Portland – I seem to recall it being ok in my venues, but, yeah, I hope that doesn’t mess up the sound of the show.

IIRC the sound usually makes everyone sound much better for the tour (smaller voiced people sound much louder, etc.)

  423. I finally managed to pull myself away from the Matt Videos and looked at Allison’s…MAN that girl can SANG!! She rocked last night!! Go Allison… I think I may have liked her rock set TONS more than Adams!

For me so far: Matt was the best, than Allison, Anoop, Adam… I still need to watch the rest, but I think Danny’s may be really good as well.

EDIT: Would also like to see more Danny Vids, and Michael and Megan’s sets!!

  424. MJ, I’d love to see more vids of Danny. If you come across. please post.

  425. In my opinion, Kris’s performances paled by comparison to Adam’s, not because of a lesser talent but because of the dynamic nature of Adam’s vocals, stage presence and performance style. If the concert wasn’t based on presenting the acts in elimination order, the producers could schedule the performers differently, with perhaps a better result. But it is was it is, which in my opinion does not work to Kris’s advantage. But I don’t blame the other contestants for that.

  426. And the 4 minute version of WLL! (It’s from really far away but audio is good.)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oTGizDtOMo

Thank you. Adam was a little spec, but his vocals were giant-sized. I’m amazed how he sounds in these youtube clips. Well, many, many people said he sounded even more amazing live than on TV. His vocals alone are a show in itself.

  427. This tweet is too funny, i have to share with you guys.
‘Adam Lambert (@adamlambert) is the only trending celebrity who’s still alive. If I were him, I’d be worried. // :O’

    LMAO!!! :laugh_tb: :lol_tb:

Just out of curiousity, I’m not into the whole twitter thing, but which celebs are trending? I’m assuming Michael Jackson would be one….who else?

  428. If the concert wasn’t based on presenting the acts in elimination order, the producers could schedule the performers differently, with perhaps a better result. But it is was it is, which in my opinion does not work to Kris’s advantage. But I don’t blame the other contestants for that.

This was my thinking when we got down to the finale of AI – not so much who deserved to win, who was the best, but what elim order would lead to the best order for the concert. (ok, maybe not the best way to judge everything!)

And certainly cd’s are another matter, but in terms of performances, Adam ending the show (the “pimp spot” he held so dearly for most of the season) just seemed to make the most sense. Dude just knows how to end a show.

  429. It’s just hard for me to understand why people feel like Kris’s set is such a let-down after Adam

Honestly (and of course ymmv) — I think it’s just a matter of energy-level, not a comment on the quality of Kris’s set or Adam’s set. Adam’s tailor-made for spectacle, noise, drama; Kris is like the cream in your coffee that makes it juuuuust right. He’s not going to make as big a splash as Adam is on stage; that’s not a bad thing, it’s just a different thing. I don’t think he would want to do what Adam does; Kris has his own style and does his own thing and seems really comfortable with it.

I don’t know, I’m kind of a hybrid fan I guess. Adam hits me where I live, makes me want to sing and dance and yell. Kris makes me want to kick back and sing along. I love them both, though I’m definitely in the Adam camp most of the time.

That said, I’m also in the camp that really wants a full video of Bright Lights, like, NOW, please!

And I thought Kris knocked Hey Jude out of the park – though was it just me, or did he mix up some of the words? It sounded like he was singing “into your skin” and “under your heart”, but the sound quality wasn’t fab. =) Either way, he nailed the vocals and the energy of the song.

  430. It’s like I’ve been transported back in time to the middle of Season 8. I just keep replaying Adam’s performances on an endless loop. Occasionally, I’ll watch someone else, but then it’s right back to ADAM. I love the Bowie medley. Incredible.

  431. He wears a size medium shirt and a medium is not tight on him.

It always worries me a little when I see comments like this. I have visions of people at the fence reaching over his back to check the tags of his shirt. Either that or running off with his laundry.

One of my cousins once saw a woman at the laundrymat that looked very familiar. Finally, she figured out that she was a movie star (I won’t tell you her name) and I guess the lightbulb moment was witnessed by the star because she said “Yes, it’s me”. They got to talking while waiting for their laundry and they got around to discussing why a big movie star wouldn’t just send her laundry out to be done (she was in town filming a movie). Turns out, that over the years, the star has had too much laundry suspciously go missing. She doesn’t mind people pinching the odd shirt or two, but it freaks her out about stealing her underwear. So, she always finds a laundrymat and does that part of her washing herself.

    Fans can be whacky.

For my sanity, I’ll just suspect that somebody sent Adam a medium sized shirt and later saw him wearing a shirt like it and assumed it was the shirt that they sent.

  432. In regards to the whole pimp spot/ending spot and Adam – I think on the show we only got to really see Kris end it once (since on Finale performance night, Carrie Underwood ended it). I don’t think the show really allowed us to see how Kris ends things on a consistent basis since he only had that Top 9 week. He may surprise over the summer as he gets more comfortable with being the final persormer of the night

That being said – I still stand by my previous comments that I feel like Kris’s final song of Hey Jude better segways into the group number then Adam’s Bowie medley (as awesome as the videos show it to be). And as the winner Kris deserves to be the final performaer of the night.

MJ – would love to see more videos when you find them since the tour doesn’t get to me til August.

  433. What is with the “AM” intro for Adam? I was watching the youtube video for Whole Lotta Love and saw that on the video intro On the video screen they had a “2” (I get that), but then they showed AM. What’s with the AM? I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss the “DA” in there, but there was lots of flashing lights so maybe it was there and just not seen in the video?

    (just wondering).

  434. I wish I can watch all the videos and join you in your discussion now. Anyway, I enjoy reading all the posts and opinions. I am really happy for Adam. Can’t wait to watch him on the 16th.

  435. BeckyMD – THANK YOU!!! I have been waiting for a full length video of WLL alllllllll morning!! Adam is absolutely remarkable..I got chills over and over again during that performance. I have never in my life felt so passionately about a performer, NEVER. And for such an extraordinary talent to surface on a show such as American Idol – who woulda thunk it. :shock_tb: By the utter shock and awe he always provokes in me and from the crowd’s reaction, I have no doubt that Paula Abdul was right. He IS “going to be ICONIC!” :clap_tb: :clap_tb:

  436. Ellie2 LMAO Thanks!

MJ thanks for posting link to high quality Mad World. This is one of the best quality live concert audience videos I’ve ever seen. I keep hoping that someone will post a great quality WLL — because this performance was really hot based on the video that’s out there.

Regarding the concert, everyone did well, but there is just a totally different level of energy when Adam was performing. In some way it doesn’t seem like he’s in the same concert. Even the band seems to be at a different level.

I think Adam pulled off an amazing set and kept the audience with him the whole time. In under 20 minutes, he went from WLL (heavy metal) to Starlight and Mad World (alternative rock) brought the excitment back up with Slow Ride (hard rock) and then closed he set with the updated Bowie medly (dance-electronica). And all of it is unified by his vocal style. This give me more confidence that he can actually do an album that spans several genres.

IMO everyone is being really kind to Kris because he’s so likable and he won Idol. But IMO he was not up to Adam’s level. I have seen most of Kris’ set, still waiting for a full version of “Bright Lights” and any video of “Ain’t No Sunshine”. Overall, I didn’t find anything exciting about Kris’ performance. I thought “Bright Lights” was a real chance for Kris to shine, but the part that is on video is not close to as good as the Matchbox 20 version. Having heard it, I don’t think this was a great song choice for Kris. Like most of Kris’ performances, I just didn’t find this very exciting.

Finally, I thought Alison was great (always love her!!) and parts of Danny’s performance were also really good. I do not like Danny very much and am not a Danny fan BUT he has a really good voice.

I will def buy Adam’s album — I would even pay a premium to get it early. I will listen to Alison on the radio/online and might buy her album if it was really good. I can’t believe that I am writing the next sentence! After seeing the Danny videos, I would seriously think about buying a Danny album.

  437. For my sanity, I’ll just suspect that somebody sent Adam a medium sized shirt and later saw him wearing a shirt like it and assumed it was the shirt that they sent.

Kirsten, this person runs one of Adam’s most sane fan boards. I think she has given him a shirt and has probably personally asked him what size would be best. I don’t think she’s one of those wacky ones you are referring to.

  438. I haven’t had time to watch everything yet but it looks like a great show and I have to say that Kris impressed me very much!! He just has “it” when it comes to drawing me in whenever he sings….it’s so natural and just there, he doesn’t have to work to make it happen….very cool!! Adam also did good which was completely expected, he’s already set the bar so high for himself that he just doesn’t wow me, if that makes sense. Oh and as a Daughtry fanatic I just can’t dig Adam’s WLL since I LOVED Chris’ performance of it during the S5 tour, sorry but I’m crazy like that :P It’ll be really cool to see how much better these performances get as the tour goes on….can’t wait!

Thanks for all the pictures and videos :)

  439. Adam ending the show (the ‘pimp spot’ he held so dearly for most of the season) just seemed to make the most sense. Dude just knows how to end a show.

The winner always goes last. Anything else would be weird, IMO.

Maybe they should have planned the concert better and had Adam close the first half (like Blake did in his season). IDK. Kris is low-key. He’s always going to low-key. It’s like Debbie told the Disney commercial, that’s just how Kris is. Not everybody can be bombastic or wants to listen to bombastic performers. Viva la differences!

IMO everyone is being really kind to Kris because he’s so likable and he won Idol.

You know, one could infer from this statement that it is saying that Kris has no fans. That people just clapped for him because he’s Adam’s friend or because they are sheep who cheer for whoever won. Perhaps AT&T should ship in a few ringers from Arkansas because they might be able to better fake that they are enjoying Kris.

  440. It’s just hard for me to understand why people feel like Kris’s set is such a let-down after Adam

But there’s only been one show so far….how can that be an issue yet?? I watched all Kris and Adam’s videos and I think Kris did great….the audience seemed to be into it.

  441. The winner always goes last. Anything else would be weird, IMO.

Actually, they all ended the show together in a group performance, and Kris and Adam both came up on the risers together to sing. I think it was a decent ending, although it was the cheesiest song of the night. lol

Also, in my opinion, having Adam close the first half would have been a bad idea. He needs to be closer to the end of the entire show like he is. I think the order is perfect.

  442. Finally, I thought Alison was great (always love her!!) and parts of Danny’s performance were also really good. I do not like Danny very much and am not a Danny fan BUT he has a really good voice.

It was very interesting watching all the Top 13 recently during the MJ show: I was struck by how Adam and Allison both really impressed me the most (Allison is just amazing, regardless of how young she is), so it’s great to hear that she did so well on the show!

I wasn’t as happy with her song choices (LOVE Cry Baby and SR, So What was mainly ruined for me by the AI “all white brigade” performing it in the finale, and Barracuda is not a fav song of mine). Regardless of the songs, though, I think she will be amazing during the tour!

IDK, to me it’s part of the whole Kris style – as has been said here before, it’s just not his thing to play an arena style rock/pop concert. He is much more intimate, that’s his sound and style. So it’s not so much which is better or worse, but just that you are more likely to have a natural energy drop when someone like Adam performs huge rock ballad numbers, followed by Kris strumming away on the guitar.

What is with the ‘AM’ intro for Adam? I was watching the youtube video for Whole Lotta Love and saw that on the video intro On the video screen they had a ‘2’ ³ (I get that), but then they showed AM. What’s with the AM? I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss the ‘DA’ in there, but there was lots of flashing lights so maybe it was there and just not seen in the video?

LOL! I noticed that too! I think it may be the angle of the person taking the vid, versus the way the lights show up on the screen to obscure the AD part of it (just a guess since AM makes no sense = what, is it the morning?)

  443. What is with the ‘AM’ intro for Adam?

They spelled his name out in his intro (ADAM)

  444. “What is with the ‘AM’ intro for Adam?” Sally, if you look closely at the very beginning, there is and A and a D, spelling out his name in big red letters for a big intro effect.

Unique beat me to it, lol.

  445. got my WLL vid. That was fast. Thx to xuziqueue, PattyH and BestAI. I felt the heat and the energy of Adam’s voice even if he’s just a spec in that vid and I’m half a world away from you guys.. Now i can sleep..

  446. Actually, they all ended the show together in a group performance, and Kris and Adam both came up on the risers together to sing. I think it was a decent ending, although it was the cheesiest song of the night. lol

Yes, I know that. They do that every year. It’s an encore of sorts. Like when they get everybody in the play to come out and take a bow. Not just the people who were left on the stage when it ended. People in general want to be able to appluad everybody, so the final group moment is a way to do that.

When they do the mini-concert set-up, the Idol winner always goes last (before the final group number). Even in season 6 when they had a lot of group numbers, Jordin had a long set at the end.

Blake was immensely popular in his year (and got lots of ear peircing screams). I thought it worked well when he ended the first half so I’m not sure I see the problem. But, then I don’t really have a problem with the concert as it is. It’s just that if people suggest re-shuffling, that’s what I would do.

  447. Multi performer concerts always seem a little disjointed because of the type of singers and their individual song selection. If Kris gets invited to perform at the traveling Christmas concerts he will have the same type of situation that he faces with the AI tour. His style, as many have alluded to, is much more intimate and basically one on one…not OTT arena style. Performers like Jason Mraz, Colby Cailette, James Taylor and many more have survived, handily, and Kris will to.

But, at the same time, Kris’ fans need to realize that there will always be a different “energy” level when he performs. You can’t sing in an intimate more laid back style and expect the audience to get “moved” into the same frenzy they would for someone who is singing accompanied by booms and blasts. Just ain’t going to happen. It doesn’t mean that Kris is weaker than, say Adam, it just means that an audience reacts differently.

  448. Great videos. IMO, Kris has staying power in the industry.

edit: wild predictions that aren’t focused on an Idol’s career are totally off-topic in this thread

  449. With regards to his shirt size, I think he said it himself in an interview somewhere. He was asked about fan gifts and said that he was getting lots of jewelry and for some reason X-L clothing. He laughed and said that he knew the camera added pounds, but he’s a medium shirt size.

    So, not crazy stalker talk.

  450. IMO, Kris has staying power in the industry. blockquote>

I agree regarding Kris and I will wish a bright and amazing future to Adam as I do think he is a gifted performer.

edited post you were responding too

  451. This thread is deja vu of last year with everyone onto David Cook about going bald and not shaving. (LOL) As to the “pimp” spot, the winner is always last and Kris’ set is nothing like AL’s. Different strokes for different folks.

  452. Also, in my opinion, having Adam close the first half would have been a bad idea. He needs to be closer to the end of the entire show like he is. I think the order is perfect.

Agreed. We were debating those logistics earlier in the weeks before the tour, and ending in the first half would be incredibly anti-climactic for the rest of the show.

The winner always goes last. Anything else would be weird, IMO.

Yeah, I of course didn’t expect differently (Kris earned his last spot based on the results). Just in terms of being stuck with that order vs. having Adam last as more of the showstopper finale.

  453. It would indeed be a tough act to follow going after Adam but let’s face it, Kris just doesn’t have the energy level that Allison, Danny and Adam bring to a performance.

It’s just the way Kris is. He’s probably suited to smaller more intimate venues.

  454. I just watched “Whole Lotta Love”, It was so good I found myself clapping alone at my desk like an idiot.

    Dayum! That was gooooooood.

  455. Even though I love Adam, Kris is the real big artist for me. He has this killer tone of voice and phrasing!! I can’t wait to watch ANS and Bright light full performances.

  456. Danny and Matt ran up and down the line slapping hands, laughing like the young people they are, celebrating their public debut. At last, they have emerged from the straight-jacket of television’s most high pressure competition and are free to do what they love ‘“ to sing and to entertain.’

I saw the video of Danny and Matt running up and down along the line of people giving high fives. I loved it! I am so happy for all of them….seems they were on top of the world last night!

  457. I was skimming the comments and all I can is WOW! I look at the tour as a time for all of them to have fun and for the fans to relax and just enjoy….kinda like they’re doing. Obviously everyone has their favorites but this tour is pretty meaningless in terms of determining how well their careers will be. I remember back in S4 Constantine and Bo got tons of love from all the fans and the screams were crazy but that didn’t mean much for them. I know Constatine has the whole Tony nomination thing happening now but it took a lot to get there and it’s still not what you would call a successful music career.

I’m just saying that we’ve go a loooooooooong time and lots of happenings before we’ll know who’ll be the success stories of S8.

  458. What’s with the AM? I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss the ‘DA’ in there, but there was lots of flashing lights so maybe it was there and just not seen in the video?

I suspect it’s the economy. Since they used 2 and DA last year, it’s only 2 and AM this year. ;-P

(And, I saw the exact same thing you did! AM only. LOL)

  459. For my sanity, I’ll just suspect that somebody sent Adam a medium sized shirt and later saw him wearing a shirt like it and assumed it was the shirt that they sent.

He said in an interview somewhere that because people know he’s kind of tall they keep sending him XL shirts when in fact he wears medium.

  460. WSOW this is NUTSO, MJ! I just found you last year during S7 and this was kind of an intimate little place…whew! AHHHH ADAM. I do not have tickets to the show this year, but I would love to see Adam. And Matt and Kris. The AI shows I’ve seen, everyone sounded better live than on TV, imo. And boy was S7 an exponentially better show than S2! Of course that was because of my one true love, David Cook. hee. INNYWAY, vids are great, thank you all so much! I would prolly get tix if I didn’t have a broken kneecap and the show wasn’t coming up so soon, dammit. I’m looking forward to albums from Adam and Matt the most, still. That’s how I’ve felt since before the show was over.

I hope to hell that Adam has already had his opportunities to become a drug addict and alcoholic and has passed them up. He’s 27 or 28, right? I hope he knows better by now. He’s worked so hard, since he was a kid, to get this exposure, this chance. Adam, I’m confident you won’t blow it and self-destruct! I can’t wait to see what he does next and hear his album.

  461. It would indeed be a tough act to follow going after Adam but let’s face it, Kris just doesn’t have the energy level that Allison, Danny and Adam bring to a performance.

It’s just the way Kris is. He’s probably suited to smaller more intimate venues.

ITA. Now I understand what Randy and Simon said in Kris’ finale show — the same as one of the reviewers said. Kris is suited to a smaller venue. The bigger ones just swallow him up.

I’m just thrilled that the reviewers are saying Adam is living up to his expectations. I read a bit ago that if Adam can pull off “putting on a show” (he already has the vocals) he can be hugely successful. I know it’s only one show, but he can only get better.

  462. With regards to his shirt size, I think he said it himself in an interview somewhere. He was asked about fan gifts and said that he was getting lots of jewelry and for some reason X-L clothing. He laughed and said that he knew the camera added pounds, but he’s a medium shirt size.

THIS. I was actually doing a response with the same info but then noticed CindyM already responded. I saw the same interview.

    OH and he’s a singer too! :biggrin_wp:

  463. And is it just me or was Anoop just full of sexy last night. Loved his voice on YWAOMM

It wasn’t just you. I thought he was amazing on that song. I actually got misty-eyed, I was just so proud of him. It was beautiful and heartfelt.

  464. edit: why on earth would you post something you know I’m going to edit?!!?

  465. Reminder:

Wild speculation about the future personal lives of the Idols is off-topic to this thread. I deleted all of that out of the threads, including the original post.

  466. As far as I could tell from the YouTube videos, Kris did a great job closing out the show. The crowd seemed to love him. So although there’s a much more low-key vibe with Kris than there is with Adam, I don’t think that means Kris is at a disadvantage in following Adam. In fact, it is to his credit as a performer that he didn’t lose the crowd after Adam’s set. The crowd was SCREAMING when Kris came on stage — the only down moment seemed to be No Boundaries (no duh), but Bright Lights and Hey Jude got the energy back up.

It would be nice if Kris didn’t have to do No Boundaries — that song does NOT help build any momentum in anyone’s set. If Adam had to sing it, it would be just as much a downer of a moment as it is with Kris. I don’t understand why the producers force the AI winner to sing these crappy coronation songs on tour. As ar as I know, it doesn’t result in a boatload of sales — by the time the tour starts, anyone who wanted to buy the crappy song has pretty much already done so.

I’d love to see a full-length video of Bright Lights — the snippet of YouTube sounds fantastic! And I’d love to see ANS, too.

This person on IDF is posting YouTube videos…so far, she’s posted stuff for Scott, Lil, Anoop, Matt and Allison, but is promising to post stuff on Danny, Adam and Kris as well. The video and audio quality is really good on the ones I’ve seen

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=618797

Anyway, congrats to all the Idols on opening night. Hopefully they can build on this promising start to the tour.

  467. I think Adam looks a bit flabby, but not fat. Kris should work out with him :P.

It’s kinda sad, but I don’t know if I’m looking forward to Adam. David Bowie is overrated, and Starlight is dull to me. The other two performances will be awesome, but we’ve already seen them. He’s also not as much my style as Kris, I don’t like over-the-top rock star type. And my mom’s gonna ruin my Idol concert by comparing him to Kris.

  468. Adam’s intro to WLL= WOW. Loved it and the whole performance. I also loved the Bowie Medley. Im tired of Mad World and Starlight was just aight.

  469. It just feels weird. All the self-touching and moaning’“a little too self-indulgent

Yep, Michael Jackson comes to mind for me, and look what it did for his career….imagine what he could have been…

  470. I’m SO freakin’ excited for my tour stop now! :) It seems like all the Idols do a really good job, which is great. I’m happy for all of them.

Of course, Adam is my main reason for going, and I really like the videos I’ve seen so far. He looks great to me, and I can’t wait to hear Starlight. Yea!

Why wouldn’t Kris close the show? He’s the winner, and his set looks like fun. Both sets seem to represent who they are as artists, and that’s what I like to see. Fanwaring is inevitable, but it gives me a headache. :)

  471. Finally, I thought Alison was great (always love her!!) and parts of Danny’s performance were also really good. I do not like Danny very much and am not a Danny fan BUT he has a really good voice.

I will def buy Adam’s album ‘” I would even pay a premium to get it early. I will listen to Alison on the radio/online and might buy her album if it was really good. I can’t believe that I am writing the next sentence! After seeing the Danny videos, I would seriously think about buying a Danny album.

Q3, I appreciate you keeping an open mind about Danny. I have always been an Adam/Danny fan. For me, Adam was in a league of his own, his superior technical singing ability coupled with his superior stage presence made it hard for the others to compete, imo. However, I have always thought that Danny had a killer voice….his voice is really special.

Personally, I think there is a reason that Danny and Adam were the frontrunners all season long, although I’m very open to an argument for Allison as well. That girl has one special voice on her, too!

  472. Thanks for the videos….I’m so happy for all of them, the reviews of the show have been great…
It’s great that Adam is a Muse fan (woo hoo) and he did a nice job with the song but IMO Muse’s Starlight is still by far the best -plus they’re a pretty terrific band live, if you have the chance you should go to see them in concert, won’t regret it- on the other hand, Adam’s Mad World was again wonderful, and the Bowie Medley was excellent…
I Loved loved Kris’s set, his storytelling take on Heartless is what makes his version the best, he really wanted to sing Hey Jude and he did a fantastic job, you could see that everybody was having a great time on the stage…
I’m just waiting that during Kris’s World Tour he would make a stop in South America, I need to see him live, I’m so jealous…

And again a million thanks to mj and everybody else responsible for posting videos, tweeting the concert etc, thank you for sharing that experience with us, the international fans, you’re the best!

  473. But, at the same time, Kris’ fans need to realize that there will always be a different ‘energy’ level when he performs. You can’t sing in an intimate more laid back style and expect the audience to get ‘moved’ into the same frenzy they would for someone who is singing accompanied by booms and blasts. Just ain’t going to happen. It doesn’t mean that Kris is weaker than, say Adam, it just means that an audience reacts differently.

Yes. This is true. Different artists and different songs move audiences in different ways. One is not necessarily better than the other, but one is definately more “noticeable” than the other.

  474. I think that both Kris and Adam have a shot but it won’t be easy for either of them to have staying power. Their first real challenge is to produce a successful album. So we’ll see.

Adam seems pretty well grounded and centered to me. I hope he is successful as a recording artist and concert entertainer, but, even if he doesn’t make it as a recording artist, he will certainly have a successful entertainment career. He could get the lead in a Broadway Show tomorrow if that’s what he wanted — not bad for someone who was in the corrus and an understudy in the touring and Los Angeles casts of the musical Wicked last year.

Performers like Jason Mraz, Colby Cailette, James Taylor and many more have survived, handily, and Kris will to.

I agree that there are many successful performers who are more suited or perfer to play smaller venues. And IMO Kris would be great to see in a smaller venue vs. an arena. Howver, IMO it is going a bit far to compare Kris to James Taylor yet. James Taylor has 6 Grammys, Rock & Roll and Songwriter Hall of Fame, and is #84 Rolling Stone’s list of “The Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. And although James Taylor is brilliant in a small theater, he was also great in arena concerts and put together a great touring band in the 1980’s that played arenas — and got great reviews. (I was lucky enough to see him live 3 times including once in a very large venue — all 3 concerts were great!)

  475. Love Kris, but for some reason I just can’t get into “heartless”, I feel detached when I hear it and that’s not my usual reaction to Kris’s performances. I love “Ain’t no Sunshine” that boy puts some feeling into that song..luv it…and don’t pelt me with rocks, I like “No Boundaries”. I think the chorus is catchy, too many words in the other parts, but I like the chorus in both the versions Kris and Adam sing. I haven’t seen the videos yet, trying to abstain until after I see the show live, but it sounds like everyone did great!!!

AS far as him being staged and choreographed, I enjoy that. I don’t think it’s inorganic, that’s how Adam has performed forever. It’s who he is.

People who are performers always almost choreograph. Michael Jackson did, Beyonce does, Usher, Madonna, etc. Actually’ ¦ Pretty much every concert is choreographed to a point. Thats why its called a show’ ¦’ ¦.

I see this as the difference between a “show” and a “concert.” Bruce Springsteen, for example, puts on fabulous concerts every single time out. He and every member of his band dress all in black, no costumes. The stage design is incredibly simple. No fog machines, catwalks, any of it. And he has been selling out arenas for close to 30 years, because of the MUSIC.

If, say, Beyonce, or Madonna, or Britney or Lady Gaga, tried that, their touring career would be over pretty quickly.

And there is a place in the industry for both types of tours, but they appeal to different groups of fans, and one is not necessarily better than the other. But they are DIFFERENT and require different strengths from the performers.

  477. It’s just the way Kris is. He’s probably suited to smaller more intimate venues.”

I would love to see Kris in this type of venue. Went last Tuesday to see David Cook in a venue that only had 850 seats and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Great acoustically and just felt closer to the performer.

I’ll admit, though, I desperately can’t wait to see Adam in this tour and hopefully in future solo tours, in whatever type of venue he’s in.

  478. I see this as the difference between a ‘show’ and a ‘concert.’

Can’t something be both? Michael Jackson, as has been discussed, had crazy pyrotechnics and complicated sets and insane costumes and choreography–but he was a star because of his music and his skills as a performer. Same with Bowie: insane live shows, but it was the music that was important–his showiness and costumes and lights were a part of his music, and they enhanced it.

You can have all the visual/performance craziness, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less about the music. It’s just a different way of expressing and enhancing the music. Bowie’s not a lesser artist than Bob Dylan, and vice versa.

Also: Lower-key artists like Springsteen and Dylan are definitely putting on a show–their sets, their personas, everything, is a show. It’s just a different kind of show. And that kind of variety is good.

  479. MJ, thanks for all of the video links.

Does anyone have a good video of Allison singing “Barracuda”? I’d love to see that!

  480. Yep, Michael Jackson comes to mind for me, and look what it did for his career’ ¦.imagine what he could have been’ ¦

Elvis and Michael Jason, yada, yada, I think you should throw Beatles in there so that Adam is on par on all these great musicians.

I wasn’t MJ’s biggest fan, but to me his performance is original and authentic. Whatever he does, he doesn’t put up an act.

  481. Really looking forward to the Tampa show now. Adam looked & sounded AMAZING!!! That boy looks like he’s been working out. He’s who I bought tickets for, he’s who I want to see, and from what I’m hearing it will be well worth the money I put out for VIP tickets. I love the way he so sensual on stage, doesn’t bother me a bit ;) I”m also glad they’re ending with Don’t Stop Believing…a great way to end the show imo

  482. I see this as the difference between a ‘show’ and a ‘concert.’ Bruce Springsteen, for example, puts on fabulous concerts every single time out. He and every member of his band dress all in black, no costumes. The stage design is incredibly simple. No fog machines, catwalks, any of it. And he has been selling out arenas for close to 30 years, because of the MUSIC.

I agree and disagree with this. I agree that Bruce Springsteen continues to sell out concerts because of his music, but its incorrect to say he does not put on a show at his concerts. He doesn’t just stand there and sing……. There may not be dancers but he definitely puts on a show. I’ve been to a Springsteen concert (I love older music/artists even though I’m only 28), so I’m speaking by experience.

If, say, Beyonce, or Madonna, or Britney or Lady Gaga, tried that, their touring career would be over pretty quickly.

I defintely agree with this statement. lol

And there is a place in the industry for both types of tours, but they appeal to different groups of fans, and one is not necessarily better than the other. But they are DIFFERENT and require different strengths from the performers.

You get no arguments from me on this statement. Its very very true. I’m a firm believer that different does not equal deficient.

  483. I dont like that my concert is so far away.I cant wait for Kris,Allison,Matt,Megan and Anoop. The others I can drink while they sing.

I dont get why people are complaining that kris’s performance level wasnt like adam, allison or dannys.I’m sorry but do you want him to scream and put some glitter on? Do you want him to pretend that hes gay and in your face so he can
get some respect? I’m sure if you go to a john mayer, jason mraz, mat nationson concert you wont find anything differant than kris’s set.

  484. However, I have always thought that Danny had a killer voice’ ¦.his voice is really special.

Personally, I think there is a reason that Danny and Adam were the frontrunners all season long, although I’m very open to an argument for Allison as well. That girl has one special voice on her, too!

Yup. I couldn’t agree with you more.

  485. get some respect? I’m sure if you go to a john mayer, jason mraz, mat nationson concert you wont find anything differant than kris’s set.

Actually, John Mayer does do some pretty good orgasm faces and has been known to touch himself when he’s playing. I also think he’s been known to make out with boys a time or two. However, Kris (as well as Adam), will get respect for more than their outward personas, I think their musical performance speak for themselves. Also, as far as Kris pretending to be gay to get respect, tell me how it’s been nothing but a problem for Adam with getting respect from people and the media for his music. I clearly remember him having to say “I’m also a singer” in an interview to get back on topic.

  486. Well said NewAIFan_S8
There are concerts and there are shows and room for both. All depends on your mood.

Some people just want the band and the instruments and the music. Most rock bands keep it pretty simple. Like the David Cook tour.

And very versatile and confident performers can do both – a concert tour here and more showy tour there – for example – see Elton John when he did a tour with just him and his piano. Which was brilliant by the way and we all know EJ had done all different levels of spectacle as well.

  487. Adam should go work out with Danny.

Danny has been working it out lately it seems. He started off looking a little
pudgey at the beginning of Idol and now he’s turning into one fine-looking man.

Thought he looked really good in his video.

  488. I turned one of Adam’s “Starlight” videos into an MP3 this morning and burned it onto a CD for my car. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me. It’s different than the original – he starts in a higher key (and I think he misses a line) but he puts in little flourishes that I love and the vocal is beeaauutiful!!! I’m dying to see it live. Whoever says Adam moans through that song obviously doesn’t know that song. His vocal is gorgeous. Maybe it would help if you closed your eyes?

As for staging…Adam said repeatedly through AI that he plans the song and how he’s going to sing it and then just goes out there and does it. He doesn’t carefully choreograph his performances. He also said that the Beyonce guy gave him a few moves he could improvise during the Bowie medley. That’s not staging, that’s just Adam. Which is why I love him. I have a feeling we’re going to see different stuff from him throughout the concert run.

ETA: Springsteen is one of my favorite acts and I can tell you that the man is NOT low key in concerts. Talk about high octane goodness. I don’t know how he keeps his energy level up for sometimes 3 hours! The man’s a ROCK STAR! He’s not The Fray.

  489. I see Adam as staging his performance – comes across as too much posing for me and it detracts from the MUSIC.

  490. But don’t forget, Bruce Springsteen developed his shtick over a number of years BEFORE he was selling out stadiums. He was doing the bar/club circuit for several years before that.

Let not forget that the AI kids including Kris have not had as much stage experience as even Adam let alone Bruce Springsteen.

Be fun to be at the first concert and the last concert to see the growth in all the performers.

One last point, I think most performers are more pumped also when performing their own original material and that is the other strength of performers like Bruce Springsteen. But people like Michael Buble can do covers all night and excite a crowd almost as much but I bet he has a special twinkle and energy when he does the song he wrote, even though he wrote it for a woman who is no longer his girlfriend but I digress.

  491. Adam should go work out with Danny.

Danny has been working it out lately it seems. He started off looking a little
pudgey at the beginning of Idol and now he’s turning into one fine-looking man.

Thought he looked really good in his video.

Danny has definitely been working out. He looks really good. I have always thought that he has really nice arms, but now he looks like he lost some weight, and he looks like he’s in better shape.

Danny says he works out, and Anoop does too. They have both Tweeted about that plus, there have been Tweets about them excercising together, like playing basketball and stuff.
